Is Cappex a Secure Web Site?
Founded in 2006, Cappex.com is a free web site, used by about half of college-bound high school seniors.
Cappex has reasonable security measures in place to keep student information safe from unauthorized access. Staff, vendors and contractors who work on the Cappex sites and have access to personally identifiable information are required to keep the information confidential.
Cappex uses SSL encryption to protect student information as it is transmitted from your web browser to the web site. You can tell this by the use of “https” in the URLs instead of “http”. The “s” stands for SSL. Some web browsers will indicate that a web site is secure by showing a lock icon in the location bar, adjacent to the web address.
Cappex complies with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), which controls the collection of personally identifiable information from young children.
Some of the many services provided by Cappex include:
- College Search and College Match
- What Are My Chances (WAMC)
- College Fit Meter
- Compare Colleges
- College Reviews
- Careers and Majors Quiz
- College Visit Planner
- Scholarship Search
- College Applications
- Articles and Advice about College Admissions and Financial Aid
The questions asked by the detailed Cappex profiles are necessary to match students with colleges and scholarships. Completing a profile is optional, but will help you find the right colleges and match you with all the scholarships for which you are eligible.
The Cappex scholarship database does not include any scholarships that charge application fees. This safety measure helps protect students from scholarship scams.
