    Campus Safety

There's police officers near the entrance of the school and are always roaming around.

    Clubs and Activities

Aside from the activities I mentioned in the "What to Do for Fun" category, there are also a decent amount of clubs mostly for video games and STEM fields. It's the typical stuff, and if you want to make your own club, go for it.

Great for these types of students

Those who couldn't get into university or students who want a cheaper alternative to university that has the same amount of academics.

    What to do for fun

Around noon, there are several campus events that are either academic focused or life-focused. In addition, near finals week there is Stress Free week, in which you get free food and the option to play in a jungle gym.

    Food and Dining

There are several places to buy food (mostly Starbucks) and a primary cafeteria to buy snacks and meals. I haven't tried the food myself, but it looks appetizing.

    Academic Rigor

From my experience so far, it just feels slightly easier than high school academics. However, it just depends on your class and your teacher.

    Tips for prospective students

Always ask for help if needed, everyone's on the same boat and everyone's willing to help you.

    In three sentences

Southwestern College is pretty much what you should expect from a community college. The staff are always very helpful and are always willing to know you personally and help you with your goals. The students are not the brightest in the world, but they are there to learn.

    Dorm Life

no dorms, only some apartments near that look very nice.

    Academic Rigor

swc is not that hard depending on what your major is, but as long as you study and attend class you should be okay. also i recommend going to the tutoring building, attend the professors office hours and get into a study group it helped me a lot!

    Tips for prospective students

i would recommend to apply for fasfa and other services geared towards helping out pay books and fees. also it is better to rent out books rather than buying them online or at the bookstore, it is cheaper renting. get informed and visit the counselors often sign up with the transfer center and attend the workshops they offer they can help with transferring information.

    In three sentences

pretty decent community college very clean, professors and staff are pretty knowledgeable, offers a lot of different resources to help the students out. there are plentiful numbers of clubs and organizations you can join that is dedicated to your liking. i would rate the swc 8 out of 10 because parking can be quite a hassle to find especially in the mornings.

Campus security is available 'til late in the evening. They'll even come and escort you, if you request it. I never came across any safety issues. The lighting at night is adequate.

    Greek Life

Not really a sorority kind of life, but there are the honors societies, like Phi Theta Kappa and Psi Beta.

    Clubs and Activities

ASO (student government) sponsored activities, also club activities for the general student population. Environmental Club, Psi Beta, SHPE, MEChA, Judo Club, Gay/Straight Alliance, Pagkakaisa, A.B.L.E. Club, Clay Club, and many more! (The charters may vary a little every year.) With just a few signatures and a faculty advisor, you could even start your own club!

Great for these types of students

Hispanic, disabled... everyone! (Some walking required, though.)

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Personally love the student mariachi band!

    Bang for the buck

Definitely a wonderful experience in and of itself, but it also has great transfer agreements with CA universities. I highly recommend stepping your way into the university by taking care of your lower divisions and core curriculums while getting your Associate's Degree at an amazing college such as this one.

    What to do for fun

Participate in Clubs!! All clubs are housed in the Student Center, right in front of the library. Everything from Anime & Games to honors societies! The ASO also sponsors many cool events for the student population at large. This college even has its own mariachi and a pretty complete Performing Arts division.

    Food and Dining

Cafeteria food is pretty decent. I particularly liked the sandwich bar. You can choose how to build your sandwich. There's a salad bar, too. They offer deals and packages. I know there are more options, but I don't remember.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms. What else am I expected to say in order to fill up the minimum required so as to be eligible to win a scholarship? There are plenty of apartments in the area, though.

    Academic Rigor

Professors do require a lot of you, but, the workload is do-able, not overwhelming. Once in a while, you'll get a picky teacher, but, as long as you're diligent, you'll get to the level they expect of you.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved with the ASO and campus clubs!!! A little goes a long way, and if your professors and advisors see your extra effort, they'll support you when it comes to letters of recommendation and even nominations for the annual SODA or Student Of Distinction Awards$

    In three sentences

My time at SWC was the best part of my life, so far. Most of the faculty and staff are extremely warm and helpful. The faculty are professionals in their field, so they share a lot of experience.

If you are alone, be careful about where you stay if you choose to settle on an outdoor space. It is much safer to stay indoors, either at the Library, Tradewinds Cafe, or Student Hall after 4.

