Jack W. and Michael W. Van Dyke Memorial Scholarship

Community Foundation of the Holland-Zeeland Area

This scholarship is for graduating seniors from Zeeland East or Zeeland West High School in Zeeland, Michigan, who have been accepted to a two- or four-year accredited college, university or vocational/technical school. To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must be planning to pursue a degree or certification in a technical field or computer science. Financial need is a consideration but not a requirement. One letter of recommendation must be from someone at the student’s school or another learning environment, and the second must be from someone outside of the applicant’s school experience, who is not related to the applicant. Rather than an essay, applicants must provide a brief written response to both of the following questions: 1) What struggle, challenge, loss, or adversity have you faced or are you presently working through and how has it shaped the person you are? 2) Those who knew them well described Jack and Mike as self-learners with analytical minds, who each overcame adversity as they found success. Both Jack and Mike were gifted with technical abilities that were expressed in the diesel mechanic and computer science fields, respectively. How do you feel you reflect the spirit of these two individuals for whom the scholarship was established?
