Scholarship Overview

To be eligible for the fellowship, the applicant must have permanent residence or citizenship in the United States at the time of application. He/she must also be a member of an ethnic minority group (Hispanic, African-American, or Native American) that is underrepresented in the sciences. Evidence of acceptance into, or good academic standing in, a graduate degree program is also required. The award consists of a $20,000 stipend for one academic year, to be dispensed over a 9-month period through the host institution. The award can be renewed for a second year of graduate study, upon receipt of a report from the recipient’s academic advisor indicating that the recipient is making normal progress toward the degree and will remain a full-time student in good academic standing at the university.
