Aside all the exciting games and other spirited events, JMU has its own cinema for students to watch newly-released movies! If you're the sporty type then don't feel discouraged because JMU's massive gym consists of several athletic leisure including rock climbing, swimming pools, and much more. Very close to the campus are shopping centers that students can access by taking the free buses JMU provides as well.

There unfortunately isn't a whole lot to do except go to parties or be involved with extracurricular activities. Many of the clubs do volunteer work in the city and other places. Downtown Harrisonburg is fun when you are a freshman; there are a few good restaurants and a cat shelter, but the city is very small and becomes boring after a while. If you like drinking and partying every night and day from Thursday until Sunday afternoon, this is the school for you! There are frat parties and apartment parties every single weekend. JMU is also in the Shenandoah Valley so hikes and nature walks are only a half hour drive away.

There's about 360 clubs/organizations you can get involved in, tons of entertainment events happen every week, and Downtown Harrisonburg has lots of great local restaurants and events, and since Downtown is only about 5 minutes from the quad, it's really easy to get there!

Football games. Tons of school spirit. The surrounding area is varied, and there are lots of places to shop and eat, with shuttles to get you there. Join clubs and do some volunteering.

Students can go to UREC ( the recreational center), club events, concerts around campus, or can go to Downtown Harrisonburg. There is a mall very close to campus and other shops and stores all around town. There are events organized by UREC that students can participate in such as hiking in the surrounding area or sports activities.

I've heard that it's a bit of a party school, but I've been assured that it isn't the only option. They have lots of clubs and extracurriculars. I'm really looking forward to participating in the JMU Quidditch team!
