The number of options here are immense. So, instead of listing everything one could possibly get into, I'll go into detail with what I find the most relevant to myself. I think the automatic belaying machines at the indoor rock climbing wall located at the university gym are wonderful. Not only that, the Los Padres mountains are only 30 minutes north of the campus, a national park famous for it's beauty and interesting trails. Of course, there is also the multitude of options for water sports available too. Surfing is a prevalent part of the region. For beginners who are interested in learning to surf, I would recommend renting gear from the UCSB Adventure Club (who offer many different types of sporting equipment) and heading South to find the easier and more consistent surfing zones. If the previous paragraph was read with glazed over eyes, consider instead browsing the list of more interesting student organizations at http://osl.sa.ucsb.edu/campus-organizations/getting-involved-at-ucsb/browse.

There are a ton of parties happening literally every weekend-usually put on by the fraternities and sororities and sometimes in assorted dorms. There are also movies on campus for a discounted fee (not new ones but still fun to go). The beach is also a quick walk or bike ride away (depending on which one you go to) and everyone walks around the lagoon for exercise-especially after lunch. Isla Vista is a little town just off campus with a couple of restaurants and shops, but for real shopping, you'll need to go off campus either by car or bus. There's great hiking in the Santa Barbara hills, and State Street has very cool shops in downtown Santa Barbara. There's an art fair every weekend along the beach, a decent zoo and botanical gardens, & wineries 30 min away.

There are many, many, many things to do for fun while at UCSB. You can always go to the beach, hang out around campus, or explore Isla Vista. There are always activities being hosted by EOP, Clubs, or Sports Games to attend. Our soccer games tend to get extremely heated. At UCSB there is never a dull moment.

Go to the beach and try your hand at surfing! Check out Isla Vista and try to catch an open mic night at Gio's Pizza or a trivia night at Woodstocks. Head down DP for some people watching or go a game at Harder Stadium to throw some tortillas as you watch the Gauchos kick butt in soccer! There is something for everyone here at UCSB, from the beach and hiking for the outdoorsy type to shopping and exploring the city.

go to the beach. surf. build a sand castle. procrastinate on that paper that's due in a couple days or that reading assigned during section. go hiking with friends! rattlesnake canyon (no rattlesnakes involved, promise) is a great trail. there are frequent free concerts in front of the ucen, and usually some sort of free food is involved. on that note, anisqoyo park in isla vista has events as well. shakespeare in the park is really fun! also, ucsb has some great sports teams. go support your fellow gauchos! the ra for your dorm will plan regular activities like painting baby pumpkins for halloween, coloring posters for the dorm, or a hawaiian themed luau.

people tend to go to the beach, hang out in each other's rooms, hang out in iv, go to downtown sb, etc. social life is pretty good here, which is why princeton review rated quality of life 95/99 (which is very stellar when places like berkeley and ucla get in the 70s or low 80s).

It won't take long to find something you can enjoy on or off campus at UCSB. When people say that UCSB is on the beach they are speaking LITERALLY not figuratively. Obviously, the beach is an option, but what else is there? From what I could see, there was a large student union building with extensive activities from arcade games to fuzeball. You can also check out artwork at the small art gallery. And while UCSB doesn't have a football team, they're called Soccer Heaven for a reason

Beach is 100 ft from the Santa Cruz dorms. Many good surf spots either walking distance or a bike ride away. Lots of events in Isla Vista such as the Pardall Carnival. The outdoor adventure club offers access to many fun outdoor activities. Tons of clubs to participate in, snow club takes ski trips throughout winter. Dorms also plan many social events right at the dorm halls.
