    What to do for fun

Go to the gym facility and work out. Also have many sport clubs to be apart of.

    Food and Dining

Great dinning facility. Consist of a Subway, Chick Fil-A, Starbucks, and other small restaurant. Also one block from Houston's very own Spaghetti Warehouse.

    Dorm Life

no dorms at University of Houston-Downtown

    Academic Rigor

Classes are small so you are able to communicate with everyone in the classroom even the professor. Also able to understand the lectures better.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not be afraid to talk to the advisors they are more than welcomed to help you on anything you need.

    In three sentences

This is a very friendly and diverse school. Located downtown in one of the best cities in the country. Strong school spirit. Affordable Tuition for a great school.

    What to do for fun

There is a Student Activities on the 2nd floor where students go and have fun for a while and there's a gym as well with awesome classes and trainers. We also have a library where its really quiet and you can even go take a nap there.

    Tips for prospective students

I recommend for future students to try it out, at least to do basics here and you'll see that its not bad and you'll will have yourself graduate from UHD. Get along a professor, as in UHD is it real easy to do because all of them care for you. Lastly, as soon as your a freshman, don't distract yourself because you'll regret it later.

    In three sentences

Its a wonderful experience coming to this University as a first in the family to go to college. The classes are small so you have a good chance to know the professor and even understand more in lectures. You may not have the dorm and all that good stuff experience but what really does matter is getting a degree and what you really did in school while studying.

    Campus Safety

I have to rate it with three stars because being in downtown its easy for people to get in even if they don't attend. It's not uncommon to see a homeless person walking into the school but they are no the problem. The problem is this last semester I got quite a few alerts in email about security issues such as cars being broken into, items stolen, and the worst one was an attempted assault on a woman by an armed man in a ladies bathroom. Thankfully, she wasnt harmed but I think it also comes with the territory that as a school set right in the middle of downtown we are very exposed.

    Greek Life

There are sororities and fraternities that like to recruit a lot at the beginning of every year, and I have seen them do some step routines in the hallways every once i a while.

    Clubs and Activities

Pretty much any physical activity club minus swimming, ice sports and martial arts(which is a shame). There is also drama, math, science, chemistry, law and many more clubs so there are no shortages there.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students who dont feel like they need to go to a party school because this is not that. People who are focused and like to reach out to other people for study groups and sessions. This school is good for people who have kids and are trying to pay for school and also manage time.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Every year student association tries to do new events to reach out to the community such as a halloween trick or treat night, a rocky horror picture show showing, a fundraiser, or some sort of concert.

    Bang for the buck

Buying books at the school will cost a ton so be smart and write down all of the ISBN numbers which can be found on the back or front of your textbooks and its the number that starts with 978 on the barcode looking part. Search for them online and you will have all that money to SAVE. This university is really half the cost of the main campus and about a fourth of the cost of a university out of the city but it is worth saving the money if you can find your major at UHD and graduate or stay here for a couple years until you transfer.

    What to do for fun

There is not a football field but there is however a flag football team, a soccer team, volleyball, and other such fitness geared clubs. I personally like to find my friends in the basketball court and play for a bit or join a zumba class. For people who like acting there's always a play that the drama club is putting together and the people are really friendly. There is also my personal favorite, which is the art gallery on the third floor that is always featuring local artists and is open to anyone who just wants to pop in and look and some local art or art from the art class projects. There is also a group of people who go outside almost every week to play soccer in front of the gym on the third floor and they always lose the ball.

    Food and Dining

They have a starbucks, a burger place/breakfast sandwich place, chik-fil-a, a salad bar ( that is really good and the lady who works there is very sweet), subway and a pizza place. Overall, I prefer to eat the salads because they are huge and they are the healthiest option and I love that there is a starbucks as well (for obvious reasons).

    Dorm Life

    I live at home

    Academic Rigor

Don't be fooled by the commuter school feel, because the professors do take their jobs seriously and they do not play around. This is especially true for science professors and english professors. So far in the elective courses the professors all seem to have the same mind set which is that the first priority is that you are able to pass their class. Therefore, i find the school lacks in its expectations of the professor in some departments more than others and in some the expectations are very high.

