Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Pierce College specifically the PACE program is uniquely designed for students both young and mature who are of the working and family class whose educational options are only those of week nights and weekend structures. The PACE program class schedule is designed to encourage students to succeed. The Professors are great. The are knowledgeable about the courses they teach and about the overall PACE structure. They are a team that work together to help ensure your success and progression within the school as well as in life. The PACE Administration as well as the Professors understandably designed the courses to be just as intense as the regular Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer general programs, but they are well aware of how fast paced their program can be for some. This is why the PACE program provides a multitude of resources for their students to reach their ultimate goals of completion. Some of the resources are: detailed syllabi, email access to PACE Administrators, counseling, and professors. Weekly check ins from PACE Administration to make sure the students are successfully on track with the course and PACE program outlines, as well as answer any concerning questions. The counselors are knowledgeable and concerned about your educational career paths. Pierce College includes several educational options. Receive an AA Degree, transfer, and certificates programs as well. The counselors will review all of the options with you. Pierce College is a college geared towards learning and reaching higher education. I would strongly encourage anyone to consider Pierce as their first step in college education.

Categories Comments What to do for fun pierce has a beautiful barn with beautiful animals! and a calmful, peaceful lake in the campus.
In three sentences pierce college is great! if you are having doubt with any college, starting in a community college isn't a bad thing. for one, you save a lot of money, and you get an idea of what college is like. what makes pierce very specail, is that theres a lot of diversity. so many people coming from a young age, to an older age. high class/ lower class pierce treats everyone the same. the materials are their, and if you need any asistence, the staff is always eager to help.
Food and Dining whats great about pierce is there food! they have: pupusas, tacos, hamburgers, sandwitches, fries, snacks. literally all you can think of, and each truck is located in different location around the school. which is very useful

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The architecture is definitely one of my favorite thing about Pierce, there are so many beautiful locations you may find yourself enamored with the beauty.
Food and Dining It's ok, good for when you're starving but no substitute the a real meal.
Academic Rigor Be prepared, some professors are a little infatuated with their lives and have egos that interrupt the actual lesson. Pick your professors wisely.
Tips for prospective students Plan everything ahead, leave no stone unturned, and lastly buy a printer it'll be worth the investment.
In three sentences It's ok, lines for financial aid are long and tedious, getting appointments with councilors requires about one week in advance. If you need help with smaller thing the student service building is pretty helpful. Beware the copy tech room, go to the library if you can for all your printing needs.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students nursing program
Bang for the buck Again, its a community college- you will end up saving money here compared to a 4 year, no matter what!
What to do for fun SPORTS. They recently renovated their gym, super nice.
Food and Dining The food isn't terrible, but there are tons of options! LOTS of food trucks spend their time on the Pierce campus selling food, drink - etc.
Dorm Life Since it is a community college, there isn't ON campus dorms. But I DO know that tons of students rent out apartments together, and they've all met at Pierce Community College.
Academic Rigor In my experience, it always depends on your professor and the classes you are taking. Some classes will be more difficult than others, but at the end of the day-its about how much effort YOU put in.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to connect with the right (and important people), it is SO easy to get misguided at community colleges-both geographically and educationally. Also, try car pooling!
In three sentences It is a much larger campus than LAVC, and some other community colleges. In my experience, the professors there are a tad better than others I have experienced in other community colleges. LOCATION, AMAZING-RIGHT NEXT TO THE METRO.

Categories Comments Campus Safety As mentioned above, during this year, (specifically in the beginning and end of Spring 2014 semester) all staff and professors have made it a priority to discuss safety matters in class, by e-mail, via text, as well as sending automated phone calls to keep students updated on matters concerning the campus, and most of all to maintain calm.
Great for these types of students All students. This college definitely has the easy going spirit that is expected at Southern California College, but the professors make academic success a priority, so its not for those who just want to fly through college. Students who want to awaken and/or fulfill a passion, this is a college choice for you.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The farm, botanical garden, Freudian Sip Cafe, diverse range of students.
Bang for the buck LA Pierce College is conveniently located in Woodland Hills, Ca, where there are several areas surrounding that students can meet up after to socialize with academic colleagues or get a bite to eat. This campus also has a farm, which hosts several seasonal events. It's a beautiful clean campus as well, and the agriculture landscape makes waking to and from class a joyous experience. Well maintained; the library is relatively new and staff is so kind to the students.
What to do for fun This campus hosts several student organizations to suit students individual interest, both academically and on a personal interest level.
Food and Dining Several food trucks are conveniently located through campus from Monday-Friday, Freudian Sip Cafe has great coffee and a menu that suites on-the-go or dine in meals, and the campus is located in Woodland Hills, which hosts several food locations near by (driving range). However, students who place high value in maintaining a healthy balanced diet should consider taking your own meals to have between classes.
Academic Rigor Professor and staff have office hours and staff is always ready to assist. Students are each others comrades as well. A lot of easy going people are here who are willing to support one another.
Tips for prospective students Make use of the Center of Academic Services and visit your professors during their office hours. The professors and staff at this college are so sincere and are always offering their best for their students success.
In three sentences My experience at LA Pierce College has thus far fulfilled my needs as I prepare to move forward in my academic career. The professors, opportunities available at the Center of Academic Success, counseling services, staff and academic references available for students (e.g. college library and library database) have all offered me an expansive range of support to strengthen my academic skills. Also, just as important, LA Pierce College has done an outstanding job in ensuring students are protected and feel safe, especially this year where there have been several unfortunate events of gun violence in many college campuses in Western United States.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Play sports on the many fields on Pierce's campus. You can also just hang out at the library or the park area by the Sciences Department. You can walk through the Botanical garden and relax your mind there. You can take part in the many events they host
Food and Dining Lots of great food places! Cafeterias, coffee shops, and food trucks do the trick.
Academic Rigor Work is neither overwhelming nor too simple. It is just the right amount to keep you interested and motivated to work.
Tips for prospective students Apply as soon as your registration date comes!! And keep applying until you find a spot for that specific class. Always show up on the first day of class or else you will be dropped. Try renting your books or buying them online. Use Rate Your Professor website to find out if the professor is right for you!

