Categories Comments Campus Safety I never fear for my safety on campus. If I have far to go, there is a great bus system. But, even if I 'm walking, there are always people around and friends who will walk with me. WKU seems to take safety very seriously and will be there if I needed anything.
Greek Life I am looking forward to rushing sororities in the fall. But, not even being part of a greek house so far, I've still been able to enjoy BBQ's and other social events. It has been a lot of fun and everyone has been so friendly and respectful.
Clubs and Activities As a mid-term transfer student, I'm still learning about all that WKU has to offer. But I think I am going to be very busy with all that there is to do!
Great for these types of students WKU is great for students who are nervous about going away from home for the first time. It's also great for students who just enjoy a friendly, warm, and down to earth atmosphere.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The red towel is probably the most visible tradition. Also, our mascot, the Hilltopper is very unique!
Bang for the buck WKU costs the same as another university I transferred from - but offers so much more academically and socially!
What to do for fun There is always something going on at WKU! From team sports to social gatherings, there is a lot of fun to be had for those in greek life and those who aren't.
Food and Dining There are lots of great choices and you can find something close to you wherever you may be on campus. There are lots of healthy choices too!
Dorm Life The dorms are well maintained. There is a great sense of community and plenty of opportunities to meet new people. If there are any problems, i.e., issues with roommates, etc., WKU resident advisors are there to help.
Academic Rigor WKU is challenging but very rewarding!
Tips for prospective students Go online and learn about WKU, then put your feet on campus to see what its like in person. When you arrive, take advantage of all WKU has to offer - socially and academically. Finally, when you need help, WKU has lots of resources for you. Take advantage of tutoring, guidance, study hours, etc.
In three sentences WKU is an extremely welcoming school. Students and staff are friendly and convey that they really care about my future. From day one, students will feel like WKU is home.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Western Kentucky University is an extremely safe campus. Emergency posts are located frequently throughout the campus and can always be easily spotted. All areas are exceptionally well lit; there are no dim areas on campus. Personally speaking, I walked across campus at 4:00 a.m. by myself and did not feel threatened in the slightest. The campus police are helpful and are always quick to respond to calls. The Bowling Green Police Department automatically directs emergency calls made from campus to the WKU Police Department, making for an even quicker response time. Policemen also roam the campus, so, should an emergency occur, students can easily talk to these servicemen and women. In the event that you do not feel safe while walking, an escort service is provided where you as a student may call the WKUPD and an officer will arrive shortly to escort you anywhere. WKU also has a text alert system in place, where students receive text messages about any threats or dangers on campus. The Universityâ??s app also displays these alert messages. Dorms are always locked, staffed, and under video surveillance. WKU is incredibly safe.
Greek Life Greek life is a large part of Western Kentucky University culture. WKU hosts nineteen fraternities and fourteen sororities. These PanHellenic, Non-PanHellenic, and Honors sororities and fraternities are highly involved in several philanthropy projects. Events such as Greek Week, Parentâ??s Weekend, and more always see a large turnout and amount of participation. Many Greek organizations rush in the fall, but some also rush in the spring. Greek organizations offer leadership and service opportunities.
Clubs and Activities WKU offers a wide array of clubs and activities for students to be involved in. Over 350 student organizations, all listed on the Universityâ??s website, are registered at Western. Student representative, service, professional, intramural-recreation, honors, general, departmental, and campus ministry organizations are all available. A Club and Organization fair is hosted at the beginning of each school year for students to become well acquainted with the numerous options. Western also has an active Student Government Association, Campus Activities Board, and Dynamic Leadership Institute that host several social events for students throughout the year. Should you want to start your own club, the Student Government Association provides organizational aid upon approval. Being involved in clubs and activities is a fantastic way to make friends and explore interests.
Great for these types of students Western Kentucky University is fantastic for the student that wants to attend a large university but doesnâ??t want to feel like just a number. At 20,000+ students, Western does a superb job at keeping most class sizes generally small. Athletic events are exciting to attend, and there are always social events where you can meet new people. You may not know the name of each student you pass, but you will definitely grow to see familiar faces. You wonâ??t get lost in the crowd like at other large universities.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus WKU is the home of the Hilltoppers. Youâ??ll more than likely have to climb the large hill on campus to get to a few of your classes. Donâ??t let this scare you! â??The Hillâ?? certainly gets easier and quicker to climb within a few weeks, and itâ??s also a huge help in keeping off the Freshmen Fifteen. The mascot, Big Red, is the happiest red blob youâ??ll ever meet. Big Red has been inducted into the Capital One Mascot Hall of Fame and is loved across the country as proven by his numerous ESPN and commercial appearances. He frequently walks around campus, playfully â??eatingâ?? students with his large mouth or sitting down at their lunch table. Heâ??s a fantastic dancer and has been known for playing pranks on opposing mascots. You never know what Big Red is going to do next. Another WKU staple is the Red Towel. Made famous by basketball coach E.A. Diddle, Red Towels are waved at sporting events, graduations, and more. These accessories are an emblem of the University. Also, be prepared to say â??Go Tops!â?? for just about everything. The team just scored a touchdown? Go Tops! Got a good grade on your history paper? Go Tops! Got the last parking spot in the parking structure? Go Tops! â??Go Tops!â?? is essentially equal to â??Roll Tide!â?? in Alabama. Finally, The Kissing Bridge, located at the top of the Hill, is a well-known location on campus. Legend has it that if you take your date to this bridge and kiss them underneath it, youâ??ll stay together forever. WKU is a neat place filled with tradition.
Bang for the buck Western is reasonably priced for the level of education and accommodations students receive. The campus is beautiful and the dorms are not too run-down. Tuition is not the lowest in the state of Kentucky, but it certainly is not the highest. Rest assured that you will receive a great education at WKU.
What to do for fun Social events are constantly happening at WKU. Whether itâ??s an outdoor movie night in Centennial Mall or an Ultimate Frisbee game on South Lawn, thereâ??s always something to get involved in. These events are posted on social media, on bulletin boards around campus, and on the sidewalk in chalk lettering. WKU has many awesome athletic events where you can show your Hilltopper pride and get lots of free goodies. Intramural sports leagues are also popular. The Campus Activities Board is constantly hosting campus-wide bonfires, game nights, and dances. Several organizations also randomly set up stations on campus where you can pet puppies or color. In Bowling Green, there are many hiking trails, parks, bowling alleys, laser tag arenas, go-kart tracks, and more. There is always something to do.
Food and Dining Western offers a large array of food options. The student center houses a Starbucks, Burrito Bowl, Steak â??n Shake, Chick-fil-A, and Papa Johns. Fresh Food Company, located in the student center, is an all-you-can-eat cafeteria that often has international food options. Redzone, also located in the student center, is a sit-down sports-themed restaurant with a full menu. Redzone is a great place to watch sporting events and hang out with friends; it doesnâ??t feel like youâ??re on campus. The Tower Food Court holds a Juiceblendz, Burger Studio, and a Popeyes. Garrett Food Court has a Grille Works, Home, Papa Johns, Izziâ??s, and Bene Pasta. Two Subways, Java City, Einstein Brotherâ??s Bagel Company, Davinciâ??s, and Passport Bistro are also located on campus. Western also has two convenience-type stores that offer quick lunches and other necessary items. While these stores are great for last minute grabs, they are ridiculously overpriced. WKU offers a meal swipe system where students can purchase certain meals that are pre-paid for. Students also have the option to purchase dining dollars which can be used toward any food purchase. Meal swipe and dining dollar amount options are given. Freshmen are required to use a meal swipe meal plan. However, be aware: unused meal swipes do not roll over to the next week. Although there are a lot of food options on campus, not many of them are healthy. You must consciously choose to eat well.
Dorm Life Dorm life, especially at Western Kentucky University, is an important factor of the college experience. WKU offers four male dorms, six female dorms, and six co-ed dorms. Pearce Ford Tower, the tallest dormitory in the state of Kentucky, has 27 floors and is a female dorm. All dormitories come equipped with mailboxes, high-speed internet, laundry services, mailing services, individual heating and cooling units, floor kitchens, study lounges, and vending machines. No dorms on campus are brand new, but all have been relatively well kept. Many dorms have community showers and bathrooms, so be prepared to bring flip-flops. Each bathroom and shower is cleaned daily, and the facilities arenâ??t too gross. Resident Assistants always plan social events for residents, and many dorms have student councils. Dorms are always locked, staffed, and kept under surveillance video. If you plan to have a random roommate, WKU offers a fantastic roommate matching service. All dormitories are located near parking and food options. Dorm life isnâ??t as terrible as many make it out to be. Itâ??s the best place possible to make friends, get involved with social events, and transition into independence.
Academic Rigor Classes at WKU are challenging, but not overwhelmingly so. Professors push students to consider new perspectives, expand their knowledge, and think creatively and critically. Homework can be excessive at times, but that is to be expected at the collegiate level. Most professors are always willing to help you after class or during their office hours with any questions or concerns you may have. A large number of professors at Western grade your participation, so be ready to answer questions and give input. Should you fall behind in any of your classes, WKU offers free tutoring services. Other services, such as the Writing Center, are offered for student use. These services can review your work and offer suggestions for improvement. Many Study Abroad and Study Away options are hosted by the University and partnering organizations as well. Success in academics is greatly emphasized at Western.
Tips for prospective students On paper, WKU looks like a large university. It is in numerical size, but not in feeling. Western is a community within itself. Most class sizes are relatively small, and you will come to see familiar faces on your walk to the food court. People at Western, in my experience, are polite and welcoming. The campus itself is unique in the fact that it is not integrated with the city. When coming in as a new student, know that what you put into your time at WKU is what youâ??ll get out of it. The University hosts numerous social events, has many clubs and activities to be involved in, and pushes students academically. By immersing yourself in all of the happenings and services WKU offers, youâ??ll have a fantastic time. Just about anyone you speak to about his or her time on the Hill will say he or she loved it. Bowling Green, the city WKU is located in, is a fantastic college town. Just about any restaurant or store youâ??ll ever need is a short drive or bus ride from campus. Bowling Green is also a large immigrant city, so be prepared to come face-to-face with many ethnicities, languages, and backgrounds. If a bigger city is more your style, Bowling Green is located less than 45 minutes from downtown Nashville. Itâ??s a simple commute if you want to get away with friends for a bit.
In three sentences Western Kentucky University, home of Big Red and the Hilltoppers, is a progressive and diverse University that focuses heavily on academics while simultaneously promoting social interaction. Full of tradition, WKU has a true sense of community that is not often found in a school of its size. Western pushes its students to grow academically, professionally, socially, and worldly.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Bowling Green is a relatively slow town. There is a lot of choice in restaurants and some hiking trails and caves nearby, but everything closes early on the weekends. Businesses surrounding the area close around 9 pm even on a Friday night. To have fun in Bowling Green, social skills come into play, as you will have to create your own means of fun.
Food and Dining As someone who likes to eat healthy, I am disappointed with the lack of healthy options. Every restaurant has healthy options that generally just include getting an apple instead of chips; for me, that is not enough. We are the first campus nation-wide to have a Steak 'n Shake located on campus. The only place to get a salad aside from Red Zone (a sit-down sports bar) is Fresh Food Company - the cafeteria. The rest of the places offer fast food and greasy options.
Dorm Life The dorms are rather small and the tenants are not generally the most hygienic. The best advice I can convey to ensure a smooth year in the dorms is simply to communicate with your roommate. It is easy to get lost in aggravation if they are doing things that annoy you, but speaking with them about it is a much better idea than holding in the aggression, I assure you.
Academic Rigor Overall, WKU is a fairly easy place for academics. The classes are not too hard and as long as students are willing to put in the time and work, the courses will run smoothly. What I have mainly learned from taking 18 hours a semester is that college is mainly about time management. I stand firmly behind the theory that anyone can learn anything, if given the right instruction or idea, and college courses are no exception. Western Kentucky University's academia is not top of the line, but WKU also has a high acceptance rate.
Tips for prospective students As a freshman, students are required to purchase a Meal Plan as well as live in the dorms. Do your best to maintain good hygiene, always make it to your 8 am classes, do your homework before you get wrapped up in other things and procrastinate, and keep a positive outlook. The hill will only look steeper the darker your outlook, so try your best to stay positive throughout the year.
In three sentences The campus is the most aesthetically pleasing, though it is also at the cost of a plethora of plant life being removed prematurely. Western Kentucky would receive a 7/10, which is still a rather high score, but there is definitely a lot of room for improvement (mainly monetary budgeting) that could increase the overall health of the school.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is a really safe place, student get along well. In the time that I've been attending, nothing unsafe has happened. The WKU staff and it's students are very respectful and help the university run smoothly.
Bang for the buck For how much WKU has to offer, the tuition is not too high. It is very reasonably priced. If you still have trouble they are always available to help you with financial needs.
What to do for fun There are so many things to do for fun, from playing just games, to actual clubs, or even just lounging with friends.
Food and Dining The campus offers many dining choices, to suit everyone's needs. They even offer a nutritionist if you have special food needs who can direct you to the places on campus who can cater to those needs.
Dorm Life I personally don't live in dorm, but many if my friends do. I constantly hang out with them. From their opinion and my personal observations, you quickly make great and lasting friendships with the people on the same floor as you, or same room, or even just the same buiding.
Academic Rigor Classes are challenging, but the professors are always willing to help you understand, so it makes it easier.
Tips for prospective students Wear comfortable shoes if you plan on walking, if you're not use the it the walk up the hill is a bit tough. Also, just be yourself, everyone is really accepting.
In three sentences Western is one of the best colleges you could attend . I highly recommend attending WKU, if not for the great education, then simply for the bonds you will make. Honestly, everyone here is like family, they are there for you.

Categories Comments Campus Safety A very safe environment and I felt safe being out at 2am on campus.
What to do for fun There are so many things that one can do on campus for fun. Find people with similar interests and join or start a club!
Food and Dining While some food may not be to my liking, I have found a variety of places that serve really good food.
Dorm Life My dorm, the dreaded Pearce Ford Tower, had way too many problems my first year there. It was problem after problem. I would recommend getting out of PFT if you can.
Academic Rigor The classes are pretty rigorous, but as long as you keep up and understand everything being taught, you should be able to succeed.
Tips for prospective students I would recommend that incoming students give themselves 10 to 20 minutes to walk up the hill, depending on the location of your dorm. Get to class 10 minutes early to find a front row seat. I would also recommend studying hard for exams, as they are not that easy. Ask teachers for help and they will help you. Find people to study with, and go to the tutor center if you need additional help.
In three sentences Western Kentucky is a definite 10/10 in terms of academics and environment. The teachers are absolutely fabulous and they are very understanding with freshmen needing help adjusting to the college life. The environment is absolutely gorgeous and very welcoming.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are stands every few hundred feet to press a button to call for an officers help, all you have to do it push a button. Also, campus is well let at night and there are no dark areas. They also take any treats seriously and you will receive a text message informing you of any dangerous activity near or on campus to keep you safe and informed. About 2 miles from campus is a police and fire station and they are always patrolling campus to make sure things are okay.
Greek Life Greek life is pretty big at Western! This is probably the best way to keep busy if you are looking to be busy. They are always doing great things for their philanthropy and for the school. Also, they put on a lot of shows that are open to all to see.
Clubs and Activities If you are involved its a great way to meet people! Western is big on being involved and the clubs and activities are eager to meet you and welcome you into their group.
Bang for the buck If there were more food options and prices for food in the pit stop stores were cheaper then it would be great! Professors are usually pretty passionate about teaching so you will get a lot of knowledge for your money.
What to do for fun For fun I go on walks or runs around campus. We also go to a local doughnut shop but the name of GADS (Great American Doughnut Shop). They are a 24/7 small shop that sells really cheap, but delicious doughnuts close to campus.
Food and Dining The food here is great! I enjoy all of the food on campus, but the downfall is there are not enough choices. You may look at the school and see a lot of food options, but when that's what you are eating every day you get in a routine of trying to not eat the same meal in one day. If there were more options with better food hours than it would be perfect. Food quality, all of it is fantastic! No complaints for that!
Dorm Life The dorms are great for your first two years and they are a great experience, but after two years you will be ready to move into a hour or an apartment. Things can get tight in those small rooms, but you have so much freedom, you don't even notice it. There is always something entertaining going on at the dorms that people are talking about, so you have that to look forward to.
Academic Rigor Classes range in difficulty here. As you get more in depth into your major, the classes get more difficult, but also more interesting. You will find you need to plan for a get amount of studying for one class, but it will be so worth it for the paper at the end. Study your booty off and you will do great!
Tips for prospective students Make time to study!!! Its okay to tell your friends every now and then that you have to stay in and study, chances are they do too. You are here for your education overall, but dont overwhelm yourslf too much. Give yourself days to go out and just experience college life. It's a time in your life that you will never get back and you need to get out and experience it. Also, get involved!! This is major on Westerns campus, there is something for everyone. By getting involved you not only are bettering yourself, but also your community, so technically its a win, win situation. Do your best in class and outside class, but give yourself a break every once in a while and you will be successful on the hill.
In three sentences If you want to feel like more than just a number then we have the professors and classes for you. Western Kentucky University is a very fun and exciting place where you will feel welcomed and connected with everyone. I couldn't think of a better school to call my home than the school here on the hill.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Bowling Green is home to a couple attractions. GADS is a 24/7 donut shop. Greek life is very prevalent on campus. Lastly BG hosts the Hotrods a minor league baseball team.
Tips for prospective students Visit a professor/department of your intended major. WKU is so large that it's easy to get caught up in it all and miss the details.

