English/Language Arts Teacher Education

Are you a lover of literature, a grammar guru, or a wordsmith at heart? Do you also enjoy passing along tidbits of information about the written word for others to enjoy? If so, you might consider majoring in English or language arts. As an English/language arts education major, you'll be prepared to teach students about grammar, writing, and literature. Instruction also covers areas related to psychology and development of secondary school- aged children. Many courses are given in a typical classroom setting. However, you'll also spend some time in the field, observing licensed teachers or undertaking a student teaching practicum, in which you'll act as a classroom teacher for several weeks or months. Students who graduate with an English/language arts education degree generally find work in high school classrooms. If you wish to advance your career to get into educational administration, you could obtain a graduate degree in the future.
