Some of the best advice I received was to get involved. Before the first day of school is a mix-and-mingle where freshmen can walk around and get to know about all of the organizations on campus; this is a good way to network and obtain club meeting schedules. Also, going to a professor's office for help in a class is also very helpful and improves relationships between the student and professor.

visit the campus to get a feel whether the university is right for you. you'll know when you've found the right campus, and i had the feeling when i went to tech. importantly, try to get a newer dorm if you can afford the higher price--the newer dorms are worth spending a little extra money since you will be spending a lot of time in it.

Keep up with all the deadlines for registration, housing and scholarships. The best way to keep up is to get a planner. You will run into the problem of WiFi and it is very frustrating at times. Just go to class and study!