Categories Comments Greek Life Greek life is very popular here! I am involved in Greek life and it is such a good way to get connected on campus.
Clubs and Activities Greek life is very popular at Western, and there are many volunteer and club activities you can get involved in.
Great for these types of students Any type of student would fit in at WKU.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The kissing bridge is an awesome spot to take a first date! Rumor has it that if you kiss your date for the first time under the bridge, you're destined to marry that person!
Bang for the buck WKU is affordable, and offers a wide variety of majors and plenty of opportunities. However, the dorms aren't the cleanest and could use some updating, as could the food.
What to do for fun There are plenty of things to do for fun in Bowling Green! You can go to the mall, go bowling, take a painting class, try hot yoga, etc. Campus Activities Board is always offering fun events on campus too, in case you don't feel like taking the shuttle or driving.
Food and Dining The food choices are good, but get tiring. There are not enough healthy food options available for a meal swipe, or at easy access. Subway's lines are always very long, and the healthier restaurants are at the top of the hill or in Fresh...Fresh is decent, depending on the day you go.
Dorm Life If you have a community bathroom...bless your soul. Sharing a shower with people who have no respect for others is horrible. Hair on the shower walls and in the drain, people not knowing how to flush or use the trash can, etc. However, this is probably true of most university community bathrooms.
Academic Rigor The class rigor depends mainly on the teacher and the subject. Higher level classes are obviously more difficult because they are for students that are majoring in that area. Use ratemyprofessor.com and it will give you a good idea on the class difficulty level.
Tips for prospective students If you know you will be able to make it to class on time, schedule your classes for earlier in the morning. It may suck to be in class at 9 am, but it sucks even more to still be in class at 5 pm!

Categories Comments What to do for fun PLENTY of things to do.
Food and Dining There are several options but they don't give you much food.
Dorm Life The dorms are small and the beds are awful.
Academic Rigor It's challenging, I guess. I can not go to class and still make an A or B so I mean I guess it's kind of easy.
Tips for prospective students DO NOT skip class. That goes for any college. And make sure you have your financial information filled out because the financial aid office won't do much for you.
In three sentences Overall it's a pretty good school. I don't have any ridiculous complaints.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Always see campus police at least once when I'm out. Theres safety buttons you can push if you get scared while walking from lecture back to your dorm.
Greek Life Don't have much experience with the Greek life, other than I know they are very involved and can help you get acquainted to campus life.
Bang for the buck WKU has a pretty good tuition rate compared to most schools. Can get a degree without going into too much debt.
What to do for fun Intramural sports, Clubs, and Greek life. Could go to the gym or a sporting event. Art shows or different musicals.
Food and Dining Lots of options, however the wait can be long. The food is usually pretty good, haven't ever had anything make me sick.
Dorm Life Dorm life can be great with the right roomie! Try and find a roommate and get to know them before you actually move into your dorm. Bathrooms are clean most of the time. Some bug issues.
Academic Rigor WKU has been challenging, but college is going to be challenging right after high school no matter where you go. It's just a different ball game than high school. Professors are friendly and willing to work with you if you put the effort in.
Tips for prospective students If and when you decide to come to WKU don't worry about buying everything that was ever made for a dorm. Buy essentials, but reassess the situation when you get to your dorm some things you will find you need and some you won't. Always look up professors before you sign up for their class. Always go and find where your classes are at before the first day of class.
In three sentences WKU has a lot to offer and not just academically. WKU offers lots of extracurricular activities such as: greek life, clubs, activities, and sports. It's a beautiful campus equipped with fine educators and facilities.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are many thing to do on campus like exercising, swimming, basketball, hang out with people, football, and so much more. A person would never get bored on campus.
Food and Dining I ate at the Chick-Fil-A on WKU's campus, and it was delicious.
Dorm Life I loved WKU's dorms. They're a bit small, but what could I expect? It's a huge school. Freshmen dorms are smaller, and people have a roommate. There are two closets and two beds. The only I don't really like very much, being a girl, is that the whole floor in a dormitory for Freshmen, they have to share one bathroom. Other than that, I'm very excited to live there and to figure out who my roommate will be.
Academic Rigor I have a 3.97 GPA and I hope to become an honors student on WKU's campus. I want to pursue a degree in Meteorology. I heard the Meteorology program is great and I'm very excited to learn more about it.
Tips for prospective students I definitely recommend WKU for upcoming college students. WKU has a wide variety of degrees, the campus is beautiful, there are many people to talk to, there are many things to do on campus, and it's very affordable.
In three sentences I think WKU is a wonderful college. It has what degree I need, the campus is beautiful, it is affordable, and I can really see myself living and studying their for the next four years. I'm excited to attend WKU.

Categories Comments Greek Life There are quite a few frats/sororities, but I don't care about rushing so I couldn't tell you anything about them.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Red Towel: At every football and basketball game when a goal is scored we wave a red handtowel 'round and 'round. We keep red towels in our rooms, we have them in the book store, and when someone affiliated with the university travels on somewhere else, whether as current representative or alumni, they take a towel and take a photograph with it to mark the reach of WKU, all over the world. Coach E.A Diddle had the first red towel; he wiped sweat and blood with it, bit it, threw it, waved it. It became an emblem iconic to the legacy of both his legendary career and the future of Western Kentucky as a whole.
What to do for fun The Preston Center has a great workout facility, with workout and yoga classes free for students, as well as access to a swimming pool, basketball courts, running tracks, and assorted intramural sports teams. There are innumerable nooks amd quiet spots for reading or relaxing around campus, and the library is extensive.
Dorm Life This doesn't apply to me currently as I commute from my parent's home, so it's based solely on experience from others that I know of. It also depends on which dorm you're in.
Academic Rigor This depends on whether or not you are enrolled in the Honors College; for me I am so regular classes don't present as much of a challenge to me as do Honors courses.
Tips for prospective students -Download the iWKU app, it's so helpful in navigating campus, especially if you plan on using the transit system! -Be open-minded; there are a lot of international students and that can be intimidating or jst odd at first, but be friendly and talk to them! They're usually very sweet and love to learn from you as much as you from them. -Learn good study habits/use the library! USE IT! -If class is boring and doesn't challenge you go anyways. Give your GPA the best boost you can starting off and it will help you later on as classes get harder.
In three sentences WKU is a memorable university experience on a campus that is filled to the brim with spirit and fervor. The campus itself is beautiful and secluded yet readily accessible to the rest of Bowling Green, and the professors exceed adequate expectations for instruction in their respective fields. The opportunities to apply yourself abroad, both during study and on faculty-led excursions, especially deem WKU an educational asset to anyone intending to take their post-college career to international heights.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Play sports on South Lawn. Nicely Center is open to students. Basketball Courts, Pool, and Workout Stations are scattered throughout the building.
Food and Dining Newly built facility. Fresh Foods Company, Starbucks, Chich-fil-A and Subway are all a part of the building. Everything is cheap and there is always a place to sit.
Dorm Life Out of all the people I have met 8 out of 10 suggest that you get a dorm because they are great. Greek life can offer you small scholarships to help pay if you can't. Overall I think it would behoove you to be in a dorm.
Academic Rigor Most students I have met say that the work is not an overload. Students say the professors also will speak with you about opprotunities to get grades up. Overall work is not a big thing there.
Tips for prospective students Definitely think you should visit the campus. Students will show you that you want to attend right then. DUC is awesome there.
In three sentences Beautiful Campus. Small university with a great atmosphere. Like a family.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are blue call buttons all over campus as well as campus police. If you feel like you need to be escorted back to your dorm at night, there is a number you can call and a police officer will come walk with you. I've never felt unsafe here.
Greek Life I didn't go Greek but a lot of people did and I've heard it's awesome!
Clubs and Activities There are lots of opportunities to get involved with things like campus ministries, clubs, and intramural sports. Just pay attention during the first couple weeks of classes!
Great for these types of students Anyone!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Just the hill, the reason we're called the hilltoppers is that the college sits on a super steep, super long hill.
Bang for the buck College is bound to be expensive these days, but Western has lots of great scholarship opportunities available. It's truly a great school with great professors and great community.
What to do for fun Go to GAD's doughnuts, its small, local, and super fun. Go to downtown Bowling Green, it's a pretty sweet little town. Get involved with clubs and intramural sports!
Food and Dining The food options are okay. There is a school cafeteria type thing called Fresh, which is less than impressive. However, there are also better alternatives like Subway, Chik-fil-a, Panda Express, and a few others that are on campus and you can use meal plans to eat at those places as well!
Dorm Life I love living in the dorms! I currently live in Minton Hall which is the honors dorm. There is such a great sense of community. (and the showers aren't all that bad either!)
Academic Rigor As of right now, I'm in all general education courses, so it feels like all of my classes are pretty easy. However, I will be entering the Nursing major which I've heard is pretty rigorous here, we'll see!
Tips for prospective students Be careful when you start to schedule classes, going up and down the hill is definitely a work out! But make sure to at least pay a visit here, it's really an incredible campus.
In three sentences Western is awesome! It's a beautiful campus with a lot of cool opportunities to get involved. Classes are mostly smaller (I have around 30 in all of mine) which makes it even better!

Categories Comments What to do for fun This may seem sort of specific, but Western has an excellent drama program that frequently puts on performances. I'd recommend going to see those. On a more broad note, there are tons of intramural sports to get involved in (I believe there's a list on Western's website). If sports aren't your thing, the list of other clubs, activities or organizations goes on and on. From film club, to CREW (christian outreach program), to chess club, there is literally something for everybody!
Food and Dining The food is exceptional. I wouldn't call it five-star dining, but there's enough variety at Western's cafeteria to keep you coming back every day. If you still get bored there's always Topper Cafe, which has a Subway, Starbucks, Chick-fil-a, and several other nice places, not to mention the plethora of restaurants in Bowling Green. To put it simply, you really can't run out of places to eat.
Dorm Life Dorm life is average for those seeking regular dorms. I'd say the only high point here for freshmen is Minton Hall (the honors dorm strictly for freshmen), but even then it's not so hot compared to some of the other honors dorms I've seen on other campuses. You have to use a community bathroom, but it gets better with time. As you progress each year at Western, better and better dorms become available to you, so I wouldn't worry too much about this one.
Academic Rigor Western has plenty of opportunity for people looking to push their academic horizons. I myself am in the honors college, in which you're required to take at least 3 credit hours of honors classes each semester. For those not in the honors college, there are still loads of classes to take for people looking to max out on their credit hours every semester. You really can't run out of stuff to take! There will always be different classes at Western to solidify your education yet challenge your thinking at the same time.
Tips for prospective students Get involved! After attending the ATP Freshmen Orientation there in late March, I realized there are so many activities, especially in the realm of intermural sports. Even if you're not on a varsity team of some kind, you can still get involved in the sport or program you love by starting a club or joining one that already exists.
In three sentences In three sentences, Western is just a well-rounded college. It has something for everyone, and that's no understatement! I would highly recommend this college for someone who is going in undecided.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Great police on campus as well as stations for you to run to in case of emergency. They have lights and buttons to push if you need them. The campus is well lit for travels at night. Parking is a little sketchy at times, but not really bad. We have transit system on campus that is excellent!
Greek Life Not involved in them but they are very active on campus!
Clubs and Activities The sports programs are on the rise as well as the Fine Arts programs. Each one is top notch with some excellent students in them.
Great for these types of students Everyone is going to find something they enjoy at Western Kentucky. Lots of organizations to get involved in.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Big Red is our mascot and to some he looks like a Big Red Blob, but he is much more than that. He represents the Western heritage. A lot of the buildings are original and hold a lot of history. There is a Western History class offered on campus.
Bang for the buck For the money, this school is beyond great. The tuition is some of the cheapest in the state for a 4 year University and it is growing by leaps and bounds every single year.
What to do for fun Preston Center has canoes and kayaks to rent as well as a fully accessible pool and gym. Bowling Green is an excellent town and there is plenty to do. Bowling to Mini-Golf, BG has it.
Food and Dining Western offers some great places to eat on campus and they are all clean and priced very well. Fresh Foods in the Downing Student Union is excellent. Also, eateries are dispersed all over campus for ease of access.
Dorm Life I have never lived on campus, but I strongly suggest that you do. The experience is something I regret not getting.
Academic Rigor Most of the professors are pretty established in teaching at the University level. They know what they want from their students, and they expect the best. They are all willing to help wherever they can.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared to work. This is college so expect papers, tests, and quizzes. Overall this is an excellent school with a great history behind it. GET INVOLVED!
In three sentences Western Kentucky University is an excellent University. It is centered around helping each student achieve his/her best. The different Schools within this University are all very well established and well known.

Categories Comments Campus Safety WKU has awesome security on campus. I have been on many other campus's and I think that Western has them beat. There are many emergency buttons throughout campus, as well as our campus police department. At night if you do not want to walk alone you can call WKUPD and they will come to you and walk you to wherever you need to go. 5 stars!
Greek Life I am a member of Omega Phi Alpha, the service sorority here on campus. We do not have a house, which makes our dues rather low and affordable. If you are thinking about going greek do it! It is an amazing feeling to be apart of something much bigger than yourself.
Clubs and Activities Get involved! I am a firm believer in that college is what you make of it. The more that you get involved the more friends that you will make. I am involved in a sorority and Habitat For Humanity. There are too many organizations and clubs to get involved in on campus for one to be bored!
Great for these types of students Anyone with an open mind! Come one, come all.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The hill! If you have ever been on campus you know what I am talking about. Needless to say you get a great workout going to class.
Bang for the buck I am from Indiana, and I always wanted to go out-of-state. Finding a place that was in my price range and out-of-state was difficult. Since I live in the county that the city of Indianapolis is located in I ended up getting half off of out-of-state tuition. It ended up being affordable! Just because you're out of state do not give up because something looks to be expensive on the outside. Do your research!
What to do for fun Although Bowling Green is a small town you can make your own fun! There is always something to do, and if there isn't Nashville is only an hour away!
Food and Dining College food is college food.
Dorm Life I live in Pearce Ford Tower, or better known as, PFT. I was one of the lucky ones who ended up with the 3rd floor. I had a great floor, an awesome roommate, and an even better RA. Dorm life is great because you never have to be alone or bored, there is always someone around! However, my roommate and I made the mistake our first semester of allowing everyone to come in and out of our room whenever they pleased. I didn't have a problem with it until finals rolled around. It's almost like no one got it. Second semester has been better. Always remember to have the balance between school and social life!
Academic Rigor Go to class and you will be fine! Seriously though, I know that everyone says it but go to class. Most of the time if you don't go to class your grades will reflect.
Tips for prospective students If you are an incoming freshman student, get involved! College is what you make it. Therefore, do not be scared to join clubs, go to games, rush a fraternity or sorority, and to make friends! Also, go to class and do your homework. First and foremost you are in college to get an education.
In three sentences Western Kentucky University has been one of the most amazing experiences. If you are looking for a college experience that a big school has to offer but with small size classrooms than this is the school for you!

Categories Comments Campus Safety There us poles around that have a police button on there for emergency's. Plus you can call for police to escort you on campus if you don't feel safe walking around alone
Clubs and Activities There are plenty of activities and clubs to join around campus. From Greek life to sports. there are a variety of plenty of things for people to join, with a range of options.
What to do for fun There are many places to go around campus that offer fun things to do. They hold concerts and athletic events weekly usually. Even off campus there is a lot to do. They have concerts, movies, the mall, parks, and other various places to go.
Food and Dining There are many selections on campus to eat at, all great food. They are spread out around campus, so you shouldn't have to go to far for something you want. Plus its in a community where there are many restaurants around.
Dorm Life Never personally lived in a dorm, live close enough to drive to campus. I would have rather stayed in a dorm my freshman year and had the true college experience.
Academic Rigor The school academically is good, it is a high ranked college. You have to get used to university life before you decide you don't want to do it and give up.
Tips for prospective students If there is a community college in your area, do your general education there but make sure the credits can transfer, and if possible to do dual credits in high school.
In three sentences It is a great school if you are serious about making something out of your life. The environment is good for students to be around. Cant judge it on the negative things that has happened, but by all the good things that has come out of it.

Dorm Life I did not spend much time in the dorms.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are numerous things to do after class. ranging from staying in shape with friends, or relaxing around having a good time, to having a night out on the town. It all depends on the things you like and want to try out.
Food and Dining All the food is amazing. If you eat at DUC you have something new every day an you are able to try foods from different cultures.
Dorm Life The Dorms are fun an never boring. Only downfall in the dorms are the random fire alarms and they tend to always go off once you begin to fall asleep. Other than that the dorms are bigger an furnished better than i expected.
Academic Rigor The class can be very challenging. It all depends on the professor that you receive. No Matter the professor that you receive they are all knowledgeable about there subject and will help when asked to.
Tips for prospective students Save up your money for your books. You the on campus resources often ( tutors, finacial aid, etc.) they are very helpful. #xplore the campus you all meet new people and find new things around campus.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I love that our campus have emergency buttons in ever parking lot. I believe that the precautions put in place will prevent a lot of bad occurrences.
Clubs and Activities There are a lot of options for those who want to join clubs. Greek life is booming and there are clubs for every major and interest. I'm in a club for my major! The activities around campus are great. The campus activities board keeps the activities flowing to lighten up the campus.
What to do for fun I usually just hang out with my friends. We always go to dinner together or gather to play board games or watch movies.
Food and Dining I have a lot of stomach problems so the food and dining on campus seemed limited. I feel that there should be a few more healthy options in the mix.
Dorm Life I lived in the same dorm for my first two years of college. The dorms are tolerable, but it always difficult to live with new people. However, I met a lot of good friends by simply saying hello to my neighbors.
Academic Rigor When I first entered my general education classes, I was surprised that the courses weren't as difficult as I had expected. As you progress farther along in your major, the information becomes more specific, challenging, and interesting. All the hard work that you put into your major is well worth the time and effort.
Tips for prospective students Don't wait until the last minute to study. Always read over your notes after class as well as study throughout the semester. I learned the hard way that over-studying and all-nighters are not the way to go. they only cause more headaches and anxiety.
In three sentences Western Kentucky has been like a second home to me. The peers and mentors I have met here have been outstanding. Now that I'm in my major, I feel like I'm in a community.

Dorm Life It's nice to have people near by, but community bathrooms- I am not a fan.
Academic Rigor I'm definitely challenged, but not extremely. I can work through everything I am given. Teachers also offer many resources to help their students.
Tips for prospective students Visit a college to see if it feels right. You should be comfortable and feel at home on your campus.
In three sentences A wonderful school with a beautiful campus. Big enough to always have something to do, but small enough you can almost always run into someone you know. The campus is also lively, so if you're bored, you're the one not putting yourself out there.

