UMF really is one of the most affordable schools in Maine. If you are attending UMF for one of the programs they are well-known for (i.e., Education, Creative Writing, Psychology) then it is absolutely worth the money. I have received a great education and have had amazing professors. The aspect of the school that I do not think is worth the money would be the room and board. For the facilities you get, I think it is a better value to live off-campus as rent in the area is very affordable and it's easy to find an apartment that is in walking distance of all classes (even though I lived on campus for three years and enjoyed it very much).
