Winston-Salem State University is an Historically Black College and University and a public constituent institution of the University of North Carolina. WSSU is the country’s only HBCU to  offer a Motorsports Management degree and its Department of Rehabilitation Counseling is the only such program to serve deaf and hard of hearing students. In addition to academic facilities, the university is home to the Diggs Gallery which houses contemporary African-American and African art. For sports fans, WSSU hosts 10 men’s and women’s athletic teams and a co-ed cheerleading squad.