What to do for fun Since I live an hour away and I commute, I am not sure what everyone does for fun at WKU.
Food and Dining I love all of the dining options on and off of campus. There is every kind of food you would want on campus.
Dorm Life I have not had the luxury of being able to live on campus, though I do wish I could afford it. I have heard many people telling me they love the dorm life though, so I assume it's pretty nice.
Academic Rigor So far I have only taken 4 classes at WKU, but it is easy to see that laziness and excuses are unacceptable in any course.
Tips for prospective students 1. focus 2. STUDY 3. organize!!!
In three sentences Western Kentucky University shows great diversity in ways I was never exposed to while going to a small town high school. The school also challenges me countless distractions from the teachers with having over one hundred students in only one class room, which makes it incredibly hard to focus and do well in the class. Categories Comments Food and Dining The dining options aren't too great depending on where you live on campus. If you want a variety you can always go off campus, Bowling Green has MANY choices for you to choose from. It shouldn't be an issue.
Dorm Life The dorm life is average and each dorm has events in which you can participate and enjoy with other people similar to you.
Academic Rigor The science classes and labs here are quite difficult and some teachers don't give out many grades or points so studying is required for many classes. Introductory classes are easy if you just attend the classes and participate. You will do much better if you show up and not skip.
Tips for prospective students I would attend Masterplan, which shows you around the University and allows you to get a feel of what college is before you start classes. If you have questions about your major or classes to take, the advisers might not be the best. The best bet would be to ask someone who is currently in the major or has had it before.

What to do for fun The night life is okay, there are a few places in town to go clubbing. you can find a place that fits your style, hippy got their spot, country music lovers got their spot, hip hop and rap club bangers have their spot, the all around music lovers got their spot too..there is something for everyone. There are bowling spots, billard spots, skate parks, etc ... go check it out for yourself...you'll fall in love with the place. And the best of all - it is a very safe place.
Food and Dining Well, it's a college town, so pretty much all the food in town is like college food.. wings, burgers, etc. surely they have great family restaurants like Red Lobster, Olive Gardens, Outback Stake House, and many more.
Dorm Life I couldn't tell you about dorm life because I have never lived in the dorms, but a lot of students that I meet sure does enjoy it.
Academic Rigor The college itself has a great atmosphere for you to stay focus and study, and has entertainment for you to stay active whenever you feel like it.
Tips for prospective students Don't take my word for it, go check it out for yourself and see, because once you go there, you will fall in love with the place and the people.
In three sentences The spirit truly makes a master. This is a great place to study, the environment is safe and friendly, and the atmosphere feels great because everyone in town caters to the college students. Categories Comments Campus Safety My sophomore year, there were a few things that went south. The university did all that it could to make students feel more safe and comfortable going to and from class.
Greek Life There is a lot of greek life here on campus. I chose not to partake due to financial reasons, but everyone that I know that has been able to do it really enjoys it.
Clubs and Activities There are always at least a few activities to choose from on a daily basis that either a club or the university is putting on. It creates a way to meet new students that you regularly wouldn't talk with and make new friends.
Great for these types of students Students that really want to be in a sorority or fraternity. International students. Students that want to study abroad. Students that want a lot out of their on-campus living experience.
Bang for the buck I have enjoyed my experience here at WKU so far. I was lucky enough to work out a year abroad through the study abroad office. The only negatives would be the personnel that don't do their jobs correctly. I had a lot of headaches trying to arrange my study abroad, as well as getting my credits approved when I returned because my transcript sat in a pile of mail for 3 months. When a teacher is horrible here, they are REALLY horrible. I have had a few that I really wish I could have gotten a refund for. I pay to go to college to learn, not to pay rent on my seat in the classroom.
What to do for fun Tailgating is a big thing here on campus during football season. There are always various clubs and organizations putting on events that are free and that you don't have to be a member of to join the fun. We have a lot of greek organizations, clubs, sports and intramural leagues here on campus.
Food and Dining There is are a lot of fast food options including Chick-Fil-A, Panda Express, Subway and Starbucks. We also have a couple food courts with various fresh options as well as a new frozen yogurt parlor.
Dorm Life I didn't choose to stay in the dorms. However, my sister did and she seems to be quite happy and having a good time.
Academic Rigor Some of the professors here really just don't care about their jobs or your retention. Other teachers are really good and challenging.
Tips for prospective students Definitely, take advantage of the school's push on study abroad. If you are going to study abroad, try to plan in advance in order to avoid headaches.
In three sentences Western is a fun university with a homey feel. There is a lot of emphasis on creating a multinational atmosphere. There is a club or organizational that anyone can enjoy.

Categories Comments Campus Safety No campus is ever going to be perfectly safe, but Western tries very hard to promote safety and awareness of dangers on campus. They are constantly putting up new lights in dark areas, there are emergency buttons all over campus, and there is a program called the escort service, where you can call the police department and they will have a responsible male student or campus police officer escort you to wherever you are going.
Clubs and Activities There are tons of ways to get involved on campus, and the University encourages students to create new organizations. If you can't find something you enjoy, find two other people who enjoy what you do, and create a new club!
Great for these types of students Any type of student can fit in at WKU. Geeks, Greeks, Athletes, Artists, Musicians, Writers, Leaders, International Students, Introverts, Extroverts, and even Freshmen! (No one knows, or judges)
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Big Red - A lovable blob of red. He is one of our mascots, and EVERYONE loves him. He is just so cute! And that is how he got into the Mascot Hall of Fame! White Squirrel - An unofficial mascot on campus, we have quite a few of them! Western has a lot of green space on campus to relax in, so it isn't surprising to see lots of squirrels running around. Red Towel - A tradition begun by Cherry, our first president, the red towel is a favorite symbol of WKU, and you will see it everywhere, including vacation pictures, at every sporting event, and hanging in many student dorm rooms.
What to do for fun Anything and everything. There is always something going on, whether the school has scheduled a performance, you have a club or Greek meeting going on, or a random Frisbee game, you never have to go very far to have fun here!
Food and Dining The food here is good. We have lots of selection and our meal plans cover a lot of different things. However, a lot of the restaurants don't stay open very late, so bring snacks!
Dorm Life Key - Good roommate. Mine was through random assignment, and it worked out great for us. I live in a coed dorm, and it is very nice, since the hours are less restrictive when you're having friends over.
Academic Rigor The classes are challenging, but never overwhelming. I am in both Honors classes and regular classes, and both are totally achievable if you work.
Tips for prospective students Think about where you really want to be. Western is like a huge family, and bad attitudes never get very far. There is a lot of work, but there is also a lot of time to have fun with your friends, and there is always something going on on campus!
In three sentences Everyone is involved. The campus is beautiful. The Honors College makes everything even better.

Bang for the buck It all depends on what you put into it. If you study a lot and participate in activities, it is worth it. But if you just want to party, I don't know what to tell you.
What to do for fun Study.
Food and Dining Most food is fried. The only places to get something somewhat healthy is Subway or the cafeteria.
Dorm Life Honors dorms are fantastic.
Academic Rigor Some people just barely care about classes, but you can really push yourself depending on your major.
Tips for prospective students It has a 98% acceptance rating...

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is a priority.....there are many phones around campus for emergencies. WKU has their own police officers that are on location. I have never had any problems.
Clubs and Activities There are many club and activities around campus. You look for those in campus publications, and by other students. They also keep you updates by email with all that's going on throughout campus.
What to do for fun There are many local activities, which also may offer student discounts. I suggest taking a look around the city....make yourself familiar with the local businesses and attractions. There are many events that come to BG yearly, and are always fun to check out......watch the local paper, and other publications.
Food and Dining There are many options on campus, and off campus which are close. Many off campus locations offer student discounts, and may even take the meal card. The town has lots of different varieties of food choices also.......greek, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, etc.
Dorm Life I never stayed at the dorms, but have heard good things from other students.
Academic Rigor They have excellent opportunities in many areas. Ask questions and let the advisors help you make the right choices depending on your interests. There are a variety of classes to fit your preferences.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you take a tour of the campus....it's pretty big, and there's lots to see. There may be guided tours thru campus, or just look around at your own pace. It will help when looking for your classes.
In three sentences WKU is a great school, offering a wide range of field of possible areas of studies. The staff is great in helping to get you started and on the right path. The campus is in the center of town and has access to local areas attractions.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus P.D. is always there for the students and staff. There are big blue emergency buttons all over campus for you to push if you do not feel safe in a given situation, and their number is given out multiple times throughout the year to make sure students know how to get hold of them in case of an emergency. I've always felt safe on campus knowing Campus P.D. was there if I needed them.
What to do for fun There is plenty of fun stuff to do on WKU's campus. There is a plethora of intramural teams to join, along with school teams that allow walk-ons. If sports aren't you thing, sitting outside a dorm or a class building and people-watching is always fun. If you play a musical instrument/sing, people are always willing to get together to do something for fun for bystanders on campus. Going for a walk around campus can be rewarding, and if all else fails, catching lunch with friends between classes can be some of the most fun you have in college. You'll never forget some of the things you talk about.
Food and Dining The food here is pretty high in fat in most places, but it is really good. Subway is great, and there are some new salad and smoothie bars being built, so that will help a lot on the fat issue, but as of now, the food isn't too bad!
Dorm Life Dorm life can be great, but it can also be a tough break; it depends on how you make it. If you don't want to be in the dorms in the first place, you're not going to have any fun and you're going to poke out all the negatives about dorm life. It can be fulfilling and rewarding; it makes it easier to make friends on campus.
Academic Rigor Your teachers will push you to do your best because they know you can do it. With that being said, they expect you to do the work on time.
Tips for prospective students My tip to you would be to get a parking pass and take advantage of it; if you have a good parking spot in the fall semester, do not move until you have to. In the spring semester, it's not so bad. Take advantage of the Career Services Center, they provide tutoring, and it really helps.
In three sentences Western Kentucky University is a well-rounded school that drives it's students to do their very best in their studies in hopes to help them get a career in the field they want. Staff is always on hand to help anyone in need, whether it be the financial aid office, personnel (such as professors or office assistants), or the student disabilities office. No one is left behind and everyone gets the help they need.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Western is a relatively large college and yet continues to grow. There are numerous clubs and organizations that students can get involved with as well as several different sororities and fraternities. WKU also offers opportunities for students to engage in intramural sports.
Food and Dining WKU's campus offers a variety of great dining options. There are also many places around the campus that are within a short distance that are easily accessible to students.
Dorm Life I do not live in a dorm; however, I have heard that they are excellent.
Academic Rigor Western provides very challenging courses. They are manageable, but only to those who are willing to try their very best.
Tips for prospective students One piece of advice for prospective students is to be cautious if you plan on attending college. It will be easy to get distracted and forget the real reason as to why you are there. Always remember that getting an education is the most important thing.
In three sentences Over all I have been very pleased with WKU! It is a beautiful campus and the instructors are among the best of the best. I would give Western a five star rating.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are blue light posts where one can press a button to alert the police, 24/7 Campus Security, and the Campus is located near local police. The campus is also well lit in most areas at night.
Greek Life Not personally involved, but I have heard stories from friends who have loved their Greek experience.
Clubs and Activities I personally was involved in a Youth Ministry that kept me on track spiritually while exploring a new way of life.
Great for these types of students Artists, Filmmakers, Teachers, Nurses, and all sorts of Literary Fields.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is your first kiss under the bridge, the haunted stories of Van Meter Hall, and the half arena in front of the Fine Arts Building that hosts traditions passed down for years.
Bang for the buck The main complaint I have is with the parking. WKU is located in an awesome town that offers a variety of places to play, eat, and shop.
What to do for fun There is Greek life, Student Ministries, Inter-mural Sports, Theatre, Music, and Clubs that will fit any interest.
Food and Dining There are dining halls on main campus but not on South Campus. The Dining Hall is currently under construction.

In three sentences I like it so far. It's a great atmosphere haven't had any terrible professors yet. It's the 3rd biggest school in Kentucky with about 20k students, so it's perfect for people that want a big college experience but don't want to go to a 100k+ student school. Categories Comments Campus Safety There are buttons all around campus that you can push for help in emergencies but I heard they don't work. Also, the police escort system is not very good. Although, I never feel unsafe walking around campus by myself at night.
Greek Life I am in Alpha Omicron Pi and I love the Greek life. There is not a lot of sororities and fraternities so the whole Greek community is very tight-knit. For example, we had a girl from my sorority get in a car wreck that put her in a come last year and the whole Greek community got together to have a fundraiser to help her parents pay for medical bills and when she died we there was a lantern ceremony that all the Greek community went to.
Clubs and Activities I want to get involve with some clubs and activities on campus but I can't find any that are worthwhile.

Categories Comments Campus Safety WKU always feels safe and has campus security ready to respond any time.
Greek Life All Greek houses are located off campus, but WKU maintains a large and active greek scene.
Clubs and Activities No matter who you are, WKU has a club for you. From club sports like rugby, to an award winning nationally ranked speech and debate team, WKU will have something for you. The university takes pride in diversity and offer tremendous incentive to start new clubs and to keep the campus as lively and opportune as possible.
Great for these types of students This is the perfect university for students who want the perfect balance of country and city life. It's a big university, but everyone is part of the WKU family.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Big Red- The lovable mascot of WKU has been described as a big red dot. He was a student designed mascot though, and all WKU students love him. If you become a Topper, you have to love Big Red. The Red Towel- A tradition started by Coach Diddle. Legend has in Basketball players kept stealing towels from the gym so Coach Diddle had all the basketball towels dyed red so he could tell which players were stealing them. Diddle also kept a towel by his side during games, and when he got excited, he would began swinging the towel and shouting. Students began bringing their own red towels to games to spin when they got excited. Today, the red towel is a staple of WKU. The Hilltoppers- WKU is located on top of a hill. It's really not hard to figure out why our mascot is The Hilltopper. You can shorten this to Go Tops! or refer to females as The Lady Toppers.
Bang for the buck For all the financial aid and scholarship opportunity Western gives, students end up paying relatively little money and getting world class opportunities. The university basically pays students to study abroad and to get involved. What's not to love?
What to do for fun GO TO STUDENT ACTIVITIES. WKU has a rich history in sports. Big Red, WKU's mascot, has found his way into college bowl games in football, March Madness in basketball, and conference championships in Softball, Baseball, Swimming, Track, and Cross Country. If it wasn't enough that WKU keeps winning championships, the student body continues to support them every step of the way. Every game, the entire student body will pour into the arena, dressed in red, singing the Western fight song. You shouldn't ever have to leave campus to find something fun. Western's campus is always buzzing with opportunity.
Food and Dining Big Red Dining Dollars allow students to eat anywhere both on and off campus, including several sit down restaurants. The dining halls remain pretty standard, but due to WKU's numerous on campus eating opportunities, and a dining plan which applies to restaurants located off campus, students will get their fill of good food.
Dorm Life The dorms at WKU are constantly being renovated to ensure WKU students can live happily. The biggest downside to campus housing is that freshmen housing remains largely segregated by gender; only the honors dorm allows underclassmen to live co-ed. However, the dorms still remain very nice, and once you become an upperclassmen, all students live co-ed. If campus housing isn't your thing, WKU offers services to help you find affordable living off campus.
Academic Rigor The Honors college at WKU works extremely hard to get the best students to campus and to keep them there. WKU is the only Kentucky college to have an Honors College on campus. WKU also has top major programs in Photojournalism, Broadcasting and Communication, and Chinese. Regardless of your major, WKU encourages all students to spend some time abroad, and offers tremendous financial incentives to get their students to study abroad. All major have clubs or groups which allow students to explore further opportunities in their fields of study.
Tips for prospective students Western Kentucky may have over 18,000 students, but it operates like a large family. Make sure you know all the traditions, campus abbreviations, and campus secrets. It's also an extremely social university, so go out to every social event and show your topper spirit! When you go to campus, make sure you also visit the city of Bowling Green. There's a saying that goes, If you open a restaurant in Bowling Green, it can survive anywhere in the world. This is extremely true. I have yet to have a bad meal in the city. Places like Double Dogs, Hilligan's, or Spencer's coffee house are all incredible. Bowling Green is also home to places like the National Corvette Museum, Mammoth Caves, and even a minor league baseball team. Despite being in the country of Kentucky, there's always something to do, and no matter where you go, everyone has Topper pride. Or, if you need a break from The Hill, Nashville is only an hour drive away. No matter who you are or where you're from, WKU has something to offer for you.

If we dont feel comfortable walking to our car at night time, we can call and they will either walk or drive us to our car. It is really comforting to know that someone is with me during the night and dark hours.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus police, explorers , and many emergency poles throughout camps. Seems pretty safe to me. But I have witnessed a few fights.
Clubs and Activities There is always something fun to do on campus. Usually campus fairs or even inflatables.
Food and Dining Right now there are many renovations so that means less choices for now. Most people don't realize there are a few food places at the top of the hill, they just close early.
Dorm Life If I could recommend a place to stay it would be anything in the middle of campus or in the valley. DO NOT LIVE IN PFT.
Academic Rigor This may not be the easiest university but most professors are great at what they do and make learning entertaining. Most students actually have recent post on Rate My Professor and some I would say are very accurate.
Tips for prospective students Take university experience your first semester! This class literally prepares you for the college experience. Also, make sure you attend MASTER PLAN the week before classes! When scheduling classes make sure you know what building the class is in too because you don't want a class way down the hill and have another class all the way up the hill in 15 minutes.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are multiple safety checks conducted each day/night along with constant patrol of campus security and police. There are also emergency buttons/call options placed all throughout campus.

Clubs and Activities There's a club for everyone! And if we don't happen to have what you're looking for, make one!
What to do for fun Since we are such a close community there is always something going on. The dorms post new posters almost every week and emails are constantly sent out about events happening on campus. We even had a carnival last week!

