Founded by Roman Catholics in 1870, St. John’s University is a private institution originally established in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood in New York City, before moving to its current location in Queens. Other campuses are located in Staten Island, Manhattan, and Rome, Italy. There are several opportunities for community service, including in the student-run St. John’s Bread and Life Program which provides support and services for the poor. Biology, Accounting, and Psychology are popular fields of study for undergraduates.