    Clubs and Activities

There are various student academic groups and clubs. There is a wide array of groups that can benefit or match student interests. From the Hiking Club, to the Academic student organization, students can find a body of students to share activities with. Some of these clubs can also provide some form of experience or training for students who wish to apply their interest in a career; such as photography or politics.

Great for these types of students

This college is great for students who want to save money when starting out their college career. Due to it's open acceptance, virtually anybody can be accepted as well. For anybody who prefers smaller-sized campuses and fewer people, this school indefinitely meets the credentials.

    What to do for fun

This school holds quite a few sports, theater, and art events on campus. There are also recreational centers for students, such as the student hall and the gaming room. Lastly, there are an abundance of new flyers every week announcing some kind of event, or club activity. There is always something to do on campus. If one doesn't wish to participate in these functions, there are also many quiet spaces that individuals can go to relax, read, and unwind.

    Food and Dining

There are multiple food establishments on the campus and around the outskirts of the school. There is a cafe that provide Starbucks related products, luncheons for snacks and cooked meals, and a smaller food shack for quick pick-me-ups in between classes. Overall, food quality is good and easily accessible. However, it can get pretty pricey.

    Dorm Life

There are no dormitories on campus. However, there are several houses and apartments around the area.

    Academic Rigor

The characters of the professors differ, but share the same strife to help students. Many of them transferred to teach at this institution from other high status colleges to provide the best education possible for those who are not financially fit to attend universities. The professors I have encountered are very compassionate, and will stay after class to address any problems, academically or personally. There are a few that could improve their work ethic, but a majority of these professors are enthusiastic about teaching and helping their students achieve success.

    Tips for prospective students

Consult the school website for important information, such as dates, papers, and online registration. Be prepared with all your school-related documents and essentials for the first day. Check with a counselor to establish a solid Student Education Plan (SEP). Parking lots can get packed between 7-9 and 11-1, make sure to come early to get a good spot!

    In three sentences

Despite being a community college, this institution provides a plethora of resources to at reasonable costs. The student body and professors alike are very easy-going but extremely hard-working and determined. This school can help anybody jump-start their future, regardless if they are fresh out of high school or returning to school to start a new career.

    What to do for fun

Being a community college, there isn't a lot of university style fun to be had. However there are numerous student clubs and activities that can be joined.

    Food and Dining

Several different options are available for grabbing a bite between classes. The cafeteria food is surprisingly good for what it is, and smaller snacks are available at the coffee huts and bookstore. This is a dry campus.

    Dorm Life

No dorms available - this is a community (2-year) college.

    Academic Rigor

Variable from simple life-improvement classes up through calculus and chemistry type classes. Many classes have honors options for those looking for a more rigorous education.

    Tips for prospective students

Explore the campus before your classes start - it isn't large, but is still big enough to get lost on. Make use of the programs and opportunities available to veterans and financial aid qualified students. Most of all, take the time to sit back in the grass and relax between classes - the park-like feeling that parts of the campus have is perfect for de-stressing after an exam or before a long lecture.

    In three sentences

This school is a great jumping off point for transfer degrees and further education. The campus is somewhat older, but has a wonderful park-like feel to it, with newer buildings scattered throughout. Overall the professors and staff are top notch and perform their teaching duties well.

    Campus Safety

There are campus police at all times and are readily available for students to contact if need be. Southwestern College has never had any major incidents.

    Clubs and Activities

There are dozens of clubs at southwestern college from the hiking club to the chemistry club. Each club organizes their own activities and fundraisers and agrees on some educational activity to do with those funds. The clubs also participate in the school's festivals if they desire to do so and promote their club and whatever else their club has to off or has going on.

Great for these types of students

The student center is a great place for students that like to play pool or card games with their friends.

    What to do for fun

A lot of clubs would go out occasionally and hold different types of fundraisers. Usually they would sell a certain type of food, but the clubs make it fun by serving very creative food ideas. Also, the associated student organization organizes quarterly events such as festivals to welcome a new semester or relieve stress before finals. Festivals include different types of food, clubs hosting games, recreational activities, music, and crafts.

    Food and Dining

Cafeteria is great and offers a variety of foods. There are even a range of healthy foods like the salad bar or choosing what to put on his/her sand which. The cafe serves just about the same food as the cafeteria, with a little more variety from pizza to Mexican tortas. There are also a couple of coffee shops on campus, with one being owned by a dear man who sells his coffee with his signature recipes. Overall pricing is reasonable as well.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms here at Southwestern College. However there are town homes right next to the college that students may live in if they can afford to do so.

