Scholarship Overview

The Ed Boyle Scholarship is named for the beloved physical education teacher and coach who initiated the Fox Chapel Area School District soccer program. A collegiate All American, Ed Boyle served as head coach of the varsity team for 9 years, leading the team to WPIAL Championships in 1964 and 1967. He returned to the program as an assistant coach in the late 70s and continued in that capacity until retirement in 1992. After his death in 2008, the Boyle Family, with contributions by faculty, fellow coaches, and former players, established a $1,000 scholarship in his name to be given to a graduating male soccer player. Established through the Pittsburgh Foundation, the scholarship is awarded according to their scholarship guidelines to a student who exemplifies the spirit and the talent of Coach Boyle. The scholarship is presented at the Annual Induction Banquet of the Fox Chapel Area Schools Sports Hall of Fame each June.
