Scholarship Overview

These scholarships are for graduating high school seniors who live in Buncombe or Madison County, North Carolina, and attend public high schools there. Graduating seniors from the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics (NCSSM) or the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA) and with permanent homes in Buncombe or Madison counties are also eligible. To qualify for these scholarships, applicants must demonstrate superior academic achievement/potential, strong moral character, participation in community service/extracurricular activities/work experience, and success in dealing with life's challenges. Applicants need not have faced dramatic challenges to be considered for this award. Past recipients, on average, have been in the top 1-2% of their class, had a 4.8 weighted GPA, and scored higher than 2200 on their SATs. Scholarship recipients must attend an approved US college/university full-time in the fall following the award. One annual renewable scholarship of $12,000 per year will be awarded to the winner; in addition, up to five other finalists will receive one-time awards of $1,000.