    Academic Rigor

The chemistry department is one of the toughest at Southwestern College compared to other community colleges. Math, science, and engineering courses make up the majority of higher academic rigor.

    Tips for prospective students

A very helpful tip would be to already have in mind where the student desires to transfer to and what that student wants to study. Another tip would be to never quit taking classes. Visit an academic counselor each semester to ensure the student is on track for transferring or earning their associates/certificate. Get involved in school activities

    In three sentences

Attending Southwestern College may be time consuming but it will help any student get to where he or she desires to go. There may be times where a student is mislead in the proper steps to take in order to transfer, resulting in an educational delay. However, overall, the faculty and staff are there for the students when they do need help in order to succeed, and that is one of the most important aspects when attending any community college.

    Clubs are really fun

    Food and Dining

The food is really good and you can find all sorts of coffee.

    Dorm Life

There's no dorm life that I know of.

    Tips for prospective students

Some advice I would give to prospective students would be that college is something serious and that a lot of people are waiting for the opportunity that they have been given. If they don't know how to be responsible and take seriously their studies, others will overcome them.

    In three sentences

On August 2013 I became a freshman at Southwestern College and overall my experience there has been better than what I had expected. Everyone there is really nice and there are several groups for students to receive help if they need whether it's personal, financial, or academic. I am looking forward to the next few years there before I transfer to a 4-year university.

Anyone is welcome at SWC. I love how everyone is friendly and nice (: People are minding their own business and doing their own thing (:

    What to do for fun

There are some performances from different clubs at SWC. That includes singing, dancing, or playing an instruments. They are very entertaining and fun to watch. Sometimes we have people visit and set up booths and sell food, accessories, bags and clothes. If you just want to lay down on the grass, go ahead. a lot of students do that. it is pretty fun yet relaxing.

    Food and Dining

Excellent!!! The Time-out Cafe, Tradewinds Cafe, and the cafeteria offers a variety of food and drinks. Everything is delicious and at a reasonable price. The cafeteria is roomy if you want to eat with your friends or if you just want to hang out there. I love it!!!

    Academic Rigor

I love the academic rigor at Southwestern because it offers some majors for a diversity of students. People are always studying and doing their own thing. The tutors are really helpful if you ask for help.

    Tips for prospective students

For the prospective students. My advice is talk to a counselor about your educational plan whether it is getting an associates degree or transferring. it is highly important to have a major in mind. But if not, that is okay because there are career counselors that can help you with your career. Also talk to your professor about your major and the requirements on how much schooling. do not stress to much. Just give yourself time to study for exams.

    Academic Rigor

The academic load is manageable, I try to balance my classes with ones that I know will be easy and combining them at the same time with difficult ones. It is college so teachers will expect more of you but it is still manageable and nice.

    Tips for prospective students

Talk to the counselor about the universities you want to transfer, also enjoy some of the art classes, the teachers are great and it is a fun way to get to know more of the art medium processes of creation. There is security and police around in the daytime, with plenty of options to contact them in case of emergency. There are many telephones around the campus and in every classroom used only for emergency. However, those taking night classes will feel less safe with few to no police at all.

    Food and Dining

Each part of the campus has a food area, with two coffee shops and two cafeterias. Food is freshly prepared and a variety of options for a quick snack or a heavy meal. The hours available for these services are mostly for students in the morning and afternoon classes, not for the evening classes. Some of the foods and products are over priced, although it is the student's discretion on their choice of meal. Very few options for those with allergies or vegetarian.

    Dorm Life

Many of the students commute to this campus, convenient for those living in the communities around Southwestern College.

    Academic Rigor

There are a variety of professors each with their set of experiences and standards that set as a foundation to their teaching styles. Depending on the course, some understand that their class will be difficult, while others expect much more from the student and going beyond average. Many of the professors are quite open minded to the variety of backgrounds their students have, taking into consideration how they will teach a class that may have graduated high school or never been. Professors do try to challenge the students and others have made difficult or new subjects simpler to understand. Expectations of the professors do vary, depending on what department and the rigor of the course.

    Tips for prospective students

It is important to remember why you are at this college, because it is easy to start neglecting your classes and not focusing on your goals. Make an appointment with a counselor and take plenty of workshops over the summer to understand anything your need to know about transfer applications, scholarship assistance, or what you need to be successful in your academic goals. For those transferring, show your ambition to transfer especially in the counseling and transfer centers because it is quite difficult to schedule an appointment.

