Email and Postal Addresses on the FAFSA
Email addresses, postal mail addresses and telephone numbers listed on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) are used by colleges, state agencies and the U.S. Department of Education to contact applicants to confirm FAFSA data. Accordingly, the contact information on the FAFSA must remain good through the end of the admissions and financial aid application period.
If a student does not have a stable email address, he or she might consider opening a separate email account just to be used for receiving information from the colleges and universities. Free email accounts can be obtained from gmail.com and hotmail.com. These accounts can be configured to forward email to a student’s main email account. They also can be accessed through the web.
Do not use a student’s campus address as the permanent mailing address. The student’s college address is temporary and can change. Homeless students should ask the college’s financial aid administrator whether they should use a shelter address or their college address.
Use 00000 as the zip code for foreign addresses.