Categories Comments Campus Safety There has been one robbery on campus since I have been attending but personally I have met only nice and intelligent people.
Clubs and Activities Pre Veterinary Club! I have just recently joined and it is one of the largest and most fully-functioning club on campus.
Great for these types of students Library is a wonderful and resourceful place. Open most of the day, great for studying if you get too distracted trying to study at home like me.
What to do for fun Walk around the agriculture part of the campus to see all the animals. Or if that is not of interest there is a movie theater and small mall a couple blocks from the campus.
Food and Dining There is food available, some of it is well made and some is a rip off. I would like to see more healthy foods available on campus
Dorm Life Unsure, I do not live in the dorms.
Academic Rigor Most of the professors I have met and all that I have studied with are passionate about their subject and try to instill that passion into their students. All have been fair and understanding. I have learned much from them.
Tips for prospective students Stay ahead of everyone else as far as applying for scholarships, running or registering for classes and attend the classes.
In three sentences Pierce College is a school composed of credible and experienced professors that teach with a natural and educated vigor. The campus is well-sized, large enough for the opportunity to engage with new people daily yet small enough to easily maneuver the grounds. The only downside of Pierce Community College is the organization of how the school reacts to so many students trying to get into classes at their school.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck I wish I had listened to my mother's advice instead of heading off to an expensive 4-year school at 18yrs old. Financially and academically, I would have been much better off starting at a community college, like Pierce and transferring. Now I'm back and getting an education at a much more reasonable price.
Food and Dining There isn't much
Academic Rigor Again, this depends on what you choose to pursue at Pierce; the veterinary technology program is somewhat rigorous, the sciences tend to be much more challenging. I find when I have to go to the other side of campus for things such as English or history, the level drops into more of a high school feel.
Tips for prospective students Don't wait as long as I did to go back! Much less intimidating than jumping into a very expensive, 4-year program.
In three sentences Totally depending upon what your future plans are, Pierce has a great pre-vet/veterinary technology program, which is incredible. Good hands-on learning that you cannot get from a strictly online program. Great teachers and students within the program that really care and will go out of the way to help anyone.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Police station ON campus!
Clubs and Activities I know there are many clubs, activities and events offered I just haven't had the time to take advantage of them.
Great for these types of students Students looking for a university styled; campus, availability and quality of classes with community college prices.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The only thing that struck me as unusual when looking into this school in the beginning was that they do have a farm on campus. I think it's awesome especially for being a community college in Los Angeles. I believe during the summer, students organize some sort of fair near the farm for the public.
Bang for the buck They are the only LACCD school that offers the PACE program, the only school that I've been able to register for classes (not sit in and add) and the campus and staff are excellent! Plus there is a police station on campus!
What to do for fun Like I said before, I love this campus, it's BIG and doesn't look like your average community college. There is a garden in the middle of the school, a farm, and plenty of walking paths through and around the school. Night or day you'll see groups walking around. The cafe has food and plays music inside and on the patio too. There are sports and different types of clubs to join also.
Food and Dining The cafe and bookstore has had everything I've need, there is also fast food nearby and a mall.
Dorm Life No dorms since it's a community college, there are adds around school for room mates and they may have a department that can assist you in finding a room, but I'm not 100% sure.
Academic Rigor Most professors are fair on work load. All of the professors I've taken have offered extra help with office hours, fast reply emails, and extra material for notes. Many also teach at local university's as well, but make a huge effort to divide their time.
Tips for prospective students Take advantage of the awesome staff! Financial aid, and the counseling office have it down to a science so don't be worried about lines, and confused staff, you won't find that here.
In three sentences I have attended almost every LACCD school there is and Pierce is by far the best. Clean, safe, and attractive campus. Friendly, knowledgeable staff AND I've always been able to register for at least two class, which is saying a lot for LACCD. They offer the PACE program which allows me to take 12 units and still be able to work and maintain my non school life, I've yet to have an unsatisfactory professor and would recommend this school to everyone.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck Every once and while you'll get outside sources such as Blood Donation, STD testing, jumpers, college fairs, and more. And did I mention, they are FREE.
What to do for fun Skateboard, play Guitar, and read the Scriptures(yes the bible).
Food and Dining Food truck is pretty popular, other than that you have one student store with a decent variety of snacks and one bookstore where you can find my favorite Arizona Tall cans.
Academic Rigor Not the toughest I've encountered but equally not the easiest. I received a B average last semester and putting little extra effort doesn't hurt.
Tips for prospective students The experience is worthwhile. And for a community college it really has a lot to offer. Be willing and open to receive what Pierce College has in store.
In three sentences College experience at Pierce has been great for me. I was not expecting to receive so much from my professors and colleagues. Attending Pierce College has motivated me to strive for excellence and higher education at a new level.