A great college for whatever your academic goals are - whether to transfer, get a degree or certificate, you can see that the faculty and professors want to see their students succeed. The atmosphere is ideal for those who are new to college, with many events and activities throughout the semester to break the ice. Student services are always available, with extended hours for tutoring centers, counselors for a quick question, and a few food places to energize.

There are so many Hispanic students here, some commute from Mexico to attend here. The teachers accommodate them if they have a hard time speaking, and a lot of the jobs require you to be bilingual in Spanish and English, so I would highly recommend Southwestern for Spanish Speaking students.

    Bang for the buck

The teachers will help you if you need it, but as we all know or should learn quickly, they are not high school teachers and will not chase us around. It's your responsibility to seek help when it's needed. If you keep up with everything, you will be able to afford to have fun on the side as well!

    What to do for fun

This is also the place where you learn how much you can take in order for you to get where you want to be at; however the college life is not for every one. It can be intense depending on your career choice, but ultimately it is your decision to better yourself. In every class i've took i have failed to see one that will not help me out in the real world. The professors are amazing and the classes are well put together.

    Tips for prospective students

Some tips I would give to students trying to enroll would be make sure to speak to a counselor as soon as possible, be involved in school activities, and join EOPS and other programs that fit your financial situation. You should always speak to a counselor to find out what classes you should be taking and to see if they an help you out in anything you need. Activities are also a good way to meet new people and be on top of things at school, also EOPS is a program that helps pay for books and offers emergency loans.

    In three sentences

Southwestern College is a good college to attend due to the fact that it has many classes available for students and have help students as much as possible to help them succeed. Counselors, EOPS program, and other help students to find scholarships, work and help pay for books for the semester. Time management is needed to complete assignments and homework. I found that starting assignments early helped me find the time to keep up with the reading.

    Tips for prospective students

    Campus Safety

There's emergency phones in so many places plus there's the little golf carts driving around so I did not feel unsafe at all in my 2 years attending this college. Yet, you never know so just my advice for anyone in any school is to keep you're eyes open and don't just trust anyone before getting to know them a little more.

    What to do for fun

There's a great variety of excercise classes offered here if you're into sports and being active, and there's also a nice student center building where there's a pool table and some video games available for everyone. There's also comfy chairs and sofa's at the student center where you can just chill and maybe take a quick nap, or outside under the trees where you can feel the breeze and maybe just meet with some friends.

    Food and Dining

There's a new cafeteria and it's really nice, there's tables outside and inside and they have a great variety of foods. From cold to hot meals to little snacks and they're not that much more expensive than the 7eleven that's across the street. It's at a great location with a Starbucks and little restaurants around it and there's not only one cafeteria but two, plus two little stands where you can get more little snacks or maybe a coffee to go.

    Dorm Life

There is no dorm life at this college and I wouldn't recommend it. This school gives good financial support so apply and either get an apartment near the school or stay with your parents.

    Academic Rigor

This also depends on what your study habits are and how you are doing academically, but I don't think that the classes are hard. Of course, there might be some that are a little more challenging than others, but this is like high school just more up to you as a student to learn without having so many teachers behind you pushing you all the way through.

    Tips for prospective students

Make the best out of you're time here and stop worrying about how good or bad your teachers are. It all comes down to how bad you want to succeed and I really believe that you can have a great experience at this community college if you give yourself the chance to do so. If you're having trouble with any of your classes there is great tutors at this school with are of great help and I highly encourage anyone to take advantage of it, it's free!

    In three sentences

I honestly have nothing but good things to say about this school, but it's like any other college: if you're only going to waste time and take 2 classes per semester be ready to be here for a while. It's a nice campus and if you really put you're mind into it you can get an A.A. in only 2 years easily. Teachers like in any other school as well, are sometimes not the best but there are teachers that really care about the students as well.

Compared with fees at other community colleges through out the nation, the California system is still quite a bargan.

    What to do for fun

A lot of fun and interesting activities on campus, as well as clubs and academic organizations to choose from.

    Food and Dining

On-campus 4/5. A lot of nearby choices to select from.

    Academic Rigor

4.5/5 Curriculum is competitive with other colleges and universities. You get our of it what you put in.