    Tips for prospective students

Remember that being on top of every assignment is first priority and try not to let one class consume all of your study time or to leave one class as a last priority because its easy. For this school in particular you should always be prepared so don't forget your scantron when you have a test or your sweater because it does get cold. Lastly, this may not be a school with a huge football field or constant social events but that does not mean it is impossible to be social and sometimes the people you meet in your classes can become your best allies in making good grades and good friends.

    In three sentences

Attending this university is an amazing option for people who don't have the money for colleges like the main campus and it does offer many opportunities for students to explore careers. The orientation of the school in the middle of downtown can be daunting for some when it comes to Houston traffic, but as far as I can see many students who live up to an hour away are willing to make the journey. Also, this is an up and coming school that just built an entirely new wing in the main building for research rooms and for health classes in order to make room for the new Health major that will be offered there in the fall of 2015.

    What to do for fun

I regularly watch the turtles in the landmark Buffalo Bayou that flows under the bridge upon which the main building is situated. I am pursuing a law degree and can walk from the main building to the various courts and the Harris County law library in 10 minutes. There are also hundreds of restaurants and shops in downtown. At night Main Street is transformed into a club scene with countless genres of music.

    Food and Dining

Downtown offers dining opportunities ranging from fast food giants McDonald's and Subway to epicurean venues Vic & Anthony's, the world famous steakhouse, and the Aquarium, with its indoor shark tank and amusement park.

    Dorm Life

UHD does not have a dorm.

    Academic Rigor

I have not attended any classes yet. I will update this review when I do.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit the campus at different times of day to acclimate yourself to the action on and off campus.

    In three sentences

UHD is a quality university that has small classes and numerous connections with the business community. The centralized location in downtown Houston make commuting easy and provides opportunities for students to walk to the office buildings to put in applications and to seek internships. My sister graduated UHD and is a successful CPA.

    Tips for prospective students

Learn your way around the area and familiarize yourself with driving through and around downtown. Keeping change in your car for parking is always a good idea. If you plan on purchasing a parking pass for the semester be sure to request parking ASAP. The good parking goes fast. The least favored parking lot is a little more than a mile away from the main building.

    In three sentences

A good place to get used to the faster pace of a college environment. Like all schools, it has its great professors and its not so great professors. UHD is comprised of three main buildings in downtown Houston which are very close to each other but because students, professors, and staff members all call the buildings by different names, it can get confusing trying to figure out which building is which.

    Campus Safety

They have campus police to look around, however, there are still have rob events happen.

    Clubs and Activities

You can't stay up late in UHD, UHD will close at night, so it's not a place to study or play stay up late.

Great for these types of students

It's a great university for self-study students or adult students, they provide equipment you need, then the thing is that you need to ask for that, do you self work.

    Bang for the buck

Every university has a writing center, if you love writing but not in English literature major, this could be best deal for you. As you grow up in the university, your writing skills also improved, and it can be a big thing to put on your resume.

    What to do for fun

Seriously, because UHD is a small size university, there are only 40 student organizations or so. It's a good thing to some students include me, because I would like to create a new student organization, and do best on it, make it deliver to next generation.

    Food and Dining

UHD located in Houston downtown, so near UHD, there are tons of restaurants that students can choose. In addition, UHD do have a large food restaurant, so there is no worries that student must go out to eat.

    Dorm Life

Because UHD doesn't have specific housing service for students, also because the most students who choose UHD live in Houston, it's unclear to describe dorm life in UHD.

    Academic Rigor

For those student who get less than 2.5 GPA, want to get in Business college, UHD is not fit to you.

    Tips for prospective students

UHD don't provide specific housing service to student, if you need to rent an apartment, you better need to talk to the people who responsible for this kind of thing.

