Neil S. Bucklew Scholars

Scholarship Description
Award Amount: A Presidential Scholarship, plus a book stipend, and $8,000 towards other costs for four undergraduate years. Established in 1995, the Neil S. Bucklew Scholars are named for WVU's 20th president who created the WVU Scholars Program. Chosen by the Bucklew/Foundation Scholars Selection Committee, the Neil S. Bucklew Scholars will be comprised of 20 of the state's top high school seniors. In addition to their Presidential Scholarships, Bucklew Scholars also receive $2,000 per year to support other costs and a yearly book stipend, which is set by the Office of Financial Aid. Criteria for Consideration: Minimum high school GPA of 3.80 and an ACT of 30 or SAT of 1340. Chosen by the Scholarship Selection Committee. Selected from students receiving a Presidential Scholarship who have graduated from a West Virginia high school or who have been home-schooled in West Virginia. How to Apply: To be considered for Neil S. Bucklew Scholarships, students must complete the process for admission to WVU by February 1. All test scores (ACT/SAT) should also be submitted by this date. Submit the Bucklew/ Foundation Scholarship application, which is mailed with Presidential Scholarship award letters. Typically 20 students are awarded the Bucklew Scholarship. Renewal Criteria
To maintain eligibility, you must have an overall GPA of at least 3.20 after each academic year. Scholars just also earn at least 30 credit hours each academic year. Students are notified in writing at the end of the spring semester if these requirements have not been met, and summer school may be used to attempt to make up deficiencies. Students whose first enrollment is the spring semester or who deferred their scholarship may be on a different review cycle where renewal requirements are measured after the fall semester.