    Tips for prospective students

A good personal computer (laptop) and personal internet access account are now a necessity. Visit an academic couselor as soon as possible to discuss your educational goals and formulate a realistic plan of action so as not to waste valuable time and money. Try not to let finances get in the way of what you wish to accomplish. With careful planning and consistent investigation, you should be able to find the resources you need to make going to school affordable. Being a SUCCESSFUL student requires a serious commitment. Unless you are willing to make the commitment, don't waste other people's time and money by messing around or giving it a half-assed effort. The most successful students are those who spend the majority of their spare time at the library (even on weekends), with academic enrichment programs (tutoring/study centers/open labs), and in study groups, not at the student activity centers or parties. Keep in mind that the main goal is to get an education.

    In three sentences

This is a great school to begin your four year degree, obtain an associates, or complete some type of vocational training. There are a lot of different programs offered within most of the departments. The flexibility offered through the satellite campuses makes it easy to find choices to fit your educational plan and schedule.

There are plenty of large areas of grass to lay out on and just study or enjoy the sun. Many of the students lay out with peers in between classes everyday.

    What to do for fun

For fun you can get involved in sports and other extracurricular activities. There are also many groups for specific interests. Interests involving the environment, the newspaper, debate teams, and much more.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria food here is very delicious. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They have a soda fountain and all types of juices. There are also snacks, such as chips, doughnuts, or candy. The cafeteria also has deli sandwiches and a salad bar for you healthy eaters out there. There are specials everyday in the cafeteria too. Some days they have enchiladas or teriyaki bowls with steamed rice and other mouth watering meals. You won't be disappointed when grabbing a bite to eat at this cafeteria.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms here at Southwestern College.

    Academic Rigor

Some of the teachers here at Southwestern are either very laid back or very tough. Some actually treat you like a college student while some treat you like you're still in high school. If you prefer easy classes, then take them, but the tough teachers will help challenge you and better prepare you for the real deal when you transfer to a higher educational system. The academic rigor is not too tough, but it is tough enough to teach you that slacking off will get you no where in your classes.

    Tips for prospective students

Speak with a counselor as soon as possible. They will help you out with a semester by semester plan that will help you stay on track with your studies. Also, just because it is a community college does not mean it's going to be easy. Do everything asked and you will pass. Get involved with the activities at the school. There are plenty of them and the ones who run the activities are very friendly. If you plan on transferring from Southwestern all of these things will only raise your chances of being accepted into whichever school you choose to transfer to.

    In three sentences

there is a nearby starbucks and a tea shop for students to unwind. the athletics facilities provide a weight room, tennis and racquet courts, and a swimming pool (though i believe one must be registered in one of the swimming courses to enter the swimming area). if one is twenty-one, downtown san diego offers a plethora of options for those seeking to socialize or simply have fun; bars, clubs, and restaurants.

    Food and Dining

southwestern college's immediate vicinity offers the typical fast food and taco shop fare. there is a tea shop and japanese restaurant just across the street for those interested in some variety. if transportation is not an issue, nearby commercial centers offer some of the major restaurant chains (island's, daphne's, miguel's, etc..)

    Dorm Life

as far as i'm aware, there are no dorms within the vicinity of the college.

    Academic Rigor

classes in the subject areas of math and finance (including accounting) can be quite rigorous. instructors have high expectations of their students and conduct their classes at a very high level. departments such as philosophy, while not as rigorous per say, do push students to engage the world around them critically. the physical education classes (such as strength training) are enjoyable and challenging, as well. however, there have been some classes that i have found rather mediocre (in the science and foreign language departments, respectively) but one of these was due more to student immaturity than the instructor.

    Tips for prospective students

prospective students should be aware of the resources available to them, including counseling services, tutorials, and financial aid. most of these are located in the central student services section (along with the school computer lab). the new library is an excellent place to study and is seldom used by most students.

    In three sentences

having attended mount san antonio college for a few semesters up in walnut, i can't help but feel that southwestern college falls rather short of my expectations. the campus is small, and the course offerings are rather limited, but in the school's defense, the latter is probably a result of the recent wave of budget cuts afflicting most institutions of higher learning. however, there are great instructors on campus, especially in the areas of mathematics and accounting.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are looking for a convenient and affordable college until you decide to transfer to a University, I believe that Southwestern community college would be the right place for you.

