Am learning a lot
I am going into my second year at WKU and I feel that I have already noticed a big difference in how I think about certain topics. The majority of my professors have opened up my eyes to certain topics that never really crossed my mind in high school. Because of this quality education I began to feel a higher sense of maturity which is a big part of the first year in college. The professors seem to take a big interest in their students in making sure that they attend class and work towards bettering themselves as a student.
Am enjoying being here
I think that living in the dorms for the first two years made the college experience. You slowly form a bond with people that you are living with and therefore build onto the social life that you work towards. It definitely makes the overall experience more enjoyable for students if they get involved.
Bang for the buck
Although the tuition is a bit high, I feel like the price is worth it. Advisers are very helpful in starting students off properly. Students are made aware of their General Education requirements and are informed of the prerequisites they need to obtain in order to reach administration into the desired Major. With this great assistance, along-side an overall comforting and enjoyable environment, the price is definitely worth it.
Tips for prospective students
Its best to see the university first-hand. The only way to really get a feel for it all is to schedule a visit and take part in one of the many tours that are offered by the students of Western Leaders. The website is also very helpful in seeing what all the university has to offer. Either of these options would be helpful for students interested in attending.
Great for these types of students
Western Kentucky has an several award winning programs that students can look into. One big thing that makes Western so unique is the emphasis that they put on International Reach. They offer a great opportunity for students of other countries to attend the university and also introduce a Study Abroad program for those interested in traveling outside the United States.

As a high schooler, you constantly hear College is hard or Don't expect to be babied/pampered in college like you are in high school. These statements leave you questioning are you really going to make in in college, more importantly, through college? Sure you might have slacked off in high school and you might not have necessarily had to study for that big test, but rest assured, you will make it. Here at Western, we have an impressive faculty and staff that are always there to help you in whatever you need. They are very willing to sit down and take time out of their busy schedule to address any problem or struggle you may have. Their main goal is to do whatever they can to help you succeed; to prepare you for the real world. And on top of that, they are very well prepared in the subject that they are teaching. While Western Kentucky University may not be an ivy league school, you still have many opportunities to get the same education you might have gotten at an ivy league school.

As a local, WKU seemed like settling. When deciding on a college, one of the main goals is to get out of your hometown, right? WKU is a great school with good professors, tons of social activities, and a beautiful scenery. What's not to love about Western Kentucky University?
Bang for the buck
I would say that the tuition at Western is pretty average compared to other colleges. And again, you do get a quality education.
Tips for prospective students
- Attend class. While it is easy to just sleep in and not attend class, it's probably not the wisest decision. You miss out on not only a lecture that contained information for your next tests, but also any extra credit opportunities (yes, we still have those in college) and homework assignments.
- Find a good group of friends. If you are coming from a far distance and don't know a single person, don't worry. There is a social group that fits anyone and everyone's personal interests.
- Study. Trust me, the test here are not like the ones in high school. They're not the tests that you could just take without even so much as looking over your notes. It is very wise to study for your tests.
Great for these types of students
Pretty much everyone. Come one, come all.

The faculty at WKU are highly skilled and most are personable with their students. It's obvious that they want to share their knowledge and they do this on a personal level by encouraging in-class discussions and questions. They let you know on the first day of classes of the easiest way to reach them, should you need anything throughout the semester. Then they make sure to respond to your calls or emails so all of your questions will be answered. Many times they suggest meeting one-on-one during an office appointment, so you can go over all your inquiries.
Am enjoying being here
WKU has a wide range of activities, organizations, and clubs to keep you interested throughout the year. Christian organizations to the performing arts groups to athletic clubs to Greek communities, you will be sure to find something that interests you enough to get involved immediately.
Bang for the buck
Every penny is worth the education here. You can be sure that not only will you graduate feeling more confident about the knowledge you gained, but you will come away with life-altering experiences that will allow you to grow as an individual. WKU strongly supports study abroad and is always encouraging students to choose from hundreds of programs that will allow them to travel the world, while they obtain a few credit hours. There is even thousands of dollars in scholarship money available to help in several of these opportunities.
Tips for prospective students
Visit WKU and look into the college for yourself, and this goes for any university you think you are interested in. Think about what interests you and see how well fits into any school's program. Once you step foot onto the campus, look into different clubs and organizations that pique your curiosity. Through those groups you will meet some of the best friends you will ever have, and this is important when starting this next chapter of your life.
Great for these types of students
American, international, focused, social, adventurous, ambitious....there's really something for everyone on campus.

