Founded in 1871, the San Francisco Art Institute is a college of contemporary art and the oldest art school in the western United States. SFAI confers undergraduate degrees in eight artistic fields of study such as Printmaking and Sculpture. All degrees feature cross-disciplinary coursework and collaboration with peers and faculty. In addition, SFAI oversees five galleries for students to display their work for the public and is partners with many important cultural organizations around the Bay Area, such as the Headlands Center for the Arts, the Kadist Art Foundation, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