Food and Dining There is a huge variety of restaurants on campus with everything from Chick-Fil-A to Popeyes to Panda Express. There is even a sit down style restaurant called Red Zone, which is my personal favorite.
Dorm Life The dorm life really depends on which dorm you live in. Minton (honors college dorm) is the best while Pearce Ford Tower is the worst.
Academic Rigor The teachers for the most part are really nice, and have great personalities. The work load is very reasonable for most classes as well.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Being a female, it is more dangerous walking around campus. The campus has many emergency towers with a button anyone could press if they were to feel threatened. This sounds an alarm, and the police would arrive promptly. Also, sometimes at night, people would maybe not always feel comfortable walking from their car in the parking lot to their dorm. The school offers an escort team that you may call at any point to have them escort you to any place you desire on campus. This makes me feel safe and comforted.
Bang for the buck I am lucky enough to receive in state tuition even though I live in Tennessee. All of my teachers, including the remaining staff, are always accessible. I get help whenever I need it, and I receive it promptly.
What to do for fun Many of the dorms constantly have some sort of friendly gathering. PFT has a game room on the top floor, and most everybody spends their time up there hanging with friends, playing pool, and playing ping pong.
Food and Dining I have no complaints on the food offered at my school. I have never had any issues finding something to fill my stomach. They provide a vast amount of restaurants at my disposal, and my meal swipes on my ID card make eating very convenient.
Dorm Life I live in PFT. It is somewhat loud due to the large number of individuals living there. However, I could not be happier where I am. I love having friends surrounding me wherever I am. It is entertaining as well as helpful.
Academic Rigor I was very lucky to have attended a college preparatory school. I am ahead of a good number of students in each of my classes, so my struggles are a bit less severe than those who were not adequately prepared. Although I do feel I am better off than other students there as far as preparation goes, some subjects are still very challenging. This is a good aspect of any institution as people learn the most when they are being challenged. No one likes being told they can't do something.
Tips for prospective students Get involved with those surrounding you. It always is useful to have friends there when you need them, especially ones who understand where you're coming from when it comes to school. Also, don't get stressed over the little things in life. Everyone is there getting their education, so everybody feels the same pressure you are feeling. It gets easier once you have become adapted to your surroundings.
In three sentences Western feels like a big family. Everyone is generous, and most all professors are willing to help their students be successful. I could not be happier at any other institution.

Bang for the buck Looking at other colleges, Western is the most affordable.
What to do for fun I like to go to the animal shelter and walk the dogs. When in college, you don't have much money to do a lot so even a trip to wal-mart is exciting!

Dorm Life It's fun being away from home and being on my own. It gets a little lonely sometimes though.

Clubs and Activities We have sororities and fraternities and any other clubs, and the great thing about them is you don't really have to go searching for them if you are interested in joining one of them.
Great for these types of students It's a great place to live and go to school, and it's not too loud to sit down and study every now and then. But it's very east to get distracted.

What to do for fun The Preston Center is a new state of the art gym for students and staff and it's really nice!
Food and Dining Food is pretty delicious! Make sure you watch what you eat or go to the gym though. The food is good but very fattening!
Dorm Life Pay the extra money to have a room to yourself. I've seen some awful things come between roommates!
Academic Rigor Check the profeval websites, I have found them to be very accurate on the professors that I've had.
Tips for prospective students Live at the top of the hill. The bottom of the hill is very ghetto and trashy.
In three sentences The campus is beautiful. Some professors are wonderful, others are awful. It has been an enjoyable experience for me.

Categories Comments Food and Dining WKU has a lot of dining opportunities and convenience stores on campus. Dining is never boring or old!
Dorm Life Most of the dorms are remodeled. Dorm life is nice, just make sure you don't get into the partying scene with roommates instead of studying. (This is easy to do at WKU)
Academic Rigor Most of the freshman and sophomore classes aren't super stressful, depending on your major. The upper level classes are difficult as they should be. I suggest getting your general education requirements out of the way before deciding on a major so you don't waste any classes in the long run.
Tips for prospective students Avoid classes without textbooks because they aren't as organized. Also, the bigger classes on campus should be avoided because you become a number instead of a person. The campus is situated on a hill, so being out of shape is a large obstacle when going here.
In three sentences Western Kentucky University is a big school with lots of opportunities. Classes are well-rounded, and campus life is exciting. Situated on a hill (hence the hilltopper mascot), WKU offers a broad variety of educational opportunities.

Dorm Life I don't have a dorm, but I heard it is fun.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Though some may consider Western a big campus, and you might be afraid to travel around at night. The University Police Department are always there to keep you safe. There are conveniently located emergency buttons scattered across campus, UPD offers an escort service if you need someone to walk you to your car or back to your room, and there is even a department that walks around to every dorm building each night making sure that everything is under control. Not to mention the safety alerts that get sent straight to your phone from campus security!
Clubs and Activities There are a plethora of different organizations that you can join. From clubs designed specifically for your major, Greek organizations, recreational sports teams, dance teams, political engagement organizations, honor societies, and many others. The great thing about Western is that if you can't find a club that best fits your interest, you can always form one of your own!
Bang for the buck Going to college in general is very expensive, but at Western you are awarded so many nice amenities, that you can understand where your money goes to. From the education itself, the beautiful scenic campus, free admission to sporting events, 24-hour computer labs, nice food, and the occassional free festivals complete with free t-shirts and food. You'll be getting so much ,that you forget how much it cost to come here!
What to do for fun There is always something happening on the hill! Whether it be productions by the Theater & Dance Department or Music Department, sporting events, educational forums, sports viewing parties, sorority and fraternity programs, or Homecoming events. Even if you're not one who likes big crowds, there's a nice fitness center that offers exercise classes, open gyms, and racquetball courts, and you can always find somebody sitting outside or throwing frisbees across one of the nice lawns.
Food and Dining There are several different dinning options from the popular Chick-fil-A, Panda Express, Subway, and Papa Johns, Einstein Bros. Bagels, as well as a few other choices from burgers, salad, tacos, and the all-encompassing buffet cafeteria. The sit-in dinning areas are nice and if one who likes to eat on the go, you can still find tables outside. The food is great, and with several choices for meal plan packages, you are sure to find the right fit that best feeds your hungry stomach.
Dorm Life Dorm life are a big part of what make any college experience. I lived in a dorm up until my last year here on the hill. You will find that while it may not be your parent's house, the atmosphere makes it feel just like home. With in-hall programming activities, floor meetings, and just hanging around, you become so familiar with the people in your hall and on your floor that you will consider them family.
Academic Rigor Western is not only a university with various social and extra-curricular activities and ways to get involved, but the academic reputation of the school is astounding. The classroom environment makes you feel like you are not just a number in a sea of other numbers, but the professors are willing to provide one-on-one attention, which pushes you to want to learn more. Most of the time any professor that you have will actually have hands-on experience in whatever field you are pursuing, so they not only know a great deal of information, but they have actually been in your position before. While come of the coursework can be strenuous, with papers and midterms, quizzes and group projects, know that from the professor to your fellow classmates and even to the tutoring centers, there are people that are willing to help you succeed.
Tips for prospective students If deciding to choose Western as your school, know that from the time you walk onto the campus to the time you graduate you should make the most of your experience. If that means joining a sorority or fraternity, becoming an RA, doing intramural and recreational sports, being apart of the Student Government Association, or attending every football game, there are so many opportunities that this school has. It is important to take advantage of every single one of them, and seek out and do what really makes you happy.
In three sentences Western Kentucky University's motto speaks for itself: The spirit makes the master. There is an overwhelming amount of pride and school spirit that flows from staff to student, and makes each person on the hill want to contribute to the overall success of the university. There is no doubt that once you become a hilltopper, you will say it's the best thing that's ever happened to you.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus police patrol WKU's campus at all hours. WKU is well lit and has several emergency call boxes located throughout campus.
Clubs and Activities WKU has a lower number of student activities compared to larger schools like Ohio State or University of Kentucky. However, the clubs at WKU are diverse and always have fun activities going on.
Great for these types of students High energy students and students with lots of school spirit. The Honors College is perfect for any student looking for a small college experience at a state school price.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The hill itself is pretty unusual itself. It is a brutal task to climb, especially in Bowling Green's merciless heat, but it is endearing and rewarding.
Bang for the buck WKU offers several good academic scholarships for students who excel in high school. Even without scholarships, WKU offers several resources and helpful payment plans.
What to do for fun Bowling Green and WKU are brimming with fun if you know where to look. Great American Doughnut Shop, located near campus, is always good for a late night snack. Small cafes and restaurants are all around Fountain Square in the downtown area and never disappoint. WKU always has music, games, and fun activities at Centennial Mall to keep everyone entertained.
Food and Dining WKU's dining services are being changed because of new renovations on campus. Topper Cafe, the temporary home of the Fresh Food Company, is hit and miss. Panda Express, DUC, and Da Vinci's rarely disappoint.
Dorm Life Residence halls at WKU are all newly renovated. Each residence hall has a study space and laundry facilities that are spacious and clean. WKU's residence halls are better than most private colleges and other state colleges. This school excels at residence life.
Academic Rigor The Honors College at WKU offers an extremely rigorous curriculum if you're looking for a challenging experience. Regular classes at WKU are often work intensive, but rewarding.
Tips for prospective students Apply early and apply to the Honors College if you can. Talk to your admissions counselors and take a tour of the campus. The hill is brutal when you first come but you will learn to love it.
In three sentences Western Kentucky University is an excellent university that offers the amenities of a large university with the feel of a small, regional college; especially if you are a student in the Honors College. WKU has a high level of energy and loads of school spirit. This school has the best mascot and a President who really wants his school to grow.

Categories Comments Campus Safety We have pretty good campus safety. There are always campus police patrolling and if you call the university police they will escort you anywhere, even to your car.
Greek Life There are a variety of sororities and fraternities on campus, including service and social ones.
Clubs and Activities There are so many clubs at wku. We also have an amazing campus radio station, Revolution 91.7 that is fully staffed and ran by students.
Great for these types of students All types, we really support diversity and all kinds of cultures.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We have a kissing bridge and two fountains located on campus. There are also many art installations on campus.
Bang for the buck I think that it costs way too much to go to school at any university.
What to do for fun There are a few hookah lounges and a 24 hour bowling alley. Most of the fun comes from hanging out with your friends.
Food and Dining I wish that we had healthier options, especially those for vegetarians.
Dorm Life We have a lot of community activities that revolve around the dorms such and dances and potlucks. I wish the other students would respect the dorm facilities more.
Academic Rigor The 100 level classes are really easy, but as soon as you start getting into your major they become very rigorous.
Tips for prospective students Get to know the campus. If you are an incoming freshman make sure to come to masterplan where you will get to know your fellow students. Remember to study hard!
In three sentences Western Kentucky University has the most beautiful campus I have ever seen. We have plenty of clubs and facilities for everyone on campus to find thier niche. There is no other school I would rather attend in Kentucky.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Security on campus is very strict, especially compared to other campuses. There are emergency buttons spread all over campus, and police driving around 24/7. In no way, shape, or form will you feel unsafe on Western's campus.
Greek Life Greek Life is huge at WKU. It is something to definitely consider getting involved in. You will make memories with people you will never forget! But if you're not interested in Greek Life, there are plenty of students on campus that feel the same.
Clubs and Activities WKU has many, many clubs and activities you can get involved in. Too many to name, actually! I'm sure if you have a specific club in mind, get on wku.edu and it'll be on the list waiting for you to check it out.
Great for these types of students WKU has a very outgoing student body. If you're quirky, you love to have fun, and you're full fledged with school pride, Western Kentucky University is the school for you.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The only weird tradition WKU has is the red towel. Bring your red towel to EVERY sporting event. When we make a basket or get a first down, you PROUDLY swing that red towel in the air and let everyone know how good it is to be a Hilltopper.
Bang for the buck College is expensive no matter where you go. You get your money's worth with dorm life, food, and even courses. The food is good, the room size is reasonable in the dorms, and the classes are great. Professor's really care about their students here!
What to do for fun Granite the city of Bowling Green is growing, there still isn't a wide variety of activities. You can go to the mall with friends, go see a movie, walk around campus, etc. A super good and fun experience would be to join a sorority or fraternity.
Food and Dining The food on campus is as good as college food gets. There are a lot of fast food chains, but don't worry about getting that Freshman 15. That's what The Hill is there for! You will still miss your mother's cooking, though.
Dorm Life Dorm life will help you meet a LOT of new people. It is absolutely an incredible experience! You will bond with the people on your floor and make lifetime friends.
Academic Rigor I'm not going to say the courses are easy, because they're not. You have to show up for class everyday, listen, and study. If you do those three things, you will have no problem acing your classes.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to wear tennis shoes when walking to class, The Hill doesn't look very big, but once you start to walk up it, you can almost feel your calf muscles growing.
In three sentences Western Kentucky University is one of the most beautiful in the state of Kentucky. Your professors genuinely care about you and your grades, as well. It has definitely been a life-changer...in a good way!

Great for these types of students the MBA is top in the district and anyone going for a Business Degree is set for great classes and a good School to have on your resume
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The school has random concerts to give the students a break from school. It really helps to relax and let people unwind for hard work.
Bang for the buck Because of all the assets and tools at your disposal WKU is a great school for an amazing price. especially in state tuition. not lot for a great school and great teachers and a great fitness center.
What to do for fun WKU has the Preston Center; a place for all kinds of athletics and entertainment, from gymnastics to fitness and any sport in between.
Food and Dining There are plenty of places to eat and dine on campus in several different buildings to give you a chance to choose exactly what you need to eat.
Dorm Life Not many people like living in dorms, but the friendly environments makes living in a WKU Dorm worth it. You can make plenty of friends and get help with homework and anything you need. plus living right on campus is great for getting to class and saving gas money.
Academic Rigor Academics is highly looked upon at western as the top priority Even the athletes concentrate high on their Academics and make sure to keep high GPA's for future classes and rewards for doing well. The professors make class easy and fun and gives you a chance to do well in the class.
Tips for prospective students If ever you want a career in Business, the graduates with an MBA are in the top 20% of their field. they also have great athletics departments and is a great school for fresh students straight out of high school.
In three sentences Western is dedicated in taking students who may be weak in academics and making them star students. Categories Comments Campus Safety Western has their own police force. There are emergency boxes located on all of the campus walkways with cameras in order to contact them. All the dorms have locked access and individuals must show their ID and visitors must be checked in by the front desk. Also, the University has lock down procedures in place with notifications going to your cell phone.
Greek Life I don't participate, but there are many options if that is your thing. Everyone is friendly.
Clubs and Activities There are campus organizations for all different religious groups, intermural sports, open kararoke night in one of the dorms, plus hundreds of other activities ranging from pancakes at midnight to plays, concerts, and book readings.
Great for these types of students Western is centrally located for instate students. It also is in a nice size city that not too large for students from small rural areas to be intemidating. It is also located near major interstates and parkways making it a good connector to Louiville and Nashville.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Western's campus is picturesque, situated on a hill with buildings scattered from top to bottom. At the top of the Hill is the remains of a Civil War battlements. In addition the campus is well known for it's ghost stories and hosts a ghost walk each fall.
Bang for the buck WKU is much cheaper than some of the large universities in Kentucky; in addition, they have a better student to teacher ratio, offer similar programs, and have a diverse student body.
What to do for fun There is always the football games to go to or other sporting type events. Last year, Luke Bryan and Casting Crowns were in concert at Diddle Arena. Then, there are local bands that play on the lawn at DUC, and sometimes an occasional movie.
Food and Dining Western offers many different dining options as well as food/meal plans. One can grab coffee and muffins on the way to class, have pizza or subs, or eat homestyle meals in Fresh. But, if you get tired of eating out everyday, each floor in the dorms have kitchens available for cooking up your own messes.
Dorm Life Western's dorm life is supurb. Each floor is like an extended family. The resident assistants and dorm parents are very understanding and work very hard to keep the floors clean, quiet, and loaded with fun.
Academic Rigor Western strives to be at the top of the game with academic programs. It's duel credit high school/college program ranked top in the nation this past year. It also has a special program for students to work in smaller classrooms for more individual attention for those seeking a college education but may not have the GPA coming out of high school to complete at a high academic level.
Tips for prospective students For new students, be sure to attend a campus day and tour the grounds. They guides will answer any questions you may have and if they can't they will hook you up with the right connections. Orientation is also very beneficial to students and parents in settling ones fears. Also MASTER PLAN is a must for incoming freshmen or any new student to Western. It is a fantastic program.
In three sentences Western has a low student to teacher ratio which allows your professors to direct more of their attention to each individual students needs. The environment on campus promotes a sense of community and drive for success. Western works hard meet all the needs of its students not only through its academic options but also through personal interests of sports, religious groups, clubs, and organizations.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I feel really protected on campus. WKU has there own police task force patroling the area at all times, they can even come and walk you to wherever if you give them a call! There are emergency lights everywhere with buttons that you can push whenever you need help throughout the campus. Since it is a public college, you cannot be too careful out there in a would full of crazy people; you don't know what they are thinking or what they are going to do next. I would encourage everyone to have a can of pepper spray on them at all times or anytime that they are walking alone especially at night, it can come in handy.
Greek Life I don't believe it is necessary to buy your friends but some people are social butterflies and that is great. There are many different greek organizations, I have a lot of friends that I have made at WKU and they love living greek. It is a different lifestyle of fun and fabulous, as it seems, but most of these people make a difference in our community by donating and volunteering. Although you don't have to be greek to make friends, donate, or volunteer; WKU has many different organizations that can guide you for little to no cost, such as Habitat for Humanity! WKU is against hazing, that is another plus!
Clubs and Activities WKU's Christian Student Fellowship is a great group to be in if you need a little guidance to the big man up stairs or if you just want to hang out with some great people. Also, Habitat for humanity is a great organization to be included in and it helps others in need! There is a club for everything; form teaching to outreach organizations. You name it we got it.
Great for these types of students This college is great for those interested in architecture, of course! This field is full of amazing teachers that inspire you to become the artist inside yourself. Also the nursing program have recently teamed up with the medical center and I hear that is is going to be a phenomenal program with a lot of job opportunities. WKU has an impeccable taste for just about everything; from arts to engineering, I know that WKU will be on the top of my list.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus If you rub Mr. Diddle's foot and you will have good luck for the rest of your life! Also, what I love is the fact that Cherry Hall's marble steps are sloped on the left and right sides from all of the people walking up and down to get to and from their english and history classes, it is awesome!
Bang for the buck A good college with knowledgeable teachers that have went through similar experiences as their students know that all the knowledge that you have stored in your brain is the most important thing an individual can own; people can steal and take your house away, car, money but none can have or steal your memories, knowledge, and lifetime experiences. Yes, WKU is bang for the buck, anytime you learn, it is worth it.
What to do for fun Bowling Green is full of fun places and things are happening all the time. Ball games are a real hotspot if you are into sports and usually there are concerts going on every once in a while. Bowling Green is a little big town; if you have a vehicle I encourage you to take the long way home and explore all of what WKU and Bowling Green has to offer. You just might find yourself.
Food and Dining Major construction has been taking place at WKU; upside, more variety of food choices...downside, if you live at the bottom of the hill (like I do), good luck. Buy a bike.
Dorm Life Living with another person in a 16'x12' room isn't always that happy go lucky feeling. No doubt about it, everyone is different you just got to respect those differences and move on. It isn't fun always but it is life and an experience to cherish for the rest of your life.
Academic Rigor Most classes are completely lecture with few tests the entire semester. I would require incoming students to PAY ATTENTION to the teacher, go to class, take notes, study the notes, read the book! Please go to class, you might actually learn something...you payed for it.
Tips for prospective students If you are not the least bit in shape you will be hurting, literally. WKU is notorious for big hills; hence the name WKU Hilltoppers.
In three sentences WKU is one of the most beautiful campus' in the state of Kentucky. Along with its beauty, WKU intrigues you with a sweet twang of southern hospitality you could die for. WKU's slogan The spirit makes the master, certianly does not overestimate the atmosphere of this college!