    In three sentences

University of Houston-Downtown is a school that you wouldn't lost in campus. Unlike large size university, you need a map to get direction for not short tern time, drive several minutes to tons minutes to go from one building to another building; in UHD, you only need to walk few minutes from one building to another one.

    Campus Safety

I definitely felt safe because a cop car would always patrol or be posted. At night the buildings and surrounding areas are well lite.

    Clubs and Activities

Tons of clubs and activities. Get involved in what you love.

Great for these types of students

Full-time workers, Senior citizens, Housewives, Stay-at-home Dads, and people straight out of community college that does not want the big campus dorm life.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are no unusual traditions. They have events and fairs like any other campus.

    Bang for the buck

Buy your books online instead at the bookstore on campus. Will save tons of money. Then sale your book online as well. Renting is always a buck saver as well.

    What to do for fun

Hang out in the library or join the gym activities. There is always something going on in the day at the main building.

    Food and Dining

Not many options but still at something to eat. Plenty of spots to sit.

    Academic Rigor

This will truly depend on your professor. I had one professor that only talked about himself and really didn't teach anything. His class was very self learned. Then I had another professor who broke down the steps of processing accounting then let you work some problems in class until you understood.

    Tips for prospective students

Working full-time and school is extremely hard. Make sure you take your Summer breaks so you do not get overwhelmed with the course work. Know the tutor hours at the building you will be attending.

    In three sentences

Professors lecture more than they teach. The amount of classes and hours available to night students are low. Still there are very friendly professors and staff members.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved!!! This university has multiple clubs and organizations to get involved in!!!

    In three sentences

This is a pretty good university despite the size of it. Your class size is smaller than the typical university so you get more one on one time with your professors and you meet great people. This is considered a commuter school so pretty much each student tends to value the importance of their education.

UHD spends its first few days back in school proudly displaying all their social clubs and activities. There is someone available for anyone, from sports, to GLBT, they have dance clubs and theater organizations. You don't even have to look for them the whole first week they make themselves completely available to everyone.

    Food and Dining

There is one small cafeteria that gets full quickly, but plenty of options for people to choose from. There are also a few small shops located around campus for students to get things to snack on and drinks as well.

    Dorm Life

    There are no student Dorms.

    Academic Rigor

I find myself putting in hours and hours of work for one class. Which is the way a college class should be about 4-6 hours per class, outside of class time; which is the minimum I can put in for some of these classes.

    Tips for prospective students

Work hard and study, that's the only way to get anything out of life, and the only way to make it though this college. The teachers will always be there to help you but they will not take you by the hand and walk you to your diploma.

    In three sentences

Its a good school with small one-on-one classes. The environment is kind and the teachers are always making themselves available to us. I have yet to take a class and not be more than satisfied with the teaching method or amount of help provided for the students.

There are several play theaters a few blocks away from campus as well as bars and dining establishments. There are many sports and concert venues in downtown Houston as well. For those more into nature-Discovery Green park offers free yoga, dancing classes, other exercise classes, canoeing/kayaking (for a small fee). During the winter, the lake is turned into an ice-skating rink.

    Food and Dining

The food and dining experience is somewhat diverse at this university. There are options for those requiring special diets (vegetarian, vegan) and also specialty foods (eg-sushi). This campus also has a subway, chic-fil-a, starbucks, and a salad bar as well as a pizza joint and grille station. Prices are what you would expect dining at the same places outside of the campus.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms on campus as of yet. It is currently something that is being looked into creating in the next few years. However, there are plenty of apartments in the surrounding area. The University of Houston main campus a few miles away allows for the University of Houston-Downtown students to reside in some of its on campus facilities.

    Academic Rigor

I give the academic rigor of the school a 4 out of 5. While most classes can be easier than others, there are a few out there that every major has to take that are harder. College requires discipline and hard work.

    Tips for prospective students

Because the campus is not huge it is easy to find your way to classes, dining hall and library. Be sure to attend orientation and take advantage of the speaker opportunities that are offered.

