Dental Hygiene/Hygienist

A dental hygiene major helps people keep their smiles in top shape, so if you're interested in helping others and dentistry but don't want to commit to dental school, a career as a hygienist may be right for you. Majoring in dental hygiene teaches you how to clean teeth and educate others on basic oral health. You'll learn to identify oral problems and diseases, and suggest preventive measures for patients. Typical courses cover topics like dental hygiene theory, dental anatomy, equipment use and maintenance, and microbiology. After graduating from college, you'll find plenty of jobs in this field. However, you will still need to fulfil your state's licensure requirements. After you've obtained your certification you'll be able to join an existing practice or set up your own.
