this school has very unique programs, with excellent hands on experience, and knowledgeable professors who also work in the field. the also have a great research facility that students can become involved in.
Academic Rigor
it's a fairly intense school, even for the undergrad programs. be prepared for a lot of work.
Dorm Life
you get your own room and your own bathroom, and share a kitchen with up to 11 other people. it's nice, but very loud. if you have problems sleeping it's not recommended. otherwise it's good. it is expensive.
Food and Dining
great options, a bit pricey, and no meal plan, but the food is great, they have vegetarian options and you can always buy a sandwich, fruit, yogurt, and other easy to grab and go items.
What to do for fun
it's in the middle of a beautiful state park right on the edge of lake washington. if you love to hike, and swim it's great.
Bang for the buck
the chemistry lab needs to be updated and remodeled, which is surprising for the price of the school and their focus on science. they do have a great herbal preparations lab, an herb garden, a vegetable garden, and small class sizes.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
they have an annual polar bear club where students run down the trail to the lake and jump in the first day of winter quarter.
Clubs and Activities
lots of clubs including, yoga, dance, psychology, herbal ways, etc.
Campus Safety
it's in a very safe area

I am a graduate of the Herbal Sciences Bachelor's of Science program, and just entered the Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine Master's of Science program. My journey at Bastyr has been enlightening and I have learned more than I could have ever possibly imagined. Bastyr provides one with the necessary skills to become a natural health practitioner in the changing world of healthcare and medicine. The medicinal herb garden and surrounding forest provide a spectacular living classroom, and provide a natural ambiance that makes pulling into campus each day a delight. I am grateful that such an institution exists.
Tips for prospective students
Take as much of your science as possible before entering any of the bachelors or Masters program (biochem, anatomy, ochem, pathology, micro, etc) because it will lighten your load a ton and make for a much nicer experience.
Academic Rigor
Be ready to dedicate you life to your studies, these are all or nothing programs.
Food and Dining
Amazing organic, mostly local whole food cafeteria that is affordable and oh so tasty!
What to do for fun
Seattle has a variety of fun activities, from nature to nightlife, there is something for everyone. The campus itself it set in the beautiful St. Edward's State Park right on Lake Washington.
Bang for the buck
Pricey, but worth it if you want to study natural medicine, have opportunity for research, access to outstanding resources, and have the Bastyr name attached to everything you do.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
The organic local whole Foods cafeteria, the medicinal herb garden, the amazing forest and fabulous lake. Oh and the amethyst biomat. I could go on and on, but you get the jist, this is a really special school that cares about not only the quality of education its students receive, but also their quality of life.
Great for these types of students

The atmosphere of the San Diego Campus of Bastyr is small, warm, and family like. The class size and small campus gives us a chance to get to know each other.
Tips for prospective students
Get linked up with other students on the faacebook page. This is where a lot of really good information, such as, date reminders, housing options, and social get togethers get announced.
Academic Rigor
Academically, it is tough in the Naturopathic Medicine program, but it is not undoable. If you are going there for the passion of becoming a doctor, then the academics are just something that you will tend to want to do because you will want to be the best doctor for your patients.
Food and Dining
There is not on campus dining for the San Diego campus; however, there are a variety of options close by.

Bastyr University is a remarkable school, geared towards the health sciences. They promote a naturalistic view of just about anything you study there. The sense of community is possibly the best part, joining this school is like becoming a new member of a health oriented family.
Tips for prospective students
Go to the admissions events, talk to current students, and most important of all walk the dozens of trails located around the campus! Staff and students are always looking for new and similar people to make friends with and help understand their own journey.
Academic Rigor
The curriculum can get intense with the heavy sciences, but the faculty does a good job of making every class fun and exciting! Also you might have a quarter with one very difficult class, but multiple easy and enjoyable classes. If you ever need help, classmates, professors, and tutors are at your disposal.
Dorm Life
The dorms are beautiful and expansive. If you ever wondered what a sustainable dorm would look like, now you have your chance! Not to mention the abundance of nature that surrounds the dorms and the campus for exploring purposes.
Food and Dining
The cafeteria at Bastyr University, is well known all throughout Washington for it exquisitely prepared meals and desserts. All from local and organic sources, and they have options that support whatever types of food sensitivities you might have. Gluten Free, Vegan, Vegetarian, or even straight up Carnivore!
What to do for fun
Run and hike the abundance of trails that are located all around the campus, St. Edwards Park. Enjoy the herb and vegetable garden that envelops the lower field. Explore the exciting town of either Kenmore or Kirkland!
Great for these types of students
Those that have a passion for nature and people.
Clubs and Activities
The clubs are there, and their are many. From Ultimate Frisbee, to Yoga, if we don't have it, then you can make it.
Campus Safety
Very safe, with security guards protecting the parking lots and more! Also being in a state park, you have the overall protection of park rangers.