    In three sentences

This smaller university offers a unique experience to those who attend because it is located in downtown Houston. It gives exposure to those working in the professional industry downtown and has many opportunities for speakers of the professional world to give tips to students for what they can do while in school to land a job after graduation. Many professors have a strong passion and drive for what they do and actively engage in each student's life.

There is a student center where you can play video games, billiards, air hockey, or Foosball. You can also head to the gymnasium to play basketball, football, or volleyball.

    Food and Dining

As commuting school it doesn't really need a cafeteria with chefs and cooks so instead they have a four simple options/places to eat from. Those include Chick-fil-a, Grilled Works, Subway, and a pizzeria.

The only downside about UHD is that there are no dormitories for the school it is currently only a commuting school. Even though talks about building a dorm have come about there has yet to be any progress made towards it.

    Academic Rigor

Your professors will push you to complete your work and also study. You have Breakfast available at a Grill restaurant that can serve you many combinations of biscuits, bacon, eggs, pancakes when you're done with your early morning class. Grab lunch at the Chick Fil A express, and there is also a pretty well sized salad bar, or grab a slice at the Pizza joint. If you're thirsty, there is a Starbucks Coffee right outside of the Cafeteria.

Use as many resources that the University has to offer, that's the best way to come out of here in the spotlight.

I am aware of other Universities around Houston who may have a lot more because they're so much larger, but the University of Houston - Downtown has a much easier channel of networking and more easily accessible resources and is less crowded when it comes to the lines for advising and counseling, financial aid, lunch, and events around Campus.

    Campus Safety

Like any typical college campus, there's thievery every now and then. However, since I came on campus there hasn't been an instance of it!

    Clubs and Activities

Since this is a small campus, there's not TOO many choices of things to do. However, from the stuff available, it's varied greatly - from sororities to a manga and gaming club, to the newest organization, called Out of Sight! I made it! Sent in the paperwork and it's an official organization at UHD! It's an a cappella glee club hybrid!

Great for these types of students

For people who love city life, UHD is the place to go! A shopping district is close by, so just hop on the tram and you're there! Places to eat and things to see, it's great for quick breaks. It's wonderful for live at home students.

    Bang for the buck

Because I live at home and live in Houston, tuition is super cheap (no more than 3k). UHD is actually a 10-15 minute bus ride from my house. However, the books and food? A little overpriced! I had the option to choose to go to the same school my twin sister is going to - which is actually University of Houston main campus - but her costs are way more than mine! For a public university at this price, easy access? It's pretty dang good.

    What to do for fun

Go downtown! Take a walk near the bayou! Take the bus to the local grocery stores (I know a few that'll take you there). Open-Mic sessions are available sometimes in the Student Activities center (where students have the option to recite poetry or sing in front of students, stuff like that). Lots of fun events are held to raise awareness of events, such as the Walk to Vote or AIDS Awareness Day. Giveaways and freebies!

    Food and Dining

Food's a little over priced. They have a Subway, a salad bar, some random pick-ups (for example, grab sushi or pudding on your way out), Chick-Fil-A, GrilleWorks, Starbucks, Smoothie King... That's from what I remember. The choices aren't elaborate. However, there's a new addition - food trucks. Starting from the late Fall 2012 semester, UHD's SGA has been able to have food trucks come over here. It's one or two food trucks every week, stuff like Coreanos and Waffle Bus. And if you don't like that stuff, downtown also hosts some fine dining!

    Dorm Life

No dorms - but guess what? UHD's Student Government Association is currently working on plans to create dorms for the university!

    Academic Rigor

At first, I didn't take it seriously. But after not using my textbooks and showing up to class on time, I realized that these professors aren't joking around. Some of them are easy to get along with, but that doesn't mean they'll cut you any slack!

    Tips for prospective students

Please, always make sure you buy your textbooks. Without them, you're nothing!

    In three sentences

The campus is wonderful - it's so small, so it makes traveling from the different buildings a breeze! The classes are small as well (it's almost like high school, so it'll give you a familiar feeling). UHD has a lot of pride in their students, and every day they are putting themselves out there, getting recognized.

