    Campus Safety

I feel very safe while I am at Wilkes. They have the Sheriff's Department and the Wilkesboro Police department making rounds through the campus quite often on top of Wilkes Communities Campus Security making rounds around the campus throughout the day.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many clubs at Wilkes who are involved in the community.

    Bang for the buck

For the education that one receives at Wilkes, the price is not bad at all! It is quite cheap as a matter of fact.

    What to do for fun

Me and my friends go to W. Kerr Scott Dam and Reservoir a lot to hang out. We like to go fishing there and just hang out. We just go and drive around a lot and take random roads and see where it takes us, it is so much fun! We have drove to Rendezvous Mountain. We go out to eat a lot and we like to try places like Glenn's which is a cafe type restaurant where supposedly Dolly Parton has came and ate. We have a commons room where a lot of people tend to hang out at. Occasionally we will go and work out in their gym. When Merlefest comes to Wilkes students love to come to it. There truly is a lot of things to do around and at Wilkes Community for fun.

    Food and Dining

Wilkes has a Cafe with really great food! Also the people who work their are super nice!

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms at Wilkes.

    Academic Rigor

Every teacher expects you to work to your potential. The teachers are not all about assigning homework and making you do it just so you can get a degree, but they are truly there to help you understand the subjects and help you use it in your own life.

    Tips for prospective students

Although Wilkes is a Community College they still expect a lot out of their students. Always try your hardest and do your best and you will see how hard work pays off in the end with a good education.

    In three sentences

Wilkes Community College is a hometown community college that has the atmosphere of a place of higher education, but one can also feel close to home and feel the strong ties that it has to the community of Wilkes. I have thoroughly enjoyed my first year at Wilkes because of this. Wilkes also believes in providing a quality education and that is why they have some of the best teachers in the world who make class and different subjects enjoyable and fun.

    Tips for prospective students

If you're planning on transferring to a four year university, make sure you visit CTAC before registering for classes, as some of those classes that sound fun will not transfer to universities such as Appalachian State University, UNC-Greensboro, or UNC-Wilmington.

Great for these types of students

    - People willing to drive - Self-motivated - Disciplined

    Tips for prospective students

Meet with an advisor, and don't be afraid to talk to people. A lot of information is available on their website but a lot is not. Staff and instructors are very approachable and willing to guide you in your path to college success. This may not apply to many, but WCC DOES NOT currently accept college credit from non-US schools.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition and fees for in-state students for a semester is capped at $1124 as of Fall 2011. This should be the same for all community colleges, and is great value. This considers 16 credit hours of classes, but you can add more and not be charged extra - however, be aware of the extra workload.

    Am enjoying being here

WCC is set in a rural area close to Wilkesboro, NC. There is ample parking for students, staff and those who need Handicap spaces. There are many areas of the school where you can study independently between classes such as the Library and Open Computer Lab where there is an English teacher there to help writing papers.

    Am learning a lot

Wilkes has a diversity of programs with wide range of levels, from developmental classes up to second year college classes they have it. WCC also has many of their classes as either online-only, or 1/2 classroom 1/2 online (hybrid) classes which eases scheduling for those with a heavy course load.