Take a trip to Mammoth Cave and be amazed by the natural beauty deep down underneath the surface.
Food and Dining For those days of being on campus and wanting to quicky grab a bite to eat, choosing to eat Papa Johns, Chick-fil-A or a bagel from Einstein Bros. (just to name a few) is always listed as an option for your stomach. Having meal plans on campus will allow you to receive a decent serving size of food, and if you don't want to use up all of your meals in one day, adding money to your card is quite easy.
Dorm Life Living on campus has many different perks. Not only are you close to class but also in walking distance of food, workout facilities and you will always be in the know of things going on around school. Making new friends is easier to do living on campus. The unfamiliar faces you see in your dorm will soon become your friends away from home.
Academic Rigor Once you have made the decision to enroll in school, know that you will soon be challenged. Be not afraid of the challenges because only when we are challenged with something we have never seen or done before will we continue to grow. There should be no fear in not knowing something but only a fear when we do not ask questions. The Academic Rigor at school is going to expand your mind. Be open to it, and know that deep down you truly do know the answer. It resides inside of you.
Tips for prospective students Whether choosing to stay in state or go away for school, it is always imperative to communicate effectively with yourself, your teachers and most importantly your parents or mentors that you look up to. When you are faced with a challenge, speak to those that can be of help. Putting your emotions on reserve will only make matters worse. Plan ahead and be proactive by making assignments fun! Along with the freedom of enjoying being in college comes responsibility. Once you receive an assignment, the best thing to do is to complete it instantly. Get together with friends, or floor-mates in your dorm and plan out a time to do homework. Bring snacks and your books so that it's not as boring. Prioritize and know your needs vs. your wants. There are always going to be lots of parties and social outings at school. Know that it is not mandatory to attend each and every social event. Our parents, friends and family members are more proud of our grades and accomplishments than the new shoes we bought. Material items will always be there. Be secure in yourself and love who you are. Have fun! Attend as many home football, basketball, baseball, softball, track and field home games/meets as you can. Show school spirit. Have a genuine interest to want to get to know your professors, financial aid adivsors and other faculty at school.
In three sentences Having a motto such as The Spirit Makes the Master, truly encourages not only students of the university but those in the Bowling Green, KY community to know that you are in control of your thoughts, your destiny and you do have the power. Professors and staff are kind, informative and want to see the best for each and every individual. With a beautiful and picturesque atmosphere it is quite easy to succeed.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus Safety is a #1 for the campuses of WKU. The students have access for escorts from security guards to dorms or their vehicles at any location.
Greek Life There are sororities and fraternities at WKU, I am not however a member of any of these.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs and other sorts of activities available at main campus, there aren't many at the regional campuses, but these students are allowed to join the groups at main campus.
Great for these types of students WKU is great for students of all lifestyles, ages, and backgrounds.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I don't know of any traditions, but my campus is located right across the Community College campus and allows students to take advantage of the lower costs of the community college courses while taking their 4-year classes.
Bang for the buck I feel that I am getting the most out of my educational experience through WKU.
What to do for fun I go to a remote campus, but the college offers sports events for the students and the community.
Food and Dining I don't know about the on campus dining and food, but I have visited and have been pleased with what I have seen.
Dorm Life I do not live in a dorm, but I have heard that dorm life is very satisfying.
Academic Rigor Expectations are very high at WKU. Expect the most of your professors because they are going to expect it from you.
Tips for prospective students Apply for scholarships as soon as you can and when possible. Don't overdo the student loan route if you can help it.
In three sentences Western Kentucky University has all types of programs available to students of all interests. I'm glad there is a campus close to where I live

Categories Comments Campus Safety Very good, campus security everywhere.
Greek Life Most guys and girls love Greek life here, very exciting and interesting.
Clubs and Activities Clubs and activities for everything from sororities to intramural sports.
Great for these types of students Broadcasting students, good broadcasting program.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Campus is on a hill and that's unusual.
Bang for the buck I think Western is a cheaper college out there for what you get for it.
What to do for fun There is so much in this little city of Bowling Green to do including bars, places to eat and just places to hang out like malls, movie theaters and ball parks.
Food and Dining I believe their food is great and have many excellent places to eat and add more every year to suit the student.
Dorm Life I feel like this is the one spot where Western may not do so great. Dorm life could be a lot better.
Academic Rigor Not too tough but you will learn enough to succeed in what ever you plan on.
Tips for prospective students Get in shape for the long walks up the hill can take your breath away and not in a good way .
In three sentences I believe Western is a great place to go to school. They are always improving campus and the professors and great at working with you no matter what degree. Always fun times at Western Kentucky University.

Categories Comments Campus Safety WKU has a police department that works around the clock to provide the utmost safety to its students. There are also stations placed around campus that have a blue light on the top of them with an emergency button that can be pushed in any situation that a student doesn't feel safe. A campus police officer will arrive within 1-2 minutes to assist you!
Greek Life There are several choices, but personally, I'm not involved with any of them. However, I see them on campus quite a bit doing a lot of volunteering or raising money for a benefit.
Clubs and Activities There are too many options to count. Just ask!
Great for these types of students Seriously, any student would be very happy about their choice to attend WKU!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Some cool places to check out would be the Colannades located behind the Fine Arts Center. This used to be the old football stadium at Western. Now you'll find students enjoy hanging out here in between classes. There's also the fountain in front of Van Meter Auditorium - I think this offers one of the best views in all of Bowling Green.
Bang for the buck Tuition has gone up over the past few years - and as beautiful as WKU is, I'm sure you can guess where I lot of our tuition money goes. However, WKU is still a great place for all students!
What to do for fun During the fall and later spring semester, you can always find students playing anything from flag football to ultimate frisbee on the grounds. There are religious groups available such as (B)aptist (C)ampus (M)inistires and others. If you enjoy singing in choir, you can sign up for Choral Society or Women's or Men's chorus. There's TONS of opportunities!
Food and Dining There are plenty options all around campus. There wasn't always the most healthy choices, but within the last few years their have been great strides toward getting a healthier variety of food establishments. My personal favorite is Subway (you can't ever go wrong with it!)
Dorm Life As a freshman and sophomore, I was a resident within Minton Hall. It is considered the freshman honors dorm. Over all, I loved it. You're right in the middle of campus so you don't have too long of a walk up the hill. The dorms also put on different activities throughout the year. You build great relationships with your fellow floor-mates and your RA. It's the perfect way to be immersed in the positive college lifestyle.
Academic Rigor Courses at WKU are generally intellectually challenging and stimulating without being overly so. Any student that puts in the necessary time and effort into daily studying and preparation will reap good grades!
Tips for prospective students Ask questions! What you don't know can't hurt you if you're pro-active about finding out about things you're unsure of. Also, get connected! Attending the week of MasterPlan for freshman is a great way to hear about possible opportunities that are available for you at WKU. You'll also meet new people and have an idea of where all of your classes will be before other freshman. It's a great way to get a leg up! And lastly, don't be afraid to talk to your professors. They want you to succeed.
In three sentences Western Kentucky University is a college that provides the highest possible quality education and cares for every student in a very personal way. It's a college that's big enough to let every student have plenty of options to find their niche, but it's not too big to seem overwhelming. WKU is a beautiful campus that has a wonderful student atmosphere that communicates school spirit, personal pride in all educational endeavors, and seeks to produce highly qualified individuals in wherever their future may take them post graduation.

Greek Life I'm in it, it's not like any major SEC school, but trust me. We get along just fine ;D
Clubs and Activities They have a club for everything.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Egypt = the massive parking lot formal naming is the Creason Lot. Israel = University lot, just down normal street (where barnes and bemis are located). India = little sliver of a parking lot, on normal and university blvd.
Food and Dining Since campus will be renovated this year (and years to come), I advised getting the lowest meal plan or meal plan dollars possible. Big Red dollars can be used off campus at some places, and is truthfully the way to go.
Dorm Life Avoid being in Pearce Ford Tower. Barnes is alright, just at the bottom of the hill. Aim for something in the Valley (Minton, Southwest, McCormack). The RA's are pretty cool, make sure to remember your ID and your dorm Key like your life depends on it. Or else it is about a $45 charge to loose both (Key $25, new ID $20)
Academic Rigor It's not hard at all, just go to class and pay attention.
Tips for prospective students Obviously try and find the quickest way to your classes. 8 am's are never a good idea. Pearce Ford Tower is to be avoided between the hours of 10pm-6am (unless the Popeye's cravings are too much).
In three sentences A campus that is not huge, but not minuscule, which allows students to walk wherever they want on campus and not be completely winded. The experience is a typical college experience, minus a good football team and the fact that half of the campus will be under renovation. The great part of Western is the rich history, a great Student Center, and beautiful shots of the campus every now and then.

Categories Comments Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The weirdest place on campus are the Colanades. This part of campus is overflowing with fine arts students. It's no secret when the art club is working on a new project. Their works are displayed on the steps of our old stadium.
Food and Dining With the recent rebuilding of our main dining and social area, Western has opened other restaurants on campus including a new location for Subway, Panda Express, Bene Pasta and P.O.D. There are several options to eat healthy on campus including meatless Mondays offered by the Fresh Foods company.
Dorm Life The dorms on campus are some of the bests dorms in Kentucky! All dorms are newly renovated and are secure. Single gender dorms close off visitation at midnight Monday through Thursday. Opposite gender guests are allowed to stay the night. PFT and the other upperclassman housing have 24 hour a day visitation. The janitorial staff takes pride in keeping our halls and restrooms clean.
Academic Rigor There are several programs available for students. For exceptional students, Western offers the honors college and study abroad opportunities. Students who need extra attention in academics have several resources on campus which include The Learning Center, Western Kentucky University's on campus community college and student tutors. The Learning Center offers 7 day a week tutoring face to face or over the internet on over the 300+ courses Western offers.
Tips for prospective students Tips I would give for future students are buy plenty of walking shoes for walking the hills on campus. Also, be well prepared for the weather changes!
In three sentences Campus life is unlike any other. With its rich history and scenic campus, who wouldn't want to call WKU home? Western was the absolute best choice for me pursuing my major.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There has recently been a lot more crime on campus this past semester, but the university has increased security, the campus is well lighted at night, and there are safety pole throughout campus which has buttons that if pushed cops will show up.
Greek Life WKU's Greek life is big on campus. I am not in a fraternity, but I have a lot of friends who are in fraternities and sororities, and they love it. There are a lot of fraternities and sororities to choose from also.
Clubs and Activities WKU has a lot of different clubs and activities to choose from such as the ghost haunting club, go green club, and intramural sports.
Great for these types of students WKU is great for just about any student because it is a very diverse school. What is so great about it is that it has a big School atmosphere, but the campus isn't overwhelmingly big that it intimidates new students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus WKU's whole campus location is pretty unusual because the campus sits on top of a large hill, hence our mascot the hilltoppers.
Bang for the buck You get a lot of bang for your buck at WKU. No college tuition in cheap these days, but compared to other colleges WKU has good rates for what you're learning and experiencing from the school.
What to do for fun WKU is located in Bowling Green, Kentucky which is a decent city. It isn't huge so it wont over whelm you and there are always concerts and fun activities going on in the city and on WKU's campus.
Food and Dining The food on campus is pretty good, WKU has a lot of chain restaurants on campus like Pop Eyes, Subway, and Papa Johns. Their main cafeteria is a buffet, and has pretty good healthy food options to chose from. The wait can get long depending on when you eat, but other than that WKU has good food, and good options to chose from.
Dorm Life Living in the dorms was a fantastic experience, but it can be noisy and distracting at times. You will most likely meet really great people in the dorms; I met five of my closet friends from college living in the dorms and we have remained close friends since our freshman year of college.
Academic Rigor WKU has great academics, and the majority of the teachers are amazing and always willing to help you out with any problems you are having. WKU has an award winning business school, broadcasting & journalism school, and nursing program.
Tips for prospective students Tips I would give to prospective students is to go there with an open mind, and willingness to get involved and meet new people. WKU offers a large variety of clubs and organizations for students to join.
In three sentences I rate WKU as an eight on a scale of one through ten, ten being the highest. WKU is a really excellent school; it has great academics, athletics, and the university is beautiful. The campus is big enough for the big college atmosphere, but it isn't over whelming like some of the other bigger universities such as UK or IU.

Food and Dining The food is okay. it changes a lot.
Dorm Life Some dorms are nice... and some not so much.
Academic Rigor Some classes are pretty hard but what comes easy? When you get into your major classes you'll love it.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus police are awesome, they walk around 24/7 surveying the campus. And if something does happen you get alerts.. text alerts right away!
Clubs and Activities CAB is a great club to get involved in .. it helps you to see the fun part of campus. Great for people who are not use to getting out, it helps socialize you.
Great for these types of students Great for all types of students!
Bang for the buck It may be a little expensive for out of state students, but it is definitely worth it! And if you are form Nashville you get discount tuition, a major plus!
What to do for fun In the city of Bowling Green there are many places to have fun. Parties is the main thing in college, but WKU offers something to do multiple times a week. Look forward to concerts, pageants, CABOOM carnival, festivals and much more.
Food and Dining A great variety of foods, just be careful because the freshman 40 will sneak up on you.
Dorm Life The dorms are awesome! Especially the upper class ones. Do your best and you can upgrade. (:
Academic Rigor Professors are strict, yet understanding. Stay on top of your homework and class assignments. If you need help get a tutor they're FREE and very helpful.
Tips for prospective students Keep your GPA up, it's the most important thing in college. Utilize Preston (the gym) .. the freshman 40 is real! Take advantage of campus activities and other things, WKU offers many things to help you succeed in the school year.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Western Kentucky takes safety serious. We have blue light polls located throughout campus for students to press in case there is an emergency, we have an escort service that will escort you on campus at night if you feel like you need it, and there are always campus police circling the campus and checking the residence halls. People cannot even enter the residence halls without a key and cannot enter any of the floors without checking in with the front desk first.
Greek Life All Divine Nine African American sororities and fraternities are present on Western Kentucky's campus. We have Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Zeta Phi Beta, Sigma Gamma Rho, Alpha Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Psi Phi, Phi Beta Sigma, and Iota Phi Theta. Also, we have Panhellenic Caucasian sororities and fraternities. Many of them even have Greek houses. The Greeks on Western's campus are very involved in campus life and are always doing programs on campus and community service. The Greeks at Western are very respectable.
Clubs and Activities At Western Kentucky University, you can get involved in over 300 organizations. Some of those organizations include Greek organizations, religious organizations, intramural sports, organizations that relate to your major, and more. Western has a club for anything you could possibly think of such as paint ball, fencing, kayaking, horse back riding, and so forth. You can even start your own club if you choose to do so.
Great for these types of students Western Kentucky University is a great school for broadcasting, journalism, or film. The nursing and fashion design programs are great as well. All of the academic majors are good, therefore, you cannot go wrong with whatever you major in at Western. Western is a great school for students who do not want to attend a huge university, but not a really small school either. Also, it is a great in-state institution for Kentucky residents and a great out-of-state institution for students who want to attend an out-of-state school, but not too far from where he or she lives. A lot of Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Tennessee, and Georgia natives attend Western Kentucky University. Also, we have a lot of foreigners as well. Many students from other countries attend Western on a foreign exchange program, in which Western has a great study abroad program too.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Western Kentucky's mascot is an unusual mascot. He is a Hill Topper name Big Red. Big Red has even placed high in university mascot competitions. He brings a lot of great energy and spirit to the campus. The Kissing Bridge, the Guthrie Bell Tower, and Centennial Mall are just a few places on campus that are significant to our campus. Western students are known to carry their Western red towels with them at Western events. It is just a part of the school spirit.
Bang for the buck Western Kentucky definitely gives you a bang for the buck. You get great on campus food, renovated housing, great academic majors and programs, excellent teachers, and plenty of activities to get involved with on campus. You have to take advantage of every opportunity given to you. Western even provides shuttles for students to take to class and shuttles that will take students to the mall, grocery stores, and places of that sort. Not only that, but students get student discounts at fast food places and restaurants in Bowling Green. We even get into the sport games on campus for free.
What to do for fun There are over 300 organizations/clubs to join on campus, there are parties every weekend, and even activities going on during the day. There are movie theatres, bowling alleys, a skating rink, all sorts of restaurants, arcades, and even a mall to go to in the city of Bowling Green, which is where Western Kentucky is located. Nashville, Tennessee is only 45 minutes away from Bowling Green, therefore a lot of students go there for a mini get away sometimes when they want to get out of Bowling Green for a few hours, a day, or the weekend. Not to mention, Louisville, Kentucky is only two hours away and Lexington, Kentucky is two and half hours away from Western. Therefore, there are lots of other cities close by to visit. A lot of times, Western students may go to parties or things of that sort at other nearby colleges. It's a lot of fun to attend events at Western Kentucky, but still go experience parties and events at nearby universities as well.
Food and Dining Western Kentucky University has a variety of restaurants and food places to eat at on campus. Papa Johns, Chik-Fil-A, Subway, Einstein, and Panda Express are just a few places to choose from on campus. Also, we have an eat-in restaurant, Red Zone, where you can watch any sport game on television while eating wings, burgers, quesadillas, nachos, and so forth. Western provides a regular all-you-can-eat buffet style cafeteria, a pasta bar to get your favorite pasta, coffee shops, and convenient stores to get your late night snacks or personal toiletries.
Dorm Life The dorm life at Western Kentucky is excellent as well. Western provides nice looking dorm rooms and bathrooms for students. They provide all male, all female, co-ed, and upperclassmen suite style dorms for students. We even have on-campus apartments for upperclassmen currently being built on our campus. All of the resident halls are newly renovated too. The resident assistants, hall directors, and housing staff at Western are very friendly and easy to talk to when you need them. Also, the dorms provide programs and activities for the students to participate in to get to know other students living in their dorms and to become more comfortable with their roommate and resident assistant.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor is challenging, but not impossible. Your teachers will not baby you. They expect for you to read your class syllabus, come to class, be on time, and simply do what you need to do. Your teachers will work with you if you are struggling, as long as they see you are taking the class serious and are doing your best. It's all about communicating with your professors.
Tips for prospective students One tip for prospective students would be to take a tour of the university on a week day so that you can experience what the everyday life experience would be like. Next, prospective students need to come open-minded and ready to step out of their comfort zones and associate with people you usually would not associate with or do things you normally would not do. You will be amazed by how many clubs/organizations there are to join and how many great people you can meet just by stepping out of your comfort zone.
In three sentences Western Kentucky University is a great, well-rounded university with an amazing school spirit and friendly atmosphere. The academics, dorm life, campus food, and activities on campus are all wonderful. The campus is not too small or too big, but just the right size.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus To me being a income freshman there is nothing unusual about the tradition or the campus of w.k.u. I give it five stars! I'm not over exaggerating!
Bang for the buck One of the things that caught my eye was the fitness center! They had a state of the art equipment to get anybody in tip top shape! They have a track and two basketball courts all in the same room! W.K.U is committed to having healthy students.
What to do for fun Their is tons of things to do at w.k.u. I've learned they got intramural sports, concerts, mall, restaurants, clubs, sports games, and if you don't like none of these you can create your own sport or club!! So theres all types of stuff to do!
Food and Dining I went to other college visits and truth be told I couldn't find a better food and dining place other than w.k.u!! They had a good portion of different foods. Whether it would be breakfast, lunch or dinner they had a variety of foods that everybody loved.
Dorm Life Honestly the dorm life could be better but it is just enough to call home at w.k.u. You could adjust the beds at any height or you could move it a round. You don't have to keep it in default mode you could create the your own style of things.
Academic Rigor They have tutoring services like STEP. They have a building called MASS MEDIA where you can study in there for almost 24 hours!! They have academic advisor assigned to a group of student so they can give you feed back. The academic rigor is at a all time high here at w.k.u and I will not take it for grant it.
Tips for prospective students Do not slack in any work, college life will be no joke. You may hear this a thousand times but people who have not succeeded in college always told me, I wish i would of stayed in college.' Don't let that person be you!
In three sentences The faculty and student have so much charisma here at w.k.u. There is so many variables to help you succeed. Five STAR atmosphere.

