Who isn't fascinated by Native American culture and history? An American Indian studies major allows you to learn more about these topics, as well as the sociology and economics of Native American tribes.
The program places an emphasis on natives originating from Canada or the U.S. You'll receive detailed instruction in indigenous worldview perspectives, history of Native American education, literature, and tribal governments.
Apart from learning about how these communities protect themselves and maintain their traditions, you'll have the chance to help their cause. However, this does not necessarily mean that you're restricted to a certain career. You can find employment as a museum curator, public interest lawyer, health educator, public interest advocate, social worker, or as an elementary, middle and high school teacher.