    Campus Safety

We have a police station on campus and the cruisers and bicyclers are constantly surveying the area. After dark you can even call an officer to escort you to your car if you want. If any event happens students usually receive emails and text messages, assuming they registered for the alert program, which the school strongly promotes.

    Greek Life

Greek life barely exists on campus. It there but no one really knows about them. Occasionally I'll see sorority girls with their personalized purses but other than that bunch Greek life is quiet.

    Clubs and Activities

Other than the sports activities in the gym there isn't much of a selection. There are two recreational clubs: psychology club and the photography club. Otherwise there are competitive academic band apply for membership organizations.

Great for these types of students

The large amount of the student body consists of parents, full-time workers and student employees. Everyone on campus works hard to stay in school and further their education. Students who are serious about furthering their education would fit in nicely.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

It is best not to wander too far when you are under the north deck. The school is located next to a jail but fortunately we also have a police station stationed on our campus. The campus is very family friend so there is no party atmosphere.

    Bang for the buck

I pay about twenty-seven hundred a semester in tuition and that includes an annual (both semesters) surface lot parking permit. There is also a parking garage but there is usually traffic in the area. You receive free access to the gym facility.

    What to do for fun

The gym facility offers tons of tournaments, team, and intramural sports events. University of Houston - Downtown does not have any official team other than intramural and club teams. U.H.D usually has tons of festivals and family friendly events.

    Food and Dining

The options in the cafeteria are limited. There is a Starbucks, Subway, Pizza Parlor, Chick-fil-A , a burger place, smoothie king, and a salad bar. However, due to University of Houston - Downtown's location you can just ride the light-rail into downtown and find tons of restaurants or fast food options.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms. There are lockers ($25 per semester) in the basement of the academic building and showers in the gym facility (as well as more lockers). There is even a tiny shop, in the academic building, where they sell clothes, food and hygienic items.

    Academic Rigor

All the professors I've had have come off as somewhat serious, but usually by the end of the second month they let loose. Some classes have been demanding more that others but I've gone into those classes knowing this. I find that seventy percent of the time ratemyprofessor is accurate on University of Houston - Downtown professors.

    Tips for prospective students

Prospective students should tour the facility at least once before starting class, so that they will know all the pathways. Study rooms aren't great but there are plenty of other areas that provide a study environment like the eighth floor of the main building. If you have a bike, it helps with short cuts, but due to the current construction the walkways are cramped and constantly changing.

    In three sentences

The university has small classes, great to get to know your professor. The professors are usually great, some will even help you after graduation. Parking can be tough and there aren't many food options in the cafeteria.

    Dorm Life

Urban school, no dorm life. This campus does not have campus living in the traditional form of the word.

    Academic Rigor

Academics here are no joke. They are strict about your studies. They have different academic centers if you need help.

    Tips for prospective students

One major tip is to drink in your surroundings. The staff is super nice they are there to help and so are the students. No matter your age or your career path you are bound to make friends.

Awesome, if you bother to check it out.

Great for these types of students

Studious and fun students. You can have both.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The Library is amazing! You can go deep into it and no one would discover you. It's like being in your own world.

    Bang for the buck

The school is huge and the parking is great, because buses are provided to take you to and from school to the various parking lots.

    What to do for fun

The activity room is great, you can play wii, pool and do lots of other amazing things

    Food and Dining

They have a wide range of food, healthy or otherwise.

    Dorm Life

They do not have dormitories yet.

    Academic Rigor

The school is very intellectually oriented. You have to study to pass although, there are a lot of international experiences to go with the learning.

    Tips for prospective students

See the counsellors regularly and make sure you ask for a prospective degree plan so you can plan for the future.

    In three sentences

It is an academically oriented college that still fosters fun. It also has a dining area that is pretty great and not very expensive. The classes are actually small and the teachers practically educate you personally.

