This scholarship is for high school seniors who reside in the geographic areas represented by the SPE Los Angeles Basin Section (LASPE). To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must be entering college in the fall of their graduating year or the following year. One parent or relative (e.g., grandparents, aunts, uncles, or siblings) of the candidate must be an LASPE member in good standing for the past two years. A LASPE member in good standing may sponsor a student provided the student otherwise qualifies and receives board approval for sponsorship prior to selection. Preference will be given to students who have shown a demonstrated science-based interest in an Energy-related industry; for example, students may submit Energy-related school reports or science fair projects; show their participation in COMET program sponsored by the WCPTTC and LASPE or science-related training programs or clubs; show acceptance into an engineering or science-based major from a college or university; or other means that are acceptable to, and verifiable by, the Scholarships Committee by the application deadline. Proof of fulfilling graduation requirements from high school and acceptance into a college or university is required. Science or engineering college freshmen may apply/reapply for the scholarship as long as they have maintained a 3.0 GPA or above during their freshman year. Applicants will evaluated on their scholastic achievement and citizenship and community volunteer work.