Dorm Life I do not live on campus.
Academic Rigor I have been challenged in some classes more than other. Overall I have found the work to be moderately challenging at times and boring at others.
Tips for prospective students Carefully review the professors on the various websites that rate professors. Otherwise, go to class and have fun.
In three sentences I have had a very good experience overall. One of my professors was far more interested in selling her book and talking about her life experience than teaching the class. Otherwse, I have enjoyed my time at Pierce.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There is a Halloween Carnival in October. There are also sports events that students can go to. Students can also join clubs or be a part of the Round Up Newspaper published every week during the Fall and Spring.
Food and Dining They do have a dining area in the new library. Unfortunately, it is not open yet. Students can get a snack from the cafe or the food trucks. The food is actually ok.
Dorm Life This college does not have dorms but some of the students put up advertisements for apartments near the college.
Academic Rigor The classes here will get you through the general education requirements.
Tips for prospective students If you are coming here next year, make sure to take AP math and english classes. By doing this, it will save you a lot of time.
In three sentences If you are not sure what to do in your life, this college is for you. It is a great place to try out something new since the tuition is lower than a university. For example, you could get some college credits working as a volunteer in the early childhood center.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is really safe. The sheriffs are always around making sure everyone is safe.
What to do for fun There's the botanical garden where you can go and just sit and relax. I like walking around the campus since it's pretty big. There's the art gallery, you can go up to the art center and check out cool projects fellow college students have done.
Food and Dining Apparently there's suppose to be restaurants but I haven't seen any type of food around other than that food trucks and the Freudian sip coffee place.
Dorm Life There are no dorms on campus.
Academic Rigor I believe that it's pretty easy once you get used to it. The first semester is harsh because you get tons of work but it's worth it at the end and you've learned so much. Some professors are easy and some are hard but majority of them are really nice and understanding.
Tips for prospective students If classes are full and you're planning to crash a course, be there on time and don't give up. Also try looking for the same course at a different college.
In three sentences I would rate pierce college a 9 on a scale from 1-10 because it's a big and bright and welcoming campus. The professors are really nice and understanding. I would recommend this college to anyone who would actually want to go to a community college the first two years.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Sheriff everywhere. Which I am happy to see because so many campuses are dangerous these days, and it's nice to know the police are near in case an emergency comes up.
Greek Life It's a CC, it's nonexistent.
Clubs and Activities Not involved with clubs.
Great for these types of students Transfers to UC colleges.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus It's a working farm, so they have a farmers market and they have animals of all shapes and sizes. I haven't been to the farm side of the campus yet, but I would love to go visit the horses sometime.
Bang for the buck Absolutely. Just under $50 a unit and with financial aid available, it's an absolutely affordable school.
What to do for fun They have plays they put on over at the drama center which is close to the farm area (Mason), films in the student hall, and an open friendly social environment.
Food and Dining The cafeteria remans closed, but alas' does look nice when you look through the windows at it. I am waiting to see when it will open (someone said Spring 2014). They have a lot of tables over at the library on the outside hugging the building that are nice to sit at and of course there are the tables over where the little coffee shop is (but it can be loud over there if you want to have a quiet lunch).
Dorm Life No dorms. It's basically a farm attached to a school.
Academic Rigor I am going for a new career so I am a non-traditional student who is working towards a UC transfer. I find that the school has this odd balance between dedicated students who want to be there and are serious about their grades and young teenagers who are there because their parents made them or they have nothing better to do. A lot of the students there are just out of high school and some of them seem to be the typical lay about burn outs. They pretty much could care less about their grades and mock the students who do. It's disappointing to see these kids wasting their lives, but hey there has to be someone who is qualified to work burger joint jobs.
Tips for prospective students 1. Register early and then check the classes about two weeks before school starts to see if there are any openings. The add culture at the school is like playing the lottery, a lot of professors are strict about keeping their classroom numbers under a certain amount. 2. Get a parking pass and be prepared to spend at least an hour trying to find parking in the first three weeks of a new semester. It usually starts to level out around the third week, with either people dropping classes or switching their schedules around. If you live in the valley, I recommend instead of driving just using the bus, the orange line stops just outside of the school. 3. If taking a music class, it should be noted that the music center is located on the top of a hill served by about 8-9 flights of stairs. When Woodland Hills hits 107 in the summer time those stairs become your worst enemy. I have seen healthy, 19 year old kids almost pass out on them. If you drive, you can just simply drive your car up there to the music center, but it you don't, well the only option are those stairs. 4. It's a non-smoking campus and they are very serious about it.
In three sentences 1. Affordable, and easy to get too. 2. The school has a wonderful new library. 3. All kinds of critters run loose on the property and they have a beautiful botanical garden.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Just stay with your friends and contact with them. Make sure you don't give your information to strangers or anything personal you don't want them to know. And try to keep occupied at all times. And secrurity is all around so whenever your feeling unsafe or just not feeling well they will always be there to help you.
Greek Life It wasn't that much of a geek life
Clubs and Activities There are so many clubs think students would be interested in joining but i never grasped the opportunity to get into a club and join one to see how it was.
Great for these types of students Anything that will get them interested to learn, have fun or find a hobby they like.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Usually id spend my times in the library or outside my classroom waiting for class to start. Or even by the stair ways
Bang for the buck I say in the begging it wasn't the best experience because of some personal issues i had but think after the three years of being there I got used to it and i felt more comfortable in the environment it wasn't as weird. I did pay alot for my books and I recommend the future students to buy thier books always at a cheaper price or online.
What to do for fun I would socialize mostly with my friends on campus we would go out for lunch or just hang out around the school and talk alot. Or if i was bored and alone id go to the library and go on my phone and just chat and text people.
Food and Dining The food was really good bit expensive but those that needed a fast lunch I can definatly say that the food trucks and the stores were always open so you can buy your breakfast, lunch or even dinner.
Dorm Life There isn't really dorms for Pierce College if there was I had no clue there was I live with my parents so I really didn't get a chance to dorm. It depends on each students and how they see it.
Academic Rigor I would have to say it was alright not all the way to the highest of the success I wanted to go but I actually learned alot more. Rather than if I would have gone to a harder college and straight university I would have probably gone back to a Jc after one or two years at the university just to get organized of what I wanted to do.
Tips for prospective students I would say to stay focused on your general classes first. Then worry about what you want to study for so then you get your classes out of the way and once your done you can start to decide what you want to do. Once thats done and your ready to transfer then you can continue on from there.
In three sentences Pierce college is one of the highest that has transfered students to Uc's other universities. It has helped me figure out what I want to do in life and give me like a guide towards where I want to go. So i definatly recomend anyone who attends pierce to start here and then transfer.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Pierce has all the usual fun academic courses- choir, theatre, art, dance, sports, but it has so much more too! We just had a Farm Walk where students and members of the community could get up close and personal with the farm animals and buy fresh produce that our school cultivates! We also have a huge Halloween festival each year that runs for several weeks that has haunted houses, a maze filled with terrifying monsters through the corn field, and some tame activities for the little ones as well.
Food and Dining We have a great coffee shop called the Freudian Sip that also sells pizza and pastries, it's basically my Starbucks on campus. We have a brand new cafeteria opening soon and the rumors are that it will have a Chipotle and a Subway inside (I can't wait)! The student store sells just about every packaged snack and drink you can think of, and there are plenty of snack and coffee machines around the campus.
Dorm Life There are no dorms on campus. There are plenty of inexpensive rooms to rent, and affordable apartment nearby, though. Living in Los Angeles, there is always something to do; you will be constantly entertained!
Academic Rigor The academic rigor of the classes depends on the professor, a lot of classes are really laid back, and geared toward getting you to think about the problems with our society, rather than getting you to remember facts and equations. The honors program is more rigorous, but also allows you to get more personal attention, and it prepares you for transferring. Many of the professors here also teach at CSUN and UCLA.
Tips for prospective students Sign up for your classes early! Due to the smaller sizes, classes fill up quick. Always visit your professors during office hours; building a relationship with them will help you to better understand the class curriculum.
In three sentences The professors at Pierce really care about you, and will help with not only your class, but with wonderful advice in general. The honors program, and most of the classes overall, have a limited number of students so you can get lots of feedback on your work. The campus is beautiful and in the middle of a sprawling farm- it's easy to relax here!

In three sentences Pierce College is a wonderful school for anyone who has goals and very determined to achieve his/her dream career. Due to the high number of students, some of the classes are limited, but this should not stop you from attending school. Pierce offers night classes, and the counselors are very kind and always willing to help students to succeed. Great for these types of students Great for studious people looking to transfer to a 4 year university.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Near the Business Building, there is a fountain that blows steam at some random points within the hour. It reminds you of the Universal Studios sign.
Bang for the buck Spending under $2,000 dollars a year as a full time student is an amazing value for a college education that transfers to UC's and CSU's
What to do for fun Students can go to football, soccer, tennis, baseball, and basketball games. If they don't like sports, there are a myriad of clubs with social events for specific interests.
Food and Dining The new cafeteria is being built so as of right now, the food trucks on campus are the only option.
Academic Rigor Classes at community colleges are notoriously easy. The professors expect much less of you as a student.
Tips for prospective students Register early! Classes fill up fast. Also, arrange to make a meeting with a counselor so they can outline which classes you need to take. Don't forget to arrive early to class to find parking!

Categories Comments Campus Safety There is always a cadet or the Sheriffs department officer around.
Clubs and Activities They are very active! Some host events that everyone can attend to
Great for these types of students Los Angeles Pierce College is for EVERYONE! it's for people who know whats important and that don't mind going to a community college because they understand its about knowledge not just prestige and price. For those whom like to just learn and transfer also. There's a certain joy I got out of transferring because honestly Pierce prepared me for College life.
Bang for the buck When I first got their it was 37 dollars a unit and now it's 47 I believe and then added to that they are increasing the price it's a better option than a super pricey university so for me it was great.
What to do for fun My friends and I go to the library and have a study room to ourselves which means we can study and talk , it's quite fun or I enjoy going up the enormous flight of stairs that leads to the highest point of Pierce which we lovingly called The stairs of death due to the countless students that take many stops to catch their breath but man the view is fantastic.
Food and Dining They are renovating the area so it's still under construction. However, there are a lot of places to go eat wherever you look but it's mostly if you have a car because it gets tedious especially if your in between classes.
Dorm Life I lived 20 ,minutes away but it's not difficult to find an apartment.
Academic Rigor Pierce has gotten better and the teachers have become more passionate about properly teaching since the budget cuts, they value their jobs more.
Tips for prospective students It's a good place to start your college education and you will learn a lot about life. I do suggest that you apply for classes as fast as you can and do not drop them! In regards to the counseling office, I do suggest if you know what major/school you'd like to go to that you contact them and their counseling offices and ask for transfer assistance and tips on what classes to take and so on,
In three sentences Los Angeles Pierce College provides it's students with a nice new campus and the staff is awesome. Categories Comments Campus Safety There's a Sheriff's department right on campus, and chances are you'll see them patrolling every now and then. So long as you keep out of any funny business, you'll find their presence more comforting than threatening.
Clubs and Activities The Clubs at Pierce are great. Each one has its fair share of dedicated individuals who are serious about advancing the cause of their particular club. In an academic environment where advancement is challenging, you can be sure that those who make it their business to make that extra push for clubs are only the most serious and devoted people.
Great for these types of students If you're a casual student who can afford to complete their education at a leisurely pace, then Pierce is perfect for you. The limited choice in classes might not affect you so much if you don't absolutely need to confine yourself to a time frame. The classes here are also very diverse in age and demographic. You'll never feel as though you stand out in class. Unless you want to, that is.
Bang for the buck You need only glance at a school newspaper or stand near the financial office to get a taste of how the students are dealing with the rising costs of education.
What to do for fun If you're bored at Pierce Campus, one of the best things you can do for fun is join a club or people watch. Ingratiate yourself to one of the many well-established cliques. Just walking around you can see and meet some very interesting people. The clubs here are full of like-minded individuals who are not afraid to entertain discussions on anything you care to talk about.
Food and Dining The vending machines are your best bet here. If it's hand packed and sitting on the shelves in the coffee shop for who knows how long, I wouldn't trust it. But the vending machines have a great selection and are placed all throughout the campus. As long as you aren't afraid of microwaveable burritos, you'll be just fine. But you might want to think about packing a lunch.
Dorm Life There is no on-campus housing in Pierce, but there is housing nearby in apartment complexes, and often times there are listings for room rentals around campus.
Academic Rigor I wouldn't say that the rigor of Pierce College Academia comes from the content of the courses or the Professors in particular, but the sheer variety between them is staggering enough for any student. You'll find some classes a breeze with certain Professors and a waking nightmare with others. You can never really anticipate the difficulty of a class until you're in it.
Tips for prospective students If you find yourself at Pierce, then the best thing I can tell you to do is to fight. Fight hard to get your classes, fight hard to stay in them, and fight hard to do well while you're there. If you make the decision to really commit yourself to doing well above all else, you will do well.
In three sentences It's not the happy-go-lucky dream college that you see in the movies. It's no secret that things are tough and you'll find struggles to contend with everywhere you turn. But there's opportunity here, and those who want success and won't let anything stand in their way to get it can find it at Pierce.

