Most kids dream of being astronauts or pilots at some point. If you're still set on your childhood dream of exploring the skies or cosmos, you can make your goals a reality by getting an aeronautics/aviation/aerospace science and technology major. Programs are offered at private, state, and military universities across the nation.

Majoring in aeronautics/aviation/aerospace science and technology allows you to study aviation and the aviation industry. The curriculum for this major generally includes instruction in the technical, business, and general aspects of air transportation systems. General courses might include algebra, trigonometry, calculus, chemistry, and physics. More specific courses include instruction in general engineering principles, propulsion, stability and control, structures, mechanics, and aerodynamics. Courses are held in a number of settings, including a typical classroom, labs, or in the field. Internships are also common and will give you great hands-on experience.

Students with a degree in aeronautics/aviation/aerospace science and technology have the opportunity to work in many fields. Some work as airline, commercial, helicopter, or military pilots, while others find work as aeronautical and astronautical engineers.
