The United States Military Academy at West Point is a very prestigious institution in which one can discover what he or she is truly made of in the academic, military, and physical fields. Every student graduates a leader of character and earns the privilege of leading men and women in the U.S. Army. The ever expanding fraternity of the 'Long Grey Line' reminds the student that he or she is not alone in their drive to become an officer in the U.S. Army.
Tips for prospective students
Prospective candidates should truly dig down deep within him or herself and make the mature decision to see if it is what he or she really wants out of life. So long as the prospective candidate displays true caring, he or she will gain acceptance. The U.S. Military Academy searches for a well rounded applicant, therefore, focus on developing your social, physical, and academic equally.
Academic Rigor
Academics are the majority of your time commitment at West Point. Every student must learn and refine his or her time management skills otherwise he or she will not be able to successfully complete the 47-month experience. However, West Point provides a great amount of resources to aid its students in order for them to succeed.
Dorm Life
There are no dorms per say at West Point. Every student rooms in one of West Point's barracks for the duration of their four year stay. The barracks are maintained by every student, meaning every student cleans the barracks in order to maintain proper health and welfare for all inhabitants.
Food and Dining
Every student eats at least two meals in West Point's fabled Washington Hall. It is a dining hall that provides each student the proper amount of food to succeed during the academic hours. The last meal of the day can be eaten in Washington Hall, at the Cadet Restaurant, or order out food from the nearby town of Highland Falls.

One of the premier institutions in the entire country with an unparalleled education in all aspects of life. Moral, ethical, physical, mental, leadership developing lifestyle four four years to create some of the best individuals in the U.S.
Will enjoy being here
It depends on who you are and what you plan to take from the college. If you enjoy partying and running around with friends, WP might not be the fit for you. But people who wish to truly better themselves in the astounding environment found at the Academy will both enjoy their time and walk away as more developed and better people.
Bang for the buck
Unlike how some perceive it, WP is not free. Sure, monetarily cadets won't have to pay a dime out of pocket for the education they receive. But a graduating cadet commits to at least five years active duty in the US Army and four years of intense training while at USMA.
Tips for prospective students
DON'T PROCRASTINATE!!! I can't stress that enough. If you are serious about a service academy then you should get things in as early as possible. This means starting before the end of your Junior year. By the time you start Senior year, you should either already be done or almost finished with your application.
Great for these types of students
Motivated, athletic, intelligent leaders that work hard and aren't afraid of getting their hands in the mud or attempting things they have never done before.

Make sure that if you are a 2012 high school grad that you seriously begin now. It might possibly be too late. For 2013 high school grads, begin looking now to apply for the summer seminar to really get a feel on a weeklong experience of West Point life.
Will enjoy being here
If a US Army officer is what you aspire to be then this school is perfect. They will make you an ideal officer in the active duty Army.
Bang for the buck
It's absolutely free and you actually recieve pay so it's almost like you are already working for the Army. It was ranked #1 by Forbes Magazine.
Tips for prospective students
Get all applications done early as well as scheduling doctors appointments and getting nominational packets together long before the deadline because you don't want to have to have your fingers crossed whether applications will reach the Congressman and other nominational sources in time.
Great for these types of students
Aspiring military officers who ultimately desire a career-long service in the US Army.