I love WKU. Western Kentucky University is a magnificent school with faculty members dedicated to making sure that us students succeed. This School is definitely preparing me to excel & achieve all of my dreams.
Tips for prospective students
Yes, this is College but your books come first. Never forget why you went to College. Study to your very best abilities and always remind yourself that though you will endure plenty of stress in school, remember that every difficult obstacle can be conquered.
Academic Rigor
Though you may face an intense course, the faulty members at this school will make sure that you understand the topic and that you accomplish the course with a satisfying score.
Dorm Life
The dorms are so fun & unique. At least once a week, the dorms share different activities with us students in the lobby. The people are always so friendly and social in the dorm that I am in. Also, the dorms are conveniently located right beside DUCK which all the food is located, The Health Services Clinic, Preston, which is out prestigious Gym, if you ever wanna burn a few calories, & Mass Media which is our computer & other activities lab.
Food and Dining
I absolutely love the food here. We have numerous amounts of restaurants just minutes away from the dorms. Such as, Papa Johns, Subway, Pop Eyes Chicken, Chick-Fil- A, Red Zone, etc. WKU also offers Meal Plans & Meal Plan Dollars. For example, I have 12 meal plans that renew themselves weekly & 250 Meal Plan Dollars that I receive at the beginning of every semester. You have the opportunity to choose your own Meal Plan options for food. WKU also offers to convenient store right on campus. These stores contain different frozen and dry foods that one may need to fill up their refrigerator. You can purchase things items with your Meal Plan Dollars. The city that WKU is located in is known as Bowling Green, Ky. Bowling Green is best know for containing 386 restaurants within the city. Applebees, Buffalo Wild Wings, Logan's, Cracker Barrel, etc. You name it, Bowling Green has it.
What to do for fun
The City that WKU is located in is known for being a College Town. Every single weekend there are so many parties to unwind at. Whether you listen to Country Music, Rock & Roll, Hard Metal, Rap or Alternative, The city of Bowling Green has a club specifically dedicated to these Music Genres. This school is definitely known for being a Party School. Bowling Green also offers several malls, movie theaters, bowling alleys, etc.
Bang for the buck
WKU's Tuition and Fees are very normal for a university. Ranging from 12 - 14k this is pretty cheap for such a beautiful school. They definitely do not play with ones money either. The dorms are also pretty cheap ranging from 1,890 - 2,117
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
One tradition that i absolutely love about WKU is how this school & its students, love our mascot. The Hill Topper this big friendly mascot is always loving & social to the max. We all love our hill topper. WKU also contains Frat parties, Step shows & Probates. & many other traditions on campus. One location on campus that everyone goes to hang out is known as PFT. This is a Co-ed Dorm with 24hr visitation. Almost every night, you can find students hanging out in front of PFT. This dorm is open to anyone who wants to live there.
Clubs and Activities
WKU also offers a variety of different clubs and sports for us students. The Chess Club, The Football Team, The Dance Team, The Asian Cultures Club, Fraternities & Sororities, etc. You also have the opportunity to create your own club.
Greek Life
WKU has a very strong Greek Life on campus. Containing a variety of Fraternities & Sororities, WKU has created many different options if one is interested in pledging. Our Greeks are very active on campus. With activities ranging from Cook-Outs, Step Shows, Fashion Shows & who can forget the Greek Parties.
Campus Safety
WKU has campus police that secure the campus 24/7. Whether the police are riding around or even walking, they make sure that we live in a safe environment. There are also emergency police stands located all around campus. All u have to do is push the button that's located on the stand & someone will assist you immediately.

I've attended WKU for three months now. Within these three months I've learned more in my math class and western civ course than I learned out my four years in high school.
Am enjoying being here
Very small town. Would be a lot better with a car.
Tips for prospective students
Great place for your undergraduate degree, but if your not a small town person don't come here.
Great for these types of students
Looking for a smooth transition from high school into college.

Each class was very interesting. Good grades are within easy reach if a student wants to apply himself or herself - at home research of the topics in lectures are a big plus, and daily study is a must. Never wait for last few days to study for any test, particularly a Final Exam.
Am enjoying being here
I take these classes for their enjoyment, self-discipline in study, and the knowledge I may gain.
Bang for the buck
My classes are free - I pay for books only. I'm past 65 years old.
Tips for prospective students
At home research of the topics in lectures are a big plus, and daily study is a must. Never wait for last few days to study for any test, particularly a Final Exam.

