After I visited the campus, I went and saw the boardwalk. If you can get over the tourists, screaming children, and slightly overpriced, well, everything, then it's actually really cool.

To be honest, I volunteer for fun. I joined a club, CKI, and it basically took over my weekends. The best part about that club is that it is very service and social based. The school and the town are dead during the weekend, so joining a club is the best decision if you're like me. Another thing to do is to keep a watchful eye for activities from the other colleges. They might host an awesome convention, or maybe a mini zumba session. It depends on the person, if he/she wants to do something fun. They will eventually find it rather than sit around.

Going downtown is always fun, there are a lot of restaurants in downtown Santa Cruz. Once you are 21, there is also a great night life in downtown Santa Cruz including bars and clubs. If you are into nature (which you probably are if you chose to attend UC Santa Cruz: just look at the campus) then the Monterrey Bay Aquarium and Monarch trail at Natural Bridges are not far from downtown. A little touristy, the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is always a safe and fun bet for something to do. The first week of every school year, UCSC puts on a Beach Board Walk Frolic, where the boardwalk is closed down to the public, and students can enjoy rides and attractions together after purchasing a ticket. It's very fun and I would recommend it.

There's not much to do for fun unless you enjoy nature. The beach is a 15 minutes bus ride away and you can hike on the many trails that are on campus. There is also the Boardwalk with an arcade and fair style rides.

NOTHING. Except study--it's perfect for a college campus, I admit, whoever planned the construction of UCSC on top of a hill surrounded by trees and forest is GENIUS. You have absolutely nothing to distract you, and the closest thing to good entertainment/fun is probably San Jose, which is about an hour away by bus and less by car.

Downtown has a theater, a lot of local shops, and eateries, Pennys Ice Cream is great! The Boardwalk is fun if you want to get on rides or walk on the beach or surf. On Campus there are events run by student life, plays, dances and sport events.

For fun you can go to the gym where there is a swimming pool, big field of grass and a tennis court. As a student you can simply swipe your ID and use the facilities. Also going downtown through the bus is fun because you can see downtown santa cruz and eat lots of different foods.

going downtown for shopping is great or you can just go walk. Also the warf and the boardwalk are great with more shops and rides. There is also a mystery spot up here, i would encourage you to go.