Food and Dining Pierce college has a mini cafe called the Freudien Sip. It has pretty good egg and cheese English muffins. They also serve pizza, waffles, coffee, frozen foods, and just easy fast food.
Dorm Life Pierce college does not have dorms.
Academic Rigor Professors are pretty cool. Most are helpful and know what they are talking about.
Tips for prospective students Try to get all the classes you need during your registration date because crashing classes can get really difficult and you may not get the class you need. If you are trying to add a class on the first day make sure to have a list of the classes and know where the rooms are. Get to school early especially the first couple of weeks because finding parking is extremely hard.
In three sentences It's a good college overall, but like most community colleges right now it's extremely packed with students which makes it harder to transfer on time. There's all types of professors easy, hard, nice, strict, etc. It's under construction so it's beginning to look a lot prettier.

Greek Life Unfortunately, Greek life is not an option at Pierce College.
Clubs and Activities There are numerous clubs offered, ranging from religious groups to political debates, and much more.
Great for these types of students Pierce college tends to attract laid-back individuals who prefer social life over academics. However, those motivated to achieve greatness can get a lot out of the school. Students are highly diverse and friendly. I have yet to see discrimination between students and I feel very safe attending Pierce College.
Bang for the buck The school provides you with the education you desire for a minimal fee of $46 a unit. The way you apply yourself really makes the difference.
What to do for fun There aren't much activities on campus, but the surrounding area has plenty of activities such as gyms, malls, restaurants, etc.

Academic Rigor Professors at Pierce try to prepare students for University courses and expect students to really apply themselves. Students that put in the effort and do the required work will pass classes with ease.
Tips for prospective students Once students decide on their major, they should apply themselves and transfer as quickly as possible.

Greek Life No greek life.
Clubs and Activities Lots of clubs to chose from. Sadly, if you email anyone asking about them, it is very unlikely that you will get a response.
Great for these types of students This school is great for students who really have no clue what they want to do as far as major. It is also a great school for the students who didn't do to great in high school and want to redeem themselves now with harder classes and work hard to earn the grades. It is also good for kids who are not ready to leave home.
Bang for the buck Pierce is great if you are having financial troubles. $46 per unit is a great deal in my opinion. They also sell used books for much cheaper than the new ones. There school supplies at their book store is also very reasonably priced.
What to do for fun There is a botanical garden in the middle of the campus. There are benches you can sit on, and a little pond to look at. Very nice if you want to relax between classes!
Food and Dining There are a few different food trucks on campus. One is Mexican (yummy!!), another is Italian, and then there is one that is kind of like hamburgers, tacos, and burritos. There is also a place called the Fruedian Sip. They have coffee drinks, fresh juice, bagels, sandwiches, drinks, ice cream... tons of stuff! You can also get snack at the book store.
Dorm Life No dorms
Academic Rigor It really depends on what classes you take. If you are an English major, then taking science might be very difficult for you, where as English might be a breeze. It also depends on the teacher you have. Some give lots of homework, others only give tests, and some make you write lots of essays.
Tips for prospective students If you are going to attend Pierce College, work hard. Some people thing that community college is easy and does not matter... but the thing is, it really does! You are getting a fresh start, so you can be the best student. If you work really hard, chances are you will get into most schools you apply to as a transfer student.
In three sentences Pierce College is a fresh start for all students coming directly from their high school. If you work hard then you will be very successful. The teacher at Pierce really do care, so make sure you show up, do your work, ask questions, and give it your all.

Academic Rigor Los Angeles Pierce College is up there with other Cal State Universities. Just because it is a community college, the hard work that is put in is or has to be equal to the work in any university.
Tips for prospective students Make a counselors appointment constantly because you always want to on top of what classes you should be taking in order to transfer at a sooner time.
In three sentences Los Angeles Pierce College is trying to create the best learning environment for their students. They have a great faculty that make themselves available for help. They have tutoring services that are outstanding.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Its like my home- extremely safe and secured. Pierce College is equipped with specific phones that connect directly to the on-campus Sheriff's station. If using a payphone, a student may dial *86 and be directly connected to the sheriff there. In case of emergency, there are specific procedures to follow for evacuation, general safety, communication etc... Anyway, there are emergency booklets found in each classroom explaining all these details.
Bang for the buck You really get your money's worth! If you are purchasing books (new or used), you can always sell them back to the bookstore at Pierce College. If you do not plan to spend that much money, you can rent new or even used books for a fraction of the price! There are available scholarships one can apply to, and financial aid. If accepted, your tuition fees are waived, and you'll even receive extra money to pay for books and materials. With all this help, it's almost impossible not to afford college.
What to do for fun For fun? The list is endless. You can join the choir; a sports team; go swimming or play tennis; join the Halloween Harvest Festival or the Winter Arts Festival; be part of a play cast, or the audience watching it! You can even watch movies at the Film Festival.. there are so many things to do, you will never be bored.
Food and Dining My favorite part of this college- the food and dining. First of all, there are always food trucks parked on the streets in the campus. That makes it so convenient for students. There are also several cafes where one can just grab a coffee, a snack or even lunch. Finally, there are vending machines around every corner. Not only for drinks, but also snacks.
Dorm Life Since Pierce College is a two year college, they do not have dorms. However, there are several apartment buildings and home stays in the vicinity of the area.
Academic Rigor So far, i love all my professors. They are hard workers; they make sure everything is clear to us, all homework is assigned, all questions answered, and everything understood. They push us just to point of hard work, but not over. After all, they don't want us to get discouraged!
Tips for prospective students College means being your own person- no more depending on the teacher to help you with grades, or homework. You have control over how you study, and how you organize your schedule. Make sure you simplify your college years by buying all necessary materials like binders, folders, highlighters etc... Plan your daily schedule- when to study, work, go to class, have free time and anything else. If you do have questions, don't hesitate to call the college's main office, or email your professor. If you follow these steps (among others), you will find yourself succeeding.
In three sentences I love how organized the Pierce student online system is; it's user friendly, always updated, and provides students with whatever information is needed. Pierce College is extremely close to my house, and is in the middle of the valley- basically, anyone can go to it. The campus is beautiful, they have updated classrooms, maps of the campus are found everywhere... it's the place to be!

