Academics at UCR is fast paced because it is on the quarter system, but that doesn't make it easier. Students are expected to learn the material and learn it fast. There are several ways to get help and to further understanding in a subject. Professors make themselves available for one on one discussion during their office hours, TA's are assigned to discussion sections with about 30 students and also have office hours. Some courses even offer supplementary instruction at the learning center, and tutors are available for many subject. However there is a lot more to learn at UCR then just what classes have to offer. The organizations and programs here help students learn life skills as well as emotional, spiritual, physical and mental excellence.
Am enjoying being here
I love going to UCR, the student population is so diverse, there is a lot to learn from other students. Also there are so many organizations and classes that you really get to explore and find things you love to do. Living on campus brings a lot to the experience, you get to participate in programs put on just for residence, strong friendships are made with hall mates, and you become very familiar with the campus. The environment at UCR is one that fosters the four values of the Tartan soul: integrity, accountability, excellence, and respect.
Bang for the buck
UCR is one of the most affordable UC's. It seems like a lot when you first have to pay, but if you get involved and utilize everything that is being offered to you, then it is definitely worth it. As a student you will have access to the Recreational center, tutors at the learning center, and your education of course. Students living on campus also get meal plans and there are several programs put on to help make the college experience everything you want it to be. If you get involved, you will get more than your money is worth. Also a very high percent of students qualify for financial aid to help pay the cost.
Tips for prospective students
However great a college is, it is not for everyone, so I recommend using the host program to get a feel of the campus and see if it is what you are looking for, and at the very least, take a tour. The campus is great and so is the school. Also apply for financial aid, even if you think you wont qualify, file for FASFA, it is how most colleges determine eligibility for financial aid. Look into the organizations offered, there are a lot, and if you are interested in honors, apply early. Lastly, research the school and see which school is the best for your interest, take into account what you want from college. If any prospective student has any questions I would love to answer them. Look for Kimberley Hutter at UC Riverside on Facebook, and just let me know that you are a prospective student.
Great for these types of students
UCR is great for students who enjoy learning about other cultures and those who like warm sunny weather. The school has good research programs for those interested in sciences as well as a good business program.

In transitioning from high school to college/university, UCR helps students to be able to learn new subjects as well new skills. At the same time, students would be able to meet new people and become more confident in their environment. You can learn a lot from people's perspectives about different things as well your surroundings. You learn to become independent and responsible over time.
Am enjoying being here
Living in the dorms and meeting new people make it a great experience to be in UCR. I like it because you are able to interact with many people and try out different organizations. At the same time, explore new classes and meet new professors. I enjoy being in UCR, because this school has a lot of diversity and school spirit. And it is a great learning environment. And at night you can see the beautiful stars in the sky!
Bang for the buck
UCR has different opportunities to be able to receive financial aid through work-study and finding an on-campus job. It is a worthwhile school and offer scholarships.
Tips for prospective students
For students picking out a school or want to attend UC Riverside, I suggest that you work hard and look for a school that gives you a good financial aid packet. At the same time, how like Riverside the campus is diverse and has many opportunities for students. In addition, to check out the school and the location that it is located.
Great for these types of students
UCR is great for students who like diversity and at the same time aren't afraid to go a little far from home, because UC Riverside is only an hour an a half from Los Angeles and not that far from San Diego either. At the same time, UCR is great for students who like to explore their majors through the different colleges that Riverside offers and meet great, new people everywhere you go.

With the great diversity in the student body, one gets to learn and live with others from other ethnic groups. By living with these different people with different cultural backgrounds, one gets to celebrate the diversity that makes up our world.
Am enjoying being here
Students here are friendly and the learning environment is great, especially if you're an incoming student from high school.
Bang for the buck
UC Riverside is one of the most affordable UC campuses among the UC system.
Tips for prospective students
Get involved on campus! There is much more to do than to just sit in your dorm room and be on your computer all day long. There are tons of events that go on every week, but it's up to you to find them and to attend them!
Great for these types of students
This university is great for all students, especially those who want to learn more about themselves as well as others. Also, UC Riverside is a great place to learn about independence as well as being responsible for yourself away from your parents.

