Categories Comments Campus Safety there are always a couple muggings a year on campus. willimantic has a lot of dangerous people and those people always stumble on campus every once in a while
Greek Life no greek life
Clubs and Activities fair amount of clubs and activities and fairly easy to create one
Great for these types of students none
Bang for the buck eastern is very stingy. library is barely opened on weekends. the dining hall closes at 7:30 every week night so if you do not have a kitchen, you are forced to order out. it is only opened for like 7 hours a day on the weekend. gym is is barely opened on saturday. it is almost like they encourage kids to go home on the weekends.
What to do for fun nothing around the area. willimantic is a very old town with not many fun things to do. freshmen are not allowed to have cars so they are stuck on the campus. house parties with fellow classmates use to be the fun things to do on weekend. but eastern has recently made it a priority to stop house parties at all cost. which means trying its best to get anyone involved arrested.
Food and Dining hurley is not good.......
Dorm Life suites are okay. traditional are kind of nasty. either way, you do not get your moneys worth in these dorms for what you are paying
Academic Rigor academics are not challenging but easy either. it is a liberal arts school so be prepared to take more than 5 classes outside your major that you have no interest about.
Tips for prospective students do not come here! eastern is very hypocritical and does what ever it can to get the most money. most people do not graduate in 4 years. eastern is now trying push students to receive a maximum penalty for having an off campus house party (jail for a year; allowing underage drinking). i have spent 4 years here, and eastern is changing for the worse.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Many blue light systems, police are good and friendly for the most part.
Greek Life N / A
Clubs and Activities So many clubs, and the ability to start new ones.
Great for these types of students Very good for LGBT+ students, the Pride room is always open and full of resources.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The church building is nearly never open.
Bang for the buck A bit expensive in tuition as is the case at all universities, but professors don't assign their own hundred-dollar books that are revised every year for double the cost for the sake of a sentence or two.
What to do for fun Tons of clubs and always activities going on. Rooms like the cafe and the Pride room are nearly always open!
Food and Dining Though it's not a home cooked meal the food is very good for that made to feed as many people as it does. Many options, many one can make on one's own.
Dorm Life Aside from the expected noise on the weekends, dorms are clean, quiet and always have some activity or another going on in the common rooms, sometimes with animals or food.
Academic Rigor Professors excel at their subjects
Tips for prospective students Do your work, all of it.
In three sentences Very small in a way that there's enough room but no one's getting lost all the time. Lots of support for students, if you're able to wait for it. Nice professors.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus is located in a really bad neighborhood but there is always campus security patrolling and the blue light system here is really good. I feel pretty safe, especially since students tend to come together during times of uncertainty at ECSU.
Greek Life There is no Greek life. This is pretty sad because there's not a lot of partying or other fun stuff going on, but our Campus Activity Board does its best to compensate.
Clubs and Activities There are tons of clubs, from the school newspaper to a Doctor Who club, so you're bound to find something you like.
Bang for the buck I love Eastern, it's affordable and definitely my home.
What to do for fun There's usually something going on, but you're going to want to make some friends pretty quick in order to have fun at the activities.
Food and Dining The food in our dining hall is pretty bad, but if you want to eat at the student center that is a possibility and the food there is good. There's also a library cafe where you can pick up snacks.
Dorm Life Depends on the other people on your floor. I know people from other floors that hang out on my floor because we have all the cool and fun people.
Academic Rigor Classes that you expect to be hard are hard, and vice versa.
In three sentences Very friendly and fun student life. Professors are good at their jobs. It feels very homely.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is really good at their job. Day or night you'll see them patrolling. Makes you feel safe and secure while on campus
Greek Life No greek life currently
Clubs and Activities There are many different clubs to choose from and they all take themselves seriously. If you like to knit theres a club for that, and if you like to do yoga theres a club for that. Definitely something to look into if your interested in getting involved with the campus.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The student center is a great alternative to the dining hall. They have several different food options like pizza, subs, bagels, ice cream, and sushi. It's also a really great place to meet up with friends and get homework done. The gym and movie theatre is also located there. Day or night, the student center is never not busy. Eastern is also building a new fine arts building currently. Anyone who is interested in fine arts, it looks really promising and many students cant wait for it to open up. The town outside of the school really isn't safe. I wouldn't recommend going off campus without a friend, regardless of if its day or night.
Bang for the buck I'm an out of state student, so I'm not really sure what in state students pay. Out of state tuition can be a tad pricy. For all out of state students reading this, if Eastern gives you decent scholarship money, I say take it.
What to do for fun To be up front, Eastern is NOT a party school. It's a dry campus, so if your looking for that your best options are to go off campus or to UConn, which is only 15 minutes away. If your not a big partier however, Eastern provides a lot of on campus activities every weekend, and for what its worth they really are fun if you go and get involved.
Food and Dining The dining hall is the one thing I dislike here. The dining hall isn't open throughout the day and the choices are VERY repetitive. If your a picky eater, good luck. The food is also very infamous for making people sick.
Dorm Life As far as freshman dorms go, Mead and Constitution are really the two nicest ones. Theres a lot of freshman dorms to choose from, if your interested in living with more than just one person and you want your own toilet and shower I suggest requesting one of these dorms. As far as upperclassman dorms go I don't know much about them, but from what I've heard their really nice.
Academic Rigor This depends really on what your major is. Regardless of what class your having trouble in however, Eastern provides a really great tutoring center. You'll never feel stuck or lost if you just ask for help.
In three sentences Eastern is a great school for all types of people. No matter who you are, theres a spot for you here. Eastern has a really friendly atmosphere that does a great job of making you feel welcome.