Categories Comments Campus Safety Sheriff is always available and they make the campus feel secure. If anything is needed all you need to do is dial their number.
Clubs and Activities There's not that many clubs. Often there are activities and events that clubs participate in but not many students get involved.
Great for these types of students Great environment for transfer students that are driven and self-motivated. Also great for people who love the outdoors as you will often see squirrels roaming the area.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The campus is at the end of the valley and has many hills.
What to do for fun Try joining clubs and you will meet people like yourself. Also try the local mall and shopping places for added fun. Must try hiking or running around campus- it will get your heart pumping. Must visit the music building to see breathtaking view of the valley.
Food and Dining The campus food is not too amazing. Visit the local shops and dining places for extravagant food.
Dorm Life There are no dorms.
Academic Rigor It really depends upon the classes and teachers that you are taking. Many professors know not to go too easy on students in order to prepare them for the universities which they will transfer to.
Tips for prospective students due to budget cuts many students are not getting the classes they need or the counseling that is essential to graduate on time or transfer. My suggestion is to add classes the first day of the appointment. Also i suggest finding a mentor who can answer all those difficult questions related to transferring or to graduating.
In three sentences A very welcoming community. The campus is beautiful with the hills on one side and a beautiful view of the valley on the other. Great professors who openly receive you and help out during office hours.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Pierce College is a very safe campus! There is a sheriff station located right on campus with police and security constantly patrolling around on campus. There are those blue boxes located in the parking lot with a phone and a button that you can use for an emergency. Pierce is always crowded which can be a good thing when it comes to safety, because most likely you will never be walking alone.
Greek Life No Greek life.
Clubs and Activities Pierce offers many different clubs including academics, culture, and hobbies. You will definitely find a club that is right for you. You can always start your own club as well if you don't find one that is right for you.
Great for these types of students Pierce College is great for students who are starting out. There is nothing wrong going to community college first! It's a great way to save money and still get a college experience. It's a very diverse school with every nationality you could imagine. It's close and convenient and is a safe campus. There is always tons of parking so finding a spot isn't an issue. If you like small, convenient, and local, then this school is for you.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The only tradition I can think of is what I mentioned before, which is the halloween festival they have every year. All ages are welcomed and the prices are pretty reasonable. They have a haunted house, corn maze, booths set up for food and games, farm animals, and bouncy houses for the kids.
Bang for the buck I gave Pierce college 3 stars for best bang for your buck. It is located right in the middle of the valley (Woodland Hills), which is why it's so crowded there. It's very convenient for a lot of the locals to attend. There is also a metro station that picks up and drops off right in front of the school. Due to budget cuts they raise tuition every year, but it's still a lot cheaper than a CSU or UC.
What to do for fun Pierce college has some pretty good sports teams. They always have football and basketball games to watch on campus. They also have a cheerleading squad which is fun to watch while the game is going. Pierce college also has an amazing halloween festival in October. They use the money for admission, games, and food to go back to the school. It's a great creative way for the community to come together and enjoy a fun family atmosphere that is safe for all ages.
Food and Dining I gave Pierce Colleges food and dining 2 stars because there is a small cafeteria and 1 coffee shop on campus, but most likely you won't have time to stop and eat. The main thing at this school since it is community college, is to go to your classes and leave.
Dorm Life I gave Pierce college's dorm life a 1 star rating because they do not offer dorms at this particular school.
Academic Rigor The academics at pierce are overall pretty good. I have taken many math classes at pierce and in that department I feel like they are lacking a little. The math classes seem to rushed and taught only one way which everyone is supposed to understand. Everyone is different and the teachers need to realize that and change there teaching techniques to suit everyone's needs. The science department at pierce is very good! Probably one of the best in it's area. The general ed classes are easy and fit everyone's learning style.
Tips for prospective students The tips I would give for prospective students would be to not limit your options. Apply to as many community colleges as you can because most likely you will have a very hard time getting classes due to the recession and budget cuts. It is always best to have as many options available to you. Visit the campuses before enrolling and see which campus best suits your personality and needs. Apply for financial aid and scholarships because they raise tuition and fees every year. Meet with a counselor every 1 or 2 semesters, that way you are updated on what classes you need to take in order to transfer. Join a club at school and get involved, not only does it look great on your transcripts but you will get to meet new people and make friends. Talk to your teachers, they are there to help you! The more questions you ask and the more involved you are in class the better off you will be. Don't forget to take a minute for yourself relax and breathe, you will reach your goal even though it takes longer now.
In three sentences Academics, I would give Los Angeles Pierce College a 7 on a scale from 1-10. Expenses, I would give Los Angeles Pierce College an 8 on a scale from 1-10. Over all rating for Los Angeles Pierce College I would give a 7.

Bang for the buck buy books on craigslist or online for cheaper prices from past students
What to do for fun Swim or watch tennis
Food and Dining The bookstore and cafe offer variety of goodies
Dorm Life Don't live in dorm.
Academic Rigor Study hard.
Tips for prospective students Register early. Show up on the first day of class or you will be dropped due to the budget cuts and so many students needing to crash classes.
In three sentences I wish that the budget cuts did not affect the number of classes being offered each semester. I find the campus a great place to be. My past professors have been outstanding.

