Am learning a lot
Arizona State was my top choice based on the wide spread of classes offered, the great education, and the world changing young men and woman that have prospered out of ASU. My classes are challenging but with hard work A's are capable. I no longer worry if my classes will teach me random information not needed for my life; for I know that all of my classes I take at ASU will only help prepare me for my future in Education. The professor's are intelligent, willing to help, and very fare.
Am enjoying being here
Living in the dorms my freshman year was the best decision I have made aside from attending Arizona State University. With a campus so big a car was never needed to always have something to do. With free samples of soda, energy drinks, clothes, and food I was upset when I did not find something free everyday! The beautiful Tempe Town Lake always provides concerts and beautiful scenery for students to freely enjoy. The brand new light rail also allows cheap and easy travels to down town Phoenix where you can enjoy baseball games or hockey games! My dorm was the nicest and cleanest dorm I have yet to see, and the community of my floor was great due to our Resident Assistant.
Bang for the buck
For instate students I believe that Arizona State is the finest education that you will be able to receive while in the region of Arizona. However, due to the recent increase in tuition it would make sense to me that out of state students look hard into options of schools they are able to attend, especially if money is not an issue. If these students decide that they love Arizona and what ASU has to offer, then Arizona State would be a great choice!
Tips for prospective students
Prospective Students take the following advice; do well on your SATS and ACTS for scholarships are not very hard to get at ASU, visit the campus, look into your majors program ( if no major has been decided pick a few you may enjoy and look into those), and live on campus!
Great for these types of students
ASU is a great place for all students. With so many people you will be able to find a community by getting involved and many other students will be in the same college as you. ASU is especially known for their Business College, while their Education and Engineering College are among the top in the Nation. Arizona State is not located in an outdoorsy environment, but students are able to hike ASU Mountain at any time! People who enjoy the city life will do great here. The desert is beautiful.

Am learning a lot
I am learning a lot- inside, as well as outside, of the classroom. You will learn something, of course, from any school you go to. ASU has a lot of great teachers and fantastic programs. It is a huge school, so it has a lot to offer. I think it is under appreciated and underrated sometimes, because people see it as a party school. Do people party here? Yes, but they party everywhere. If you are going to school to focus on your education, then ASU has a lot to offer.

Outside of the classroom, you can learn a lot from exploring. At the Tempe campus, you will be surrounded by so much. There is transportation all over, so you can get to multiple places. You can also walk around Mill or just walk around the campus. There is a lot to see. You might even learn something about yourself along the way.
Am enjoying being here
My first semester was tough, because I was only hanging out with a few people from high school and a few new people. Well, we all hung out together, and when things went bad with one person, I kind of lost everyone.

Second semester, though, I joined a community service sorority, and I met a ton of great girls. I love hanging out with the girls and working with them. So, my advice for trying to fit in at a new school is simple. Get involved! There are so many clubs at ASU, that you are bound to find something you like.
Bang for the buck
It's expensive, I'm not going to lie. I'm a resident, and it's still hard to afford everything. Like I said, though, there are a ton of great opportunities at ASU. There are lots of programs to get involved in, academically and socially. Plus, there are obviously a lot of teachers, aides, and counselors there to help you succeed.

So, I guess what I'm saying is that if you put yourself out there and find what you want to do and take the right classes, then it is going to be worth the money, because you are creating your future.
Tips for prospective students
Explore and try new things. Don't fall back into old habits. This is college, and it's the time to find yourself and try new things. Stay true to your beliefs and morals, but don't be afraid to get out there.
Great for these types of students
If you like people, this is the place for you. There's about 60,000 students or more at ASU.
If you like cities, this is the place for you. ASU Tempe is in the heart of downtown Tempe. You can also go to the Downtown campus or take the light rail to visit, and you'll be right next to the sport stadiums, theaters, and so much more.
If you want to learn, this is the place for you. As I said earlier, I have learned a lot- inside and outside of the classroom.