Categories Comments Campus Safety You can't walk very far on campus without seeing a campus police officer driving around. We also have blue phones, in which if you are in danger you press the button and within 30 seconds, an officer will be at your location to help. Dorms are always locked. Officers will also give you a ride around campus late at night if you do not feel safe walking.
Greek Life We don't have Greek life and honestly I don't see a need for it.
Clubs and Activities JOIN THE CAMPUS ACTIVITY BOARD!!! There are over 100 clubs as of now, and every year more clubs are created by students, so if you don't see something you like, create a club!
Great for these types of students Students who like to be involved Need a small class size Need involved professors, no teaching assistants.
Bang for the buck A cheaper school that offers a TON of things for students. Very well worth it.
What to do for fun The campus activity board (which I am a part of) puts on around 90 events a semester for students. Other clubs and organizations also put on events, so you're looking at about 100+ events a semester. There's a movie every Tuesday. There are also shuttles to a strip mall, and walmart. Within walking distance there are small stores, such as a cupcake place, and many restaurants.
Food and Dining It's a college. There's a variety of food, but maybe some stuff you don't always like. It happens! I never starve.
Dorm Life LIVE IN A TRADITIONAL DORM AS A FRESHMAN!!! Sure, the suites are nice, but living in a traditional dorm allows you to meet many more people and create lasting friendships and bonds. Upperclassmen dorms are all basically like mini apartments, which is really nice. RA's are always nice and willing to be there for you if you need it.
Academic Rigor It depends on what classes you take. Some class, such as your First Year Experience (a class all new students must take, on various categories, that prepare students for their college classes) are meant to be easier, but I have taken my fair share of classes that really make me work!
Tips for prospective students Take advantage of small class sizes and professor's office hours! They will definitely help you and help you succeed. Get involved! Whether it be a club, the activity board, SGA, or a sport, do it! It won't be a waste of time and will help you meet new people, and learn new skills.
In three sentences Lots of opportunities to get involved and be a part of something. Professors really want you to succeed. A small community where you feel like you are really involved.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Not the safest campus because of location but the police are always around and the blue light system helps morale.
Greek Life There is no greek life at eastern.
Clubs and Activities There is lots to do at Eastern and it is easy to get involved but you have to assert yourself in order to do so and meet people.
Food and Dining Food is not that great and takes a while for the stomach to adjust to it.
Dorm Life Pretty standard, if you're living in a suite, those people will most likely be the only ones you meet because most don't have their doors open but if you live in a traditional setting then you will meet plenty of new people.
Academic Rigor Not the hardest classes, but this can be expected from a state school
In three sentences Eastern has a very beautiful campus, not in the best area, but still a great size and visually pleasing. The community at Eastern is less than welcoming despite this size which is disheartening; however, the classes are not hard and you will find your way and where you belong.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Between campus police and many emergency stations, campus is very safe. The surrounding area of Willimantic can be rather dangerous at night however and students are advised to take note.
Greek Life Eastern does not have fraternities or sororities, there is however a Greek Life club which emulates this lifestyle.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs at Eastern and with a very accessible club fair, all clubs are easy to join and on display. These range from club sports like Ultimate Frisbee and Football to activity clubs such as Outdoor Adventures and Martial Arts to volunteering clubs, economic and political clubs as well as the Visual Arts Club and even a Knitting Circle. All clubs are free to participate in, with the activity fee built into every student's tuition.
Great for these types of students Students that enjoy smaller class sizes would do well at Eastern. While there is not necessarily much one on one time in class, smaller sizes allow students to seek help during office hours with greater availability. Additionally, students that struggle academically in certain subjects can easily find tutors on almost any schedule. Eastern has many programs such as the free writing and math centers to help students succeed.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus At orientation, students make a wish at the wishing well for the next four years and upon graduation this is brought back up.
Bang for the buck Many courses transfer seamlessly to larger, more ecpensive schools such as UCONN. At a significantly lower cost, this displays the value of instruction given at Eastern.
What to do for fun There are a lot of clubs that pay for on and off campus events. This is one of the best ways to make new friends and enjoy yourself.
Food and Dining Eastern sources a large portion of food locally and has a variety of meal options for students. Between a small grocery store in the Library Cafe, Starbucks Coffee in the student center and the Hurley Dining Hall, there are many choices for food. In addition the small city of Willimantic has many dining options from Chinese to Italian to seafood. There are many popular fast food franchises too such as Dunkin' Donuts, Burger King, Dominoes and McDonald's within walking distance, very popular during finals week.
Dorm Life With both suitemates and roommates in most rooms, there is plenty of company and lots of opportunity to meet people outside the classroom.
Academic Rigor Assignments and tests can be difficult but teachers and tutors make them easy to succeed on, should students apply themselves and utilize these resources.
Tips for prospective students 1. Midway through the semester final projects and term papers will usually be assigned and due the same week. Do not procrastinate to avoid a five or six paper week. 2. Everyone is leaving their friends and are eager to meet new ones, so don't be afraid to branch out. 3. Do not be afraid to push yourself outside your comfort zone. No one knows your past and everyone is very accepting. This is the perfect time to try new things whether working out at the free gym or taking part in an artistic club.
In three sentences The faculty is very accessible, helpful and friendly. Classes are engaging and easy to succeed in if a student applies themselves. There is a variety of interesting clubs available, free of charge.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus Safety is pretty good. We have our own police department, and the Willimantic Police Department's location is not very far away. Police are always roaming campus to make sure everyone is safe. However, it is an open campus therefore anyone can enter the premises. The halls are accessible only to the students with fobs programmed for that specific hall.
Greek Life Non-existent on campus
Clubs and Activities There are quite a few clubs and activities, though some seem to be very similar. Plenty of ways to get involved.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus All freshmen during orientation will make a wish upon a penny and throw it into the fountain outside of the student center. a popular location on campus is the arboretum.
Bang for the buck For in-state students is a good school to go to in order to save money. The education is worth the save. However, out-of-state students should not attend because the extra tuition would be better off spent at a private institute.
What to do for fun Every third Thursday from April to September Main Street comes ALIVE with festivities for the whole community. The short walk to Dairy Queen is always a favorite from September-November and April-May when the location is open. Year round activities include adventuring to Thread City for Breakfast, Cafe Mantic for lunch, The Brewery for Dinner, and A Cupcake for Later as a early dessert. All four places are located on Main Street. Plus a campus shuttle runs every evening Monday-Friday to Walmart and the East Brooke Mall.
Food and Dining For Freshman, Hurley Hall is okay. Every year they are working on improving the quality of food. It is slowly getting better. An alternative option, that it slightly more expensive, is the student center. In the student center is a bunch of food vendors that have a variety of options and taste pretty good. Upperclassmen dorms with kitchens are the way to go as long as you don't mind cooking yourself food.
Dorm Life Each dorm is very different. For freshman, traditional style living is better because you can make friends easier since you are interacting with each other more. For upperclassmen, the nicer dorms are better. No matter what grade you are in, get involved in RHA! Resident Hall Association is a great way to meat people in the dorm and have activities that you would enjoy participating in.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor depends on your major and the professors you are assigned. Some students have a very low academic rigor for whole semesters at a go, while others are swamped for an entire semester.
Tips for prospective students Get involved on campus without over loading yourself. Balance fun with work. Reach out to the services available on campus like: academic services center, counseling, advising, health services.
In three sentences A school with a variety of course levels for students. Wonderful on campus living for those that choose to get involved. A state school with expected complications.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Eastern has a text alert system in the case of any emergencies. There are very few crimes committed on campus annually. While I have been at Eastern, there have been some cell phone thefts, but that is the most extreme case of unsafe behavior I have heard of on campus. There are several police officers for Eastern's campus specifically, as well as Willimantic police in the area for further protection.
Greek Life There is no Greek Life at Eastern.
Clubs and Activities There are several clubs offered at Eastern that cater to nearly every possible interest group. These clubs sponsor trips which heighten the academic experience and also offer great resume builders.
Great for these types of students Eastern is great for students looking to live on campus or commute not very far from home. Many students go home for the weekend, leaving the campus relatively empty, so I wouldn't recommend students who are out of state to attend Eastern.
Bang for the buck I think that Eastern is great for its relatively low price. Although compared to other universities, the quality of education isn't as good, Eastern is still a quality school. For what students are paying, they most definitely get their money back. I ended up going for free my first year because I received a large Pell Grant and other scholarships. My sophomore year, tuition went up and aid went down, but I still did not have to take out many student loans.
What to do for fun Eastern offers several clubs at no extra cost. Meetings are usually weekly and club members develop close relationships with one another. There are several service learning and community service opportunities, which allow the student to become connected to the community. I have volunteered at local schools and homeless shelters, and the experiences were great. Eastern hosts discussions in the Student Center which are usually on very interesting topics, such as political events or sexuality. Class trips are planned, such as day trips to the Museum of Modern Art or environmental clean up in other countries. There are several movie nights and coffee houses for creative writing or music events. Eastern's theater students usually perform two plays a semester and do small events in between. Famous musicians visit Eastern a few times each semester.
Food and Dining Eastern's meal prices can be overpriced, but the food is good. There is a cafe located in the library as well as a dining area in the Student Center. The products are almost always of high quality and are made quickly for on-the-go students. Hurley dining hall food is not as good as what is offered at the cafes on campus and meals can become very repetitive.
Dorm Life I cannot answer this question because I never lived in a dorm on campus.
Academic Rigor I believe that courses at Eastern could be much more challenging. The professors are good, but there is minimal course work assigned throughout the semester. In many classes I've taken at Eastern, there are usually only exams or quizzes and medium length papers. I think that more assignments and research projects could help students apply their learning to real life experiences and get more out of the college experience.
Tips for prospective students I would recommend that students who are looking for a local and affordable college seriously consider Eastern. It is a good school and since it is small, everyone knows each other and many develop close friendships. Professors are almost always easy to talk to and willing to meet during office hours to help students understand the course material or discuss grades. Social life in Willimantic, Connecticut, where Eastern is located, can be fun if you're willing to explore the area. There are local parks, family owned restaurants, ice cream stands, and a monthly street festival which operates in the Spring, Summer, and Fall.
In three sentences Eastern is a small state school with class sizes ranging from around ten to forty students, giving the classroom a more personal perspective. Students and professors are from of a wide age range and have diverse ethnicity and religious backgrounds, which provide unique points of view during lectures. There is an average number of academic programs for major and minors degrees, of which the quality of education is good.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Although the crime level is low. campus police presence are very evident.
Clubs and Activities social work club, The campus is very supportive of the students and any issues. A variety of activities are offered on campus
Great for these types of students liberal arts curriculum those who are going away from home for their first year those who want a Masters Degree in 5 yrs
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The most unusual tradition is the Legend of the battle of the frogs. There are a lot of statues of frogs in town. The story is this: The town of Windham, next to Willimantic, in 1754 at the time of French/Indian war was over run with frogs. These frogs in the middle of the night made an overwhelming noise and everyone in town thought they were being attacked by the indians. The town sent three emmisaries to surrender only to find out that they were not being attacked by the Indians but rather were over run with frogs.
Bang for the buck Living on campus is expensive. The cost of food you are required to pay out freshman year is a lot of money. Although you do have several selections to choose from at each meal, I do not find most of the food appealing.
What to do for fun Bus into town for shopping for various needs. Eastern offers a variety of on-campus fun events to attend.
Food and Dining not impressed with the food at all.
Dorm Life kind of crowded. was a little hard getting used to living with so many people!
Academic Rigor pretty intense in courseload.
Tips for prospective students attend and pay attention to the informational meetings before you start school here. lot of programs for students to relax and have fun at.
In three sentences Great campus and supportive staff. I chose it for being a liberal arts college. I love being at Eastern, there is a lot to do and a lot of courses to choose from.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Every week there is some sort of special event held in the BTR room. There are comedians who stop by and theres also parties that take place. But the campus is very lively ecspecially when it's warm out.
Food and Dining Once in a while there's a good meal at Hurley Hall but for the most part the food is really not that great. It's very predictible as to what they will serve. There needs to be alternative choices for people who are vegans and vegetarians.
Dorm Life Alot of the dorms are something to be desired ecspecially considering the fact that you'l be rooming with three to four other people. Dorm life probably requires some degree of adjustment but its defineteley worth staying on campus.
Academic Rigor At a liberal arts collge, you'll be exposed to everything no matter what your major is. The professors here at Eastern are for the most part in tune with the students. They're also passionaite about the concentrations that they teach.

Categories Comments Food and Dining The food is like any other college it is a hit or miss. Some days the food is really good other times it's not.
Dorm Life I am not familiar with the dorm life since I do not live on campus. But if you are a freshman or transfer, mead is one of the closest dorms to Hurley. Constitution is the closest dorm to the library. All the dorms are pretty close to each other. If you live in Noble you will have to walk a bit to get onto the main campus.
Academic Rigor It isn't that bad. But it is tough for bio majors. If you are an education major then there are plenty of opportunities for you to student teach.
In three sentences Eastern is a great school. you will definitely make friends. Also, between the number of clubs that they have on campus and you can always find something to do after classes.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck It's definitely worth the price!
What to do for fun Anything! There are clubs, fun activities throughout the entire year and anywhere in between.
Food and Dining The food is really good.
Dorm Life The buildings are beautiful. They are like you are living in a hotel and are way better than other colleges.
Academic Rigor Academics at Eastern are taken seriously. Though some may say it is easy, depending on if you want to complete your degree in four years, you have to work hard and do all your work.
Tips for prospective students No matter what anyone says, this school is a perfect match for anyone. There is so much to offer here, especially if you are unsure of what you want to do in the future. There are many degrees that you may want to pursue and the advisors and staff will help you along the way.
In three sentences Eastern makes you realize that there is no other university like it. Some would argue that it is just a state school, but they are missing out on the amazing opportunities that Eastern has to offer. Eastern achieves in its academics, residential life and overall appearance at such a low cost compared to private universities that couldn't compare.