    Campus Safety

The police are never close enough than at this campus. With a police station on the first floor, and the Police Academy for training Cadets, as well as police officers monitoring the train station right in front of the school, security is equal to safety here.

    Greek Life

Greek Life is very active in UHD, with a number of different fraternities and sororities, it feels just like any other college.

    Clubs and Activities

So many clubs and activities to be a part of, if you're not in one, you're avoiding them. They're everywhere! So much quality in everything they do, many of these clubs are dedicated students who only do more for their clubs and groups than is imaginable. As well as all the activities the school sponsors around campus freely, you may be walking to lunch one day and get caught dancing with the Student Activities team on the North Deck!

Great for these types of students

If you like to be able to get to know your instructor, or be able to have a one-on-one conversation with ease, UHD is a great place to go. As well for students who like a more compact environment who enjoy being able to not have to walk a mile to get to class and be at ease because of it.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are plenty of nightclubs and restaurants surrounding the campus, but to be honest most students always seem to gravitate towards the Student Activities Center on the second floor. Be it billiards, video games, ping pong, or the computer lab, it's easy to see why many students call it a second home.

    Bang for the buck

For UHD's pricing, and in comparison to what some other institutions charge for core class requirements, UHD is a blessing. With plenty of great instructors who will work with their students, tutoring and student aids to help you in class and out, and a smaller class size to help instructors personally be able to help you, UHD is worth so much more than what they charge.

    What to do for fun

Go to the gym! Go play pool on the second floor! Play video games on the second floor! Hit the indoor basketball courts at the gym! Run the trail surrounding the campus around the bayou! Or just head into Downtown and head to all the different places for fun! Or you could join one of the many activity clubs or groups at UHD!

    Food and Dining

With plenty of options for food, whether in the cafeteria, the snacks and ready-to-go meals for busy students at the bookstore, the Starbucks, Smoothie King, or even going Downtown to explore all of Houston's great restaurants, UHD has a great selection for food.

    Dorm Life

The dorms for UHD are located at University of Houston Main Campus, which all hold great quality dorm rooms and have a great system.

    Academic Rigor

UHD is now bumping up their school academic policies and providing a much more challenging institution of education for their students starting this year.

    Tips for prospective students

Take your core at UHD, and even if they do have your intended major, you will be prepared to transfer to another college with the skills you need to know.

    In three sentences

Wonderful University, provides a great and centered experience. If you're just getting out of high school and scared of where to turn to start your college semester, UHD is a great college to start with rather than Houston Community College and can even be a great place to graduate from.

    Bang for the buck

Definitely afforadable. Students who have good grades in high school will get the best out of the financial aid.

    What to do for fun

A lot of events are held on campus like the Halloween Bash, Culture on the Bayou and more. The metro rail is right in front of the campus. You can take it right to Houston Pavillions for some shopping, the museum districts, the Houston Zoo and also Discovery green park. On campus we have our student life building with the gym that is included in our tuition and also there is a recreation center with foosball, billiards, ping pong tables and video games.

    Food and Dining

Located right in Downtown Houston, UHD has a variety of restaurants just a few blocks away. We have the underground tunnels with about 20 different restaurant options like mexican, cuban, french, chinese, american, and many more, not to mention all the upscale restaurants. We also have our cafeteria right on campus with Chik Fil a, Smoothie King, Subway, Starbucks and etc.

    Dorm Life

Unfortunately, we have no dorms yet. Some students stay at the dorms on the Main Campus site. Other students find very afforable rooms nearby downtown.

    Academic Rigor

It all depends on what kind of student you are. Don't expect it to be junior college easy because it isn't. If you are a focused and dedicated student you should have no problem.

    Tips for prospective students

As a sophomore at UHD, I suggest for new students to take advantages of the many programs and services we have. We have a Math and Writing Lab where students can get free tutoring. We have the Scholars Academy that gives undergraduate students the opportunity to do actual research. This program is for students who are majoring in the sciences, math and information technology.

