William and Helen Kochant Memorial Writing Scholarship

Scholarship Description
Recipient(s): Varies Amount: Varies Class Standing: Freshman Established in 1995 by Helen Kochant, a retired faculty member, in memory of her husband William Kochant. Dr. Kochant believes in educating children with literary skills at the elementary level. The selection and criteria process will be as follows: A. Must be an accepted freshman student planning to matriculate in the fall at SUNY New Paltz. B. Must have declared a major in elementary education. C. First priority will be given to candidates who have demonstrated an interest in writing stories and/or books for children as evidenced by faculty recommendation and written statements as defined below. D. In addition to the application form, applicants must submit at least one written recommendation from a faculty member who has knowledge of the student's work and potential ability for success in the field of elementary education and/or writing children's stories and/or books. A short essay stating their personal circumstances, goals and why they feel that they should receive the award must also be submitted.
