get involved. college is a really scary place when you first get there, but i promise it gets better. northwest gives you a homey feeling as soon as you step on campus. enjoy your four years-or less- here. oh, and happy garden is always a good choice. ;)

do not be complacent. this is the greatest tip i can suggest for anyone going into a college program. don't simply go to class and do your schoolwork--but look for opportunity. you should take time to get to know your professor and to ask them about internship opportunities, grants, scholarships and other things in the field. ask them about their work and conferences they may be going to--and then ask about financial aid in helping you get to those same conferences.

This seems to be a great campus for the freshmen, but for transfer students (like myself) it is rather difficult to make friends. I am in numerous clubs, try to talk to people, and even keep my dorm door open and I still have not met anyone. Upper classmen tend to stick to their groups. Also note that this is a small town and there isn't much in it besides the school and the basics (grocery stores and gas stations pretty much). If you are a computer or technology major, many companies say they love Northwest graduates and even come here to recruit multiple times throughout the year!
