Seminole State College of Florida is a wonderful school. They offer small class sizes and have a faculty that really cares about their students. Many of my teachers not only knew my name but a little about who I am!
Tips for prospective students
I would suggest getting a planner to organize your classes, many of teachers have different schedules for test and assignments. I normally put all of my tests and assignments in my planner at the beginning of the semester.
Academic Rigor
This college is challenge and will test your knowledge. I feel most of the professors are there to help students succeed.
Food and Dining
The cafe at the Oviedo campus is ok,but most of it is pre-made foods. I would recommend packing a lunch. The cafe at the Altamonte Springs campus is great but gets pricey!
What to do for fun
There are many clubs and organizations you can join- seems to be something for everyone and there's a planetarium at the Sanford/Lake Mary campus that holds events often.
Bang for the buck
Small class sizes for reasonable tuition prices and teachers that seem to care about their students. They also have many students in the tutor lab that have been very helpful! Also, If you plan on transferring to a university that seem to have many resources to help students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
The Oviedo campus plants a new tree every earth day and it's neat to see them all around campus.
Great for these types of students
Anyone who wants a small campus experience! A school where teachers will know who you are.

There are many clubs to join and many events on all of the campuses. The Sanford/Lake Mary campus has a planetarium that holds many events.

seminole state college of florida is an excellent school for anyone to attend. classes are very easy to get settled into for persons of all ages, types, and school year. although several subjects may seem rigorous, it is evident that ssc is very involved in many students' lives, helping each individual achieve their degree and ultimately, a career for life.
Tips for prospective students
sign up to be a full time student if you can! many new students fear the school schedules and choose one or two classes a semester. however, they soon find that they are stuck at school long after their classmates have graduated and moved onto another university and/or career! do not be afraid to sign up for more classes! work with the guidance counselors to help create a balanced school schedule that will work with your lifestyle. they are there to help you stay on top of things!
Academic Rigor
depending on which classes you take, the level of work can be intense. choose classes wisely. all science classes that are not concepts level are incredibly tough, but very worthwhile in the end when you recieve a high grade. math classes can be rough as well, but the professors are always there for you, thanks to the small class sizes. they will help you get the grade, if you are willing to ask for help.
Dorm Life
there are no dorms at ssc.
Food and Dining
there is a cafe chain at ssc called nature's table. prices can be steep sometimes, but they often have a special of the day so meals can be affordable. all the food at nature's table tends to be healthy and fresh, so that student's can avoid the dreaded freshman fifteen.
What to do for fun
there are tons of extracurricular activities to do at ssc! many sports are inter-mural so that everyone is welcome to join and play. likewise, there are clubs that cater to whatever interests you. writing, music, and science clubs are just several of the many clubs that are available to students for fun. not to mention the fairs that ssc holds every several months where students can win prizes, food, and have fun!
Bang for the buck
ssc is very affordable, and they make it easy for students to access loans and grants. as compared to ucf or fsu, i am paying just half the price of what my friends are dolling out for the exact same classes!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
my campus has an array of unique antique furniture placed in the courtyard of the school for students to relax and hang out.
Great for these types of students
the school is perfect for anyone who needs a school with affordable tuition, wants small classes and one-on-one availability with teachers, flexible class hours, an ever-ready community, and for anyone who just wants to jump right back into education.
Clubs and Activities
as stated before, there are many clubs and extracurricular activities for students to join. there are honor society clubs that hold high standards and encourage students to get their gpa the highest it can be and enter these honor societies so as to impress their future employers.
Greek Life
there are no fraternities or sororities.
Campus Safety
excellent safety. police officers and security guards are always on campus at all times.

Am learning a lot
All of the teacher's I have had in the past two semesters have been really good. At first I felt like I was back in high school, but it was just a mental thing because that's what everyone said the school was like. Once I started attending classes I knew it was so much different than high school.
Am enjoying being here
The teachers and staff are extremely helpful when questions arise. Teachers are very understanding when you need to miss class.
Bang for the buck
For what I am paying to attend class here, I am getting a lot of my college experience and I think it's great.
Tips for prospective students
Have goals, meet with an academic advisor and set up an educational plan...and FOLLOW IT! (It helps SO much when choosing classes)
Great for these types of students
First time in college, students who work, students with kids

