  • Although this review will be based on stereotypes, this is the culture around the dorms our school has created (and sometimes it can be pretty accurate). We have two all…

Extremely healthy and organic, the food is all sourced from farms within a 50-mile radius of the campus. The food is really tasty and beautifully displayed but remains over-priced. Also, because all of the food is organic occasionally a bug will appear in someone's salad.

I have a strange diet and that isn't always met, so I shop at Mack's market frequently! It's full of organic, gluten-free and locally grown foods. Portland styled! But on the weekends the Commons has extended brunch hours so I always meet up for a waffle or two with a small group of friend's every Saturday and Sunday. There's a lot of space for any number of group, big and small.

The food isn't bad, and is generally almost all locally grown/made. But there isn't always as much variety as I'd like, and it messes with your stomach sometimes.

Ah, Bon Appetit.... put it this way. Generally, the food is pretty good, though they have some off days. My major gripe is that the food comes at restaurant prices, and as a college student, I have a really hard time affording that.

Bon Appetite is the catering company for our school. They contracted with the city not to allow any other food establishments within a one mile radius of our school. Don't let that stop you from exploring off campus options though. Mio Sushi, Thai Ginger, Cha! Cha! Cha!, and East Side Deli are some of the more popular places close to campus. The on campus food in the cove and the commons can get kind of boring since it's the same stuff every week, but the commons has done a really good job of trying to mix things up once in a while this year. Pizza, salad, soups, and burgers are the staples that never change in the commons. We have stations called carve, global, and bowls that serve different things every week. The carve usually serves things like rotisserie chicken or meatloaf and mashed potatoes (not to mention the mac&cheese which is the best!). Global serves anything from thai to indian to french. Bowls involves the ever popular taqueria, Mediterranean, and even Hawaiian food options! Serving sizes are huge and I did actually gain the freshman 15...

Bon App tries to give variety and good food... but it can be tough to find good, healthy options. But the general manager is pretty flexible and tries to accommodate when people ask him for specific things. There's some gluten free options. The staff is pretty nice - as long as you're nice to them.

Our dining hall, the commons, is an amazing place to catch up and talk with friends or curl up next to the fireplace and study. The food is delicious, because a lot of it is locally grown. We have multiple starbucks on campus that you can use your meal points to pay for as well as a sushi chef for lunches.

The food is the absolute best thing about Portland! Bon Appetit, who runs our Commons and The Cove (and hires student workers), know EXACTLY what they're doing culinary wise. I am never bored with my choices and there is always something new to try and something classic to fall back on.

We are a school without frats, but there are parties still. Even if there isn't, get a small group of friends together and make your own. There are so many people you can connect with, without feeling drowned by a huge population of students.

There is no greek life on campus, but you would think some of the dorms could be fraternities or sororities with the amount of spirit they have.