Don't cruise through General Ed. classes. The more you know of English, History, Geography, Psychology, Sociology, and other cultures, the more well-rounded you will be in your chosen field of work. The most important class you can take is English: being able to express yourself and write with
confidence and good grammar.

Am learning a lot
Out of my three years here I have grown to learn so many different things in my classes. My professors have always been a big help in making their class easier. And in the different majors here you will experience that as well. From taking a foreign language in Swahili to learning more about Shakespeare in Theatre History, I am always eager to know what I will learn next as my time here progresses.
Am enjoying being here
Being from Louisville it was a tough transition coming here to Bowling Green, but as I got more involved and met new and exciting people I opened up more and expanded my thoughts and values on being here. My experience here has been worthwhile and I wouldn't change it for anything.
Bang for the buck
True enough WKU does not play around when it comes to the different costs, but best believe all the money taken makes a difference in the end to not only you, but to other students looking for future here on the Hill!
Tips for prospective students
The one tip I got when I was coming here was: Whatever choices you make in life will reflect you for the rest of your life. With that I took the initiative to not just be another face in the crowd, but to make my presence known. By getting involved and being around your peers, your time here goes by in an instant. Enjoy your time as a college student, but be smart about your choices. It is a timely process being away from home and getting used to a new communtity. But as that time comes towards your last year and you see the impact you had on others, you will feel great about yourself for making a change while in college.
Great for these types of students
This school's motto is The Spirit Makes the Master. By coming here you will truly feel that. To achieve any goal you have to be on top of your game. If you're adventurous and love to learn new things or tend to stay on the studious side and be involved WKU is the school for you.

Am enjoying being here
If you're looking for a university full of spirit and compassion this is definitely one to consider. WKU is a melting pot overflowing with acceptance and rare talent. The students here are happy. They know they can be their selves without judgement because they know they are safe here. The campus is beautiful and homey, making it hard to get homesick. There are plenty of opportunities to meet new, life-long friends!
Bang for the buck
The teachers are willing to work with you so that you are understanding their lectures and assignments.
Plenty of opportunities to get necessary help with homework, papers, etc.
Campus is gorgeous.
Very unified student body.
Tips for prospective students
Consider your choices carefully.
Consider how homesick you may get.
Look at the extracurricular activities, do any interest you?
Do NOT pick a school simply because your friends choose it.
Times will be hard at times, but things will get better. Just keep your head up.
ALWAYS believe in yourself!
Great for these types of students
Spiritual.
Out-going.
Culturally in-tune.
Fun loving.
Educationally focused.
Determined.

Campus Safety
I LOVE WKU for many reasons, but one of the main reasons is Campus Safety. I feel completely safe here even afyer hours. It is well lit and patrolled all hours. As a general rule, you never go anywhere alone after dark, but if i did, I feel like i would be fine.

WKU is an extremely welcoming school. Students and staff are friendly and convey that they really care about my future. From day one, students will feel like WKU is home.
Tips for prospective students
Go online and learn about WKU, then put your feet on campus to see what its like in person. When you arrive, take advantage of all WKU has to offer - socially and academically. Finally, when you need help, WKU has lots of resources for you. Take advantage of tutoring, guidance, study hours, etc.
Academic Rigor
WKU is challenging but very rewarding!
Dorm Life
The dorms are well maintained. There is a great sense of community and plenty of opportunities to meet new people. If there are any problems, i.e., issues with roommates, etc., WKU resident advisors are there to help.
Food and Dining
There are lots of great choices and you can find something close to you wherever you may be on campus. There are lots of healthy choices too!
What to do for fun
There is always something going on at WKU! From team sports to social gatherings, there is a lot of fun to be had for those in greek life and those who aren't.
Bang for the buck
WKU costs the same as another university I transferred from - but offers so much more academically and socially!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
The red towel is probably the most visible tradition. Also, our mascot, the Hilltopper is very unique!
Great for these types of students
WKU is great for students who are nervous about going away from home for the first time. It's also great for students who just enjoy a friendly, warm, and down to earth atmosphere.
Clubs and Activities
As a mid-term transfer student, I'm still learning about all that WKU has to offer. But I think I am going to be very busy with all that there is to do!
Greek Life
I am looking forward to rushing sororities in the fall. But, not even being part of a greek house so far, I've still been able to enjoy BBQ's and other social events. It has been a lot of fun and everyone has been so friendly and respectful.
Campus Safety
I never fear for my safety on campus. If I have far to go, there is a great bus system. But, even if I 'm walking, there are always people around and friends who will walk with me. WKU seems to take safety very seriously and will be there if I needed anything.