    In three sentences

Southwestern, along with other community colleges, is a very affordable college for students who are indecisive or undecided of which major to pursue in college. Also, Southwestern is extremely convenient for me because I live so close to the campus. Southwestern College offers about 3 other campuses such as the National City campus and San Ysidro campus for students who find classes more closer to their residence in order for them to make it more convenient for the students.

    Clubs and Activities

There is quit a bit of sports that we offer ranging from football, volleyball, cheerleading, basketball and track. There are several clubs you can find out more information about that at ASO building located in the front campus (all glass building with chairs)

    Bang for the buck

The classes are within reason 36 dollars for every unit for instate students. The books can be bought online for cheaper but campus books are expensive !

I notice that there are alot of students that have made friends of become really friendly and chummy. They should make a friendship club. I'd name it Core Guild. Not so girly sounding like Friendship Club. LOL

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I like to treat myself when I get a good grade or finish a week of giving it my best work. I would go to my favorite restaurant and order honey walnut shrimp and plum wine. I usually get a helping of juicy delightful prime rib steak. I do this because I usually don't eat anything great during the work week because of time demands. So I treat myself to something healthy and yummy.

    Bang for the buck

Obviously I should scout for real bargains. I prefer quality things so I wait till the end of the year sales and buy everything I need. Which is not too much to ask for right. Just paper, notebooks and pens. Stuff like that.

    Food and Dining

They have all my favorites. Fries and nacho cheese. Fried chicken and salad. Im in heaven.

    Dorm Life

I had a chance to live with other students and it was the best time of my life. I never got to try living in dorm. Maybe next time when Im in a university.

    Academic Rigor

The teachers I've met are awesome. They offer tutoring in anything you need. The classes Ive been taking are general eds. So its challenging but not too bad. I just tell myself to stay focused.

Any major that there is Southwestern College can help students take the prerequisites for their major. If a major is not available, Southwestern College will at least help out your wallet and offer general education classes to transfer at a cheap price.

    Tips for prospective students

Southwestern College is fairly small compared to a university, so try to find a club or organization to be apart of. Clubs and organizations make the experience at Southwestern better, because students get to meet other students and become involved in the school. I am apart of the Math Science Engineering Achievement (MESA), which gives free walk in tutoring to students. I am tutor here, and have also sought out help from the other tutors. This organization also helps students by giving them information about scholarships, internships related to the organization, and having competitions with other MESAs across San Diego.

    Bang for the buck

Despite the continuous raise in cost per unit at Southwestern it is still cheap compared to going a University. The cheaper price to pass general education classes is very beneficial, because I won't have to pay the expensive tuition to take them at a four year university. Being able to pass the general education classes at a lower cost means I can focus on my major once I do transfer.

    Am enjoying being here

The main campus for Southwestern College is fairly small compared to the size of a university. Before joining a club or organization on campus I got into a I am going in circles mood, because I was still at Southwestern and still had some ways to go before transferring. Also the large amount of students relative to the amount of classes available can cause for some students to not get in a class, and still be at Southwestern College longer than they should.

    Am learning a lot

The quality of professors here is great. The professors will either lecture clear enough to grasp a subject, or they will force the students to put in time outside of class to master the subject. Usually the teachers that are notorious for being hard or how they run the class, those are the ones that I have learned the subject well. Those types of teachers have forced me to not be lazy and work for an A in class. The benefit of not being a large campus is that help is never that far away. There are always tutors close by to help learn the subject, and also the professor's office is also close by in case someone needs help.

This school I would suggest for students that will transfer to a university, I am a transfer student at Southwestern College.

    Tips for prospective students

I would suggest attending to the starting workshop or completing it by Internet, it is easier and you will not be confused when entering. Also is very important to attend a counselor appointment, they are very helpful.

    Bang for the buck

Southwestern college has helped me a lot with tuition, paying my units and giving me money for books.

    Am enjoying being here

I have had a very interesting and fun time with all my art classes, I have learned from various professors with different skills and design preferences, also they are very careful with the critics they make about the students works.

    Am learning a lot

In this shook I have gained all my art skills with great professors to choose from, very skilled and talented, they will guide students to develop their skills. Each professor has his/her style so you would be a better student if you search a bit about each professor.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for the type of students who do not have the funds to pay for universities. It will help them get their GE's done for a better price. Also this college is great for students who do not yet know what they want to major in and what university they want to go to. While they are deciding what to do and where, they can be completing their GE's.

