On campus, there are almost always free events going on to attend, whether its interesting guest speakers or free food. Off campus, Jackson has a lot to offer as far as entertainment. The New Civil Rights Museum just opened, and there is a Zoo right down the road.

Jackson so by no means a very busy or active city. Most things to do you would have to travel a little outside of Jackson for the most part. Despite that, the outside locations aren't far, that is if you don't consider 15 to 20 minutes to be far. Nearby, there is a little area called Fondren that is rather popular with Millsaps and Belhaven students, in this area, there are restaurants, bars and small eatery places. The places to get meals from are Saltine's, Baba Lu's, Rooster's. Sal and Mookies, and Surin of Thailand. There is also a smaller pizza place near Rooster's as well. There are two bakeries that I have been to called Campbell's and La Brioche. Campbell's is more so your standard bakery with other eats as well. La Brioche on the other hand, is more so a patisserie, and sells more novelty pastries and sweets, for a nice price. They also cater, sell sorbetto and gelato, and hot beverages. There is also a small frozen yogurt place in Fondren as well. There is also a Cup's, which is a cafe, in this area as well. Not too far from the campus, there is also the Natural Science Museum, and the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum and Mississippi Art Museum downtown. In the downtown area, is Thalia Mara Hall, which on a regular occasion, has showings of musicals, operas, plays and ballets - Including Belhaven and a Chapel down the street from the campus. A bit outside of the Jackson area is where you will find more options for eating, general fun activities and shopping centers. Shopping centers that are available are Northpark Mall and Ridgeland area, The Outlets of Pearl, The Renaissance Shopping Center, the Flowood/Dogwood area, and other parts of Madison. You have a plethora of restaurants in these areas, be it quick eat restaurants to more formal affair establishments. These areas are around 15 to 30 minutes away from the campus, and you can also find bowling and skating/ice skating areas as well. In terms of special events, there is also the Mississippi Black Rodeo, Mississippi State Fair, Canton City Lights and various concerts that may be going on. However, the Canton City Lights is in Canton and that is over 30 minutes away. The State Fair is a HUGE attraction: numerous stalls of food (the big hits being the Saltwater Taffy, Lemonade, Cinnamon Buns and Turkey Legs), certain-day concerts, numerous rides, for both younger patrons and older, the petting zoo and the usual carny stands. Of course, you won't find any huge rollercoasters (Depending on if they bring the Nitro that particular year), but it does have it fair share of fast, crazy and awesome rides.

Jackson isn't the most exciting city ever, so looking for something fun to do can be a bit of a struggle sometimes. You can go to the movie theater, to the reservoir, bowling, ice skating in the winter, etc.

  • I am accepted here and planning to attend soon

Millsaps is located in Jackson, Mississippi, which is the state's capital. There are plenty of great restaurants, museums, and other activities in town. On campus, fraternity and sorority functions provide plenty of fun, and there are always live theatre, music and dance performances on campus. The Millsaps Lecture Series provides incredible speakers and entertainers each month.

The fraternities often have theme parties on the weekend. If you're 21, you can go to the bars downtown. There are many great restaurants to eat at located closely to the college.

Bar scene around Jackson is mostly 21+ but everyone is welcome at the fraternity houses on weekends and because Millsaps is a gated, small campus it provides as a safe place to party.