Categories Comments Greek Life None
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus None that I've heard of.
Bang for the buck it's a good school, I'd recommend it for people that can afford it. Money is definitely a hassle.
What to do for fun Intermurals, library, sports, hanging out with friends.
Food and Dining Food is good, as you get deeper into the semester it tends to get repetitive. Not everyone likes to eat burgers everyday !
Dorm Life Dorm life is the best! Mostly because you find people that are similar to you and you. You also meet many different people, opening your eyes to the different personalities there are in the world.
Academic Rigor It's rigorous, but if you have a strong high-school foundation you'll do great!
Tips for prospective students Tips for perspective students would be to make sure you have financial aid squared off early before moving in it can be a hassle. Be sure to pack light and don't bring to many things. Also make sure you don't buy all your books because some professors might not require them.
In three sentences Eastern is a good school. It has some faults like any other place but I think that eastern is a great place for people that are looking a liberal arts education. It has a great atmosphere and lots of very helpful people!

Categories Comments Campus Safety Students always felt safe on campus. The campus has lights everywhere, walking at night is not scary if your alone. There are also blue light stations located all over campus to contact campus police if you ever feel like you are in danger.
Greek Life There isnt greek life at Eastern.
Clubs and Activities There is a countless amount of clubs at Eastern. I don't think one person on campus could not find at least one club that interested them out of the bunch!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Ordering out food is a common tradition among students. There are many off campus food options in the area ranging from Chinese, Japanese, Italian, breakfast dinners and pubs.
What to do for fun There are many things to do around campus for fun. Your eastern email will provide you with various events around campus and in your dorms every week. Sporting events are also fun to attend and a great way to show school spirit.
Food and Dining Hurley Hall is your typical college dinning hall.Hurley does try to accommodate everyones eating habits with countless options for each meal. The student center or stu also has a cafe. This food is awesome and has a Starbucks, sub station, salad station, grill, pizza station and a station that changes every month. the food is prepared right there fresh in front of you.
Dorm Life The dorms are nice. There are many different living spaces available ranging from doubles, triples, suites and apartments.
Academic Rigor The classes are the perfect size. Professors know there students which urges students to get help when it is needed and to succeed.
In three sentences Eastern is a fun and engaging university with a countless amount of opportunities to get involved. It is a welcoming atmosphere and beautiful campus.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I always felt safe. But don't forget to get a parking pass because you will get a ticket!
Dorm Life I did not live on campus.
Academic Rigor My professors were great and I learned a lot. The learning that occurred allowed me to carry right over into my classroom. All assignments were logical, and helped me become a better teacher.
Tips for prospective students Get your plan of study and make sure you know when classes are offered. Some are only offered in certain semesters and if you miss it, you could possibly wait an entire year to try and take it again, and then it could be canceled!
In three sentences As a graduate student, I am sure my experience is much different than undergraduate classes. There was little support from my advisers on what classes to take and many were canceled due to class size which was very frustrating. The professors on the other hand were great!

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus police are always out on the weekends and late at night, I have never felt unsafe on this campus.
Greek Life There is no greek life..
Great for these types of students I have honestly seen all types of people here at Eastern.
Bang for the buck This school is really nice in general and you get a quality education for a relatively low cost.
What to do for fun There are always sports games going on, Friday After Dark activities, Campus Activity Board events, and of course friends. Honestly, anyone who says they don't like it at Eastern isn't trying hard enough.
Food and Dining The food is pretty good. There are always options for people. We have to go boxes after 11 am which is really nice and rare for a school. There is only one dining hall, so that can get old, but you get dining dollars each semester that you can spend at local establishments.
Dorm Life I live in Mead Hall, a freshman suite with two roommates and then two other suite mates. We all get along really well, and have a shower, bathroom, common room and pantry. This is a really nice dorm and the staff is really good. Just make sure when applying for housing you know what kind of place you want to live in because there are a few different options.
Academic Rigor The classes are just challenging enough that you need to push yourself and keep up, but not too challenging so that you get behind and are constantly studying. This also varies due to what you are studying.
Tips for prospective students Make sure that you pack enough snacks/food that you like, because since there is only one dining hall it can get old - but the staff really does try and the food is generally good. Drinking coffee every day can get expensive. Make sure you bring cleaning products and clean your room before you cozy in.
In three sentences Eastern is not only a very good school academically, but also pays attention to the fact that students are living there and provides them with lots of cool opportunities and possible activities. The class sizes are smaller than some schools and allow for one on one help and asking of questions. Lots of people go home on the weekends, but there is always something to do for those who stay.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are events of friday nights that you could attend. They are held at the school and are pretty fun. Also, just hanging with friends would be the best thing :)
Food and Dining The food is not good at all. They do not season everything and the food is extremely greasy. The dining hall offers the same meals everyday. There are always burgers, pizza, pasta, and salad. With little variety, the food begins to taste the same. You are always hungry, but the food is not satisfying and after you eat you usually feel awful. Not good quality
Dorm Life The dorms are really big. The dorm i am in is a suite with a living room, bathroom, and shower. Some halls have kitchens and all are pretty nice. A few of the dorms need to be updated and redone soon. Also, some of the dorms are really far away from any of the buildings so you have to walk a good 15 minutes in order to get breakfast or go to your classes.
Academic Rigor This school is not that different from my high school. The work load is not nearly as much as i had in high school and the level of difficulty is about the same. The school wants to make sure everyone is on the same level so they start with basic courses and then work their way up. I recommend taking AP's in high school which will allow you to test out of the introductory courses and get you into higher leveled and more specific classes pertaining to your field.
Tips for prospective students This school is nice because if you aren't sure what you want to major in, you are able to take a variety of different courses to explore your options. Make sure to take higher levels courses that are within your major to see what you want to focus in. You have to be independent in your studies and make the most out of what you have.
In three sentences A liberal arts university that offers a variety of courses for a well-rounded student. Eastern Connecticut State University helps students to explore multiple fields by providing specific requirements within the tier system. The school aims to shape young people into skilled workers for todays careers and work paths.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I feel really safe on this campus, you don't hear about many violent actions on campus and if there is there is a support group or any resources you may need.
Clubs and Activities This is probably one on the best things you can do at school. It helps you be social and be somewhere everyone there is interested in the same things as you.
Great for these types of students Someone who doesn't want a HUGE school but just big enough where you can avoid that ex-boyfriend.
What to do for fun CAB, FAD and UROC put on a lot of events that are free and some a small amount of money but the events on campus are very fun!
Food and Dining Our dinning hall is pretty average. I mean but what college student doesn't complain about the food they eat.
Dorm Life All the RA's make you feel at home and very welcomed. One of my best friends at school is one of my RA's!
Academic Rigor It's pretty okay at this level but for an upperclassmen it gets very difficult and work load is ok if you manage your time right.
Tips for prospective students Don't be that freshman fobbing into the science building.
In three sentences Eastern is a very nice community to live in. I feel very welcome as a freshman. I fell in love with this school and still love it.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Go swimming! Join an intramural!
Food and Dining The only thing I would change able the dining experience at Eastern would be the name of the main dining hall. It's just not ideal for an eating area, but the actual food is great and has a lot of variety. I eat there pretty much every day.
Dorm Life Excellent! I'm actually in the application process to become a Resident Assistant right now! The RA's here are awesome-and always so friendly and helpful if you need anything.
Academic Rigor Academically, Eastern upholds all the necessary standards that will allow it's students to succeed in their future careers. The professors are great and they have office hours when they're available for individual consultation if you need extra help.
Tips for prospective students Eastern is a good choice if you're in-state and like to be able to go home on the weekend. It's really close to Uconn if you have family members that attend, but a much smaller class size if you like to get to know your professors.
In three sentences Eastern Connecticut State University is a great place to go to college! We're getting a new fine arts center in 2015 and I can really appreciate this as a music major-it means more practice rooms. It's gonna be awesome!

Categories Comments Campus Safety It's not as bad as people say it is. No one ever got stabbed or raped on campus, just don't go wandering through the town at 2 AM in the morning.
Greek Life There is one fraternity but I don't know anyone in it.
Clubs and Activities They have over 60 clubs so chances are if you're interested in something they have it.
Great for these types of students If you're a science or education major it's great.
Bang for the buck You get a good deal with the price. They have a strong academic program especially when it comes to sciences or education.
What to do for fun CAB (campus activity board) has a lot to offer on the weekends! There are Friday after dark events every other friday with a ton of free food and t-shirts, as well as some day long trips to Boston or New Jersey on the weekends.
Food and Dining Let's be honest Hurly (the dining hall on campus) is no 5 star restaurant but it's edible. They have a decent salad bar and always have more than one meal option. It's ok.
Dorm Life Half the dorms are pretty new so they're nice. There are options of either suit style living or typical dorms with a single bathroom at the end of the hall. Either way you'll find something you like whether it's apartment style living or the small community feel.
Academic Rigor The professors are very friendly but upkeep the college standards. There is a decent amount of homework but as long as you do what is assigned you'll do fine on the exams as well.
Tips for prospective students Get involved. Willimantic is not a college town but the campus offers a lot of fun trips and club opportunities. You won't be bored as long as you get yourself out there and participate in what the school offers.
In three sentences ECSU is a great fairly small school with only 4,500 undergraduates. It's a close-knit community with a lot to offer from strong science programs to clubs such as Best Buddy. It's easy to succeed here if you put yourself out there.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus Safety is quick to alert everyone of any accidents involving theft or suspicious activities whatever the case maybe they will email all the students. As well as patrol the ground and be there in case any student needs assistance.
Greek Life I'm not part of it so can't say how good or bad it is sorry.
Clubs and Activities While I am not part of any club yet there was a huge club fair near the center of campus with clubs ranging in many different interests. So I would be surprised if none interesting any new student looking to get into a club if not it's not hard to start one.
Great for these types of students Eastern is great for any student wanting to get into Psychology majors, theater majors, and more. The school is diverse enough that there's something for everyone and the school is near many great attractions and restaurants worth checking out.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The campus is about medium size compared to other colleges which is big enough without it being a hassle to get to your class buildings. There isn't anything unusual that I found so far.
Bang for the buck Eastern is definitely worth the price and I've gotten more out of this school than previous ones that were a lot higher in price. It's great for commuting and if you dorm they're also really clean and nice to live in.
What to do for fun As a commuter I'm not around the whole time to see what's going on everyday of the week but Eastern does have many fun things going on. From drama plays, movies on the green, to many other events mostly held at the student center there's almost always something going on at Eastern.
Food and Dining I don't usually eat at school so can't make a valid judgment but the student center has a nice diverse menu and the cafeteria as well. Both places where my friends eat find the food good in quality so no worry there.
Dorm Life I don't dorm but know many friends who do and they love the experience and friends they make in the dorms and the quality of them are really good from what I have seen.
Academic Rigor Classes are great but can definitely be work intensive so plan accordingly with any other commitments in your life. Eastern will challenge you but nothing a student can't handle so don't be scared.
Tips for prospective students Like always keep track of deadlines and make sure you have everything ready before classes start. Don't be afraid to call or email the advisors which in my experience are usually readily available and quick to respond.
In three sentences Eastern Connecticut State University is a diverse and growing school with many opportunities. As a student I find the staff and teachers to be great at what they do and some personally interesting. So far to be my best college experience out of the three total colleges I attended.