Clubs and Activities There are plenty of clubs and activities offered, even intramural sports.
Bang for the buck The university is one of the more cheaper ones in the area, and I believe I'm getting the proper education for the money spent (in comparison to other universities).
What to do for fun If you want to have some fun, join campus clubs, participate in activities, or just chill around on campus. There are usually events on and off campus a lot of the students are present for as well.
Food and Dining The food and dining here at Western Kentucky University is great. You have a set amount of meal plans that you use every week, and for one meal plan you can purchase either a meal, or a pass to the buffet in the University Center.
Dorm Life The dorm life experience varies depending on who you're roomed with and who you're affiliated with within the dorm itself. Most people have no problem with the dorm life, but others believe the dorms are too unsanitary or not peaceful enough.
Academic Rigor There isn't any intense academic rigor, most students don't complain about any of the classes or any of the teachers being too inflexible or unreasonable. Choose classes that you're interested in, and if you put forth enough effort, you should be able to easily pass them.
Tips for prospective students If you aren't comfortable with waking up early in the morning, do not take early classes; that's self-explanatory. Also, maintain a steady eating habit and prepare yourself to be a budget, because college is expensive.
In three sentences Western Kentucky University is a mediocre college that offers a decent education. Western is one of the easier colleges to get accepted to, and isn't as expensive as some others in the KY/TN area. Although Western may not offer the best education, the students and staff are all friendly and supportive.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Swarming with campus police - especially at night. We have police call buttons everywhere, too.
What to do for fun This depends on your definition of fun. If you like parties - Go Greek; if you like sports - we have pretty good teams and a lot of intramural activities on campus; if you like music - all of our groups are open to non major students (TRY OUT!); for just regular fun - meet people and go from there! We have parks around campus and are pretty close to Nashville, TN. Trust me...go to Nashville. It's great.
Food and Dining It's not bad food...it's just not good food, ya know? Like it tastes good, just don't be eating the same place all the time unless you want that freshmen 15. The restaurants are constantly changing and now that WKU is under construction, I've lost sight as to what food is going to be there or not. If you like Subway, we have two on campus. :)
Dorm Life This is honestly a very diverse place for dorm life, depending on where you choose as your residence hall. Halls like Southwest Hall and Minton Hall, which are located in the center of campus are really fun and lively. Halls such as Douglas Keen, which is located on the far side of campus...not so much.
Academic Rigor As long as you try, you should be golden. Class difficulty is diverse in retrospect to the teacher.
Tips for prospective students 1) Choose a dorm room close to your classes. 2) If you want fun, make friends that own apartments and cars. 3) Get involved, or your life is going to become super boring, super fast. 4) Don't be afraid to look stupid when having fun at campus events.
In three sentences Western Kentucky University is a pretty well rounded school. Whether you're looking for a Communications major or an Asian Studies major, there's quite a lot to choose from. However, (not that it's a boring school) if you're looking to be entertained at college by the stereotypical, american-pie college expectation, you shouldn't choose WKU as your school.

Categories Comments Greek Life decent
What to do for fun You can go to the movies, hang out at the mall, etc.
Food and Dining Mostly fast food and unhealthy choices. Also meal plans are horrible.
Dorm Life Honors and upper classmen halls are great but some of the freshman halls have bad reputations, especially the boy freshman
Academic Rigor Some Professors are harder than others.
Tips for prospective students If you take a chemistry class with Dr. Pesterfield or Dr. Dahl, be prepared to study a lot.
In three sentences Western Kentucky University is a great place to learn. Western has a lot of professors that are well-known for their research so if you are interested in research Western is a great place for it. The worst thing about Western is the hill that it sits on but overall it is a great campus

Categories Comments Campus Safety Our college campus makes sure that we can be safe walking on campus all through out the day and night. Knowing that we have campus patrol riding around to make sure that nothing is going on makes me feel good. The campus security sends us emails and text messages to let us know if anything happens and how to handle the situations.
What to do for fun There are events from N.A.A.C.P., International Clubs, Intramural sports, and so much more. There are so many things going on everyday and night on campus. There are also some places to walk around and just relax.
Food and Dining I enjoy the food on campus, there are plenty of options available to you. There are places where you can get salads and wraps to pizza and burgers. The also have smoothie places and coffee shops. Knowing that all the choices are out there makes me feel great to be attending W.K.U.
Dorm Life I truly love staying on campus. You get to find out what's happening everyday of the week. There literally is something going on 24/7 and that's what makes it more enjoyable.
Academic Rigor The teachers that I had showed that they cared about my education. Some of my teachers offered extra help and told us that they didn't want us to fail. Hearing these things from your teachers is comforting because they influenced me to work harder.
Tips for prospective students The school does have a lot of varieties of degrees they have available. It's surprising to found out that everything you could ever need is on campus. The fact that all of the buildings are in walking distance helps out a lot.
In three sentences Western Kentucky University is a school that has opened my eyes to many possibilities. I learned how many classes I could take and what other class were optional for me. Even thought the school was not my first choice, its one of the best choices I ever made.

Students can request campus police escort if they feel threatened or wary. The escort is especially encouraged for late night classes.
Greek Life Greek Life is busy, busy, busy. Check out them out on WKU's website.
Clubs and Activities There are over 200 clubs on campus. Check them out on the WKU website.
Great for these types of students WKU is great for students who like to be physically active - the campus is built on a hill, academically active - professors will challenge you, and socially active - there are many opportunities to become involved with something you believe in.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The campus is situated in part on a civil war fort. There is a lot of early American history to experience and explore on campus through the Kentucky Museum.
Bang for the buck Bang for the buck is relative to what you are striving to obtain. WKU is a good school. Is it the best one for you? Only you can answer that, come visit, meet some of the professors and students in your chosen area of study.
What to do for fun There are MANY activities on campus and around Bowling Green. There are over 200 student organizations on campus with diverse goals and interests. Nashville's night life is only 60 miles to the south.
Food and Dining There are many places to choose from to eat on campus for the average student. If you have special dietery needs, you'll need to scout out the various places and find what works best for you.
Dorm Life I have not lived in the dorms, but my friends who do mostly love it. Of course there are always the roommate problem stories, but overall living in the dorms sounds like a positive experience. The dorms have activities, parties, study areas, one has restraunts...
Academic Rigor Academic difficulty depends on the professor and the student. I have had classes that I did not find difficult but where new subjects to me and therefore took considerable study time to meet my grade goals. I have also had classes that required little study time. Difficult is a relative term.
In three sentences WKU offers a wide variety of degrees through several colleges. Classes tend to be smaller than the average university and professors are readily available to students.

Categories Comments What to do for fun The campus has a lot of student activities to engage in. There is bowling, pool, the gym, and other recreational activities offered. And off campus there are plenty of social events to attend.
Food and Dining The food provided is limited, but affordable and is very good. Another good thing is that the dining halls are in the middle of campus for easy access. There are also a good amount of healthy alternatives for students who are green in their food choices.
Dorm Life Dorm life is one of the best parts about going to this school. There isn't too much to complain about. The dorm policy is very strict providing a feeling of safety, and it is a great way to meet new friends.
Academic Rigor Some of the courses can be difficult, but depending on the professor and study time dedicated to the classes can alter the success of a student. Studying is a major key factor for doing well in a class, and some classes need more studying than others, so a balance has to take place. It is challenging but well worth it.
Tips for prospective students With so much being offered, it can be easy to be distracted but it is best to stay focused. Academics always come first, that is the reason why people go to college.
In three sentences Western Kentucky is a wonderful university with great potential. The school offers so much academically and fundamentally. It is one of the best schools in Kentucky.

Clubs and Activities If you're looking for it, you can find it. If not, you can start it!
Great for these types of students Chemistry or Pre-Professional programs in the medical field would definitely benefit by coming here. The journalism program is also very good.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus At games, it is tradition for students to have their own and wave The Big Red Towel that the first president started doing.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There is an escort system in place that is free to use. if you ever have to go a long distance by yourself in the dark they are very useful. And they have recently up-ed the campus police force.
Food and Dining They are renovating DUC and it wont be finished for a good year or two so all the food places have been scattered around. Most everything is good but the pasta place is the best.
Dorm Life I've only spend one year in the dorm but it was ok. People were respectful to one another and the place was kept relatively clean.
Academic Rigor If you get a good professor (highly recommend using profeval) then classes are too difficult.
Tips for prospective students Do not worry about gaining the freshman fifteen here! The campus is nothing but up hill

Great for these types of students This school is great for all types of people. No matter what your going through, your disability, your comfort zone, or anything like that Western Kentucky is a very welcoming place for all types of students

What to do for fun There is tons to do for fun at Western. From going to concerts, to plays, to recitals, to football games, to basketball and baseball. There is always something going on on this campus. Also the dorms always have group events as well each month that are free and extremely fun.
Food and Dining We have a lot of various food choices on campus. The food is always made fresh, most of the time in front of you. Which is good because it allows you to see what is going in to your food as well as who is cooking it.
Dorm Life I love living on campus here, due to the fact that it feels like a little community in all the dorms here. We have resident assistants on each flow as well as a hall director that is available 24/7 whenever you need them. You never have to worry about bugs, someone breaking in, someone stealing your things or anything like that while living on WKU's campus.

Categories Comments Food and Dining Elizabethtown Grill is available for those who attend WKU. There is an Elizabethtown branch attatched to the Elizabethtown Community and Technical college. Also located near this site is the culinary students who provide lunch menus through email. They are conviently located, affordable, and provide fresh food.
Dorm Life I attend online classes at Western Kentucky University. The college offering these classes has enabled me to attend this college without having to live far from my parents home. Not all students are fit to live in college dorms, and I am glad I never had to leave far from my parents to further my education.
Academic Rigor Classes are challenging, but instruction is emaculant. Any class I have attended the teachers have promptly given me one on one communication. This enabled me to stay a head in classes and fully understand the material
Tips for prospective students Prospective students should look forward to talking with counselors. They should not be afraid to not know exactly what they want to do. Counselors understand students will grow to learn what they are interested in. Counselors will teach you all the paperwork necessary to attend the college.
In three sentences Western Kentucky University is teaching me the skills I need to be a successful business women. Attending this school is changing my life. I will have a career when I finish working with the facility and staff at WKU.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Overall campus is a very safe place. It is our own little neighborhood and has it's occasional robberies within dorms, but it's typically safe. I have no more worries about walking campus in the middle of the night than I would in my hometown. It's calm and good. Campus police patrol campus also.
Greek Life Campus has plenty of fraternities and sororities to choose from. Some are volunteer based. Some are academic. Some are co-ed, and some are cheaper than others. It all depends on what you're looking for if anything. Plenty of students are not directly affiliated with any greek house.
Clubs and Activities WKU has numerous clubs and activities to become involved in. Personally I'm involved in the International Club, Invisible Children Chapter and a few others. Numerous activities need volunteers through out the year. We have different science clubs, broadcasting, radio station, recreational, volunteer, leadership groups, etc.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Campus has a very pathetic park that most don't realize is labeled park. It contains an archway near the top of the hill by Snell Hall, a patio of sort, and a few benches. It's a nice little spot but hardly a park.
Bang for the buck If I had to be brutally honest I would say WKU is simply another school. Some people really like it here, but most do not plan on staying any longer than they must in Bowling Green post graduation. It's a nice place with many options for students, but not my favorite. It is what you make it, and I've chosen to make it good.
What to do for fun Mostly students create their own fun. There are a couple bars downtown and two movie theaters in town. There are two parks to visit and campus has its own recently renovated gym. However, Bowling Green is a small town with out much else. Students mostly hang out, study, and create their own fun.
Food and Dining Honestly, for the most part every place on campus serves the same general items. There are a fair amount of location options when not under construction, but all of it resembles fast food services and is terrible for vegetarians or any one else with diet preferences.
Dorm Life Residential halls are a place for you to hopefully call home. By getting to know the people on your floor the environment is almost always cheerful and entertaining. There will always be someone to spend time with.
Academic Rigor How difficult a class is depends on the teacher and how you as the student decide to manage your time and studies. It's definitely not impossible, but can be very challenging.
Tips for prospective students Become involved in as many things as you want without overbooking yourself. It's important to make time every week to hang out with friends and relax. College does not need to be all about graduation. It's a time to enjoy and experiment.
In three sentences WKU is a small campus with multiple options for students. It's easy to make life about your studies and classes, but campus faculty do try to make fun activities and events intended as enjoyable and stress relieving events, as do multiple organizations and fraternities. The school is what you make it, and is constantly working on a new construction project.

Great for these types of students Any!

What to do for fun For fun i hang out with friends in the community lounges in the dorms
Food and Dining One word. AMAZING!
Dorm Life I'm a RA at WKU and i can vouch first hand that dorm life is amazing. Rooms are as comfortable as you want them to be. You can put your own style to your room.
Academic Rigor With any school your dedication and determination will be the out come!
Tips for prospective students When you arrive at WKU to start your college life experience you are truly welcomed. There is always someone there to answer any questions you have. Come to WKU where the spirit makes the master.
In three sentences Western Kentucky is an amazing school with numerous versital opportunities. When you step on campus you feel like your a part of western, not just another student ID number in their system. to have the opportunity to experience college life at WKU is phenomenal.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are bad things that happen on campus but not often enough to be a big deal. Maybe once a semester.
Greek Life Greek life is pretty lame. Most of the people are the snootiest of rich, spoiled kids who either couldn't get into a larger university or had close friends that weren't good enough to get into a larger university or their family had some kind of tradition of going to WKU. Though the majority of people who go to WKU are really big UK fans.
Clubs and Activities There are clubs and activities. I never wanted to associate myself with the rest of the campus that much as to join a club.
Great for these types of students Anyone who is either to stupid to get into a larger university, or cannot/does not want to pay the ridiculously high prices of a larger university.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I'm not really sure there are any unusual traditions. Nor do I think there are any locations that are particularly abnormal, especially where people may convene in any large proportion.
Bang for the buck The people who make the decisions of what to do with the money of that school have their priorities in all the wrong places. However they are probably working from long ago past complaints and are just now getting things to where students wanted them 15 years ago. It's still a nice looking campus, considering there is some kind of construction going on somewhere all the time.
What to do for fun Get drunk. There are activities but what they are and how entertaining they are, I am completely oblivious to.
Food and Dining For the most part is not that great. Very mediocre. They are working on a new university center that will improve on the dining there, so it may be better within the next couple of years. The places that aren't major chain restaurants are sub-par and are only good to eat if you are starving after not eating for a week straight.
Dorm Life I lived in the best and most recently renovated dorms on campus. Northeast and Southwest are the nicest on the inside. However there is this thing where the desk clerk has to see your ID when you enter the building because of a girl being murdered back in 2006. The windows do not open all the way because of a guy was on mushrooms and jumped out of his window from the 20th (or so) floor. It's a pain sometimes but it's also easy to get used to and forget all about it. The upperclassmen dorms are the best.
Academic Rigor Their set of rules and regulations are complete and utter BS. They are basically in place just to save the asses of the higher ups. There is little consideration for actual student life.
Tips for prospective students Go to WKU as a cheaper option to larger schools you were not able to get in to. Keep in mind though that tuition is getting close to 8k plus whatever other expenses they wish to include so it's closer to 10k for only an okay school.
In three sentences On a scale of one to ten WKU would sit firmly in the middle at five. It's a beautiful campus and about half of the professors are good. However the higher administration do not seem to have the students' best interests in mind whatsoever.

