Founded in 1900, University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras is Puerto Rico’s first public university and the most extensive in the UPR system. The Carnegie Foundation designates the school as having “high research activity.” The Institute of Caribbean Studies at the Rio Piedras campus is an interdisciplinary research institute focused on the life and environment of the “Greater Caribbean.” UPR-RP is also home to the Museum of Art, History, and Anthropology which sponsors seminars and workshops as well as exhibiting works of art.