Dorm Life I don't even know who lives on my floor. Don't dorm in mead because no one leaves their rooms, especially on the first floor.

Greek Life There are a few fraternities and sororities but not as many as some of the larger schools.
Clubs and Activities If you check out the university website at www.easternct.edu you will be instantly provided with a enormous list of clubs and activities to participate in.
Great for these types of students Those who are interested in Liberal Arts degrees.

Bang for the buck The quality of the education, food, housing, and environment greatly exceeds what the tuition is!
What to do for fun There are constantly activities to do and sports or clubs to sigh up for and participate in!
Food and Dining The dining hall at ECSU always has a large variety of different foods from a plethora of cultures!
Dorm Life Living on campus provides an excellent opportunity to meet fellow peers, and experience independence in it's purest form.
Academic Rigor The work load is challenging but with enough motivation and by attending tutor sessions, you should succeed.
Tips for prospective students Study! Study! Study! And be aware of time management!

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities The Clubs are awesome, there are a ton to choose from! They get very involved and do community service and different activities on and off campus. Clubs also look great on a resume and there is a club here that will fit anyone's interests.
What to do for fun Every Friday night they have events for the whole school to go to with a bunch of different things to do and freebees. Theres moon bounces, raffles, movies, free tee shirts, and more! They also have a fall and spring concert which is a big hit and different trips throughout the year such as going to boston or new York or the Big E for the day.
Food and Dining The food is not that great here. It is better than the typical high school food, but you get sick of it quick. Luckily Easterns student center has good food you can get if you choose not to go to the dining hall, you just have to pay for It instead of using your swipes with the meal plan you buy.
Dorm Life Dorm life is awesome. It is a great way to meet a bunch of new friends and your whole hall becomes a family. All of the dorms have programs to earn priority points which is how you get to pick your dorms for the next year. The programs are held by the RA's and they are a lot of fun and a good way to get out of your room and interact with other people in your building.
Academic Rigor The academics here are great. I haven't encountered a bad teacher so far or a class where I'm struggling and can't get help. There are several academic advisor always there willing to help out, and Eastern has an academic advising center which is an awesome way to figure out the right classes you need to register for. They also have a writing center which Is very helpful if you struggle with papers. They have tutors for all subjects that are available and all of the teachers have office hours if you need extra help with anything. They are very willing to cater to you.
Tips for prospective students Live on campus and get involved. It makes the time here a lot more enjoyable and there are so many fun opportunities with all of the different sports, clubs, and intramurals.

Food and Dining The food is alright, the meals are basically the same every night.
Dorm Life I live in mead and absolutely love it, but I was fortunate enough to like my roommates.
Academic Rigor The class work is definitely harder than I expected but it is all about time management.
Tips for prospective students Use your time wisely. Homework is also a big help with classes, as well as outside studying. If you have a job within the first year, make sure you are very good at time management and have your priorities straight.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Here's a true police dispatch: On September 23rd at approximately 8:50 a.m., a female student was walking off campus in the Windham/Prospect street area. She was talking on a cell phone when she was approached by...An older white male [that] was driving the vehicle and he appeared to be wearing black eye under liner. He asked the student to call his mother and gave her the motherâ??s phone number. She dialed the number she was given and then gave the suspect/driver her phone. The driver then left the scene with the studentâ??s cell phone heading toward campus. The student was not injured. Don't be stupid.
Clubs and Activities I played a sport and therefore did not have much time for extra clubs, but the students who do generally seem to enjoy them. Yet I wish I could say that the various clubs around campus put on more interesting/exciting events for the rest of the school. Some of the better ones are movies on the quad (though the selection is usually suspect) and the fall/spring concerts. (Students get to vote on who to host but always seem to select the worst of three options.) But these hardly make up for the 5am protests that some clubs host, which involve marching past residence halls with loudspeakers and whistles at an ungodly hour that always seems to fall before a crucial midterm exam.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus A frustrating aspect of Eastern is the lack of well-known or widely-cherished spots. Most students don't seem interested in venturing out much further than Blarney's, which is a shame because Willimantic and the surrounding area has some really interesting stuff. Mansfield Hollow is a great hiking/swimming/boating/fishing spot just down the road that far too few students take advantage of. Downtown Willimantic is getting stronger, with City Side Deli, Cafemantic, and of course the Brewery for great off-campus hangouts.
Bang for the buck Though I didn't feel like I received the best education, my lack of student loan debt made Eastern a great decision in the long run. It's a tradeoff: You won't get your foot in the door as easily in the job search as elsewhere, but there's no pressure to pay back six figures of debt.
What to do for fun Weekend life revolves around two bars and house parties. It's a dry campus, so partying in dorms is generally a stupid move. Some students take advantage of the more active nightlife over at UConn, and I'm guessing this is what compels so many of them to transfer. Don't let anyone tell you differently: many, many people go home on weekends, and campus can be a ghost town sometimes. The best bet is to be a student-athlete or become friends with one.
Food and Dining Willimantic can be a tough town for grabbing a bite. The campus dining hall is so-so to unbearable, and the Student Center (which costs real money) is only slightly better. Willimantic Brewing Company on Main St. is a New England landmark, but pricey; there are three excellent diners in the area, but diner food can get old; and given the thriving Hispanic population of the area, it's surprisingly hard to find a good burrito. (Taste of the Island is the lone exception.) Tough it out freshman year, get a dorm with a kitchen, and learn to cook.
Dorm Life The dorms at Eastern are by far its best feature, and in this respect you can't really go wrong. I lived in probably the worst dorm--a spartan, two-to-a-room, communal-shower building--during my freshman year, and it was probably the best thing that could've happened to me. (Everyone keeps their doors open, everyone knows everyone else, and you get wrapped up in the social life without having to try. Go Burnap Hall!) As you get older, of course, the suite apartment-style housing is a godsend. And the off-campus options are very nice around town as well.
Academic Rigor Eastern is primarily a teaching college (though a few professors do very respected research), so most professors are more than willing to offer struggling students extra help and office-hour time. That said, if you consider yourself to be a high-achiever, or seek classes to challenge yourself, consider looking elsewhere/transferring. A common complaint: I did the reading hoping to have a broad, engaging discussion of the materials in class, but when the professor realized no one else had read the assignments he simply 'taught back' what I'd already done for homework to the students who didn't do it. If you're the type to get absorbed in your studies, professor office hours after class become your real place of learning--a frustrating situation when you still have to sit through an hour/hour and a half/three hour class simply for attendance grades.
Tips for prospective students Utilize Eastern's Career Services Center as soon as possible. They can do wonders with a four-year plan, and since most students don't visit them until junior or senior year, an early start can give you a leg up in the job market later on.
In three sentences Eastern is a solid regional public university. The student body is generally not as ambitious as those of the flagship publics, and most incoming freshman who wish to make something of themselves seem to transfer out after a year or two. That said, Eastern has many strong major programs--Communications, Business, Economics, Political Science, and Education majors typically do well in the job search/graduate school application process--and can be a great stepping stone for students looking for an affordable option.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Eastern has something going on almost every week, whether it's the Knight cafe every Thursday night, Fridays after dark, or Late nights on the weekend. There's also a large number of volunteer opportunities both through clubs, and through the Center for Community Engagement. WIth over 50 clubs, you're guaranteed to find something you like, and other people who enjoy it too. If you find yourself bored on a Friday night, you're just not trying.
Food and Dining Save once, I've never been sick at Hurley Hall, but I've heard from more than one person that they've been sick regularly from the food. Personally, I think it depends on what you like to eat, and generally stay away from the fast food. The student center has better food, and a lot of grab-and-go snacks you can use your dining dollars if you're on the meal plan, and regular cash if you don't. Schafer has a snack cart (only open in the morning) and the Library cafe besides coffee and pastries has a grocery section with dry goods and easy prep meals you can also buy with dining dollars.
Dorm Life Many of the buildings are older, and about half require you to buy a meal plan since they don't have a kitchen facility. Freshman dorms are the worst, since you are put under special restriction just because you're a freshman (such as having to sign guests in and out, no cars, etc.), and except for constitution the dorms are older. Upper classmen have better choices, but it's highly dependant on how many priority points you have, which you earn through attending campus events, residence hall programs, and getting good grades. About half of the upper classmen halls also require you to have a meal plan (Niedlik, Occum, Crandall, Burnap, and Winthrop), but the other ones don't. Transfer students, good luck, you're pushed into 2 dorms, usually Noble and Mead Hall. Noble is an old elementary school, and is the furthest away from the rest of campus, so you may want to plan your school schedule around the shuttle to avoid a 15 minute walk uphill. Noble also has issues with the plumbing, fire alarms go off almost every week, and is down the road from the local watering hole, so noisy crowds on the weekend. Mead, you are subject to the freshman rules, and forced onto a meal plan as well. However, this is only for your first semester, after that you can transfer to another one of the upper class man dorms provided yu have the appropriate credit hours.
Academic Rigor The coursework I was given was challenging, but exciting. Some subjects (like history and biology) have a lot of paper writing, but the subjects are generally interesting, and in the higher levels you can pick your own topics to research. At some point or another (especially for Math) you will find youself in the academic skills center, but the tutors there know what they're talking about. However, except for Math and English, you will need to make an appointment, best if at least a day in advance. The teachers aren't out to get you, as long a you apply yourself and read all assigned texts.
Tips for prospective students Bring at least $200 a month for additional expenses. Freshman students and sophomores beware, you may not be allowed to have a car on campus unless you have a job nearby, or live far enough from home. Transfer students, make sure enough of your credits you earned transfer, or you'll find yourself doing remedial work. If all else fails, head to the transition office.
In three sentences A liberal arts campus out in the middle of almost nowhere, but if you know where to look, you can get almost anything. Great teachers who love what they do, up to date in their fields. To get great housing, attend campus and dorm events, it'll pay off in the long run.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Eastern Connecticut State University has their own police department on campus.
Clubs and Activities Everyone talks about going to events together, helping out on community service project, and ECSU students are involved in many different clubs and activities. If for you don't find the club or activities you wish to participate in then you can create it.
Great for these types of students All students are welcome.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a fountain on campus that every freshman puts a penny in with a certain date on it.
Bang for the buck You will get out what you put in. If you are willing to great people, and be and active member in the ECSU community you are welcomed with open arms. ECSU has multiple opportunities for any type off person, all you have to do is walk in the door and take a look around.
What to do for fun Anything you could think of. There are lawns on campus that you and friends can get a game of ultimate frisbee going, or listen to the music playing from dorm windows. You can go to local restaurants, or see a movie. Watch a game being played on the fields off campus, or go bowling.
Food and Dining Meal plans are great! And the buffet is really good, you can even get a meal for a guest now and then.
Dorm Life Decent size dorms, and the people around you will determine how well you sleep if your a light sleeper. This is true for wherever you go. I'm not a heavy sleeper, so people in the halls is something I'd have to get used to.
Academic Rigor It's college not high school your gonna have to look at book more.
Tips for prospective students Go to the early SOAR programs. This will better your chance of getting classes and times that you want. Also commuters should join as many clubs and activities as possible, though do not over work yourself. College is about networking and learning.
In three sentences The campus is beautiful! The faculty, staff and other students are always willing to help. The opportunities are endless and ECSU is a 10 out of 10!