There are almost countless resources available to students who seek help in subjects. These include, but are not limited to, Supplementary Instruction classes, office hours, teaching assistants, the Learning Center, and success counselors. I found them extremely helpful while I was struggling through tough classes. The quarter system expects you to keep up, and adapt quickly. You will definitely learn tons-inside and outside the classroom!
Am enjoying being here
I honestly don't believe I belong anywhere else. The campus is well-kept, extremely diverse, and promotes many opportunities for students. There are many ways to get involved on campus! I was extremely surprised of this. I also met so many wonderful people, many of whom are true and kind. The university staff actually makes an attempt to get to know you on a personal level, and is usually very helpful. There are many hot spots in the surrounding areas of southern California, as well as a nearby University Village-made especially for UCR students!
Bang for the buck
We all know that college is expensive. Yet with all the opportunities laid out for you, countless free grand events and giveaways, club excursions, strong friendships and relationships, good variety of majors, prime location, and the helpful staff that only want the best for you, what more could you ask for the price? The financial aid office is also extremely helpful in making sure you get the state grants and loans you qualify for.
Tips for prospective students
Please don't make the same mistake I did freshman year-STUDY instead of EXPLORE half the time! Yes, I know it's a whole new world to discover. But keep in mind that you didn't come here to fail. You don't want to struggle in a certain class that serves as a huge prerequisite for many other classes, do you? If you need help, pursue it! People want to help, and the resources made available to you prove this. Don't forget to keep your head on straight as well. College is the perfect time and place to find yourself and try new things, but not if it harms your well being or mentality.
Great for these types of students
UCR is a great university for students that welcome diversity and opportunity. UCR is definitely and up-and-coming school. This year, our student mark exceeded 20,000 for the first time in UCR history! It truly is a great school.

The University of California, Riverside is based on a quarter system. This means that the students have finals every 10 weeks. There are 4 quarters overall. It may be a little difficult to go from being accustomed to the semester system and then go to quarters. But, professors at UCR to a great job in making sure that their students understand everything being taught. There are TA's available for questions, and professors have office hours in case students have any further questions on the material. There is also a learning center in case students need tutoring. Everything is very helpful.
Am enjoying being here
UCR has a variety of buildings in which the students can dorm. Dorming is the best way to get to know people and make friends. The hall for students becomes like a family. Their are also many activities this university has for its students. Dorm halls have their own meetings, their are various clubs to choose from and join, and their are also fun filled activities that the university plans, like concerts for example.
Bang for the buck
The University of California, Riverside is a bit pricey. However, There has been construction going on on campus to improve the university's campus for its students. Also, tuition goes to all of the university's fine resources. Some of this includes the library, gym, health center, online resources and so on.
Tips for prospective students
There are an incredible amount of resources at UCR and it is best if students use all of them. Not only are students paying for these resources in their tuition, but they are extremely useful. Using them often is suggested.
Great for these types of students
If you are planning on attending the University of California, Riverside, it is best if you like a big campus with a variety of different students. Also, students should like to learn things quickly, for the pace is a quick 10-week period of time. The classes are very large, too big for professors to know each student by name. But each professor does their best for their students.

The general education classes (especially Chemistry and the Math 009 series) are set up so that you are basically taking a year of the same class, so the material covered isn't too fast-paced, and it certainly is manageable. There is a wide range of classes to choose from, and fulfilling your breadth requirements certainly means you'll never be bored in class!
Am enjoying being here
The campus is so alive! There is so much to do during the day in between classes. The HUB lounge has so much to offer by way of entertainment, including the flat-screen TVs, multiple game systems, free WiFi, and Foosball tables. The people are so friendly, too! It seems everyone's just all smiles!
Bang for the buck
The recently remodeled buildings, like the HUB and the Student Recreation Center, provide ways for the students to participate in extracurricular activities. In terms of classes, since it's a UC, the professors are at the tops of their fields as they delve into their specified research topics, and the Teaching Assistants and Lab Assistants are all Master's degree students, so you'll definitely have an amazing all-around learning experience!
Tips for prospective students
If you plan on commuting, make sure you get to school earlier in the morning. The parking lots fill up insanely quickly.
Don't be afraid to talk to professors. As cheesy as it sounds, they are there to help you learn, and I promise they don't bite. Office hours are a great way to get to know your professors, TAs, and get help on homework and project questions. This connection will help a lot when you need to do research in your major later.

The professors here are really great and they are always willing to help out. The level of difficulty in the classes is great, but getting good grades is something that can be done if you go to your professor's office hours and ask questions. In addition to office hours, there are plenty of resources, such as discussions and supplemental instruction which are really helpful.
Am enjoying being here
UCR is a Great place. Everyone here is friendly. The campus is big but it is not huge which makes it easy to get around. The school has many great resources for students and there are an infinite amount of ways to get involved on and off campus (there is even a recreation center). UCR is also conveniently placed in Riverside, so there are plenty of things students can do during their free time such as go hiking, snowboarding or surfing.
Bang for the buck
Despite the increase in tuition due to budget cuts, UCR is really affordable compared to other schools. The class sizes can be as small as 12 students and as large as 200 students depending on the type of class being taken.
Tips for prospective students
Get involved in school. Go to office hours; this will help out a lot, especially when it is time to get letters of recommendation.
Great for these types of students
UCR is great for students who are serious about learning. Those who do not care about their academics and are out socializing most of their time will be gone by the first quarter. UCR is a research based institution, so for those of you planning on getting a PhD or some other type of advanced degree, this is a plus.

