Founded in 1895, Fort Valley State University is a 4-year public public school in central Georgia and an Historically Black College and University. Part of the University System of Georgia, FVSU is home to colleges of Arts & Sciences, Agriculture, and Education conferring undergraduate degrees including the only Veterinary Technology Program in the state. For students interested in instrumental music, Fort Valley State hosts a marching band known as The Blue Machine. Once a year, Fort Valley State holds an annual Mr. and Miss FVSU ceremony.