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is patrolled regularly and cops undergo extensive training for crisis situations. Students should however play safe regardless.
Greek Life None so far.
Clubs and Activities There's something for just about everyone.
Great for these types of students Students who are academic focused and want smaller class sizes.
Bang for the buck Really cheap for in-state commuters. Dorming is expensive though.
What to do for fun Downtown Willimantic is great for dining and there are also some unique shops surrounding the campus. There is also the closely located Eastbrook Mall and Manchester is only about a 40 minute drive from campus.
Food and Dining The Student Center Cafe is great but their prices are fairly high and this location is not completely included in meal plans. Hurley Hall is good too. All you can eat with a meal plan pretty much. Not sure anyone has found a limit yet.
Dorm Life Dorm life could go either way. Some students love it and other students hate it. It all depends on individual preferences.
Academic Rigor Some classes are very tough. They will challenge you as will the professors. You really need to keep up with the work load to succeed.
Tips for prospective students Start planning your classes out early. Its a first come, first serve basis and not all professors are open to a wait list. Planning early also helps you come graduation time so you're not taking required classes last minute.
In three sentences ECSU is a good school if you are looking for a college or university with an academic focus but still has a good student life. They do a good job giving their students the resources they need to succeed in their education and are always willing to help.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety does a very good job of handling the students, I became friendly with a few of the police officers around campus. They're all very understanding and don't go out of their way to give any kids a hard time. Treat them with respect and they'll do the same in return.
Greek Life Greek life isn't allowed at Eastern, no one really misses it seeing as there are several houses to go to for parties anyways.
Bang for the buck Go to Taste of the Island late at night and you wont regret it. The environment with friends is an experience all on its own and the food is delicious. Not good for the healthy eater but you're young so don't worry about it.
What to do for fun There are tons of intramural sports to play, the campus is usually pretty active on nice weather days. In the winter people sled a lot next to Hurley. The school often puts on movie nights and different events like that so there's always something that you can do. Don't forget about free pancakes Thursday nights in the student center!
Food and Dining Hurley isn't as bad as many people may say that it is. As far as dining hall food goes I really didn't mind it. Sure there are nights where I wish I didn't have to eat there but almost any time of day you can go get takeout and you never need to cook for yourself.
Dorm Life I lived in Mead, had an absolute blast. Best year of my life. Wherever you live it is going to be whatever you make it just like anything in life. I visited Burr and it was much more of a family feel since the kids there live in dorms as compared to suites but I made plenty of friends in my building.
Academic Rigor Depending on the classes you take I'm sure this will differ. My work load is pretty rough since I am a double major but if you stick with it the work load is definitely manageable. Professors give enough time to complete homework and plenty of warning on tests.
Tips for prospective students Try and get into either Mead or Constitution as a freshman. I have friends who lived in Burr and loved it as well but Mead and Constitution are hands down the best living conditions on campus for freshman.
In three sentences Eastern has really improved in the last ten years with new buildings and a higher standard of acceptance. The school is beautiful and the people I've met there have been amazing. I wouldn't go to any other state school, Eastern is an amazing institution.

Clubs and Activities Over 80 clubs to be involved with.
Great for these types of students Education, psychology, and business majors.
Food and Dining Hours are kind of weird but the food is always diverse. Your typical lunchroom quality though. Student Center has a great food court.

Academic Rigor Challenging courses, but won't completely stress you out.
Tips for prospective students Get involved and network with upperclassmen.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Make sure you are not walking alone in the middle of the night, it is located in Willimantic, CT after all.
Food and Dining A step up from high school cafeteria food, but I've had better. The small caf in the student center is where I prefer to get my e-mails if I'm buying from the school.
Dorm Life I have never dormed on ECSU campus, but as an incoming freshmen, make sure you give it a try, however it's not for everyone!
In three sentences ECSU is a small campus with small classrooms where you get a more hands on learning experience and able to form relationships with your classmates and teachers. They offer a wide variety of classes and majors to suit everyone's wants and needs.

Food and Dining The dining hall has great sandwiches and omelettes. The student center has much better food. The library cafe is also great if you're in a hurry and need something quick to eat.
Dorm Life Relatively laid back RAs. I prefer off campus housing. The nicest freshman dorms are Mead and Constitution. Constitution is better for making friends.
Academic Rigor Classes can be tough, but reasonable. Teachers can be very strict but if you put the effort in they will help you. The hardest part of a science related degree is that every class comes with a 3 hour lab.
Tips for prospective students Put the effort in and you'll succeed. Go after class and to the academic services center, they are extremely helpful.
In three sentences Eastern may not be in the greatest area, but it has a beautiful campus. The classes are relatively small so there is a lot of one on one interaction with teachers. Teachers have a lot of office hours for after class help on anything that is difficult for students.

What to do for fun There are many clubs to join such as dance teams or organizations where they plan events for campus such as concerts, free give away and sports as well.
Food and Dining The food is nothing like your moms home cooking but the food is good and it does hit the spot. their are some days when you wish you was home eating your moms food but the food is not the worst.
Dorm Life Dorm Life is amazing every dorm is different some are older than others and some are newer than others but the best part about dorms are meeting new people and building relationships that will last a lifetime.
Tips for prospective students My tip for prospective student is make sure that you meet with your advisor monthly and build a good relationship with them because you will need them through out the year. Also build relationships with your professors which is very important and never be afraid to ask for help.
In three sentences From a scale from 1 to 10 I rate Eastern Connecticut State University a 10. My reasons for ratting my school a 10 is mainly because of the academic support they give their students. They really work with their students and getting them through college.