All of my professors and my TA's are very helpful in making sure I understand and gain knowledge on the subjects that are being taught to me. I am able to find time to study even though I live in the dorms, they are set up to be a good learning environment. I have access to outside help in the campus learning center.
Am enjoying being here
The weather is great if you like warmer weather. The students and residents are very diverse. No one is unfriendly and it is very easy to find things to do and to get around.
Bang for the buck
UC schools are expensive, but they are worth it. You have access to so much, and not mention they have a great reputation. UCR is a fairly new UC so it has no real stereotypes that go along with its name, besides being a very diverse school.
Tips for prospective students
My tip would be to make sure you have walking shoes, and find where all your classes are before hand!
Great for these types of students
This school is great for students who want to go to school with people of many different backgrounds. Also if you like the desert weather!

In three sentences
University of California Riverside is a school that expects the best from all of its students despite the different backgrounds one may come from. Therefore, the University of California Riverside offers assistance at a tutoring center called the ARC, a Health Professions Advising Center and many people that are more than willing to counsel students. With the diverse campus, students are exposed to different types of people who will certainly show them many perspectives in life and help them grow in all sorts of ways.
Tips for prospective students
To prospective students, in order to succeed in college one cannot satisfy to meet the minimum requirement, but has to seek further assistance to grow beyond. College is nothing like high school where memorizing is key, but students will be challenged to think, analyze and truly understand. Furthermore, remember that even though we are all here for an education, it is healthy to have a well balanced schedule and relax with friends.
Academic Rigor
As you go into the University of California Riverside, do not underestimate it's educational standards. This University holds all students accountable and capable of doing hard work, therefore nothing will be easy. With this, work hard and the challenge will be worth succeeding.
Dorm Life
The dorm life at the University of California Riverside is amazing. In fact, it is so amazing that many of my friends from other schools are jealous of the air conditioning, the heating system, the provided refrigerator and microwave and the atmosphere that we have. The University of California Riverside will become your home very quickly and it is hard not to love.
Food and Dining
Compared to other schools, the food at University of California Riverside is delicious and offers much variety. The chefs at University of California Riverside do take into consideration the suggestions of students and work to improve taste and quality. With this, University of California Riverside not only uses meal swipes as a way to obtain food, but offers dining dollars. Dining dollars are provided into the meal plan as an option that students can use to buy food from Starbucks, Coffee Bean, convenience stores on campus and in dorms, as well as fast food places with burgers, sandwiches, chicken nuggets and more.
What to do for fun
The University of California Riverside offers many opportunities for students to have fun such as music festivals, shopping from venders that come, and dances. Outside of campus, students have the option to explore Downtown Riverside and go to University Village to grab a bite or go watch a movie. Furthermore, many people enjoy visiting our Botanical Garden or hiking to the C on the top of the mountain.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
Overlooking the University of California Riverside is a C on top of the mountain. With this, it is said that if one hikes up to the C and kisses it before finals or midterms, that person will receive good luck!
Great for these types of students
University of California Riverside is great for students who love a diverse environment and are not scared to explore and take advantage of all the opportunities the school offers.
Campus Safety
University of California of Riverside does get quiet at night, but they do offer students a Campus Safety Escort Service to make them feel more comfortable. Campus Safety Escort Service allows students who don't feel comfortable walking alone to call for someone to walk them to whatever destination they may have to go to. This is very helpful for someone who may have late classes or would have to walk to their car at night and more.

The teachers here at UCR are really there for their students. Depending on the subject you are in, the interaction of level between student and teacher can very from just going to their office hours and asking question or set up a lunch date so that the meeting is more casual and relaxing for both the student and the teacher. They spend their time making sure that everyone understands the material that they are teaching. They welcome questions because that shows them that there are people her that want to learn and that motivates them even more.
Am enjoying being here
The environment here is so peaceful and also energetic at the same time. The people here are very friendly and are willing to help out if you ask. There is always someone here to guide you around school. When you want to escape a long week of studying and homework, there is always something fun to do on campus and off it as well. There are lots of activities around campus and even better just within walking distance, the University Theater is available to students, and if you get lucky like I did, you can also have a class there as well!
Bang for the buck
Like all great schools, the price for education is not cheap, nor is it that expensive. The price at first may seem outrageous, but all you have to do is check what exactly will you be paying for and deduct that from your tuition. For example, I am not living in a dorm so i don't have to include that in my tuition pay. There are several other variables that I don't have to pay for, so it is all a matter of what do you really need and what do you not need.
Tips for prospective students
My suggestions for new incoming students, is to make sure before you come here, do a lot of scholarships and also work on a FAFSA so that you don't have to pay that much for college. It is much easier to use scholarship money than to have to use your own. Work hard on your high school classes so that you won't be struggling during college. Once you are here, stay on top of your studies and classes. It's best to not get too sidetracked because there is no one holding your hand any more in college. Its hard to get back into gear once you have lost your way, but stay the course and you will do beautifully.
Great for these types of students
This school is great for any kind of student interested in becoming someone great in life, so that's pretty much everyone. They have great athletic programs, music programs, and various clubs and activities that can fit anyone's personality.