ASU has great programs and professors overall. As long as one attends class everyday, or most days, they will come out of the semester with more knowledge than imagined.
Am enjoying being here
One of the best parts about ASU is simply being at ASU, especially the Tempe (Main) Campus. There is always something going on, and the diverse population makes it even more interesting to meet and talk to new people everyday. Then, after a long hard day at school, nothing is more fun and exhilarating than attending a sporting event, especially Sun Devil Football.
Tips for prospective students
Do not be afraid. College is the place where one can easily come out of their shell. Especially at a diverse school, such as ASU, no on is here to judge. Be true to yourself, and you will fit right now. Moreover, go to as many school functions as possible. You will not regret it. As far as classes go, they are not impossible, you just have to keep focus and apply yourself. Don't slack off! It will come back to haunt you, especially at the end of the semester.
Great for these types of students
ASU is known best for their Business, Engineer, Education, and Journalism programs. So if anyone is trying to pursue careers in those fields, ASU should be one of your top choices. ASU's Kinesiology program is also ranked top 9 in the nation. The nursing school is also highly competitive and holds good rankings.

Arizona State University- Tempe is great for those who want a large university feel, with small classes if you choose. The pricing is good, and they offer lots of scholarships and financial aide, especially for in state. I really like how there are a lot of great resources, like free tutoring, to help students keep up.
Tips for prospective students
I would recommend living on campus until you are familiar with the school, and have made some friends. The dorms are overall very clean and fun to live in, my roommate is my best friend! The dorms also have their own study tools, and get-togethers to help students meet new people.
Academic Rigor
I think this depends on your major. However, this school is fair. I was a biochemistry major and the classes were hard, but doable. My professors and T.A.'s are very approachable and helpful. There are many tutoring opportunities as well as office hours available for help. Overall, the classes are fairly difficult, but if you utilize the tools at your disposal, you won't have any problem getting good grades.
Dorm Life
I love the dorms here! They are so close to everything and they help you to meet great people. The way they organize their dorms, you will be with people of similar majors so you can form study groups, and the dorms will be closest to your classes. In my dorm, Manzanita, as well as some others there are quiet study rooms you can use on each floor, an arcade, basketball courts, a dining hall, a front desk to help you 24/7, a lounge on each floor, and washers/dryers. Each room also comes with a mini fridge and microwave. I can walk to the UPS store from my dorm, as well as many restaurants, including some other dining halls, and a small market.
Food and Dining
When you first get to ASU, you will be overwhelmed with the dining selections. You can make a sandwich, pasta, burgers, pizza, salads, and so much more just in one dining hall. However, as the semester goes on, I started to get a bit tired of some of the food. But the good thing about ASU is that I can walk to other dining halls with different selections, or the MU which has many different restaurants, like Qdoba and Einstein Bros. You can use what is called M&G dollars (maroon and gold) to purchase things at the MU and some other places on campus. You automatically get a certain amount of M&G dollars on your suncard depending on what meal plan you go with.
What to do for fun
There are so many fun clubs you can join on campus. You can also play at some of the dorm amenities like an arcade, basketball courts, volleyball courts, tennis courts, and pools. There are a lot of places on a street called Mill Ave. which you can walk to and look at shops or eat there. You can also if you have a car, drive to downtown Phoenix or Castles N' Coasters or any of the other fun things around the area.
Bang for the buck
Like any school, ASU seems very expensive. However, they offer a lot of scholarships and financial aide. I am supposed to be paying over double what I actually do due to scholarships and an ASU need based job. The classes, like I mentioned, are fairly difficult, but manageable, and ASU has so much help if you ask for it.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
There is a place on campus called the secret garden which some students go to read or study in. In the beginning of each year, they bring buses to the dorms and will bring people to Target to buy anything they may have forgotten. They close down the Target early and have lights and music while your shopping, so it's actually pretty fun! During finals, your dorms will provide stress puppies so you can pet the puppies and be less stressed. They also have a lot of free food during move-in time and finals, so take advantage! Also during finals to help relieve stress and since the weather is too warm for snow, ASU brought in snow from Flagstaff so the students could drink complimentary hot chocolate, tea, and coffee while having a snow ball fight!
Great for these types of students
I think ASU is great for students who want to have all the benefits of a large college, including tutoring opportunities and help, clubs, and meeting people, while having small class sizes and a more individual feel. You can pick the kinds of classes you want, and the dorms make the school seem smaller.
Clubs and Activities
ASU has a club for almost anything you can imagine! This is one of the great things about going to a big school like ASU. Since there are so many people, if you have a certain interest, so do other people! If you don't find the club you want (which I haven't heard of) you can make the club.
Greek Life
I am not in Greek life, but my friend is and she loves it! We have many fraternities and sororities to choose from so during rush week, you will find one that works for you. Or, if you decide it's not your thing, there is no commitment when you rush. My roommate participated in rush week, but then decided she didn't want to be in a sorority so she didn't choose one, and it was very easy for her to say no. I would advise that if you are even the least bit interested to go and see if it might be for you. After all, that is one way to connect you to lifelong friends!
Campus Safety
ASU is very safe. Each dorm room has a lock, and only you and your roommates (and the front desk) have the key. Each dorm floor has at least two community advisers who can help you with anything. Each dorm also has a front desk with a phone to any place on campus. All along the sidewalks of ASU are emergency poles with a blue light. If you feel unsafe, you can press the button on the pole and be connected with emergency responders. If someone is chasing you, you can press the button and then run to the next, and they will follow your path to find you. ASU also has an app that has a map and can help you connect with ASU and Tempe police. You can also call the safety escort service if you feel unsafe, and they will send a person in a golf cart to come get you and take you to where you need to be. There may be more, but those are the resources I can think of, but during welcome week you can find out all about how to be safe on campus.

