Staying healthy and having fun while helping kids get fit are just the first of many benefits of being a physical education teaching and coaching major. This major will delve into the science of physical education, as well as how to instruct a PE class. Physical educators and coaches are heavily involved in many activities and sports. Therefore, this major will focus on how the body works, specific activities, and teaching methods. Though some courses will be held in a typical classroom setting, activity courses, such as tennis or swimming, will be held in their respective areas, such as a tennis court or pool. Most programs conclude with a student teaching practicum, in which physical education teaching and coaching majors engage in fieldwork, functioning as a classroom teacher. Students who graduate with a physical education teaching and coaching degree generally use their education to work as a K-12 physical education instructor. However, others may pursue other career opportunities and work as trainers or sports recruiters.