What to do for fun There is a lot to do with greek life and clubs.
Food and Dining There are many different places to eat on campus and the food is wonderful. Plus there are dining alls near almost every building.
Dorm Life I did not stay at the dorms, but my friends seemed to like them.
Academic Rigor I have learned a lot at this school, but the courseload is not as difficult as some other private schools.
Tips for prospective students Ask questions, most of the professors would rather to ask a lot of questions then not understand the material.
In three sentences This school is good for non-traditional students. The university is large with a lot of oppurtunities and very non-bias. The professors are very knowledge and eager to help students.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There have been an increase in incidents on campus and since then they have increased the security. It is pretty safe. As with anywhere walk with a buddy. They have a number you can call and someone will walk you back from your car or whereever. Use it and pepper spray!
Greek Life Greek life is pretty big at WKU. I am not part of it and still have a good time though. They kind of all stick together.
Clubs and Activities There is literally something for everyone.
Great for these types of students Laid back
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus None that I know of. Just walking you will see beautiful places to sit and people watch.
Bang for the buck School is just expensive! I suppose it's pretty good though in comparison to some other schools.
What to do for fun There are always things going on around campus. Just look around you'll see posters advertising things. You just have to find what you enjoy and who you enjoy being with. There is something for everyone.
Food and Dining I've always liked the food on campus. There is a pretty wide variety. They have healthy things and bad thing. The healthy ones are usually a little more (figures). Now that I don't have meal plans anymore I want to eat on campus!
Dorm Life Dorm life isn't the best. It is a good experience and there is a dorm for everyone (smart kids, upper classmen, international studnets, co-ed and non co-ed). The ones I stayed in were kind of dirty though. They didn't clean the bathrooms on the weekends. Ew. They do fun stuff though in each dorm and they are safe. Although, who wants to be told who they can have over and when while you're supposed to be living independently.
Academic Rigor How hard the classes are just depends on your individual teachers and the classes you take. I've had very easy and very hard classes. Rate my professor really comes in handy. I have not had a class that was impossibly hard.
Tips for prospective students Take the tour of the campus if you are considering going there. It is a beautiful campus with lots to do. The environment is laid back and nonjudgmental. It is a warm environment and not too big but big enough.
In three sentences WKU is a good school. It is laid back. It has a diverse population.

Food and Dining You have a very large variety of food. RedZone is a sports bar where u can come in sit down order Pizza, chicken, Nachos, Chili Dog, and much more and enjoy the big game on the TVs. Also they are adding a Panda Express so they are still adding more food!
Dorm Life Living in the dorms is great for those who like to socialize! They are constantly cleaned and looking as good as possible. and most Ra's are pretty cool and willing to help you with anything you need.
Academic Rigor Classes here are not easy however they aren't too hard either. The quality of teachers do vary and you may have a really good teacher or a really bad one. homework is generally fairly manageable as long as you don't procrastinate!
Tips for prospective students Coming here you are going to meet alot of cool and interesting people. Make sure you are capable of balancing school and social life for a better time at western. and last but not least have fun!
In three sentences Western Kentucky University is better than what you may expect i give it a 10 out of 10! It has an excellent campus with great food and food is very important. Also it has a wonderful and i mean wonderful Chinese program which you would be lucky to take part in.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck WKU is a great place to be for any college student. There's a variety of majors that appeal to many students and they are actually good programs. Also, since it is a state school, tuition is low, which makes this the perfect place.
Food and Dining The food at Western is so diverse. There's a little bit of everything, so you can always find something you want. There's two Subways, a buffet style cafeteria, a Mexican place, pizzeria, home-style food, pasta place, sports grill, cafes, and a bagel shop all on campus.
Dorm Life The dorms are another great part about Western. All freshmen and sophomores are required to live on campus. That helps you build close friendships and really form a family at your home away from home.
Academic Rigor The professors at WKU really enjoy what they teach. I've never had a professor who didn't have a real passion for what they taught. Not to mention, most professors take a real interest in their students and are more than willing to give extra assistance if needed.
Tips for prospective students Before making the final decision on what college you want to attend, make sure to visit this campus. A lot of care has been put into it, and it's a beautiful place to live. Campus is its own little hub, just on the outside of Bowling Green (a great city to be in).
In three sentences I've completed one year at WKU and I absolutely love it. When I was looking at the school, I never heard negative feedback about it. Everyone I knew that went there loved it and it met all my high expectations.

Categories Comments Campus Safety They make sure that their students are safe. They give out the campus police number to all the students at the beginning of the semester to make sure they understand that they are there to help.
Clubs and Activities There are a lot of clubs and activities at WKU. If you look for them, then you can find them.
Bang for the buck WKU is cheaper than most colleges, and they make you pay only want you need to. The price is great for what you get.
What to do for fun WKU tries to have activities every week for the students. Not all of them are free, but for the most part they are. There is a lot of fun around WKU's campus, you just have to look for it.
Food and Dining If you love fast food, then this is the place for you. There are some places that you'll get almost homemade fun, and the cafeteria is good about that. All the restaurants are greasy though, except for Bene Pasta and Subway. There is a lot of variety of food on campus though.
Dorm Life The dorms are big enough to stuff a lot of your items in it. Some floor mates though will randomly run down the halls screaming after having to much fun, and you will hear the train every night.
Academic Rigor There are a lot of great professors on campus that want you to succeed. Some, though, don't understand that you have other classes, while other professors give you almost no extra work.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared to walk up the hill everyday, because you can not always catch the bus. On the positive note, by walking up the hill all the time, you will have great legs by the end of your first semester.
In three sentences Western Kentucky University is known as the party school, and it can be if you want it to be. WKU is also great for their academic achievements. Unfortunately, WKU is not the greatest athletic school.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students I would recommend most of the majors at this institution except for the social science majors.
In three sentences WKU is a well rounded university in most respects. I would moderately recommend this school. There are better schools in the region though I would say this is one of the top in the state.

Categories Comments Campus Safety For the most part, Campus Safety seems to be secure. There are many many campus police officers that wander the campus and keep it protected. While there will always be a little bit of violence on campus (fights and what not), WKU has a very minute amount of violence.
Great for these types of students WKU is great for students who enjoy small class sizes. While WKU is a University, classes range from probably 15 to 30 people per class. This always for greater teacher/student relationships to build that you don't always get at massive Universities. WKU is also great for students who desire to live in a rural yet city area. Bowling Green is not a massive city, but it is definitely not small town USA. If you desire a place with many great restaurants, shopping experiences and recreation, but want to stay away from large cities, WKU is for you.
Bang for the buck Comparing the tuition of WKU to other Universities, I feel like there prices are average. The campus is extremely nice and it's facilities are of high quality. Not only is campus nice, but the teachers are very professional and skilled in their subjects.
What to do for fun There is a recreational hall on WKU's campus as well as a fully furnished workout gym. Not only is there a workout gym, but a sports gym complete with multiple full size basketball courts, a walking track, racket ball, volley ball and much more. The facilities are of high quality.
Food and Dining The food and dining on WKU's campus is incredible. From coffee to pizza to sandwich shops, WKU's got them all.
Dorm Life I have never lived in a dorm. However, from what my fellow peers have told me, they enjoy the dorm life pretty well!
Academic Rigor Western Kentucky University's courses require work. However, if you manage your time well and study, this will not seem so bad.
Tips for prospective students Always make sure you have a plan. If you go into college without a selected major or a course plan, you will waste time and money. Always have a plan.
In three sentences I would give Western Kentucky University 5 out of 5 stars! The campus is incredibly nice and clean, and the college staff is completely helpful. The teachers are very well trained and professional in what they do and are willing to work with you on a personal level.

Food and Dining The food and dining was very good.
Dorm Life I never lived on campus so I don't know what it was like.
Academic Rigor Academically there were many tutors to help out. The professors were great and I was able to pass woth good grades.
Tips for prospective students Tips for students would be: if you have a dream, college is the only way out. Do good and study hard!

Categories Comments Campus Safety The safety on campus is as powerful as they can make it. If you're having to walk somewhere from the times of dusk until dawn there are many different campus police you can call and they will come to you and escort you anywhere to improve your safety.
Greek Life I have absolutely no idea what the Greek life is like, but I hope to find out some day.
Clubs and Activities I have not joined any clubs or sororities yet but I have been given the advice many times to join as many as possible but only to the point where I still have time to focus on classes. One club I hope to be a part of is the Choral part.
Great for these types of students If you're like me, Western is the perfect choice. I was scared to death to start college because I'm not great with meeting new people and I'm very shy. But since there are so many different things to be a part of to get to know the college and students before you actually attend makes it a lot easier. There is an activity called the M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan and it allows students to be on campus 1 week before the semester starts and if you're living in a dorm you can go ahead and move in. Each day has different things going on to be a part of and you can take a tour on where exactly your classes will be as if you have already started the semester.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus All over campus there are statues of different things. Some of important people that are a huge part of the University but there are also some random statues of some crazy looking things. I'm sure they have some sort of meaning but just by seeing them for the first time it's just a decoration that's fun to look at.
Bang for the buck You can do work study. Which means you take a job on campus and you still get a paycheck just like any other job but it also lowers your tuition because you are working on campus.
What to do for fun Western Kentucky University always have many different activities to be a part of for fun. Their activities usually benefit different organizations too. Last month they held an activity called Walk a mile in their shoes, where men would wear red high heels and walk one mile to help fight against sexual abuse. There are hundreds of things to be a part of and of course the Sororities.
Food and Dining The food is delicious. There are so many options on where to eat, there's restaurants and there is also a place called Fresh Foods. I personally always choose Fresh Foods when I'm on campus because it only costs $8 and it's a buffet with hundreds of different options of food. There is a buffet for almost every ethnicity in there and for a fee of $8 you get to eat all you want.
Dorm Life I am not living in a dorm, I chose to live at home to save money. However I know some people who chose to live in a dorm and they seem to love it. It's a great experience and a fast and easy way to meet new people and get involved in the college life. I still recommend it if you don't live close enough to commute.
Academic Rigor Even though I haven't actually been on campus attending a class, I have taken Dual Credit courses in high school that has the same curriculum as Western's. They definitely weren't as easy as a regular high school class but it wasn't anything that someone couldn't handle as long as you stay focused and studied hard for every test.
Tips for prospective students Always try to visit campus as much as possible because, even though everyone is very friendly and would gladly help you get to your destination, the campus is still large and it's easy to get lost. Even in the buildings where your classes will be, there are many ways to get turned around and end up somewhere else. Also be cautious when choosing your classes because you don't want to have one class at one end of the campus and only have 15 minutes to get to your next class on the opposite side of Western.
In three sentences Western Kentucky University is a great college to attend as a first year college student. The professors and students there are all very friendly and helpful. The campus has many different activities and fun things to be a part of.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus Safety at my college has been strictly enhanced ever since the end of last semeser where 3 robberies (mugs) happened dead in he middle of campus. You would think people would not be that bold, but the Bowling Green Police Department can get bolder. On every corner you see their car parked with them in it and dozens of cops on foot and bicycles patrolling through campus.
Greek Life The Greek life here gets a little crazy, but at the same time is taken very serious. Greeks here focus on academic standing and leadership skills. If you practice these two things and get a hang of it in the college life, you should be just fine. My mother is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc. which has boosted my interest in Greek life as well.
Clubs and Activities Clubs & activities I don't know too much about because I haven't really focused in on those yet this past semester, but next year that will be one of my priority for community service and volunteer work too!
Great for these types of students Western Kentucky is great for those types of students who know where they are heading in life and are not in college to experience it, but in college to get the best of it for his/her future.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I wouldn't say unusual, but more of sparking an interest toward me when I came in and everyone that had already been there began waving there Red Towels in the air in circles. A coach Western Kentucky University had a while ago, did this action fiercely in counteraction with officials calls towards his players. From then on, it became and addition to do at any school event appropriate.
Bang for the buck Being here at Western Kentucky University has really changed my outlook on life and being a man. At first before summer came during my senior year, everything was a dream, but now I am living it and making my future what it is right there on Western's campus.
What to do for fun You can always go to The Preston Center for fun. Pick-up games of basketball are here, as well as dancing and weight-lifting.
Food and Dining Food and dining can be expensive if you do not apply for meal plans. However, the campus needs to prolong the average meal swipes allowed for a day, which is 4.
Dorm Life Dorm life is pretty content. Dorm life is also what you make it.
Academic Rigor Good Standing.
Tips for prospective students Get all you can get done now, and knock out all the hard things early!
In three sentences Western Kentucky Is all about giving you the chances you need to succeed. If being all about your business is what you are exceedingly about, then WKU is the place for you. Good, safe environment is also a good terse add-on as well.

Dorm Life Dorms are very clean and maintained well.
Academic Rigor The honors courses push you to think outside the box and are great for students who plan to study abroad. Not to mention, the professors care about your success.
Tips for prospective students Visit campus! The calm and beautiful atmosphere can definitely sway your decision and make you feel right at home.
In three sentences WKU has a beautiful campus and is greatly diverse. All staff is helpful and easy to get in touch with. Overall, I would give this university an 8 out 10.

Categories Comments Campus Safety They are officers around campus. We also have the choice to call a security if we do not feel safe waling around at night.
Greek Life There are many opportunities to join the Greek life. They old may events so you can get to know them. We as students can also take part in the activities they have.
Clubs and Activities There is a club for everyone. IF you want to start a club you can. The only thing you need is a sponsor.
Great for these types of students Library- For students that like to read and so research Organization- People who like to get involved and be apart of a group. Sorority life- If you like to do community service and party. Sports- If you like attention and people looking at you. Home- If you don't like to give school your all and do your school work but still have fun.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Campus is fun. There is always people willing to entertain their schoolmates. There are people that walk around campus dressed as crazy things. One times I saw Barney and the red power ranger. I also saw a Giant gorilla. That was creepy.
Bang for the buck You should attend at least: One house party and a party at a club. Got to one game of each sporting event, live on campus, go to the library, attend a cookout that's on campus, give away a meal swipe, ask for a meal swipe, and pull an all nighter because of studying. Last but not least.. DO M A S T E R PLAN!! and get involved. !! (There is more..!!) You have to come and see or yourself :)
What to do for fun There are many events that take place on campus. From the day the students arrive to the week we leave. There many opportunities to join clubs and groups you see yourself being a part of.
Food and Dining The food is alright. This fall 2012 we are supposed to get a panda express and Starbucks! We also have a subway and down the road there is McDonald's, Taco-bell, sonic and things in that area.
Dorm Life Dorms a great place. If we are not out doing work this is the place we do it the most. They have study rooms in most dorm rooms. The largest dorm on campus is Pearce Ford Tower. It has 27 floors and on the 27Th there is a game room and it consists of 2 places to watch Tv, 2 pool tables, 2 ping-pong tables and fuse ball. Also they have a study room on the other side of the game room.
Academic Rigor Most teachers are willing to help us with work. Thus there are a handful of teachers that just don't care, all they do is lecture and give test. That's probably in other colleges as well.
Tips for prospective students If you plan on attending the University bring your hiking shoes. They don't call us the Hilltoppers for nothing.
In three sentences I give Western Kentucky University a 8.5 on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the highest. This is a great school with a beautiful campus. Most of the teachers are great and are willing to help a student out.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I do believe Western is a safe campus. There are always university PD patrolling and they even ride bicycles through campus. We have an escort service that you can call if you feel unsafe walking to your dorm at night.
Greek Life Western is very fond of Greek life here on campus. We have numerous Fraternity and Sorority organizations. Joining a sorority was one of the best decisions I made freshman year. I made lasting friendships and memories that I otherwise would not have had.
Clubs and Activities There are clubs for everything you could be interested in. From inter-mural sports to theater, there is something for everyone.
Great for these types of students Western is great for any student who is looking to further their education. We have one of the top journalism programs in the country as well.
Bang for the buck Western is definitely an affordable college.
What to do for fun Bowling Green is a good size city and there is always plenty to do. There are also several organizations you can join on campus.
Food and Dining I could not ask for better dining services than what you will find on Western's campus.
Dorm Life Most of the dorms have been renovated in the last 5 or so years. They are located conveniently across campus.
Academic Rigor Western has very good academics. College is not suppose to be easy and the classes are challenging. Nothing is impossible.
Tips for prospective students Be ready to get in your exercise. Western's mascot isn't the Hilltopper for no reason.

Dorm Life I wouldn't know about dorm life because I have never lived on campus here. I was a transfer junior and got to live off campus right away.
Academic Rigor Courses are challenging but not too hard. They are in the right categories and levels so you won't be surprised after choosing something.

What to do for fun Study.......... No fun in college
Food and Dining Food is good, not the best but i love hanging out with friends and eating at DUC. Need more options though, not enough places to pick from.
Dorm Life It is so much fun living in a dorm. But by time your second year is done you are wanting to be done. So i am looking for apartment.
Academic Rigor It is great, especially on the education side. But once again i would do better in class if it was with an english speaking professor
Tips for prospective students Pick your major wisely and dont party or drink all the time, because it is bad for your mental health.

Food and Dining Food and Dining is great at Western. They have tons of different restaurants to choose from. Anything from fast food like Papa Johns to home style cooking is available there.