The ASU Tempe campus is huge, so there is always something to do. The weather is nice compared to other places, except it gets super hot here for a long time in summer. Beautiful campus, good professors if you ask other students before registering for classes, campus safety is ok, cost is good compared to other colleges around.
Tips for prospective students
Apply early to try for automatic scholarships based on your ACT/SAT score. Bring a bike or board if you plan on having classes at opposite sides of campus. And get used to the heat, because it's Arizona and it doesn't cool down here until November through April. Visit campus at least once because you don't see how big and amazing it is until you do.
Academic Rigor
I'd say my classes are kind of intense, especially the honors program course. It depends on the professor, but as long as you go to most of the classes and do the homework on time you'll be all right. From my experience, all my professors and TA's went out of their way to help me understand the concepts and get better at writing, although I've heard of a few who don't. There are tutors and writing centers on campus too who will give you help if you need it.
Dorm Life
Barrett Honors College has awesome dorms. The buildings and landscape are well cared for and the dorms are pretty safe. People get together in study groups all the time, and there are events and activities during holidays and every week.
Food and Dining
I don't know about the other dining halls, but Barrett has a great food selection. There's healthy meals, pasta, burgers, vegan meals, stir-fry, custom sandwiches, and pizza every day, plus a menu that changes daily and sometimes includes sushi. There is a great breakfast and a salad and fruit bar. And did I mention the ice cream/gelato bar?
What to do for fun
The Tempe campus is huge, so there's always something to do. There are football games on Saturdays, shows and musicals at Gammage auditorium, concerts and malls in Tempe, lots of clubs, and places to explore. Mill Avenue usually has stuff going on at night, and ASU does events throughout the year.
Bang for the buck
Tuition wasn't a problem for me because I got a good scholarship, but if you're out of state you'll want to get your ACT/SAT score up to get a good scholarship. Barrett dorm prices are high, though. Otherwise, ASU isn't as costly as other colleges around. The classes are pretty good and campus has lots of resources and events.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
Painting "A" Mountain is during Fall Welcome, when the freshmen hike up "A" Mountain and whitewash it. Then, they guard it from the students from U of A, who try to paint it their school colors. There is also Lantern Walk during homecoming week, and the secret garden, which I haven't found yet. ASU also does de-stressing activities during finals week, with things like massages and puppies to pet around campus, and Finals Breakfast at night.
Great for these types of students
ASU is great for students who want a big campus and lots of classes to choose from. If you're a good student, apply to Barrett for a ton more opportunities. You have to visit campus to really see what it's like, and there are always tours and people who will help you through the admissions process and beyond. It's good for all kinds of students, really, but it depends on what you want to major in.
Clubs and Activities
So many clubs, including a Quidditch league. The gym has everything, including a pool and basketball court. There are student government groups and game nights in the dorms. Also, there are shows going on at Gammage auditorium, sports to watch, and random events around campus and at the MU.
Greek Life
I'm not a part of Greek life here, but there are lots of opportunities and many frat and sorority people around campus.
Campus Safety
Campus is pretty safe, although I did hear about a couple of robbery incidents and about someone who got into a dorm because a door was propped open. But campus is safe as long as you use common sense. The blue light system is a system of lights that you can press and keep pressing so police can know which direction you're going if you need help. Campus safety escorts are available at night, but people even use them during the day. Police are pretty good, and you see them around often, especially at peaceful protests. Also, the Livesafe app lets you report things anonymously and get immediate help from campus police.

