Charlottesville is a great town and there's lots to do on or off campus. I prefer the campus scene, but there is always something going on in downtown Charlottesville. The Corner is a favorite among UVA students as is the university's amphitheater for major events.

Go garden at morven gardens, nestled in a quiet farm half and hour away from campus. Go apple-picking the the local orchard; go to hump back mountai nand swim or hike or camp out with good friends; go study in the lounge with a study buddy when everyone else is busy going out--you'll get a lot done or not, but it's all for you! Go read in some beautiful little spot under a huge, ancient tree and feel the beauty of being outside, go to the biggest Jacuzzi on the east coast (Aquatic Fitness Center is where it's at!), go on a run out doors (hey, it's hilly--good for your legs!), go to Harriss Teeter at 3 AM (24 hour super-market? YES). There's so much to do for fun here, just stay safe, and remember that you're going to find all kinds of fun outside of the usual frat and party scene!! Also, you can always take a trip downtown to do some shopping, ride courtesy of the Free Trolley (it's green and old-fashioned themed, so it's pretty neat).

There are many free parties here at University of Virginia. If you are into frat parties and whatnot, Rugby Road near the Corner is where many frat houses and sorority houses are located. Also, many organizations like the Asian organizations hold their own parties, but welcomes everyone to come! If you are not into parties, then there are free and not-free events such as A cappella concerts, comedy concerts, choral concerts, sports games!

Downtown Charlottesville is a great place to go with friends to shop or eat. Another place to go is the Corner or even Monticello. There is also apple-picking in the right season.

If you're into the social scene, it's good. If you wanna hike a mountain - there are plenty. If you want to plant a garden - you guessed it. If you want to watch a movie - $2 movie night. If you want to listen to local music - you're just a free trolley ride away.

There are many restaurants, bars, etc around campus, the Corner, Downtown, Barracks. Charlottesville also offers Saturday Farmer Markets, small concerts and festivals. There's so much to be explored outside of campus.

Join clubs that allow for any sort of travel and carpooling, whether local or out of town. Volunteer within the community, and grow local friendships- NOT just with other students. Spend time downtown.