Categories Comments Campus Safety WKU has campus police that secure the campus 24/7. Whether the police are riding around or even walking, they make sure that we live in a safe environment. There are also emergency police stands located all around campus. All u have to do is push the button that's located on the stand & someone will assist you immediately.
Greek Life WKU has a very strong Greek Life on campus. Containing a variety of Fraternities & Sororities, WKU has created many different options if one is interested in pledging. Our Greeks are very active on campus. With activities ranging from Cook-Outs, Step Shows, Fashion Shows & who can forget the Greek Parties.
Clubs and Activities WKU also offers a variety of different clubs and sports for us students. The Chess Club, The Football Team, The Dance Team, The Asian Cultures Club, Fraternities & Sororities, etc. You also have the opportunity to create your own club.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus One tradition that i absolutely love about WKU is how this school & its students, love our mascot. The Hill Topper this big friendly mascot is always loving & social to the max. We all love our hill topper. WKU also contains Frat parties, Step shows & Probates. & many other traditions on campus. One location on campus that everyone goes to hang out is known as PFT. This is a Co-ed Dorm with 24hr visitation. Almost every night, you can find students hanging out in front of PFT. This dorm is open to anyone who wants to live there.
Bang for the buck WKU's Tuition and Fees are very normal for a university. Ranging from 12 - 14k this is pretty cheap for such a beautiful school. They definitely do not play with ones money either. The dorms are also pretty cheap ranging from 1,890 - 2,117
What to do for fun The City that WKU is located in is known for being a College Town. Every single weekend there are so many parties to unwind at. Whether you listen to Country Music, Rock & Roll, Hard Metal, Rap or Alternative, The city of Bowling Green has a club specifically dedicated to these Music Genres. This school is definitely known for being a Party School. Bowling Green also offers several malls, movie theaters, bowling alleys, etc.
Food and Dining I absolutely love the food here. We have numerous amounts of restaurants just minutes away from the dorms. Such as, Papa Johns, Subway, Pop Eyes Chicken, Chick-Fil- A, Red Zone, etc. WKU also offers Meal Plans & Meal Plan Dollars. For example, I have 12 meal plans that renew themselves weekly & 250 Meal Plan Dollars that I receive at the beginning of every semester. You have the opportunity to choose your own Meal Plan options for food. WKU also offers to convenient store right on campus. These stores contain different frozen and dry foods that one may need to fill up their refrigerator. You can purchase things items with your Meal Plan Dollars. The city that WKU is located in is known as Bowling Green, Ky. Bowling Green is best know for containing 386 restaurants within the city. Applebees, Buffalo Wild Wings, Logan's, Cracker Barrel, etc. You name it, Bowling Green has it.
Dorm Life The dorms are so fun & unique. At least once a week, the dorms share different activities with us students in the lobby. The people are always so friendly and social in the dorm that I am in. Also, the dorms are conveniently located right beside DUCK which all the food is located, The Health Services Clinic, Preston, which is out prestigious Gym, if you ever wanna burn a few calories, & Mass Media which is our computer & other activities lab.
Academic Rigor Though you may face an intense course, the faulty members at this school will make sure that you understand the topic and that you accomplish the course with a satisfying score.
Tips for prospective students Yes, this is College but your books come first. Never forget why you went to College. Study to your very best abilities and always remind yourself that though you will endure plenty of stress in school, remember that every difficult obstacle can be conquered.
In three sentences I love WKU. Western Kentucky University is a magnificent school with faculty members dedicated to making sure that us students succeed. This School is definitely preparing me to excel & achieve all of my dreams.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have never had any problems on campus with crime. I feel very safe walking around campus.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs and activities for any sort of student to join and they cover a broad expanse of interests.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Many people believe our mascot is a big red blob, but he is actually the top of the hill since WKU is home of the Hilltoppers.
What to do for fun The student center in the middle of campus has pool, arcade games, and bowling. The exercise facilities are amazing and there are always many fun clubs and organizations to join!
Food and Dining In the times that I've eaten on campus, I've never had a bad meal!
Dorm Life I can't really say much about this since I am a commuter, but I have friends who speak very highly of dorm life especially if you request a roommate.
Academic Rigor For those of you who really want to be pushed, join the Honors College program!
Tips for prospective students Commuter parking can be a pain, so heads up if that applies to you. Don't be afraid to participate, many professors love participation and it makes class much better.
In three sentences The chemistry department is full of very caring and helpful faculty who truly wish to see you succeed. The campus is beautiful and if you don't mind a walk up a hill, not bad to navigate. WKU is just all around wonderful!

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are emergency stations and on patrol officers everywhere on campus. The officers will even drive you where you need to go at night if you call them and are kind of freaked out.
Greek Life Western is HUGE on Greek life. There are tons of sororities and fraternities that always have big events.
Clubs and Activities I don't participate in any clubs but I know Western is full of outside activities and clubs that look enjoyable and fun.
Great for these types of students Western is great for students who love to make friends and won;t get overwhelmed by how big the campus is.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The whole planking ordeal started on Western's campus when a boy got suspended for planking on a statue.
Bang for the buck Western seems a little pricey, but if you don't live near the campus the services they provide are worth the money.
What to do for fun I usually just hang out on campus or go to one of my friends dorms.
Food and Dining Western has a cafeteria with foods like Subway, Chick fil A, and the Red Zone. They also have a huge buffet cafeteria with many choices in variety.
Dorm Life The dorms are fairly clean and are leanient on guest but do have a policy expected to be followed.
Academic Rigor The classes are fairly small and you have much variety in teachers and scheduling.
Tips for prospective students You will meet many new friends at Western but it may be a little overwhelming because of how big the campus is.
In three sentences Western has a great learning atmosphere. They have small classes and great staff. They also provide every service you could imagine.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students I think WKU is great for business students and students who want to become teachers. WKU has one of the best teaching programs in the country. It's also a great school for nursing. I have several friends in nursing and they say it's extremely competitive, but it's one of the best programs around. Personally, I am a business major and I have loved all of my business related classes so far. I have learned quite a bit and if you are thinking about majoring in anything business related I strongly recommend WKU.
Tips for prospective students Don't get too crazy! I have seen so many students, some of my friends included, that get a little taste of freedom by being out on their own and they just go nuts. They party too much and seem to completely forget why they are paying thousands of dollars to go to school. Yes it's important to have fun, but you have to keep your priorities straight. Get your homework out of the way, study a little bit, and then go have fun with your friends. You will be glad you did at the end of the semester when you have that high GPA!
Bang for the buck College is really expensive no matter where you go. WKU just raised their tuition but I believe its worth every penny. Not just for the education but also the life lessons and personal experiences you will have. As far as education goes, I can't imagine another school being much better than Western. I am learning so much in my classes and I truly believe WKU is just as good as high profile schools like Louisville and the University of Kentucky.
Am enjoying being here I looked at several different colleges in high school. Once I decided on WKU, I was nervous that maybe I had made the wrong decision. It only took a week on campus for me to realize that I had made the best choice and I instantly fell in love with it. I made a lot of friends very quickly and have had some of the best times of my life, and hopefully there are many more memories to be made. I LOVE WKU!
Am learning a lot Western Kentucky has taught me a lot so far. Not just in my classes, but also who I am as a person. There is just something special about this school. The professors are great and seem to really care about their students success in and out of the classroom. I have made friends with multiple professors and still keep in contact with them even though I'm not longer in their class. The most interesting thing to me is that I'm taking a lot of classes that are completely different from each other, but they all seem to be connected somehow. They are like pieces of a puzzle, and once you put them all together, you really start to see the big picture.

Tips for prospective students You have a choice of Having fun, Studying and getting good grades, or Sleeping. And you can only pick two! I suggest the Studying! I know that it's going to be harder than college, but I look forward to the challenge.
Bang for the buck I know that it costs a lot, but it's less than Harvard or somewhere else. I know that I will get a quality education that will get me far in the world from WKU.
Will enjoy being here I know that I will enjoy being close to home, and I love the campus already because I have been on multiple field trips, as well as having spent a week there during FEA camp. I love the campus. It's so beautiful.
Will learn a lot I really look forward to attending! I hope to live on campus, but I need to have lots of financial aid to do that.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Don't cruise through General Ed. classes. The more you know of English, History, Geography, Psychology, Sociology, and other cultures, the more well-rounded you will be in your chosen field of work. The most important class you can take is English: being able to express yourself and write with confidence and good grammar.
Tips for prospective students At home research of the topics in lectures are a big plus, and daily study is a must. Never wait for last few days to study for any test, particularly a Final Exam.
Bang for the buck My classes are free - I pay for books only. I'm past 65 years old.
Am enjoying being here I take these classes for their enjoyment, self-discipline in study, and the knowledge I may gain.
Am learning a lot Each class was very interesting. Good grades are within easy reach if a student wants to apply himself or herself - at home research of the topics in lectures are a big plus, and daily study is a must. Never wait for last few days to study for any test, particularly a Final Exam.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This school's motto is The Spirit Makes the Master. By coming here you will truly feel that. To achieve any goal you have to be on top of your game. If you're adventurous and love to learn new things or tend to stay on the studious side and be involved WKU is the school for you.
Tips for prospective students The one tip I got when I was coming here was: Whatever choices you make in life will reflect you for the rest of your life. With that I took the initiative to not just be another face in the crowd, but to make my presence known. By getting involved and being around your peers, your time here goes by in an instant. Enjoy your time as a college student, but be smart about your choices. It is a timely process being away from home and getting used to a new communtity. But as that time comes towards your last year and you see the impact you had on others, you will feel great about yourself for making a change while in college.
Bang for the buck True enough WKU does not play around when it comes to the different costs, but best believe all the money taken makes a difference in the end to not only you, but to other students looking for future here on the Hill!
Am enjoying being here Being from Louisville it was a tough transition coming here to Bowling Green, but as I got more involved and met new and exciting people I opened up more and expanded my thoughts and values on being here. My experience here has been worthwhile and I wouldn't change it for anything.
Am learning a lot Out of my three years here I have grown to learn so many different things in my classes. My professors have always been a big help in making their class easier. And in the different majors here you will experience that as well. From taking a foreign language in Swahili to learning more about Shakespeare in Theatre History, I am always eager to know what I will learn next as my time here progresses.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Enjoy College Do all your work Study when you can Get a schedule that is compatible with you Expect to get a work out every morning walking the hill to class
Bang for the buck It's a pricy school but with the TIP program its a little more affordable. I am 4 hours away and I want to be sure I get my money worth and so far I am. Don't forget you are paying for school so do you best in all classes or you're wasting money
Am enjoying being here I love being on campus. Living in the dorms make you be more involved on campus and meet new people. I think the people on campus makes the school enjoyable. The campus is also not as big as UK or UofL so a lot of people know each other which makes you feel safe and more like a family.
Am learning a lot I am a 2nd year attendee at Wku and so far I have learned a lot. Most of my professors have challenged me and others have gotten on my nerves. When you choose a college, you should be ready to expand your mind and look into different aspects of the world. I would recommend any student to take at least one class from a African American Professor because not only do they care more about you but they push you to a limit. Also there are few African American teachers there so I consider it a privilege to have them as a teacher.

Tips for prospective students Log onto profeval.com to check out your professors; it really helps when deciding what classes to take. Also try and make a schedule before going to register for classes; it makes the whole process a lot simpler. Branch out and try to meet new people especially get to know the people in your residence hall.
Bang for the buck Tuition is little pricy but there are several scholarships available to help with the cost.
Will enjoy being here Western is located in Bowling Green, KY. Although Bowling Green doesn't have much, it has more than most surrounding cities. With a mall, mini golf, two movie theaters, bowling, amazing local restaurants, etc... you will never be bored. If you ever get bored WKU is just a short hour drive from Nashville, TN. I love the feeling on campus and there is never a dull moment.
Will learn a lot I have several friends that attend Western and love going there. Although I haven't attended any classes yet, all the professors I have met seem very nice and willing to help. While some classes may be challenging, the knowledge gained will be worth it in the end.

Tips for prospective students If you are thinking about coming to Western, think no more! Western is the school for you if you come with a positive attitude, a willingness to learn and the drive it takes to achieve success in whatever you want to do.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students that like to get involved, want to succeed in their academic career, and are willing to work hard will have no trouble in choosing WKU.
Tips for prospective students Go to class, and prioritize your time. I have noticed a significant drop in the population of my fellow freshman in my second semester. Those who chose not to go to class and did not manage their time wisely are no longer here.
Bang for the buck Western has more free events than any other school I know about. The tuition is about average for a major university.
Am enjoying being here I've spent time at EKU, and UK; I prefer WKU by far. It has a beautiful campus, and everything is compact/convenient. There is always something going on organized by the school or the active students that attend it.
Am learning a lot All of the teachers I've had really know what they're talking about. This is the most valuable quality with any teacher. They are skilled educators that will help you to reach your potential to the best of their abilities. However you have to go to class to expect to learn and do well.

Tips for prospective students Consider your choices carefully. Consider how homesick you may get. Look at the extracurricular activities, do any interest you? Do NOT pick a school simply because your friends choose it. Times will be hard at times, but things will get better. Just keep your head up. ALWAYS believe in yourself!
Bang for the buck The teachers are willing to work with you so that you are understanding their lectures and assignments. Plenty of opportunities to get necessary help with homework, papers, etc. Campus is gorgeous. Very unified student body.
Am enjoying being here If you're looking for a university full of spirit and compassion this is definitely one to consider. WKU is a melting pot overflowing with acceptance and rare talent. The students here are happy. They know they can be their selves without judgement because they know they are safe here. The campus is beautiful and homey, making it hard to get homesick. There are plenty of opportunities to meet new, life-long friends!

Tips for prospective students Go to class. Everybody says that. But I swear, I screwed up my whole first semester by not going. I got a .17 GPA and barely passed 1 of my 6 classes. I had to work really hard to get out of academic probation and am now a fourth semester freshman. So seriously go to class.
Bang for the buck Tuition is pretty good compared to other schools. Room, board and the meal plans are pretty in expensive and everything is set up well and easily accessible.
Am enjoying being here The landscaping is beautiful and everyone is typically very nice but I do hate being so far away from home, but that being the case it allows me to expand my horizons and learn more about myself than I would if I had stayed home and went to a local college.
Am learning a lot I love the professor's here. They all seem to want to connect personally and figure out the easiest way to get their point across to every student.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Pretty much everyone. Come one, come all.
Tips for prospective students - Attend class. While it is easy to just sleep in and not attend class, it's probably not the wisest decision. You miss out on not only a lecture that contained information for your next tests, but also any extra credit opportunities (yes, we still have those in college) and homework assignments. - Find a good group of friends. If you are coming from a far distance and don't know a single person, don't worry. There is a social group that fits anyone and everyone's personal interests. - Study. Trust me, the test here are not like the ones in high school. They're not the tests that you could just take without even so much as looking over your notes. It is very wise to study for your tests.
Bang for the buck I would say that the tuition at Western is pretty average compared to other colleges. And again, you do get a quality education.
Am enjoying being here As a local, WKU seemed like settling. When deciding on a college, one of the main goals is to get out of your hometown, right? WKU is a great school with good professors, tons of social activities, and a beautiful scenery. What's not to love about Western Kentucky University?
Am learning a lot As a high schooler, you constantly hear College is hard or Don't expect to be babied/pampered in college like you are in high school. These statements leave you questioning are you really going to make in in college, more importantly, through college? Sure you might have slacked off in high school and you might not have necessarily had to study for that big test, but rest assured, you will make it. Here at Western, we have an impressive faculty and staff that are always there to help you in whatever you need. They are very willing to sit down and take time out of their busy schedule to address any problem or struggle you may have. Their main goal is to do whatever they can to help you succeed; to prepare you for the real world. And on top of that, they are very well prepared in the subject that they are teaching. While Western Kentucky University may not be an ivy league school, you still have many opportunities to get the same education you might have gotten at an ivy league school.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Try to get into any dorm other than PFT. Look into the university's Living and Learning Communities! Get involved in clubs, organizations, and groups (i.e. bible study!) Be open to having different types of friends - its college! Have FUN but remember what you're there for - an education :)
Bang for the buck I believe that this school is worth the money. If living on campus, I'd suggest anything but PFT (Peirce Ford Tower) or anything on the opposite end of campus. Try to get into Northwest, Southeast, or anything toward the middle of campus as the dorms close to PFT give you a hike to class! I would also suggest applying to as many scholarships through the school as you can - it doesn't hurt to try!
Am enjoying being here Being an hour and a half away from home and friends made the first couple of weeks tough at WKU. I would suggest you requesting a room mate though, as I didn't have any luck with the girl I roomed with my first month. I now have a really fun roommate who shares the same major as me so we get along great! I also suggest getting in with clubs or organizations. I didn't look for a church group/ bible study until my second semester but if I had known about RUF my first semester, I would've got involved that much sooner.
Am learning a lot As a returning sophomore, I feel that my freshman year was a big learning experience at WKU. Both in and out of the classroom I began to see my world differently and have learned a lot with the 29 course hours I have under my belt. This semester I am taking Anatomy and Physiology so I'm confident that the education I am receiving at Western will benefit me in earning my Bachelor's Degree in Dental Hygiene.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students American, international, focused, social, adventurous, ambitious....there's really something for everyone on campus.
Tips for prospective students Visit WKU and look into the college for yourself, and this goes for any university you think you are interested in. Think about what interests you and see how well fits into any school's program. Once you step foot onto the campus, look into different clubs and organizations that pique your curiosity. Through those groups you will meet some of the best friends you will ever have, and this is important when starting this next chapter of your life.
Bang for the buck Every penny is worth the education here. You can be sure that not only will you graduate feeling more confident about the knowledge you gained, but you will come away with life-altering experiences that will allow you to grow as an individual. WKU strongly supports study abroad and is always encouraging students to choose from hundreds of programs that will allow them to travel the world, while they obtain a few credit hours. There is even thousands of dollars in scholarship money available to help in several of these opportunities.
Am enjoying being here WKU has a wide range of activities, organizations, and clubs to keep you interested throughout the year. Christian organizations to the performing arts groups to athletic clubs to Greek communities, you will be sure to find something that interests you enough to get involved immediately.
Am learning a lot The faculty at WKU are highly skilled and most are personable with their students. It's obvious that they want to share their knowledge and they do this on a personal level by encouraging in-class discussions and questions. They let you know on the first day of classes of the easiest way to reach them, should you need anything throughout the semester. Then they make sure to respond to your calls or emails so all of your questions will be answered. Many times they suggest meeting one-on-one during an office appointment, so you can go over all your inquiries.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Western Kentucky has an several award winning programs that students can look into. One big thing that makes Western so unique is the emphasis that they put on International Reach. They offer a great opportunity for students of other countries to attend the university and also introduce a Study Abroad program for those interested in traveling outside the United States.
Tips for prospective students Its best to see the university first-hand. The only way to really get a feel for it all is to schedule a visit and take part in one of the many tours that are offered by the students of Western Leaders. The website is also very helpful in seeing what all the university has to offer. Either of these options would be helpful for students interested in attending.
Bang for the buck Although the tuition is a bit high, I feel like the price is worth it. Advisers are very helpful in starting students off properly. Students are made aware of their General Education requirements and are informed of the prerequisites they need to obtain in order to reach administration into the desired Major. With this great assistance, along-side an overall comforting and enjoyable environment, the price is definitely worth it.
Am enjoying being here I think that living in the dorms for the first two years made the college experience. You slowly form a bond with people that you are living with and therefore build onto the social life that you work towards. It definitely makes the overall experience more enjoyable for students if they get involved.
Am learning a lot I am going into my second year at WKU and I feel that I have already noticed a big difference in how I think about certain topics. The majority of my professors have opened up my eyes to certain topics that never really crossed my mind in high school. Because of this quality education I began to feel a higher sense of maturity which is a big part of the first year in college. The professors seem to take a big interest in their students in making sure that they attend class and work towards bettering themselves as a student.
