Business/Corporate Communications

Organizations need to get their message across in an effective way - this is where corporate communications comes in. Corporate communication majors are responsible for getting a company's message out to board members, employees, the media, investors, or consumers. The corporate communications degree is sometimes a standalone degree, but at other schools it's incorporated into a public relations degree. Students majoring in corporate communications will take courses in writing, branding, persuasion, media, public relations, and consumer behavior. They may also be able to take courses in newswriting, law and ethics and psychology. Most colleges will encourage their students to complete an internship that gives them experience in real-world projects, like writing press releases, working on a campaign, and dealing with the media. Having these experiences makes them much more desirable employees after graduation After completing their degree, many corporate communications majors work in public relations. Others may work in internal communications, radio, television, or marketing.