Categories Comments Greek Life I'm not sure what this means.
Clubs and Activities I heard there are a lot of clubs, so I'm going to see if I can join the Martial Arts club, maybe.
Great for these types of students Undecided majors, people that may need financial aid, or have trouble paying for University. There might be a unit limit now, though. So it's not a good idea to take random classes.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There's a really nice turtle pond near the Village and the Science and Technology building, I think. And an area near the art place has a lot of stairs--great for a workout. I heard there's an observatory, so I'm going to check that out sometime.
Bang for the buck Tuition keeps raising, but it's a lot cheaper than C.S.U.N. or the U.C.s
What to do for fun Since it's the Summer there isn't much to do, but I want to attend clubs and some of the events they might have at Pierce, such as Farm Walk. Hopefully the budget cuts don't affect the events too much.
Food and Dining I don't eat the food, but there are food trucks, and they sound good. The workers seem friendly, too. I don't buy food because it can be 5 dollars a meal, so I eat at home. If I got hungry, I would have to walk about a mile to Tampa and Victory. But if you're driving, just watch out for the traffic and you're fine.
Dorm Life I don't dorm. I'm not sure if there are any dorms.
Academic Rigor My classes right now aren't very difficult. I have remedial English though, and that's probably why. The professor asked why I was in that class. Personal Development 40 is basically ideas and concepts you know, but never bother to use. [Even though they're pretty important]. I really like my professors though.
Tips for prospective students Unsure, I'm pretty new myself. If you take the bus, make sure you know when the bus comes and gets there. Or try to remember so you don't have to sit there for an hour waiting.
In three sentences So far, I've been enjoying the campus and the staff/workers have been very friendly and helpful. My professors right now care about the students' education and are willing to aid the students with their needs.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is very safe, there are officers on the campus and the professors are always there for help along with the counselors who are great.
Clubs and Activities There are clubs and organizations for every ethnic backgroud and group which is fantastic. The community is huge and fitting in isn't a problem at all. The school is very active and there are activities going on throughout the year.
Great for these types of students This school is perfect for anyone who wants to save money and enhance their skills before moving on to a University. The school helps everyone regardless of the background and doesn't deny anyone an education. The staff members are so helpful and it's perfect for all types of students.
What to do for fun There are many things to do on the campus, whether it's having an adventure on the campus or going to the gym and playing with your friends. There are many hot spots on the campus to simply sit down and hang out.
Food and Dining The Pierce Cafe is one of the most affordable Cafes i have seen. The food is always fresh, the drinks are always made in front of you and the service is fantastic. There are food trucks all over the campus that serve great affordable food as well. Depending on where your class is located, going to a food truck may be more convenient but the quality of the food is always a hundred percent.
Dorm Life Pierce College does offer dorms for students who want to live on campus; however, the majority of students usually live with their parents or on their own because the campus isn't far. I personally live with my parents and the commute to Pierce isn't bad at all.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor definitely depends on the class he or she takes. No class is going to be easy but some classes may be easier than others. Major related classes are always rigorous as well as many GE classes. Professors don't look after the students like they do in high school and expect the students to show up and get their work done. Taking many units can also raise the stress level because in reality obtaining a higher education is always going to be rigorous. Many people believe that just because it's a college it isn't going to be hard but it is a completely different enviroment from highschool, and it will be challenging.
Tips for prospective students Never assume that going to a college will be easier than a University because it isn't any different. You are on your own and are expected to give it your best all the time. There are many rigorous classes and during finals week you will definitely feel the stress. Always do your work ahead of time and never procrastinate because the results will be drastic.
In three sentences Pierce College deserves a rating of eight out of ten because the college itself does a fantastic job preparing their students for success. It encourages students of all ethnic backgrounds, regardless of their financial status to have the opportunity to learn. The academic background at the college is fairly decent and has a wide range of professors that do their job well.

Food and Dining Pierce has a store and a Freudian Sip.
Dorm Life There are no dorms.
Academic Rigor There are great professors that will open your mind to think outside the box.
Tips for prospective students Every College is the same when it comes to studies. And if you got to Pierce College you will realize that there are great professors that will open your mind to think outside the box.
In three sentences I would say Pierce College is a 9 out of 10. Even though it's a small college, I really like that the use of land is very well kept.

Food and Dining Cafeteria is currently closed so all students are left with very limited options. There is the Cafe and a few food trucks that park on the far side of campus.
Academic Rigor If only all classrooms were filled at all times then the campus would be a 100% in this category. 4 stars for now.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you talk to one of their helpful counselors before the school schedule is open to all students and make sure you add classes on your assigned day and time.
In three sentences The actual campus has come a long way from the time I first visited Pierce College. It is beautiful and the new additions made in the college make the students there feel like their education really is being valued. However, many classes have been getting cut so not as many students get a chance to appreciate the beauty found in the campus and most importantly, they do not get the opportunity to advance in their studies.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is pretty safe. Walking to the classes and the parking lots at night aren't scary. Campus security are always patrolling around, so you do feel safe.
Clubs and Activities There are a variety of clubs on campus that anyone can join.
Great for these types of students Everyone fits in at pierce. One thing i loved was that Pierce was Diverse, and making friends was easy. Everyone minds their own business.
Bang for the buck Tuition is now $46/unit, ( starting summer 12') but it is still cheap compares to the CSU's and UC's. Many people get FAFSA as well.
Food and Dining At pierce they had a great cafeteria, but broke it down and are building a brand new cafeteria. So there are a four food trucks on campus , the Freudian Sip and the Student Store where the students can get their snacks ,drinks, and food.
Dorm Life It is a community college, and a commuter school so there are no dorms.
Academic Rigor It depends on the class and professor you are taking. Most of the classes are challenging, but the professors do help and explain the material well enough. I used ratemyprofessors.com to determine which teachers I would take.
Tips for prospective students I would recommend that one of the first classes to take at pierce is called: Personal Development 40. This class teaches you a lot about your goals, major, career opportunities, transfer requirements and all the opportunities/workshops and help on campus itself. Many of the hidden gems on campus are unknown to students because its a commuter school where students just know or care about the essential information for their classes and go back home. This also a class that counts toward the CSU Breadth. This class helped me a lot and i would definitely recommend it to anyone new coming to Pierce.
In three sentences The professors are knowledgeable and know their material well. The campus has improved a lot, and they are currently building a brand new library, cafeteria and new buildings for the classrooms. The campus has the Orange Line bus station right near it, which drop you off about a 3 min walk to the campus. Many of these professors put in the extra time to grade our work, give helpful feedback but mostly be efficient in teaching the material and communicating the lecture aptly to to class.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There's an on-campus sheriff's department and security officers are all over.
Greek Life It's a community college. So no.
Great for these types of students Anyone who wants to get major prerequisites and general education requirements out of the way before advancing to a more expensive, four-year school. Also people returning to school after any sort of absence.
Bang for the buck It's very cheap. It would be difficult not to get much bang compared to buck.
What to do for fun The downstairs lobby area bit of the library often houses gamers if you want to try to find them. There's also a lot of clubs, some of which are fun, like the film or anime clubs. Also, there's tennis courts which are free to use.
Food and Dining The food court is currently closed for remodeling as of spring 2012, but there is a well-stocked coffee shop, the bookstore has microwaveable goodies and other snacks, and there's very high quality food trucks strewn throughout the campus. (there are also copious vending machines)
Dorm Life It's a community college. There are no dorms.
Academic Rigor It's definitely not as hard as a four year college- sometimes it's easier than high school, due to a lack of busywork. The difficulty of any class IS dependent on the teacher (use Rate My Professor for this). Most teachers are also very helpful despite the huge class sizes.
Tips for prospective students It's the best LACCD school... so don't try to also go to Valley, despite the short bus ride, because it's definitely not worth it. Stick with the best, at pierce. Teachers don't often require you to buy the book for the course, or if they do, will usually let you use a previous (and thus stupidly cheap) edition. So don't waste your money on books. Since the papers at a community college rarely exceed six pages (double spaced), take advantage of this opportunity to learn how to write college papers without needing to worry about filling up ten or twenty pages. REGISTER EARLY. Classes fill up very, very fast.
In three sentences As community colleges go, it's excellent. It's still just a stepping stone to a real university though. And remember, ALWAYS REGISTER EARLY.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Along with the construction renovations that are going on in the school, camppus safety has greatly improved over the last few years, making Pierce a better, safer place than ever. There's a sheriff's station on the edge of campus, and the officers are constantly driving up and down the school's roads.
Clubs and Activities There are endless clubs you can join, or you can create your own! The Welding Club is the latest addition to the list, joining the K Circle, Jewish Club, and dozens of others!
Great for these types of students It's great for those who are on a tight budget, or are working part time or full time.
Bang for the buck At $46/unit (as of Fall 2012), you are definitely getting your dollar's worth any way. If money is tight, there is still some financial aid, and you can always buy used textbooks or rent them--the school bookstore offers both.
What to do for fun There aare several things you can do around campus, the least of which is to go to the Music Department's concerts and the Drama performances! The location of the college allows us to have our own little hiking trail and farm. So if you feel like taking a walk, you can do either one! (Just make sure you bring water, and you have some time to spare.) There are also plenty of events hosted by the student council, and endless of clubs to join.
Food and Dining There are several food carts parked around the campus, so students can have the choice between different kinds of foods that are actually not that expensive. The Freudian Sip Cafe is a small little joint that offers some food, like sandwiches, sushi, bagels, croissants, etc., along with your daily fix of caffeine, and is also very reasonably priced.
Dorm Life There are some apartments up for rent on the outskirts of the campus, but they are not part of the school.
Academic Rigor Any stereotype regarding junior colleges being less than average is not true. If anything, what makes community colleges so great is the fact that they allow people of lesser means to obtain the education they want without having to break the bank. There are amazing teachers there that are just as qualified to teach as the teachers at four-year school.
Tips for prospective students Don't be too discouraged if it is hard to get classes. It is actually not as bad as people say it is--but you must be persistent if it comes down to crashing courses. Don't do the shopping for classes thing when you add a bunch of classes and then pick and choose which one you want and which you can drop, because you are still robbing someone else of the opportunity to be in the class. Pierce College is still college, so buy your books (used books are GREAT!) , do your homework, and aim for success!
In three sentences Pierce College is just as good as any other college. There are great teachers there that provide you with the same education you can get elsewhere for much less! It is the smart choice for anyone who wishes to save money without forsaking education.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Good lighting at night, laid-back student population, sheriff on campus...I've never felt unsafe here.
Clubs and Activities Join sociology club! It's headed by some brilliant professors.
Great for these types of students Students who are: self-motivated, goal-oriented, and genuinely interested in learning and self-improvement.
Bang for the buck Best deal in California education.
What to do for fun There are a lot of clubs, but it's really an academically focused school since the ultimate goal is to help you transfer as quickly as possible.
Food and Dining Freudian Sip has got some good coffee, and if you're into cheesy pop songs from the 90's (i.e. Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls) you'll enjoy the atmosphere.
Academic Rigor Some classes are easy, some require a little more work. It's easy to find out what you're in for though through ratemyprofessor.com (almost all the professors have been rated multiple times). Most of them are academically enriching though.
Tips for prospective students Don't believe the smack talk that snooty people say about this school. They have no idea what they're missing. And if your high school teacher says anything negative about it--I'd be willing to bet they're just jealous they couldn't get hired there. There are a few mediocre teachers at Pierce (like any school) but the majority are caring, passionate, and wise folks. Also, make sure you nag the counseling office until you get all the information you need for transferring (because they don't just hand it to you--you need to ask questions, ideally in your first semester).
In three sentences Pierce College is full of amazing teachers. I feel like I got a four year school education here at a community college price. It's honestly the best community college in the area and if you're dedicated, you can get a truly enriching experience.