Categories Comments What to do for fun The campus is in the middle of a small city. There is a record store, an adorable place called Cafemantic which will make you feel wonderful, a movie theatre and a drive-in nearby, a flea market every Sunday during the warmer months, and much more.
Food and Dining There are many food and dining options around campus. There are also nearby restaurants and other places (such as a Subway) that will accept a student's express card (the card a student uses to pay), so if a student does not like the dining options on campus, they are always welcome to eat off campus.
Dorm Life As a commuter, I cannot necessarily speak for the dorms. However, I've heard what my friends who live on campus have said, and they all seem to like it very much. There are several different types of housing making the experience different each year. Most people enjoy living on campus, especially in the large suite-style dorms or the apartment style dorms.
Academic Rigor The courses were as challenging as I would expect them to be. You can expect papers and projects as you would from any college level class, but the professors are almost always available to discuss your work with you. You won't be left alone.
Tips for prospective students This school provides a good general to specific education for a cost that is honestly wonderful in comparison to other schools. The school is in a fun location of Willimantic that has a lot of local things to do.
In three sentences ECSU is honestly a wonderful liberal arts school. With it's small class sizes, I always feel comfortable participating, and I am never too afraid to go up and ask the professor a question. The faculty is very friendly and approachable, and the smaller campus makes the school very inviting.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are a ton of places in the surrounding area where you can find entertainment and excitement.
Food and Dining The dining hall is not too bad. The student center and cafe have amazing food!
Dorm Life Traditional halls encourage students to meet each other, the smaller residence halls create a true feeling of community.
Academic Rigor As a senior in the social work program I can attest that the majors which the school is known for (teaching and social work) are extremely rigorous and will challenge students.
Tips for prospective students Get a meal plan your first year, live in a traditional building, and try to hardest to get out there. Freshman advisory is helpful, but they tend to be less than helpful as you get older. Forge a good relationship with your faculty adviser.
In three sentences Eastern is a small community in which each and every student has a voice. The faculty and staff are ready to assist in any way possible, I have never felt so welcomed on a college campus. The school is academically rigorous and socially fulfilling.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Excellent. Blue emergency lights/buttons can be seen from everywhere on campus in case of danger. The police department is on campus and has been said to be able to be anywhere on campus within 30 seconds of a call.
Clubs and Activities There is a club for every interest or group of people! And if there isn't, you have the freedom to make your own group
Great for these types of students Well-rounded students, or those who wish to be, will do well here. As a liberal arts college, students are required to take all kinds of classes and subjects.
Bang for the buck Eastern is very affordable, and very accommodating to students in need of financial aid.
What to do for fun There are always activities planned on campus, like outdoor tie-ding, movie nights in the theater, open mic, etc.
Food and Dining Student center food is excellent, but food from the dining hall has made everyone I know a little queasy!
Dorm Life Mead Hall is the perfect dorm for freshmen. It's new and clean. As this is the only res-hall I've been in, I'm not sure what the others are like.
Academic Rigor Of course there is more work in college than in high school, and even though classes are challenging, there is always available help if you are struggling.
Tips for prospective students To future students: be ready to be social and make new friends! Campus is small but there are always activities going on, giving students to try new things and meet new people.
In three sentences Eastern is a great school! The campus is beautiful, and I love my classes. It was a wonderful transition from high school to college, thanks to the helpful faculty and staff.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Eastern is very small, so there is rarely any violent crimes or other dangerous occurrences. There are also many emergency phone posts all around campus. The campus safety board regularly updates students on local dangers that may affect them.
Greek Life There is no Greek life on campus, because Eastern is a dry campus, promoting student safety.
Clubs and Activities Eastern is part of the Little East Conference for sports, and also has many other intramural teams too. Almost every student is a member of one of these organizations.
Great for these types of students Eastern is a good choice for students who want to have the college experience, without the hassle or expense of larger universities. You can still get a great education without having to leave your families for good, or leave them with empty wallets.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Eastern is located in Willimantic CT, an old industrial town that has many monuments that incorporate the frog. The frog structures come from a local legend from the seventeen-hundreds, where the locals thought that a colony of frogs that were making obscene noises, were the British coming to attack their town. Since then, frogs have been a large parody in Willimantic history. You can see frog structures even at Eastern!
Bang for the buck I would say for a local university, Eastern is a very good choice. I only pay about ten thousand a year, and I get the same quality education as those who receive education at schools with 'bigger' names.
What to do for fun There are vast amounts of things to do for fun! There are quite a lot of intramural sports, and the Campus Activity Board is always providing something fun to do on campus, whether you had plans to do anything or not!
Food and Dining Unfortunately, there is only one dining hall, which isn't much better than any other high school cafeteria. Despite this, there are many other dining opportunities at local restaurants just a short walk off of campus!
Dorm Life I'm a commuter, so I do not know extensively about the dorm life, but I have stayed nights over, and from my experiences, Eastern has some of the best dorms in the state! I would definitely choose to live here if I could afford to!
Academic Rigor Though classes can be tough, I find the curriculum not that much harder than any other accelerated high school program.
Tips for prospective students You want to make sure that you are academically prepared for this school. There's no need to be afraid though, for Eastern makes the transition very easy for students.
In three sentences Eastern is a very good college for someone who wants to feel like a member of a community. The liberal arts curriculum is both fun and challenging for a student ready to build their resume. The faculty is very kind and knows most students by their first name.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus has their own police department that are always there to help. We also have many buttons around the campus if you ever need a police officer immediately.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus When you are a freshman, during orientation, you throw a penny into the fountain starting a new beginning. Then when you graduate as a senior, you throw a penny into the fountain again for ending your time at Eastern and starting a new chapter in your life.
Bang for the buck Eastern is overall an amazing college. If I could stay there for graduate school I would! The campus is beautiful and the atmosphere is amazing. I would never chose another college to go to and don't want to leave!
What to do for fun Eastern has many things to do for fun. There are too many clubs to count! The athletics there are also pretty good. It is a great way to know everyone in a fun way! The student center holds many events like concerts or fairs where everyone can go to meet new people and have a great time. There is occasionally trips to New York where you can enjoy a Broadway show and go shopping!
Food and Dining The food at Eastern is great! We have various cafes around the campus for on the go food. We also have the student center where you can find a variety of food like burgers, salads, pizza, and even a coffee shop. Hurley Hall is an all you can eat buffet where you can go there and eat whatever you would like. They have many flavors of ice cream too!
Dorm Life I have not stayed on campus but what I have seen of the dorms they are amazing. We have various dorms for each year you are in and also have apartment like buildings for the upperclassmen.
Academic Rigor The academics at Eastern are great! You can really learn a lot and not feel overwhelmed by the work load because your professors are there every step of the way to help you. There are also tutors that are willing to help in every subject you need.
Tips for prospective students I encourage prospective students to join clubs and get involved in the college. It is a smaller college so many people get to know each other a lot. The environment is amazing and the buildings are close together so there isn't a far walk during the winter. The atmosphere at Eastern makes you feel welcome and the classes challenge you to be your best.
In three sentences Eastern Connecticut State University incorporates all aspects of learning into the classroom. The professors are kind and caring and they love to help. The college offers so many programs and clubs that it is impossible not to be involved in some activity.

