Join clubs! There's like two hundred and something official ones, which is really cool. This is the best way to make friends, which is the best way to have fun. Make sure to join at least one or two clubs that take a lot of time and involvement, because those are the ones that lead to lasting, deep friendships. A lot of people find that through Greek organizations, and there are plenty of them here, including typical social Greek life, academic, service, professional, and a few that are a mix of all of the above. A lot of people party, and while most freshman go to a few widely-promoted parties, it's more fun to get a good friend group and go to parties with people you actually know rather than ones you heard about on yik yak or something. There are also plenty of fun school-run things like free movies and free food and free shirts and free entertainment. Lots of free stuff.

You may have heard that Uconn is located in the middle of nowhere and that there is nothing to do besides watch the cows, but this hasn't been true in my experience. There's a movie theater in the Student Union, which plays new movies every Friday night. Also the Union has Late Night every Friday night, featuring karaoke and great food. There's an ice skating rink right by campus for when it gets colder out. Athletic events happen every single day, throughout the entire year, where you can watch the Huskies dominate their opponent per usual. Sometimes the university has really cheap bus trips to places like Boston or New York, which are a great way to get away with your friends for a day. There are also a bunch of parties Thursday-Saturday, especially when it's warmer out, which are really fun and a great way to meet a bunch of new people. On top of all that, Storrs Center is only a two minute bus ride away, with a bunch of restaurants and stores where you can shop. I rarely find myself bored on campus, and when I do its very easy to gather up some friends and find something to do.

The University of Connecticut is location in a very rural area, so you have to know how to take advantage of campus life in order to have fun. Downtown Storrs offers shopping centers and cafes and can be a great place to have lunch while trying to pretend you're not on campus, if one can afford it. Having a car on campus can be really beneficial because then you can go off campus for activities. However there are some activities that UConn offers that one can take advantage of. Further, there is a decent party scene and the local bar, Ted's, is a common place for students to go.

Thought the student recreation center is small, a larger, more high-tech one is in the design process.

There are of course the parties every weekend that most colleges have, but UConn also has late night every Friday night where you can go play games, win prizes, and get free stuff! Grabbing dinner at the union on Friday nights gets you delicious food and the opportunity to sing karaoke or listen to some students sing their hearts out. There are intramural sports year round that anyone can join. From the usual soccer and basketball, there is walleyball, volleyball, flag football, inner tube water polo and much more! The hundreds of clubs at UConn ensures something to do for every type of person.

There are over 500 clubs on campus so you're bound to find something. Many students also join Greek life or participate in intramural sports. During the Fall, hundreds of students spend their Saturdays tailgating and attending the football games and during the winter, Gampel is filled for basketball games!

There is not much to do for fun during the weekdays. The best you can do is probably go to the gym or hang out with friends. UConn is like a small town, so you will not find anything near by that students can go to regularly. On the weekends, there are the usual parties. We mostly throw parties in our frat houses due to neighbors and police. Girls get in for free, but guys do not if you aren't in the frat that is hosting; unless somebody puts you on the list. (which is stupid I know) For the guys, if you want to party, join a frat, because I have seen many guys do nothing on the weekends because they can not get in to parties. If you are hoping to experience crazy parties at UConn, let me be the first to burst your bubble, it doesn't happen like that here. I am in Pike and we also struggle to throw parties due to cops and neighbors. There are a lot of families that live in the houses near UConn , so they call the cops regularly. If you join a frat, join it for the parties, and always try to remember that SCHOOL comes first. Too many people get lost in all the hype, let there grades fall, and forget why they came here in the first place. I would not recommend this school if all you want to do is party.