The BEST Education you can find, the Academics are rigorous and challenging. Leadership, Team Work and Character is KEY to success at the Academy. The BEST place to commission as an Officer in the Army.
Tips for prospective students
Start EARLY. Maintain top-notch grades and really dig in to the SAT, take it as many times as you can, the academy allows Super-Scoring, so only your best scores on each section are taken into account. Be a LEADER in your respective clubs, sports, organizations and communities, also, strive for a nomination; only those that are nominated by a congressman are considered for admissions.
Academic Rigor
Top-Notch Education. I took foreign languages, social sciences, and English at my visit on SLE and the professors were amazing. The academics will mold you into a professional individual and will prepare you to excel in the challenges of Graduate Studies.
Dorm Life
The first year (plebe year) one is expected to maintain one's dorm in optimum conditions for inspection.
Food and Dining
Eat FAST, Eat Smart and Enjoy the Taste. At SLE we had Buffet-like breakfast, lunch, and dinners.
What to do for fun
West Point is all but dull. There are SO MANY clubs and activities that you will have a hard time managing your time to fit all of your interests. When I was in SLE I heard that there was even a BBQ club! Im a Taekwondo Black Belt, and I also practice MMA, so i was pleased in discovering that they have various martial arts clubs on campus.
Bang for the buck
COMPLETELY FREE. PLUS you get COMMISSIONED in the ARMY!
Great for these types of students
Leaders, Type A personalities, people with an undaunted drive. A sense of purpose will distinguish a standard bearing individual from the rest.
Clubs and Activities
SO MANY CLUBS!! FUN ACTIVITIES
Greek Life
NO GREEK LIFE

One of the most beautiful campuses and everyone I met was great. Although it may seem as though you're sacrificing a lot it is all worth it in the end.
Tips for prospective students
Apply early and do your best. Play sports, be active in the community, keep your grades in tip top shop, obtain leadership roles in the clubs you're a part of. Try to make a difference. They care about a whole cadet not just one that is a gold academic egg or a D-1 athlete that doesn't have a 3.0 gpa.
Academic Rigor
From what I've been told by not only admissions but also current cadets you're definitely getting a top-notch education.
Dorm Life
The dorms aren't dorms, they're barracks. They're not huge but they definitely have enough space for everyone and due to having inspections it will always be clean.
Food and Dining
The food isn't all that great all the time (typical college food) but you can order food and have company dinners which will have pizza and pasta or whatever the seniors decide on.
What to do for fun
There are so many clubs and sports to be apart of. From singing to rowing to hunting they have absolutely everything. & If for some reason there's something they don't have you can create an organization or club with 3 others and officer (serves as a sponsor sort of.)
Bang for the buck
You don't pay for much. Only a couple thousand overall however it's not 100% free like everyone tells you. It's definitely all worth it though.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
There's a plebe (freshman) pillow fight. There's also the naked man tradition that happens every year. You can find this stuff on YouTube.
Great for these types of students
Anyone looking for an exceptional education, a career in the military, or even just a head start on civilian life would definitely benefit.
Clubs and Activities
The variety of clubs, sports, and activities is amazing.
Greek Life
There is no greek life.
Campus Safety
I saw a lot of military police but not much else.

the uited sates mlitary aademy is an excellent school that challenges its students not only academically, but socially as well. this is to mold cadets into the best future leaders for the us army. be mindful it is a demanding school overall, but in the long run it will mold you into a better person for having experienced it.
Tips for prospective students
mke sure you have a well rounded application with not only one thing or another and make sure you reach out to your congressman or woman for your nomination as soon as you are positive that you want to apply to the school.
Academic Rigor
cadets go to school from 7:30am to 4:00pm every monday thru friday just like in high school.
Dorm Life
cadets live in barracks with usually three to a room.
Food and Dining
the mess hall is a cadets primary source of food it is pretty decent majority of the time.
What to do for fun
there are plenty of events going on at west point for cadets such as musical groups and comedians come to perform at ike hall. boxing tournaments are held annually.
Bang for the buck
considering it is a free school and gives you a job right when you graduate it is a bang for your buck school.
Great for these types of students
every type of student can find their niche here. i originally believed you had to be an army brat who was born and raised with the military lifestyle in their blood to attend this school, but that simply isn't the case. the army is really open to having any type of student who is hard-working and can follow rules.
Clubs and Activities
from pistol to powerlifting there are plenty of clubs and activities available to cadets on campus.
Greek Life
there is no greek life at the academy.
Campus Safety
cadets live on a military base i don't think it gets any safer than that.