Categories Comments Campus Safety It's not that bad for a town like Willimantic. There's nothing much going on.
Greek Life There are no sororities or fraternities.
Clubs and Activities The clubs at Eastern are amazing. There are a variety of them. From community service such as People Helping People to personal interests such as the Photography club. There's also a newspaper, radio station, clubs related with your major (like Psychology club), and others based on you culture (Organization of Latin American Students- OLAS).
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The town of Willimantic is full of random frog statues, there are pretty and creepy Victorian houses next to the university. In the summer there's a monthly festival called Third Thursday where there's food, music, and different types of things are sold.
What to do for fun Since Willimantic is a small town, there's nothing much to do. Though, there are some fun places to go such as some restaurants, Cafemantic (a really nice coffee shop), if you're and up there are also some bars. However, the most fun you can have is with your group of friends.
Food and Dining The food at the main dining hall is alright. Sometimes they have really good stuff, but all depends on your taste. On the other hand, the food at the student center is better but you have to pay for it.
Dorm Life Most freshman dorms are nice and you get to interact with the people there.
Academic Rigor It depends on the professor, the level of the course, and the major.
Tips for prospective students It's not hard to get into the school, just apply. If you GPA is low, there's a program in the summer that helps you making it higher. During the first two years, you must take some requirements that sometimes are not even related with your major but they give you the liberal arts experience.
In three sentences ECSU is a small school where professors can interact with you and get to know you. Most of them care about you and are willing to help you with anything you need. Also, you get the liberal arts experience which allows you take classes not required for your major.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The police station on campus is full of some of the most helpful people I've ever met. An officer is there and ready to help all hours of the day and night. Their presence is strong on campus as they can be found patrolling at all hours. I feel safe knowing that they are out around campus, especially when I come home late at night after work and have to walk from the garage to my dorm on the opposite side of campus.
Clubs and Activities Eastern has at least 77 different clubs so there is something for everyone. There is a club for nearly every major or activity you could think of. Also, if you don't see a club that you'd like, Eastern will allow funds to be allocated for the creation of a new club.
Great for these types of students If you are looking for a school where your teachers know you by name and face, then Eastern is for you. There are no large lecture halls where you become just another face and it is easy to have one on one sessions with you professors. Also, though some may claim Willimantic is a scary place to live, do not believe them. Main street Willimantic has some nice businesses like Cafe Manitc, Jules Verne, and A Cupcake for Later. Also, the last Third Thursday even for the year occurs near the beginning of the school year. Third Thursday is a great event to go to if you'd like to try some new foods or check out local crafts. All in all, there's something for everyone to enjoy.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a large rock on campus just past campus safety. It is repainted nearly every month for varies event on campus. This is a fun place to check out what events are coming up in the near future.
Bang for the buck Eastern is a school where you can definitely get more bang for your buck. At just over $20,000, I have found that Eastern has saved me money while giving me an excellent education. Eastern is so cost effective that I am considering completing my Master's degree there as well.
What to do for fun There are always activities on campus. There is friday after dark which puts on events like the Little E and Dances. Also there is a theater in the student center that shows newly released movies. The various dorms also have events almost every night that give you the chance to become acquainted with other students and offer helpful tips about how to succeed on campus.
Food and Dining While the food was diverse enough to satisfy almost any taste, I did feel that the food plan for freshmen was very pricey. I tended to be in class or at work until after Hurley hall closed and most days I was unable to even use my meal plan at all. Freshman students are forced to purchase the second most expensive meal plan and I wish I had been able to chose a smaller or less expensive meal plan my freshman year because I wouldn't have wasted as much money on a plan I could barely used.
Dorm Life The dorms at eastern are absolutely lovely. During my freshman year I lived in Constitution Hall, which offered suite style dorms. Each suite was spacious enough for the two students that occupied it, and having our own bathroom was definitely a plus. For my second and third year I chose to live in apartment style housing where each student had their own bedroom and there was a shared living room, bathroom, and kitchen. Having a kitchen is quite wonderful and costs quite a bit less than the food plan.
Academic Rigor I have found that while many of my classes at Eastern do include larger projects, I have always been given ample time to work on and ask questions about all of them. I feel that my for load at Eastern is slightly less than or about equal to what would expect from my high school.
Tips for prospective students If I could give any advice to an incoming freshmen, I would tell them that asking your professors for guidance is the best thing you could possibly do. All of Eastern's professors are willing to schedule times for student to ask questions, or ask for help on tricky assignments. Not asking for help is the worst possible thing you could do because you are only hurting yourself.
In three sentences I absolutely love Eastern Connecticut State University because of all it has to offer. The campus is beautiful, the dorms are comfortable, the people are friendly, and there's always something to do on campus. Plus Eastern is the biggest bang for your buck in this economy.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are never any big issues on campus, and when things come up, they are are handled immediately and effectively.
Clubs and Activities Huge selection
Great for these types of students Great for anyone who is open-minded.
Bang for the buck Eastern provides a great selection of courses, activities, and resources for a great price.
What to do for fun Eastern and its clubs will keep you busy all year, not to mention outside community events that celelbrate a variety of cultures, like Third Thursday/Streetfest.
Food and Dining The food is probably better than what most students could mke for themselves, and they offer a good selection. There are a few different dining environments and many awesome local restaurants.
Dorm Life I live off campus, but Eastern always has fun activities and information about some great fundraising activities posted everywhere. You can't help but get into it.
Academic Rigor At Eastern, you are responsible for your education. Professors here could teach at any university they desire, and you can go into a class willing to contribute and excel, and you will do great, but if you don't try, your grades will reflect it. Eastern won't 'give you grades' to keep you in the system.
Tips for prospective students Enroll in a variety of courses from different subject areas, especially in the first two years, since these years focus on general education requirements. Eastern offers many opportunites to explore other fields and interesting topics with its gen-eds. Also, enjoy the activities they provide for you!
In three sentences Eastern is a diverse community of learners who are well-integrated into the local community. Eastern offers many opportunities for professional development, as well as for networking and fun activities. This school is well worth the money with a practical education.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I never feel unsafe on campus. There are blue lights everywhere in sight, so even though I've never had to use them, I know that the campus police can be there for me in a matter of seconds. The only problem I can report is that there was money, video games, and a camera stolen in the dorms. However, as long as you keep your door locked at all times and keep your valuable items out of sight, you will be fine.
Clubs and Activities Join a club! Not only will you make new friends because you share common interests or hobbies, you'll become a part of a family. Repertory Dance Troupe is one of my favorite parts about being on campus; I get to choreograph my own dances and have fun learning from my peers as well.
Bang for the buck The food doesn't match up to the cost, but when you take into account the amazing friends you'll make, the free social events and free food, and the interesting and engaging learning experiences, Eastern is so worth it.
What to do for fun The Campus Activities Board (aka CAB) never fails to provide cool bands and other entertainment for the weekend. There are events almost every weekend. For instance, last semester they had a carnival, a 90's night, an arcade, a country night, and much more. Do NOT go home on the weekend; I promise, you will not be bored.
Food and Dining The student center and library cafe provide pretty good meals, a variety of beverages, and other fresh items you would find in a grocery store. (You MUST try the smoothies!) However, I have nothing good to say about the dining hall. Although it's buffet style, I am often disappointed in the selection and the quality of the food. If the dining hall knows there are tours or other family events going on, the food is amazing. Making your own sandwich, waffles, and salad is your best bet here. Some of their soups taste deliciously homemade, too.
Dorm Life Adjusting to having a roommate is a quicker process than what you expect, and you have plenty of opportunities to have the room to yourself as well. Everyone is very friendly and greets you, even if they don't know you. It isn't always easy if you have a loud roommate or a roommate who likes to party and stay out later than you. However, I think that Eastern matches people up pretty well. Some of the buildings are about thirty years old, but most of them are new and beautiful. Just bring a fan and be prepared for a nice bonding experience. Moreover, the Resident Assistants create activities each week to bring the whole building together, and there is always free food! It's a great way to meet new people.
Academic Rigor Although some classes weren't as challenging as what I expected, I feel that the academic rigor has gradually increased over each semester. Eastern presents their courses in a manner in which you can slowly adjust to the increased work load and develop good study habits. The professors are tough, yet understanding. They are certainly more than willing to answer questions and allow for democratic learning, so you are not overwhelmed.
Tips for prospective students For prospective students, I would recommend coming to Eastern with an open mind and a smile because you'll make new friends and adjust quicker than what you think. Also, attend as many campus activities and events as possible because they are free and so much fun!
In three sentences Eastern Connecticut State University provides a welcoming and community-oriented environment. The professors, resident assistants, and other faculty members are dedicated to making you feel comfortable and helping you achieve success. With a small campus and a big heart, Eastern truly is home.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus Safety is wonderful they around all the time 24/7 protecting students.
Greek Life There is not Greek life and eastern but you can join with other universities
Clubs and Activities there are many Clubs and Activities located on campus. you can even start one as well.
Great for these types of students eastern is great for many students
What to do for fun Every weekend Eastern offer FAD which is where students can come together and enjoy activities among one another.
Food and Dining The food is every wonderful and the dinning service is excellent. you can have easy access to many types of food opinions.
Dorm Life Dorm life is wonderful and comfortable, you get to meet new and exciting people everyday. You become familiar with faces in a short amount of time where eventually you know everyone.
Academic Rigor Eastern Connecticut State University is the states designated public liberal arts college. Within the Connecticut State University System, Eastern, a predominantly undergraduate institution, attracts and welcomes a diverse community of learners, supported by a teaching faculty, staff, administrators, and a residential campus, all of which promote intellectual curiosity, integrity, and social responsibility
Tips for prospective students Students who are willing to attend Eastern Connecticut State University should have a open mind to explored different opportunities and venture out of there comfort zone.
In three sentences Eastern Connecticut State University is a wonderful school to attend. This school offer you many opportunities where you can network and meet new people. Also with the small size classrooms you can have more of a hands on learning experience with your professor.

Categories Comments Food and Dining The Student Center and the Library Cafe both have excellent food. What brings the rating down is Hurley. Hurley is required for freshman and upperclassmen living in Niedjlalick. Hurley is definitely not great food by any means, and would stay away from it all cost.
Dorm Life Willimantic is a bit of a sketchy area, so you do hear about crime around the town. As long as you're careful about where you go in town late at night, you should be fine. The dorm buildings are small and very community like. You become friends with most of the people living in the rooms surrounding you.
Academic Rigor The classes here aren't too challenging that you'll feel overwhelmed or stressed all the time. A good level of stress is put, but definitely not too much. I haven't had to write many papers, but I have friends that have had too. Most teachers give study guides for their exams as well.
Tips for prospective students Eastern classes aren't overwhelmingly challenging, but you really shouldn't slack off. The teachers are usually really helpful and take the time to learn every student's name, so don't be afraid to speak up in class or talk to them about assignments, etc.
In three sentences Eastern is a great school to attend and pursue one's degree and post-secondary education. The classes are small enough to not feel like just another number. The campus is small and the Eastern community is very close-knit.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus has one or two incidents per year which usually happen right outside of campus and involves a student. Willimanitic is not the safest place, so students try not to walk alone off campus at night.
What to do for fun There are many campus activities that take place. Eastern has a Campus Activity Board that designs trips and activities for students to do. They include things such as going to the Bronx zoo, to having a tournament in the gym.
Food and Dining The food in Hurley Dining Hall is not so great but the Student Center has some pretty good food that costs a little more.
Dorm Life Many students go away on weekends so it is referred to as a suitcase school. The dorms are very big and in great condition. Eastern is known for the quality of the dorms.
Academic Rigor Level 300 and 400 classes are generally very difficult and involve a lot of time and work. There are a lot of research papers to write and academic articles to read and understand.
Tips for prospective students Have a plan as soon as you can. Don't fall behind on work and always keep your goal in mind. Try to involve yourself in any extra activities you can on campus.
In three sentences It is a very diverse school with many options. The teachers are excellent and are very educated in their subjects. There is free tutoring offered and the school provides a lot of extra help for any student seeking it.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Always safe on campus, but always have a buddy with you at night. Regardless of how safe it is.
Greek Life None as of yet. They have been talking about adding it, but not sure if that will happen
Clubs and Activities Many options. It shouldn't be hard for someone to find something they're interested in. Make sure to check the website.
What to do for fun There are a lot of programs that throw events, parties and fundraisers. There are many clubs to pick and join from, and joining them will definitely enhance your experience here, as well as joining intramural sports or school sports.
Food and Dining It's college food. Not bad, but but not better than a home cooked meal. You will always miss home cooked meals.
Dorm Life Dorms here are fantastic. Clean, spacious in many cases, and fun. (hint: the way you arrange furniture definitely can expand the room size).
Academic Rigor It's not amazingly hard, but it's definitely not easy. In other words, like at any other school, you have to study and try.
Tips for prospective students Ask questions if needed, otherwise you will not find out until last minute. Make sure to have your financial things set and ready to go very early on in the process or going to school, such as taxes, scholarships, etc. Have fun, don't party too much, study, and enjoy your time.
In three sentences The school is wonderful and has a lot to offer. Can sometimes be difficult to communicate with faculty who are supposed to be there to answer financial problems or school related issues. But is a very good school to look into.