Clubs and Activities The is a student body called ASO and a honor society called Alpha Gamma Sigma Pi.
Great for these types of students For those who did not accepted to the university of their choice after high school, L.A. Pierce allows many to have an increased chance on attending many of the universities in California.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a lot of construction occurring right now so many classrooms are not accessible right now.
Bang for the buck This school has a excellent tuition so that students can save money before the transfer to a prestigious university such as UCLA. The books are quite expensive which is typical for most colleges. However, prices for tuition has been increasing steadily over the past couple years.
What to do for fun There are many clubs one can join and meet other students. There is also many fun activities located in the Los Angeles area such as the beach or amusement parks.
Food and Dining A new cafeteria is being constructed and will open for the Fall of 2012. Food is available at the student store, food trucks, and cafe. The cafe food is somewhat overpriced for the quality but it is a convenient option for many students.
Dorm Life L.A. Pierce is a community college so almost all students commute from all over Los Angeles.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor is not as intense as a four-year university, but one may choose to be the Honors program which is more intense. However, balancing school with work or other activities may be a challenge in maintaining a high GPA at L.A. Pierce. It is honestly easier than high school for most because classes are based on a semester system so it is at a faster pace than high school for most, but at a slower pace than colleges on the quarter system.
Tips for prospective students Plan early and be prepared to compete with numerous of other students trying to take the same classes you need to graduate or transfer.
In three sentences As a community college in the suburbs of the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles, L.A. Pierce College is located in a central location to the many shops, malls, the beach, and downtown Los Angeles. L.A. Pierce provides numerous majors for those who want their associate degree and for those who want to transfer to a four-year university such as UCLA or CSUN. However, due to budget cuts, obtaining the classes needed to transfer is the greatest burden of attending this college.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck Despite the recent tuition hikes, as compared with nearby colleges such as CSUN, Pierce is definitely affordable, especially if you have your financial aid done and regularly updated.
What to do for fun There are a number of clubs and organizations of multiple interests available for your enjoyment at Pierce College. Other than that, there is a large shopping center complete with a few good restaurants just a bus ride down the street.
Food and Dining The cafeteria leaves a bit more to be desired. The food isn't as dull as burger, fries, and pasta--they do have an interesting-enough selection to choose from, but the quality and taste of the food is just as comparable as to your high school cafeteria's. If there is anything from the Pierce cafeteria that I actually like, it's the chicken tortilla soup. Aside from the school cafeteria, they also have food trucks that stay around the campus ranging from Mexican street food to barbecued goods. If the cafeteria doesn't quite appeal to you, you can always turn to the food trucks, which usually doesn't fail to satisfy.
Dorm Life Pierce College is a community college, so no dorm experiences can be shared.
Academic Rigor The difficulty of classes always depend on the person's capabilities, interests, and his or her major. In my case, I compared my experience in Pierce classes to those back in high school, and since I've taken multiple AP courses, I don't see as much challenge in Pierce classes as compared to the rigor I had to endure back in high school. However, a handful of professors do require a sufficient amount of work to be done in the student's part in order to pass a class. It's not recommended to go soft when taking a class with an easy professor because you'll never know when you'll get a much more demanding one--each professor has different teaching methods, after all. Overall, I'd say Pierce College has classes that are just as rigorous as regular or Honors high school courses--they demand just enough from the student in order to achieve in the course.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to get all your financial aid materials together because with any sort of financial aid, an education at Pierce can be very affordable. It's also important to set a goal while attending Pierce, whether it's obtaining an Associate's or transferring to a four-year or a vocational school--keep track of your GE's and other courses required for your major in order to make your stay as short as possible, as it will certainly save you money and time. While keeping priorities in mind, also take an intersession or a semester to try out a class of your interest--community college is all about experimenting, and Pierce offers a wide arrange of classes that are worth trying and may pique your interest. And a final note, before registering for classes, always compare the prospective professors on ratemyprofessor.com first, as some professors at Pierce are definitely better than others.
In three sentences Pierce College is a great starter for those straight out of high school who either need more time to make decisions on four-year colleges or majors, or are not ready to take on the financial stress of a four-year college education. Despite the recent tuition hikes, it's relatively affordable as compared to nearby four-years such as CSUN. The recent renovations have also made it a beautiful and very enjoyable campus to stroll around, making it much more enjoyable and motivating to go to class each day.

