Millsaps College is a private liberal arts college that is affiliated with the United Methodist Church. This Christian institution offers specialized academic programs that include a teaching fellowship, a writing program and an honors program. The school is also known to have built the first golf course in Mississippi in 1901. The 100-acre campus houses the James Observatory, the oldest building on the campus, where students can look at the stars. The campus is also centered around "The Bowl," which hosts concerts, annual commencement ceremonies, and homecoming events take place each year.
