In three sentences
Guilford Technical Community College is an exceptional start for any student interested in the aviation industry. Degree programs include Aviation Management, Career Pilot and a plethora of A&P licensing and Maintenance degrees. The school also works closely with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, streamlining the transfer process for higher degrees.
Tips for prospective students
Be persistent during the enrollment process. Sometimes communications can be a challenge before official enrollment. However, after a student receives an ID, email and advisor, ease of communication increases dramatically. The website is easily navigated and advisors/professors are very responsive to students' emails and phone calls.
Academic Rigor
This coursework is challenging, but if students apply themselves and complete assignments, academic excellence is certainly obtainable. I found my professors very responsive to any questions I might have had and online/on campus tutoring is available regularly.
What to do for fun
GTCC offers a multitude of clubs and extra-curricula activities for students, especially for a community college.
Bang for the buck
GTCC is certainly affordable and offers many two year degrees that are extremely lucrative upon graduation.
Great for these types of students
Any student interested in the aviation industry.
Campus Safety
GTCC has many "non-traditional" students that attend school in the evening after work. Therefore, campus safety is very important to the school. There are plenty of call boxes for campus police scattered about and their text message alert program is exceptional.