Am learning a lot
There is alot to learn about college life, and ASU gave me the lowdown really fast. textbooks, classes, advisers, professors, football, sororities, as well as studying abroad and already talking about graduate school as a freshman. ASU has helped me prepare for my future in advanced so that I can focus on my studies more and worry less.
Am enjoying being here
All of the professors I have been in class with have been very helpful, including TA's. They always email you when there is a change in plans and usually remind you about upcoming projects and tests. Staff are very friendly and helpful as well.
Tips for prospective students
Make sure to make friends within your major and to befriend your advisers, they will help you the most. Find a nice place on campus that you can go to in between classes and study. sometimes the library, computing commons, and Memorial Union are jammed all at once. Usually there are open classrooms. Try sitting in on a large lecture class if you do not have a lot to do, I did, and picked up quite a bit of knowledge on latin
Great for these types of students
Great for people who love the outdoors as well as the sun. In the beginning of the school year you can get a tan just walking to class. On a more serious note, ASU is wonderful for any and all types of students because they have so many options as far as majors go. Not to mention you can take classes in just about any field for elective credit.

I feel I have obtained a good quality of education to this point. I like how ASU has “major maps”, which list the classes one should register for in order to graduate on time. It makes planning and registering for classes very simple. The school is also very computer friendly and the ASU website is very detailed and easy to navigate.
Am enjoying being here
Arizona State University – as a 2nd year student this Fall 2009, I have enjoyed attending this university. I especially enjoy the variety of students from, literally, all around the world. ASU has four campuses and I attend the Main campus (also known as Tempe campus). On this campus, you can find buildings that are old, but some are fairly new. The school environment, especially the school I'm in W.P. Carey, makes it conducive for studying. The weather, especially in the fall, winter, and part of Spring, is great.
Bang for the buck
There are many locations where one can find a computer and study. I like how some of my professors write the textbook for the class as well. Compared to other universities, it's fairly inexpensive for a great quality of education.
Tips for prospective students
Bring sunglasses! They help blocking the strong AZ sun out of your eyes. Always carry a water bottle when walking to and from classes on campus. Get a little early to big lecture classes, like 10 minutes, so you get a good seat, or sometimes a seat at all. I suggest planning you classes out so that you’re done by 3pm. Try not to schedule your classes with blocks more than an hour in between. It’s better to get your classes done in a set time frame. Schedule your classes very early (They fill up fast).
Apply as soon as you can for financial aid because the scholarships are usually available to the early-birds. As the saying goes, “the early bird gets the worm”
Great for these types of students
Students should come to ASU if they want to be surrounded by a big, diverse group of people from around the world. Students particularly interested in studying business should come to ASU because W. P. Carey School of Business (currently a student) is ranked in the top 25 in the nation. It's very prestigious and hard to get in.