    Tips for prospective students

If you decide to come to Southwestern College, get your general education done as soon as possible, preferably in two years. The faster the better. Also always ask around on which professors to take, because that is how I found my favorite professors here. Get good grades to get a high GPA so when you transfer to a four year college or university, you can get many more scholarships. Good luck!

    Bang for the buck

This school encourages you to apply to FAFSA and others like it. I know that they provide scholarships, specifically for southwestern students only. There are many financial aid opportunities available, you just have to look for them, but they are definitely there.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy being here because the environment is great and most teachers are looking after you. They really want to help. I have had really nice and helpful teachers. I have made great friendships, especially in my music classes. And the music classes are just fun and very insightful.

    Am learning a lot

I am really learning a lot. My English, History, Psychology, and Music classes have been very informative and helpful. They might be challenging at times, but they teach you so much. This college helps prepare you for universities.

Great for these types of students

Great for people who are looking to quickly move on to a university that cant afford to go to one or didn't get accepted the first time through, also great for high school graduates to continue their education instead of waiting till they have to.

    Tips for prospective students

I highly recommend southwestern as a great place to start but not as permanent residence while it does have degree programs, I suggest transfer as quickly as possible. Unless a certificate is what you are after then all is well.

    Bang for the buck

Classes are cheap, nurses office is covered with tuition fee. Books can get expensive but its still cheaper than a university while still getting the classes you need for thousands less. Quality but not a lot of quantity, be sure to apply for classes A.S.A.P.

    Am enjoying being here

Southwestern has a wide variety of extra curricular activities to captivate ones interest and to secure ones motivation,(swimming, judo, drama, philosophy, soccer, dancing, etc.)there is even a place to wait for classes if you have time to burn. But the campus is small so it gets crowded quickly.

    Am learning a lot

Southwestern college is a ideal place to continue education whether it be just out of high school, or just to learn something new after a few years away. Its smaller classes mean more hands-on-learning and retain-able knowledge experience.

Great for these types of students

Great for students who aren't sure of what they want to do yet or don't have the money to go straight to a UC or State.

    Tips for prospective students

Try and focus on school work and not so much on friends. Since Southwestern College gives you a lot more freedom that High School, try not to ditch and skip out on your class. You will fall behind and will end up staying there for another semester or two before you transfer.

    Bang for the buck

Financially I don't really have to pay much. BOGW pays for my classes and EOPS helps pay for my books. I pay about $30 for my classes. Instead of buying the book I just go to the school library and check out the textbook.

    Am enjoying being here

When I first came to Southwestern College I didn't think I would like it at all, but the teachers are nice and all the people I met are just as nice and awesome. The environment is relaxed, lots of trees and grass. They also have a pond with turtles in them.

    Am learning a lot

The classes I took here at Southwestern College I thought was going to be easy since I took the same classes in high school, but it ended up being a lot harder and learned a lot more than I expected. Most of the teachers there are great. They will help you if you have any question about the material and you don't have to feel embarrassed about it.

Any student really, slacker? not a problem take it slow. Achiever? take as many as you can afford, Taking your time? There's other activities that are open for students such as sports, swimming, gym, and dancing classes to help take your mind of things for a while.

    Tips for prospective students

Keep on it, no matter what age, sex, ethnicity, race you are, this school is open to anyone out there willing to try and make their life better. Always be sure to stay on top of things or they just might pile up on you, but anyone can do it if your up for it.

    Bang for the buck

$20 per unit for state residents. If you don't think that's cheap i don't know what is. Main classes ranging from 3-4 units per class. And with scholarships being offered as well including the FAFSA, CAL Grant, BOG-FW, and others you really get your money's worth and even more.

    Am enjoying being here

We are able to choose our on schedule according to how fast we wish to proceed through college and how flexible we can be. Which is either by taking only M-W-F classes, T-TH classes, morning or afternoon and such. Main offices employees are always ready to help out and willing to. People aren't so bad, while not the most friendly out there, they are far from the worst. Easy to fit in anywhere really. Met my first girlfriend here as well so cheers for me.

    Am learning a lot

I have learned quite a lot of new stuff here that wasn't even touched back in my High School, but even so there are some stuff that i had already learned so not everything is completely new. Plenty of good teachers out there with all different teaching strategies many of which are easy to get used to.

Being in the TI has been a awesome experience and also very helpful. The teachers that I had in the TI were the best teachers that I ever had, they really care about us and our progress.
