Categories Comments Campus Safety Mitchell is a very safe town, with everyone looking out for everyone else. It would be wise though to always know your surroundings (especially if you are walking at night) although the odds of having something happen are extremely slim. Always lock your car out of habit but again odds are slim of something bad happening. They don't allow alcohol on campus and there aren't fraternities or sororities. There isn't much of a party scene (which parents may appreciate!)
Greek Life None.
Clubs and Activities They have small clubs for everything, from math to nursing to athletics to foreign languages. I highly suggest joining a club.
Great for these types of students Those that have high values/morals and expect others to have the same. Those who feel a need to help others. DWU is huge on service to support the community.
Bang for the buck I hated the thought at paying as much as I have when I first started. I realized later though that through DWU scholarships, I am not really paying more than most public universities in larger states. It is well worth the cost for the personal attention in class.
What to do for fun Being a small school makes it hard to host many activities. Sports are big here. Especially football, softball/baseball and volleyball. The school does a pretty good job at trying to keep things fun. They host movie nights and other events.
Food and Dining The cafeteria is small but nice. There are also places around town (not too far away) to grab some food. The local grocery stores have cheap ready to go meals that Wesleyan students seem to get.
Dorm Life I don't live in a dorm but most of my classmates do. They all like it but like all dorm life, certain things get old after a while. Dorms are really close to all the other buildings, so if bad weather hits it doesn't take forever to get to class.
Academic Rigor I have been challenged in all my classes. They expect a lot but help you in every way they can.
Tips for prospective students Visit the campus and town first. Mitchell is a very small town and some may not be used to that. Campus is very small for a university but there are some brand new really nice buildings. Winters here are harsh. If you live off campus, discuss possible bad weather game plans with staff ahead of time. They want you to stay safe!
In three sentences Dakota Wesleyan is a wonderful university! The campus exudes collaboration, strong ethics and is very focused on useful academics. They don't just have classes here to have classes, they all prepare you for your career in some fashion.

In three sentences Dakota Wesleyan University is a great place to grow as an individual and a professional. Faculty and staff know you by your first name, and they are always there to help. DWU's campus is gorgeous!!

Categories Comments Campus Safety We've only had one safety incident this year, and all students were notified immediately, so they could take further precautions.
Greek Life As far as I am aware, there's no Greek Life on campus.
Clubs and Activities The music and theater departments are wonderfully inclusive, and the athletics here are strong.
Great for these types of students Athletes! Professors work well around the athletic schedules and the teams here are strong.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We have the McGovern Library and museum on campus.
Bang for the buck DWU Financial Aid is really good at giving scholarships where they're needed, so you get a good education for the price you pay.
What to do for fun There are tons of opportunities to have fun here! Every Friday they offer a movie showing, every time there's a big event going on in town there's some kind of celebratory party thrown by college staff, and every Sunday the campus pastor hosts a snack and game get together, just to name a few things!
Food and Dining I also don't eat on campus.
Dorm Life I can't rate dorm life, I don't live on campus.
Academic Rigor It's acceptably difficult. I've always been a high achiever in school and I could use a little more difficulty in my classes, but depending on what you're looking for, its alright.
Tips for prospective students Visit. A school may look like just what you want online and in letters, but until you've visited you don't really know if the atmosphere is right for you.
In three sentences DWU is a good school for anyone who is looking for a smaller, tight-knit education. The sports program is phenomenal, for interested students, and they attempt to provide opportunities for all students. Overall a good school, just not for me.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I haven't really had to worry about anything happening on campus. We usually just walk with a buddy at night.
Clubs and Activities DWU has most sport teams, and they have a variety of clubs. Just push yourself to get involved in them.
Great for these types of students Who are looking for a small, close knit community of students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus This year we placed Humans vs. Zombies. That was a cool experience- kind of like tag for Halloween.
Bang for the buck Tuition is high, but the school is private and the classes do challenge you. They also offer many scholarships.
What to do for fun They have a movie theater, sports games (for both college and the high schools), dances, and many options offered by the Student Activities Board. Mitchell also has the Corn Palace.
Food and Dining There aren't many options at the cafeteria, and if you are picky like me, you end up eating the same thing almost every meal. Mitchell does offer some other options- a couple sports bars, sit down, and most common fast food restaurants.
Dorm Life The dorms are pretty big compared to most other schools in South Dakota. The freshman dorms share showers, but in the other building, they are in pods. They help to meet the suggestions of students currently attending.
Academic Rigor They offer challenging courses, and I loved how the teachers are always willing to help you out. They are very quick in emailing you back if you need help.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you visit campus and get out of your comfort zone. Attend the other activities and meet new people. That is the best part of college life.
In three sentences DWU offers many different activities to get people involved on campus such as Friday night movies, weekly chapel, and bringing in performers (i.e., hypnotist). I really enjoy the small community and how people are very friendly. The teachers and classes are just what I wanted- they challenge you and teachers are very helpful.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck It's expensive to go here but the school offers many scholorships to help pay for it all.
Am enjoying being here I have met many new friends and there are lots of things to do both on and off campus.
Am learning a lot The classes are challenging anc the teachers are very helpful. If you're not getting something, they'll work with you until you do.