Am learning a lot
The college offers a wide breadth of study opportunities and there is truly something for everyone. The professors at the school have taught me both the power of learning, and how to like learning. The college has inspired me to spread my wings in search of new knowledge in various fields outside of the classroom, while at the same time teaching me to appreciate our world from the knowledge that I have learned inside the classroom. Instilling a love of knowledge is something this school does very well, and it is something that takes a lot of care and effort to provide.
Am enjoying being here
The college experience here has been highly enjoyable. The college has a low key aspect to it that makes it very friendly and welcoming to new students, and returning students alike. The campus staff are very friendly as well, and along with the teachers all of the workers at the school make the college transition seem less of a worry some event, and more of a gateway to discovery event, which allows students to fit in comfortable with the college and enjoy the experience.
Bang for the buck
I know a lot about the rates of colleges in the state of Florida, and Seminole State College is one of the cheapest. Cheap does not always equate to good education though, but in Seminole State College of Florida's case the college is both cheap ($96.80 per credit hour) and offers deeply fulfilling education in a wide variety of subjects with well versed professors in all fields. The college is especially good for foreign students who need an affordable yet worthwhile education and is also good for full-time employees as they offer many online classes at no extra charge. The college's nursing program is also highly regarded throughout the state of Florida and is definitely a worthwhile plan of study. The only possible problem centers around out-of-state students who have to reside in the state for at least a year before they can pay the normal tuition rates. Until they can prove they have lived in Florida for at least a year, they must pay 3 times the price (about $300 per credit hour).
Tips for prospective students
Seminole State College of Florida's welcoming attitudes toward all students lessens the amount of worry for students who are nervous about college, but if you are planning to attend the school I would advise setting up an early orientation session, preferably two months ahead of your starting semester so that you can get familiar with the various aspects of the college and so that you can get into the classes that you want since the college is one of the fastest growing in the state and its not good to try to register at the last minute. Other than signing up early, there is not much to advise prospective students about, just sign up early and enjoy the experience.
Great for these types of students
First time in college students, full-time working students, foreign students, nursing majors (one highest regarded nursing programs in the state) interior design majors (B.A. offered and a well-known program), returning students, and those without proficient English language skills (English as a Second Language or ESOL classes and English for Academic Purpose(s) or EAP classes are available and highly regarded). Also, the college now offers five Bachelor degrees (they are in Business Information Management, Interior Design, Information Systems Technology, Architectural Engineering Technology, and Construction). The college is also good for anyone who is undecided about their major or just looking for an A.A. or A.S. to transfer into a 4-year college.

Did learn a lot
I absolutely learned a lot at Seminole State College! Coming into the school I was not expecting to be blown away by the education, but I definitely was. The professors are nothing short of remarkable. They are intelligent and clearly knowledgeable in their fields. Even more importantly they are passionate about sharing that knowledge, which makes learning all the more fun. I was hardly ever disappointed with a class, and I always felt like I was learning. The professors at Seminole aren't just about getting you through with a passing grade, they actually want you to learn and to engage with the material. Their effort clearly shows in how much I was able to take from my classes.
Did enjoy being here
The five semesters I spent at Seminole State have been some of the best in my life. This is mostly due to the amazing faculty and staff. From highly qualified professors, to caring administration, to clean bathrooms, I was never disappointed with Seminole State. There is always so much to do, so many activities to be involved in, that I was never bored. It is obvious how much Seminole State cares about it's students.
Bang for the buck
Seminole State is cheap compared to other Florida Colleges, and it is definitely worth more than what I paid for it. The professors are over qualified, many of the ones I was privileged with having doctorate degrees, and they are passionate about teaching. The campus is actually quite beautiful and is under million dollar renovations. The new library can be described as luxurious. There are computer labs available at several different sites. The class sizes are small, in my experience ranging from 13-32. If you seek it out, you get personalized attention from administration, counselors, financial aid counselors, and professors. There is tutoring included in your tuition. The school does its best to provide students who need it with working and employment opportunities. I couldn't be happier with how I spent my first two years of higher education.
Tips for prospective students
Get involved!! My time at Seminole State was incredible and life changing because of my decision to get involved with Student Activities such as the Student Government Association, Phi Theta Kappa, and other clubs and organizations. I had the opportunity to make very close relationships with the Student Life faculty, which has opened up several doors for me. Leadership Retreats are free to students and the best possible way to spend a weekend. I learned and changed so much from being involved, and I can't recommend the Leadership Institute enough! Stop by the Student Life office at C-102 for an amazing opportunity. Also, if you have a 3.2 GPA, join the Honors Institute! The classes and professors are amazing, and the other honors students became family. You won't regret it!
Great for these types of students
Anyone! Traditional and non-traditional students alike are welcome and encouraged at Seminole State!
