Don't let the deadlines pass. Do get involved in campus and seek to live on-campus at least for your first year. You will learn to live on your own and make your own decisions. You will be challenged, not only with the rigorous classes but also with many other aspects of life. But embrace these challenges, because they will make you grow to become a better prepared person. Finally, embrace everything Western has to offer. This college is full of potential. You just need to turn that potential to active reality.

WMU is a one of a kind place to be and you won't know if you belong here until you visit. So do visit! Before you're accepted, after you're accepted, and orientation. Also, go in blind! It could be a hit or miss, but if it's a hit it'll be the best thing that happens your first year. If that's too risky for your taste there's usually a WMU facebook page for your year where everyone is trying to meet a stranger that has the same interests but not someone from your hometown.

    - definitely visit the areas around kalamazoo and portage - the dorms looked a tad on the old side (except for the new ones, and that's not a huge deal to me), it might be for you.

Some tips are to be yourself and try to make as many friends as possible. It's always great to have lots of connections because you'll never know when you need them! Get to know your instructors. Visit them during office hours to get a little extra help when you don't understand something. Get involved in school! Join clubs, organizations, frats, etc. You only have one college career, make it worth it!