Arizona State is a rigorous state school that can provide many opportunities to those who know where to look. The school is expensive, but provides many unique services to the students. If one is willing to put in the work, ASU is a great place to be.
Tips for prospective students
An important aspect prospective students often ignore is location. For example, ASU is in the heart of Phoenix, which allows for many opportunities outside of the college.
Academic Rigor
The general requirements are not too overwhelming, although the courses move quickly; however, when one adds in the Barrett requirements combined with extracurricular activities it becomes much more difficult. If one uses every opportunity, ASU is a highly rigorous school.
Dorm Life
The newer dorms are very nice and larger than the dorms in most schools; however, the old ones are in need of renovation.
Food and Dining
The dining halls produce decent food, but it is often too crowded and the food becomes repetitive very quickly.
What to do for fun
ASU is right next to mill which has many bars and restaurants that are fun for people of all ages.
Bang for the buck
The school is very expensive, but is still competitively priced for a state school. They should work on making the tuition more affordable though.
Great for these types of students
ASU is great for students looking to take the initiative and use every opportunity.
Clubs and Activities
There are hundreds of clubs and activities for everyone
Greek Life
Greek life is discouraged and makes up a small part of the campus life.
Campus Safety
The campus is very safe and makes safety a priority.

Before attending ASU, I attended another state college. At that college, for most of my classes, my teachers were the heads of the departments. But for the other classes, though, it was a joke. At ASU, however, all of my classes have been challenging, well-rounded, and exciting. My teachers have been extremely helpful, which always aides the learning process. ASU also emphasizes global and local awareness in their general studies. This has broadened my horizons and, I think, given me an upper-edge against other colleges whose general studies are more limited.
Am enjoying being here
The atmosphere is great. I take a lot of iCourses, or purely online courses, and the students are supportive and very motivated. Usually, you'll see postings a day before class starts, which is very cool to see. In my classes, I have met a lot of serious, driven students - it inspires you to work harder!
Bang for the buck
In all of my classes, I have received tons of feedback from the teachers (and not the teacher assistants - the actual PhD's). When I've sent an e-mail, I've heard back in a day or two. Teachers are very willing to help, and class formats are very challenging. Their online services are top-notch; they have 24/7 help chat rooms and tech support. I've talked to some friends who go to other larger universities, and they all comment on how hard ASU classes are compared to theirs. Plus, if you're an online student, you pay in-state tuition no matter where you live. It's an excellent option for anyone who has to work or wants to go back to college.
Tips for prospective students
The application process is extremely easy - just send them a high school transcript and a college transcript if you're a transfer student. The application process took me about 15 minutes. The Admissions office is very organized, and my application was processed in about a week (and that was near Christmas). Their ecollege and MyASU center makes keeping track of everything incredibly easy.
Great for these types of students
ASU is great for more traditional students who want to learn in the classroom and is also great for non-traditional students who want to do more independent, flexible online learning. It's a diverse campus with many different opportunities in every area - academic, sports, clubs, etc. Also, the campuses are beautiful, as well as the Tempe area! Art and music festivals come through all of the time. Trust me - you'll always have some event to go to or some concert to see. You'll never feel stuck in your dorm room!

My first semester at ASU has been a blast! I'm a nursing student on the downtown campus in Phoenix. My course load at the college of Nursing & Health Innovation has been quite heavy, however if you stay focused and seek help from professors and tutors there is a high chance you'll succeed.
Am enjoying being here
So far I love Arizona! Everyone at the school that I've met is very friendly and respects differences. There is a lot to do outside of school activities as well as at the university, from football games, clubs and organizations, to joining sororities and fraternities.
Bang for the buck
If you're getting In-State Tuition-yes. If you're paying out-of-state... it's difficult to say when paying the full $35,000. Make sure you get scholarships and grants!
Tips for prospective students
Stay focused and don't be afraid to ask for help when you feel like you are falling behind. It will only get worse if you don't seek help. Be open to new things and get involved!
Great for these types of students
Outgoing, academic oriented, engaged, fun-loving, diverse.
