Counseling Psychology

Counseling psychology prepares students for career in counseling people with mental health, addiction, substance abuse, education, career, and personal issues. Most counseling psychology degrees are offered at the graduate level, where students are introduced to basic and advanced psychological counseling skills. Topics covered may include counseling theory, therapeutic intervention strategies, patient/counselor relationships, testing and assessment method and procedure, group therapy, and marital and family therapy.Counseling psychology is a growing career field, with opportunities to work with and counsel patients at hospitals, healthcare facilities, rehab facilities, social service agencies, schools, and facilities for the elderly. Research, teaching, and vocational counseling are a few of several other career possibilities.
