Interior Design Departmental Scholarship
- Scholarship Description
- SUBMITTAL REQUIREMENTS
If you would like to take a few extra steps, you may apply for an Interior Design Departmental Scholarship. Departmental Scholarship awards range from $1,000 to $5,000 per year and can be "stacked" with other scholarship awards and grants from O'More, with a half-tuition maximum total. (Note: This maximum does not preclude additional scholarships or awards from non-O'More funding sources leading to greater total award amounts.)
In design school, the process of arriving at a solution to a problem is often more highly valued than the solution itself. Understanding one's thought process, particularly lateral thinking, can provide excellent foresight into oneâ??s ability to think creatively and, in this case, apply those creative problem solving skills to the field of Interior Design. Interior designers must be able to combine empathy, creativity, and rationality in how problems are approached and what methods are then used to ideate. Ideation is an important component of creative thinking, as it supports the notion of brainstorming; determining multiple ideas, not rejecting ideas, and realizing that no idea is implausible. Being a designer includes taking risks and dreaming of the impossibleâ?¦.which can become possible.
Project: Defining Light or Texture
This project requires creative, lateral thinking. The instructions are simplistic, but there is much depth needed in the solution. You will need to first start by choosing one of the following to define:
Light or Texture
Part 1: Define either light OR texture visually.
Part 2: Explain your creative thought process.
There are NO limitations to how you choose to complete this exercise. Both parts of the project must be submitted for consideration.
All work must be digitally submitted.
-Applicants may utilize Pinterest Boards or other digital media (Photoshop, PageMaker or similar) to "build" the project OR they may scan or photograph Part 1 (visual solutions) in high resolution (to eliminate the digitized/pixelated appearance).
- Part 2 (written explanation), limited to a maximum of 3 pages, can be designed, written, and formatted in any program.
-Save both files in .pdf format as follows: Part 1: lastname_firstname_P1.pdf and Part 2: lastname_firstnameP2.pdf (Ex: doe_johnP1.pdf and doe_johnP2.pdf)
Submit both files at the same time to the O'More Office of Admissions (firstname.lastname@example.org) for the review of the Inter Design Department Chairs.
- Complexity: As stated above, the thought process is significant. No points will be awarded for solutions without evidence of process.
-Quality: All submissions should be professional and presentation worthy.
-Creativity: Expression is valued over perfection. An emotional sketch or thought process is often more meaningful than an impeccable drawing lacking spirit.