Categories Comments Campus Safety the campus uses the blue light emergency system and the campus police are always ready. the dorms are also very safe and protected using electronic fob keys. it is also easy to find the campus saftey number and the alert system is reliable.
Clubs and Activities there are so many clubs to choose from and at the beginning of the year there is a club fair where you can sign up for whatever pleases you. most clubs schedule their meetings so that they do not interfere with classes. joining clubs are the best way to meet new people and make new friends.
Bang for the buck eastern definietly does not over charge you fro education like some schools. the cost is fair and well worth it to get your degree here.
What to do for fun there is always something to do on campus, whether it be movie night, a comedian, or watching the sports games. there are also at least 50 clubs and groups to join as well and if there is not a club that you like thats not organized yet you can get your own started.
Food and Dining the dining hall has a wide variety of food to choose from and also has some themed dinners, which are always fun and interesting. the staff is very friendly and the meal plans do not cheat you out of your money. the student center cafe also serves ready to order subs and other freshly made food from barbeque to pizza.
Dorm Life the campus is just the right size that wherever you live you are within a short walk of the library, dining hall, or academic buildings. the dorms are well-maintianed and have an energenic r.a staff. most upperclassmen dorms are apartment style and newer. the housing community is close-knit and a lot of fun.
Academic Rigor the professors want you to put effprt and apply yourself into your academics, they will not just hand you your degree, you have to earn it. the workload can be demanding at times, never procrastinate, the professors generally give you a respectable amount of time to complete essays and projects.
Tips for prospective students never skip classes because the professors will not repeat their whole lecture for you, college is a time to take responsibility and eastern is a place to acquire that. also, make sure you attend a 4-year plan workshop, it is very benificial in seeinf which courses you need to take in coming years and it saves time when you have to register for classes.
In three sentences eastern is a great liberal arts school that is concerened with their students education. ecsu is a great size where the professors know you by name and can be more one-on-one with you to help you succeed. this school also has a helpful advising staff and system to make sure youo stay on track to graduate on time.

What to do for fun i am involved in multiple clubs and there are always a lot of events on campus that i attend.
Tips for prospective students get to know your professors, because they take the time to try to get to know you. take advantage of the clubs and resources on campus because they can help you through anything.
In three sentences eastern is a small tight-knit society where you can feel at home. your teachers know you by your name and not a number, and can give you the individualized time you need. they make it easy to adjust and everyone is very friendly.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Kids trying to stay close to home, an affordable alternative, Excellent for prospective education majors
Bang for the buck This is one of Connecticut's public universites. It is a great price for what you get. It all depends though, because Eastern doesn't have a wide range of majors. Housing is on the pricey side though, for what you get.
Am enjoying being here I'm honestly not truly enjoying Eastern. I feel like I just came here because it was my only last option at a true college experience. The campus is pretty dead on weekends because most students go home. I usually just go home on the weekends. Even though some say there are things to do over the weekends, there really isn't much to do at all.
Am learning a lot Still in my freshman year and I have been able to take a great variety of classes.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Eastern is a great school for students of all majors, it is a liberal arts college, the only one in Connecticut. If you are undecided that is fine also come here and they have so many different programs that can help you decide what you want to do.
Tips for prospective students Come up and take a tour of the campus you will automatically fall in love! It isnt as big as Uconn but that is good because everything is close together so you know exactly where you are going. Talk to students that go to Eastern and see what they think about it and just research the college more.
Bang for the buck You get a lot of cool things included in your tuition price. There is more than 1 place to eat here on campus and for the other places that isnt free, included in your meal plan you get dining dollars that you can use to eat at othe places besides the dining hall. Also part of your tutition goes towards your residence hall and you can plan what you wanna do with that many, ranges from trips to Eastern Apparel.
Am enjoying being here There are a lot of things to do on campus you just have to know how to find them, they have a calender on their home page with events that are going on around campus each and everyday, even on the weekends!
Am learning a lot The teachers here are all here for your benefit and will do anything they can to help you succed. The class sizes are similar to the ones in high school, average class size is about 20 students.

Bang for the buck Slightly more expensive than what I am used to, but definitely worth it.

Will learn a lot Definitely, step higher than community college in my opinion.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Everyone. There is a wide variety of majors/minors and there are activities that every type of student can enjoy.
Tips for prospective students Just go to class and do your work. Don't be a trouble maker, and go to class. If you're grades aren't satisfactory you'll be on academic probation and that's really not good. Just do what you think is right and you'll be fine. Use your head and have a good time, but be smart about it.
Bang for the buck The school actually isn't that expensive, which is nice because most students don't have very much money and you do get a great education for what you're paying. There are cheaper schools out there, but sometimes you have to pay extra to get the better education. As much as I hated getting a loan, it was worth it in the end.
Am enjoying being here I love being at Eastern. The campus is really nice and the people are really friendly. It's easy to make friends, especially in the freshman dorms. I sat in the common room of my dorm last year and became great friends with the other girls on my floor. It was great.
Am learning a lot The professors at ECSU are extremely helpful and actually know what they're talking about. I haven't yet encountered a professor that didn't offer to help students out of class. The school is a liberal arts college, so we learn more than we would at the other CSU schools and it's wonderful.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Middle of the road students, people who don't like or need frats or sororities, and intelligent underachievers like me. :)
Tips for prospective students If you apply, talk to Dr. PAMELA STARR! She's an amazing person and has already been a great resource for me. If you have AD(H)D, OCD, or any type of disability, she is DEFINITELY the first person you want to see once you're accepted.
Bang for the buck Considering that this is the best CSU system school, and -IMHO- WAY nicer than UConn, this is really a steal. I might not even need to go into too much debt, which is a lifesaver in this economy.
Will enjoy being here I'm a Willimantic native, so if anyone tells you that the natives are scary, they're probably stuck-up suburbanites who are too good to live in a city. Willimantic has some great stuff going on -Streetfest, live music, plenty of stores-, and the WRTD bus takes you to Storrs for free if you're a student (It's either free or subsidized) If you really need to go to a UConn party, just take a bus or get a local friend to take you to Carriage House.
Will learn a lot It's not UConn, but that's a part of its draw. I doubt you'll take any classes with more than thirty people, whereas your freshman classes at UConn might have upwards of fifty, maybe a hundred. I'm not saying it's a bad school, but UConn is a completely different atmosphere. My friends who go there feel like numbers. It's nowhere near as friendly as ECSU, and more and more of the students are rich, spoiled kids who's trust funds ran out. MY parents are UConn alums, and they're ashamed of how UConn's gotten worse. ECSU is the way to go!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you love a school that's small and cozy then this is perfect. I came here because it is beautiful and the class rooms aren't big lecture halls so you get to know your professor and the student around you.
Bang for the buck The food is great and so are all the services. Webb hall has an amazing computer lab that is open almost 24/7. The Library is very well equipped. Everything at Eastern is top quality.
Am enjoying being here People here are very nice and always willing to help. If you have an issues they get acknowledged. The campus is always beautiful which makes it even better to be there.
Am learning a lot I have enjoyed most of my teachers. The more they know and enjoy the topic they teach the easier it is to learn and enjoy it yourself. I have gotten that experience from a lot of my teachers. They are always there to help out.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who want a small atmosphere but not too small will do well here. Also students who do not want to be in debt decades after college will like the price of Eastern.
Tips for prospective students If you want a smaller college where you can be recognized by your teachers and get good recommendations, I suggest Eastern. The faculty strive to help their students and hard work pays off here. If you want a city college don;t come here because Eastern has limited city life. Uconn is very close and is convenient if you have friends attending there.
Bang for the buck Eastern is known for its good biology, accounting, and teaching programs as well as others. The education is proven to be substantial because Eastern made it in the Top 100 university in the US. It is also half the price of many privates schools so you end up paying even less than what you would at other schools with a $15,000 scholarship.
Am enjoying being here Despite what some people may think about the campus, I love this place. I have been fortunate to get into the nicer dorms but I have found many things to do to keep myself busy. The Campus Activity Board is constantly has new things to do and night and the Friday After Dark program also provides weekend trips and events. I feel safe on campus and they are trying to make more improvements. You can make a good time or be a hermit and watch tv, thats up to you.
Am learning a lot I am currently a biology major at Eastern and have been challenged. Sure some of the information is review, but I have been surrounded by lots of new and exciting things I never knew about. Almost all of my teachers have put a significant amount of time to helping me learn and have always been available when I needed them. At first I disliked the idea of a liberal arts college, but I quickly realized that it can be fun to learn about irrelevant things in life. Also as a science major, almost all of the major classes have a lab, which means hands on experience that solidifies what you are learning.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students anyone who prefers small classes and a well rounded education
Tips for prospective students there are not many majors, but you can create a personalized major of just about anything. it is a great, small school that gives you the most rounded education compared to other Connecticut state schools.
Bang for the buck meal plan is way overpriced and required if in certain housing. if you live close enough, commute to save some money
Am enjoying being here join a club or a sport and you will have a tight group of friends and plenty to do besides academics.
Am learning a lot depends on the class. check 'ratemyprofessor.com' before signing up for their class.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This school is best for students who do not want to be in an enormous school with lecture halls. If you like recognizing most of the people on campus and being able to have a good relationship with your teachers, Eastern may be your match! It is also very art oriented and was originally a teacher college!
Tips for prospective students Get involved and stay for the weekends! There are so many fun things to do on campus which is a great way to meet people. Also, a little known fact about Eastern is that it is considered a suitcase school, meaning that many students go home for the weekend. But weekends are the best time to get work done and socialize! There are always events on campus for the weekends!!
Bang for the buck Considering this is a state school and it is not too costly, the buildings, especially the dorms and library, are of very high quality. They are new and very up to date.
Am enjoying being here I love the campus! It is small and you will know most of the people in your residence hall! There are always free activities on campus and plenty of clubs and sports, both intramural and varsity, to join. One of the downsides to the campus is that it is in the middle of Willimantic which is an urban city with little to do if you are not on campus.
Am learning a lot All the classes are small and personal. The professors are very willing to help you, will know your name, and truly care about your success! Not only have I learned a lot about my major (and I'm only a freshman), but I am learning how to be independent!