Categories Comments Food and Dining Food is not that great at Los Angeles Pierce College. It has a mini Cafe where students can get the basic drinks, and a few actual foods such as pizza, bagels, sandwiches, and hot wings. If it had fast food restaurants, it would be awesome! There are couple restaurants not far from the school students go to because of the poor food and dining; if not that, students simple bring their own lunch
Dorm Life There is no Dorms available at Pierce College; therefore living with the parents and or living with a friend(s) will be the choice to go with. I think that dorms at Pierce College would be a great thing to have; maybe students will study more and feel that they have a purpose since they will be close to school.
Academic Rigor This issue is everywhere; some students do well in school while other tend not to. I believe it is the students responsibility to do well if they want to succeed. As of reviews, I have noticed Los Angeles Pierce College has pretty high rates on transferring rates; therefore, academic rigor should be a plus!
Tips for prospective students As any student entering a college or university, they should be aware that it is up to the student to keep tract of their schedules at all times. Nobody will be pushing you to get good grades like counselors at high schools do. Self motivation will be the number one tip for a student entering college.
In three sentences Los Angeles Pierce College is an amazing school filled with friendly and dedicated professors who will go beyond to give their students the education they need. This School also has counselors, health offices, and what not for all students who need that extra boost. Although Pierce College can use some remodeling for bigger class rooms, this school is perfect for any student who wants to achieve in life.

Food and Dining Limited food choices on campus. There is one food eatery and numerous food trucks to service the students and faculty while on campus. Nothing too exciting.
Dorm Life No dorms at Pierce
Academic Rigor Your professors expect you to perform to high standards and you're treated like an adult and not a kid as we were in high school.
Tips for prospective students Tips for prospective students: know the major you want to pursue is good cause then you can get a jump start for your major.

Great for these types of students good for all types, if you are willing to study. i don't mean an extraordinary amount, but if you are willing to spend a couple of hours studying per class hour, you will do fine.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus the campus started as an agricultural college. the classes are not too far apart yet the campus is on a beautiful hill with cows, hiking trails, a beautiful cactus garden and spectacular views of the san fernando valley.
Food and Dining the treudian sip has a good variety of croissants, coffee etc. there are a couple of food trucks. otherwise it is off-campus as they closed the cafeteria last year.

Academic Rigor it all depends on your classes and what you make of it. besides the obvious: bio, chem, physics, calc, etc classes are just like a uc. not as harsh grade wise but the teachers are great! pierce makes it easy to get used to college professors.
Tips for prospective students make sure you have speak to a counselor. join the ags society if you are an academically driven student. make sure you select your classes on your registration date or you will regret it!

Categories Comments Campus Safety the whole campus has a warm feel to it. if there is one change to make it would be to light the main parking lots better at night. some people have night classes that get out around 10 and have to walk to their car in a not so well lit parking lot
Great for these types of students if you are serious about getting a higher education and might not yet know what you want to do, then this school is perfect for you to weigh your options.
Bang for the buck i went straight to a uc from high school and found myself moving back home to get credits from pierce college. the main difference i found and was pleasantly surprised about was that the faculty and staff and pierce are more personable and caring. during class, i felt like the professor was talking directly to me rather than just a mass of students. they know how to get on the same level as their students and that comfort and connection is something that could make or break a student's success.
What to do for fun the school has an infinite list of clubs and organizations to join as well a athletic teams.
Food and Dining the freudian sip coffee shop is very good and not to mention cost efficient, which is great for us college students. multiple vending machines, a cafeteria, and food trucks can be found all over the campus.
Dorm Life there are no dorms on this campus
Academic Rigor i've come to find that the classes i've taken here and right in the same educational credibility as those i've taken at a uc. you don't waste time learning about the unimportant things. you walk away from the class really grasping what the class what meant to teach you.
Tips for prospective students be sure to stay on top of what's going on through your student portal. seeing a counselor is probably the most beneficial thing you could do here. if you have questions, be sure to talk to anyone in the offices as well are your professors; they really want to help make the college process easier for you!
In three sentences friendly and encouraging environment with helpful educational and financial resources in every building. the newly renovated campus is beautiful and gives you a comforting feeling about being there. the classes and professors actually care and go the extra mile to help you succeed.

Bang for the buck For $26 dollars a unit you get so much especially in the horse science department! I am taking a 16 week riding class and it only cost me $26. If I was taking lessons at a riding barn it would be over $500! That is serious bang for your buck!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Broke students, students looking for vocational programs, students that don't want to 'waste' money at another school just to take their GE or figure out their major, and anyone that wants a low-risk learning environment.
Tips for prospective students Stay focused, don't think of Pierce as being a mark of failure. And remember, the two years it takes to transfer also turn into a degree. If you're your at Pierce as part of the vocational programs, don't let the academic kids stress you out; While Pierce might not be the best 'academic' school, it's really on it about its vocational programs and is one of the best schools in the state for Equestrian Medicine, as shown by their decently sized on-campus fields and stables. Basically, remember that this is another step in your life, not the end of the line.
Bang for the buck This is the REASON I went to Pierce. With financial aid assistance, I was almost making money off of being there. I was able to save up some money to keep myself comfortable and plan out my UC expenses with the money I was able to save by going to Pierce. Definitely the cheapest education you can get, and with its tremendous transfer rate, you have to wonder why so many people AREN'T going to Pierce.
Did enjoy being here There's definitely a climate of rejection and under achievement, people seem to accuse each other of being at the community college level because they 'couldn't go anywhere else.' Too many people think being at Pierce is already a mark of failure. I graduated from Pierce with a two year degree in exactly two years and I am beyond thrilled about my time there, but I know its not the case for everyone. I definitely had fun, and I definitely made life-long friendships. The trick is to not see it as a dead end, because it isn't one.
Did learn a lot You'd be surprised how many quality professors have dedicated themselves to this community college. Theres a few gems in every department, most definitely. Class sizes are small, and now that I'm at a UC I actually think the large class sizes are are really detrimental to my learning process. Regardless of whether or not your professor has a Pulitzer or studied at Harvard, being able to have one-on-one conversations with your educator is crucial.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Los Angeles Pierce College does attract some lackluster students who seem to just laze around in life, but the majority of the student populace is filled with individuals who know what they want to do/where they want to be, and who know how to take advantage of the opportunities at Pierce to their fullest in order to achieve their goals.
Tips for prospective students To the majority of freshmen who are either thinking about or deciding to attend, whether it be because of financial need or because college applications did not work out very well, I wholeheartedly believe that Los Angeles Pierce College will not disappoint you. Pierce continues to expand and grow to this day and will undoubtedly further its reputation as one of the best community colleges to transfer out of in California; make the resources provided here a stepping stone to greater opportunities in the future.
Bang for the buck The hot word of the year appears to be recession, and the word is impacting Los Angeles Pierce College pretty significantly, as unit prices have tripled from $20 each to $60 each. Though this raising of prices is very drastic for some, the overall tuition is still negligible compared to most private, and even most public universities. If you play your cards right, then you will receive a university-level education at a community college price.
Am enjoying being here I really enjoy how the atmosphere at Pierce is very laid-back and placid; rushing, tension, and stress are practically nonexistent here. Though some view Pierce as a place of last resort, this sort of thinking only bolsters elitism and sets one up for an eventual fall. Attending Pierce allows those yearning for a second chance to become humble and even more diligent, and in doing so, steadily rise to the top.
Am learning a lot It goes without saying that every learning institution has its share of poorly-coordinated, poorly-tempered, or just poor quality instructors. Even though Los Angeles Pierce College is no exception, the amount of knowledgeable, organized, well-mannered, and dedicated professors far outweighs the rare poorfessor; the marine biology program at Pierce College is particularly lauded, and, speaking from personal experience, it is my opinion that Dr. Wells is one of the best professors I have ever had.
