Am learning a lot
I would honestly say that I am learning a lot of new things at AAMU. I came here thinking that college was going to be extremely hard and that I would fail. But in reality I have had the best classes and very helpful teachers. This is my second semester here and I am very excited about my new classes.
Am enjoying being here
I really love my school! Although the campus is small for a University it is very nice and historical. The people here are very helpful with the transition from high school to college. I love the activities there are on campus, there are so many things to do on campus its overwhelming. I am really getting the college experience.
Bang for the buck
AAMU is actually an inexpensive school and people get what they need from this school. I am an in-state student and my tuition is under 13,000 this year. Out of state students have told me that this was a wise choice financial for them.
Tips for prospective students
Students who are thinking about coming here should definitely come to the High School Senior Day. This day is set aside for any high school senior that is interested in attending AAMU. I went and it really helped me lock in my decision about this school. The students get to eat free, get a detailed tour of the campus, and get to watch a free football game. It is really exciting!
Great for these types of students
Students who enjoy historical features should consider AAMU.The school is very historical and it makes you feel enriched with knowledge. Also, any student who wants to succeed academically would love AAMU because of the classes and the support they get. Students who love to have a good time would fit in perfectly here, there is always something fun going on.

Academics in my opinion is the crown Jewel of AAMU. Your teachers will make sure you understand what they are teaching and will also help you understand. Class size on average is about twenty people but you will from time to time get classes with six people or even over thirty. There's study areas located throughout campus so its fairly easy to find a quiet area if you prefer not to study in your dorm.
Am enjoying being here
Complete honesty in my review, I did not enjoy my first semester here because I was one of those people who liked to keep to myself and my group of friends. Key to enjoying your time is networking, go to every single campus event, study in the library, and develop relationships with your teachers. The athletics can be a little, hard to watch at times but things are what you make them out to be.
Bang for the buck
AAMU is the least expensive University in the State of Alabama and is definitely worth the price. Because of the schools size there are also many ways to obtain scholarships if you take the time to look for them. Also Huntsville by far is also becoming one of the top cities in Alabama due to all the economic growth and having Redstone Arsenal. AAMU is worth every penny if your looking for a school you wont be struggling to pay for.
Tips for prospective students
This school is not and has never been known for its vibrant student life so it is up to you to become involved. Make sure to get involved with two or three organizations your first semester because that will help you meet people and build your network. Having good friends is a key to success at AAMU. There are no real campus stores and communication of events can be non existent sometimes so trust me friends will greatly improve your time here. AAMU is fairly small so teachers will know your personally and the people around you will know your face.
Great for these types of students
I will be completely honest to everyone reading this review. If you are looking for an exciting college experience where you meet many people this school is not for you. If your going to college for the sole purpose of learning and improving yourself AAMU is for you. This is a historically black university so expect not to have the best of everything given to you. Its up to you as a person to make the best out of everything.

The University has a lot of different resources on campus and off campus that are near. The professors really know their stuff and enjoy teaching the students. I have learned a variety of things from attending this university, educational and non-educational.
Am enjoying being here
Its great on campus and I love being here. I would not trade universities for nothing in the world. There is always something to do on campus. If you are not studying then you could always go to the greasy spoon and get a bit to eat and upstairs to the student center to see whats popping on campus.
Bang for the buck
AAMU is not a very expensive school and every penny you pay to attend AAMU is worth it. There are lots of scholarships and grant opportunities available for students who attend or plan on attending AAMU. You just have to meet and talk to the right people. For example, any students who plan on having a career in the medical field can join this organization called HCOP and receive free MCAT,PCAT, and DCAT exams tutoring as well as a $2000 scholarship for the fall.
Tips for prospective students
If you attend AAMU get involved in at least one of the many organizations or sports teams on campus, establish relationships with your teachers, and have fun. Also remember to have good time management skills or you can fall behind or off the success train. Also talk to financial aid about working on campus with either work study or bi-weekly.
Great for these types of students
AAMU is great for all students and anyone who comes to this university will fall in love with it and its history.

Am learning a lot
I have learned a lot at Alabama A&M. The professors that I have are very concerned with the student's ability to be able to learn, and they are always willing to help students out. There is no reason why a student should not be able to gain a knowledgeable learning experience unless they do not attempt to try to learn.
Am enjoying being here
For the most part, I enjoy the A&M campus. I don't really hang out much because I'm usually in my room doing my work. I really enjoy my classes though.
Bang for the buck
The price to attend A&M isn't too pricey compared to most universities.
Tips for prospective students
If you have A&M on your list, be sure to visit so that you can check out the atmosphere. Just be prepared to attend school for work, and don't get distracted!
Great for these types of students
People that like socializing and getting to know new people.

AAMU is a great institution where students come first. The teachers care about us and were not just a number. When I have kids my kids will attend this great University.
Tips for prospective students
Make sure you get involved with campus activities and organizations. Also make sure to network while you are here.
Academic Rigor
The academia here at AAMU is not to hard, but it does prepare you for work life and graduate school.
Dorm Life
Dorm life is great. I recommend staying in a traditional dorm your freshmen year. You build bonds that last a life time.
Food and Dining
The food is ok, by the end of the year everything tends to be the same, but I am no one to complain food is food.
What to do for fun
There are a lot of intramural activities that you can take part on campus from horse-back riding to fishing to tournament football and basketball.
Bang for the buck
The bowling center in our Wellness Center is great. It is very inexpensive and some days its only a dollar.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
The candlelight ceremony for the freshmen class is a tradition rich here at Alabama A&M University. It makes you feel as you are now apart of the University.
Great for these types of students
If you are always wanting something to do and always want to be involved with campus activities you should definitely join SGA.
Clubs and Activities
There is a club for anyone on campus. All you have to do is look.
Greek Life
We have some of the best Divine Nine Organizations here on the YARD. From The Alphas to the AKA's.
Campus Safety
With our new Police Chief our campus has taken campus safety to a new level from Police SUV's to a fleet of new officers.

Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University is a great HBCU to attend. This institution is very diverse with students coming from all around the world. You will meet a ton of great people here.
Tips for prospective students
Come to college with an open mind and remeber the reason why you came to college. A lot of students forget their priorites/ set them to the side, and end up not doing well at this institution. Always have a buddy with you after the sun goes down and make sure you do not get into the car with someone you do not know.
Academic Rigor
The work is not hard at all. Instructors here will try their best to help out, and if you don't understand what is being taught, A&M offfers tutors available in every subject. You just have to make sure that you are dedicated to the work. As soon as you get an assignment, try to complete it as soon as possible. It is so easy to put it off and then you forget about the assignment which puts you in a hole.
Dorm Life
The dorms arre okay. The best two dorms on campus are Knight and Foster. They both have dining halls in them. All dorms on campus are either all female or all male and all of the female dorms are located on one side of the campus while the male dorms are on the opposite side of the campus. There is visitation where the opposite gender can visit up until a certain hour, but it is almost always taken away. The rooms in the traditional dorms are smaller than other school's traditional dorms. The suite-style dorms are four to a suite (two to a room w/ a bathroom in each room) with a common area. There are no toasters, coffee pots, nor hot plates allowed. The only appliances the suties come with are a microwave and a refrigerator that is shared among the four persons living in the suite.
Food and Dining
The food is okay. It is not the best but it is not the worst. The best meal is breakfast. Lunch is okay and dinner is okay. There is a salad bar, a deli station, a pizza station, a grill station (hamburgers, fries, chicken sandwiches, etc.), and a zone station (home cooked meals). There is also a fast food resturant ran by the school, The Greasy Spoon 2, which sells wings, burgers, fries, and hot dogs. Their food is pretty good but a bit greasy.
What to do for fun
There is nothing within walking distance of the campus to do, so it would really be a great idea to bring a car. Most students usually hang out on the quad. Welcome Week, Homecoming week, and ESW (Every Sunny Wednesday) are all fun. The football games are fun as well.
Bang for the buck
Studying at this institution is really worth the time and the money. Faculty and staff make sure that you are prepared for jobs after graduation. There are so many insternships and co-op opportunties available (especially for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics majors).
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
There is the Block where all of the Greek stones are. There is the founding president and his wife's grave located on the campus. There is also the Magic City Classic, which is held in Birmingham, Alabama the fourth weekend in October against the rival school, Alabama State University. This is the biggest HBCU game of the season.
Great for these types of students
Alabama A&M is great for Agricultural, Food Science, Engineering, Science, Technology, and Mathematics majors. There are so many opportunities available for these disciplines.
Clubs and Activities
There are a lot of Student Organizations present at this university. Anything you can think of, we have it. If there is an organization that you woud like to create, you can fill out the paper work to become a Registered Student Organization.
Greek Life
The Divine 9 is present on campus plus a lot of social fraternities.
Campus Safety
Our campus security are all certified police officers for Madison County. They try their best to protect the students by any means. The only ththe campus thing I dont like about the safety of the campus is that anyone can walk into the dorms.

This school is for young people wanting to study hard and having a relaxing experience at the same time. There is always something going on. If you are the big city type used to 24 hours entertainment, this school is definitely NOT for you.
Tips for prospective students
Take your time making new friends. Use your social media networks, if needed, to help you navigate around campus and classrooms.
Academic Rigor
The classrooms are small and there is plenty of interaction between the professor and the students. The University uses Blackboard, which makes it easier to review classroom material on your own time.

Dorm Life
Other than the weekend the air conditioners weren't working, the dorms are great. The RA has activities scheduled weekly for meet and greet. I'm lucky because the cafeteria and student center are also located in my dorm complex.
Food and Dining
Not quite just like home, but pretty close. Fried chicken is a staple for lunch and dinner. We always have choices of pasta, salads, pizzas, hamburgers and other items. With your meal card, you can eat as much as you want.
What to do for fun
We usually hangout on the Quad since most freshmen do not have cars.
Bang for the buck
You have the opportunity to meet many people from different background. There is always something going on.

I'm really getting a quality education for less money than most of my friends who chose larger institutions.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
There is a tomb, located outside the old cafeteria, of the founder of the school, William Hooper Councill, and his wife.

From orientation, we learned that Mr. Councill was sold as a slave on the spot in which he was buried.
Great for these types of students
Introverts looking for friends. The school sort of forces you to mingle and network with others.
Clubs and Activities
There is a lot of recruiting for clubs and activities on campus.
Greek Life
The Greeks on campus helped us to move all of our stuff in on move-in day. They performed a street show for us during our first week on campus.
Campus Safety
The school has 24 hour onsite campus police who are very visible. It is really a very safe place.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
Traditions on campus are the quad. Ceremonies, cookouts, and small gatherings are usually out there. Or you could relax with a significant other or friend on late nights after dormitory curfew.
Great for these types of students
The best thing for any type of students is to follow all of the rules, don't go anywhere alone, keep all of your documents in order, go to class on time, and have fun!
Clubs and Activities
Clubs and activities can be manageable with your class schedule. They require certain academic standards and behavioral standards. Some help you get internships and jobs or receive eligibility for scholarships.
Greek Life
Greek life isn't something I partake in but friends I have say it's fun. Especially if you're outgoing and love to meet new people.
Campus Safety
Police are always on the lookout for A&M's students. If it seems like someone is missing everyone will immediately know and the search will start. You can to set all of your electronic devices to receive alerts on weather and news that happens around campus. Even your parents can set up their electronic devices too.