    In three sentences

The University of Houston Downtown is making a name for itself. It is very affordable, class sizes are about 25 students and there is a lot of opportunity for growth as a student. You get a one on one experience with professors who actually know your name and everyone at the university wants to help you succeed.

    What to do for fun

I usually hang out in the courtyard with a few of my friends. You can always go to the gym for a quick work out as well. College is all about meeting new people so you can find me trying to network and doing so is fun all on its own.

    Food and Dining

Cafeteria has a good selection of food. Of course you can always go downtown to grab a quick bite to eat if you have time. Overall the food is good.

    Dorm Life

I'm not sure about the dorm life because i don't live in the dorms, but i would imagine it's just like any other college.

    Academic Rigor

Teacher's here are firm but fair. Just like any other college they expect alot from a college student. If you are serious about learning and do what they ask of you, you should be fine.

    Tips for prospective students

Although tuition isn't too high i would highly recommend to fill out the FASFA application as soon as possible to help with paying for school. The tour they offer was very educational and helps with alot of questions you might have. I would visit the campus as often as possible to get a feel for the ambiance and environment.

    In three sentences

The University of Houston Downtown is a great place to study. It is conviniently located in a central location which makes it easy for students to take the bus. The tuition is reasonably priced which makes it an attractive shool to study at.

    Bang for the buck

Still getting better aquainted (myself); local venues never disappoint in this great city.

    What to do for fun

What's not to enjoy: you're situated downtown pampered by the cultural diversity. Now that I think about it, humanity-focused majors are REALLY lucky.

    Academic Rigor

You will be challenged, but don't fret: you're in an environment where no student is left behind; the school is committed to your success.

    Tips for prospective students

There is hope. I am going back (for a second chance) and I can afford to do so at this school. Let there be no excuses standing in your way in pursuing your better, educational self. You'll like who you'll become, I promise.

    In three sentences

    Campus Safety

The campus was very safe because there was security EVERY WHERE. If you didn't feel safe, there was a button you could press on most walls, where you could talk to an officer and they would come and walk you wherever you need to go. They also had a police office on the first floor which made you feel safer. Usually, there was also security in the parking lot.

    Clubs and Activities

They had many clubs and activities. They would always post fliers on the wall advertising their meeting times and some information about the club/activity. Most of them were free!

    Food and Dining

Their dining area in the Academic building was great. They served Subway, Chic-Fil-A, salads, and much more. It wasn't expensive at all. It also included pizza and sushi.

Great for these types of students

Students who are not financially blessed Students who want to go somewhere near Downtown Students who have to drive to school. (like me) Students who want their whole tuition paid if they're a STEM major (me as well ) Returning students

    Tips for prospective students

Keep in mind that this is a University so there will be lots of hard work along with fun, even if it's not considered one of the best in the world, with the best college experience it does provide what you need. 1. Work hard 2. Don't play around especially if it's your first year because it'll be hard to pick yourself up again 3. Always remind yourself why your there or you may forget (hopefully it's to get an education not party!) and have fun :D

    Bang for the buck

Probably the best thing about the school is it's half the cost of the University of Houston. Great for students who don't have the financial security many others do and returning students. There's also great scholarships offered, and if your a STEM major (science, technology, engineering, or math) you can get a full ride scholarship with the Scholar's Academy which is an academically competitive program in the College of Sciences and Technology that promotes scholarship and student success for undergraduate students

    Am enjoying being here

Even though this school isn't given much credit for the college experience it has opportunities to join really great clubs hosts events that allow enough student interaction and encourages meeting new people through the free food socials it has. It's also located right in downtown so you can find all the great clubs and restaurants near here. You can even take the metro rail to go to the underground Mall. The only thing i don't like is the long drive which is about an hour, so if you live far i would suggest taking the bus.

    Am learning a lot

I'm learning a lot because of the great student to teacher ratios, the classes aren't as huge as the University of Houston's classes which allows you more one on one time with your professors, which will be really helpful when you need that letter of recommendation. Also professors love doing research with students so if you plan to be a Graduate Student right now is the time to start researching with those professors.
