If you want to help people manage their psychiatric illnesses, completing a psychiatry residency will help you achieve your goal. Psychiatrists help people with substance abuse, chronic mental illnesses, and other debilitating mental health disorders.
Students interested in this program will have to first complete a four-year undergraduate degree and then attend medical school. Only then can they apply for a psychiatry residency program, during which they'll put their knowledge into practice and work alongside experienced physicians in a health care setting.
After completing the program, students can earn their license and begin practicing medicine, or gain further knowledge in specialized fields, like addiction psychiatry.
